[ORIGINAL REVIEW]

I recently started drinking a lot more tea, hot cider and hot chocolate. As such, I was boiling a LOT of water on the stove to pour in my mug. Using a sauce pan. Not very efficient.

I realized I needed a kettle to boil water. I spent probably two hours online looking at kettles -cast iron, copper bottom, aluminum, stainless steel, ceramic coated, etc. Then I realized the real problem was heating up water on my stove top; it uses an enormous amount of power. What I needed was a self contained, energy efficient electric kettle that was made of inert materials so it wouldn't impart any bad taste to the hot water and convenient for pouring/storing the water between heating.

Didn't take me long to hit on the Chef's Choice model. More than I wanted to spend, but otherwise met all my criteria -tempered glass so I can see the water level/heating state at a glance, easy to get on/off the base, enough capacity, black and stainless design, etc.

I've had this unit for 3 days now and I think it's great. On touch to turn on, few minutes later the water is at a RAGING boil, shuts off automatically or one touch to turn it off. No discernable taste imparted to the water. Easy to pour. Doesn't take up much counter space. Looks great.

In short, a well designed device that does what it's supposed to do and does it very well, thus simplifying my life. In other words, what an "Appliance" is supposed to do.

[UPDATE AFTER ONE YEAR]

Still using this on a daily basis. However, the lid on the top of the unit has stopped latching. The spring clips that latch the lid stick inside the lid. without the lid closed it will boil forever (no steam build-up to activate auto-off. May try to fix it myself. Taking off a star for this reason.

[UPDATE AFTER 14 MONTHS]

It died. The lid broke completely. The plastic lid had pretty much disintegrated internally after 14 months of daily exposure to hot steam from boiling water. I removed the lid entirely and tried to continue using it without one. That worked for a week then I lightly bumped it against my stainless steel sink while filling it and the glass broke. Apparently the glass becomes extremely brittle over many tempurature cycles. I think for the price this unit sells for it should last longer than 14 months (at least 3 years). Downgrading my review one star and not purchasing another Chef's Choice product.

I bought this kettle to replace a Capresso one, which I liked but it did not last long -the handle broke off at the top just when garantee expired. I also hoped that this kettle will solve the problem of bad chemical smell apparently coming from the silicon or plastic seal between glass and metal heating element. Alas, this kettle has the same problem as Capresso! I hope smell will disappear as it did eventually in Capresso. Also, I was a bit disappointed that it took 7-8 min. to boil max. water -longer than Capresso, I thought, but maybe I am forgetting. Another annoying feature -the package said "fast and quiet," but it was neither. It was quite noisy, much noisier than Capresso. And don't even think to fill this kettle with more water than max -even that was too much: the boiling water was splashing so violantly, I was afraid it would spill over, but luckily it did not. But the next time I'll use less water than max. With all this said, the kettle did its job, turned off reasonably fast, and pouring was easy -you don't have to open the lid as in Capresso, and the steam did not come close to my hand. The kettle looks and feels very sturdy if not as elegant as Capresso. So, I hope it will last longer. But the next time I probably will go with a metal kettle, although some of them I saw in stores felt quite heavy even when empty, but at least they probably won't have stinky plastic. So, I would recommend this product, but with caveat, and not to somebody who is concern about plastic and bad smell.

Aug. 26, 2009: I am writing an update on my review: about 6 months later the lid is broke and does not operate properly. It does not open with the push of the button and has to be forced to be closed. I will try to return this product. I would like to take some of the stars back, but for some reason could not change them.

I bought this to replace my Capresso 259.03 H2O Plus Glass Water Kettle, Polished Chrome. I decided to try something new because this one had an idea on how to prevent mineral build up.

Well, while that turned out great, it had 2 problems:

1) IT SMELLS! The water has to pass through a plastic spout and it leaves the poured water with a horrible plastic smell

2) Too complicated for their own good. The lid has a button you push to open it. The capresso you have to (OH NO!!) lift it yourself. The difference: The mechanism for openning the lid on this one broke. I never had a problem with the capresso. And the replacement (I tried another one incase the problems I was having were just a fluke) had a small little filter screen for the water pop out and I couldn't get it back in (I could see this as useful for loose leaf tea).

I really liked no more mineral deposits, but I simply can't live with the smell.

My parents just bought this from the store today. My mom came home as was pleased as punch to have a new toy and make some tea. I'd had a plastic electric kettle in college and loved it. This one looks so cool but as I watched it heat up, I noticed it got much hotter and boiled much longer than the plastic one I was used to. It shut off as it is supposed to and my mom and I poured a cup of tea each and replaced it on the heating mechanism, button still in off position, did not continue to boil water. About 2 minutes later, the glass cracked and we watched hot water leak from just above the metal bottom. We were stunned! Brand new gadget broken after one careful use.

My parents really like this model and think they just got a defective one. I'll update if number two decides to stay intact and functional or not.

This is my second T-Fal purchase; it is very hard to sift through all the different models of pans even within the T-Fal offerings, this Professional series is the one. The bottom has good weight and the high sides make it easier to load the pan with a families' worth of ingredients. The glass cover is very sturdy and much nicer than a metal lid. Overall this is the pan, I would like to find this same configuration in an 8 in size. Ordered through Amazon, came from a different vendor but without issues or delay.

I accept the fact that I will buy and use nonstick frying pans that will lose their nonstick quality after a year or two and that I will (unhappily) continue to use them for another year before replacing them. It's what I've always done and I have no reason to expect that pattern to change.

I replaced a much lower quality Ikea pan with the T-fal E9389764 Professional 10" deep saute pan. T-fal makes a their cookware in several levels of quality and I specifically chose the T-fal "professional" model after reading reviews of this and other models. The Professional model has a very heavy bottom and solid sides and handle.

The pan I received is not flat. I put a steel straightedge on the bottom and measured a gap of a little over 1/16" at the center. This doesn't really matter to me for 2 reasons: first, I cook on a gas stove and second, I don't care that oil in the pan will migrate to the outer edge, mainly because it's nonstick and I use very little oil or butter with it. Obviously, some people will find this to be a problem, but it isn't for me. The flatness of this pan is not a fluke; I also bought a T-fal E9380864 Professional Total Nonstick Oven Safe Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator 12.5-Inch Fry Pan/Saute Pan Dishwasher Safe Cookware, Black and it has exactly the same flatness issue.

T-fal makes several recommendations about using this nonstick cookware: season it with a little oil before use; don't overheat the pan; don't heat it without something in the pan; allow the pan to cool before washing; do not use abrasive pads to clean it and do not put it in the dishwasher. I am following all of these recommendations to the letter. I have been using this pan for about a month and it remains very slippery, probably better than any nonstick I have used before. I have no idea how long the nonstick quality will last, but I will update the review in the future.

This is a great pan. I cook with it every day. From eggs to sauce to stir-fry, etc and it stays non-stick and wicked easy to clean. In many cases a rinse and a paper towel is all it takes. The 12" is too big though. I shoulda bought the 10" pan instead. Size matters. ;)

I spent hours researching what non-stick skillet to buy, and I'm so glad I settled on this one. I've owned it for a while now, and it's held up great. I only hand wash it, but ANYTHING I cook in it washes right out -no soaking or scrubbing stuck-on egg or burnt-on cheese or sticky grease. I am so pleased. The one criticism I have is that the center circle doesn't seem to do anything -I'm not sure what the point of that is. But it cooks nice and evenly and is a cinch to clean, so I'm a happy lady!

This pan is a big improvement over the original Circulon pot I have with the deep circular grooves. This pan has shallow bumps on the pan bottom that are extremely easy to clean. This particular chefs pan is a great size for meals for 4. I love the high straight sides. The pan is heavy for me so I cannot easily lift it or toss ingredients using one hand. The heaviness is the biggest negative for me over the wok I had that this replaces. The reason for the weight is a layer of stainless steel on the bottom of the pan, which is very flat. The lid is also stainless steel and tight fitting. I cook over a budget electric range and the pan is reasonably even heating. I have not noticed the handle getting hot at all, but I have not used very high heat on this pan because it so far does not seem to need it. The non-stick performance has been great, and the pan cleans up very easily. I always hand wash and have not tried in the dishwasher. The pan with the handle seems a little big to fit efficiently in a dishwasher. I like this pan so much that I am going to buy more of the Circulon Infinite cookware.

UPDATE: I have had this pan over a year now and it continues to perform well. I only use wood or nylon utensils with the pan, never metal. The "non-stick" has held up very well, but I always wipe a small amount of oil onto the pan with a paper towel. Just enough to coat the bottom there should be no visible oil. Just a sheen. I have moved to a gas burner, and the pan still cooks very evenly. The bottom is still dead flat. This pan gets used at least 3 times a week for everything from braising, frying, sauteing, and stir frying. I still highly recommend this pan.

I have a 10 piece set of Infinite Circulon, but this extra pan is the most useful of all. You can brown meat right in the pan, add liquids and veggies (it is 6 quart size), and put it all right into the oven. It heats evenly with a Stainless Steel bottom, and never sticks on top of the stove or in the oven (safe up to 500 degrees). Clean up takes just minutes, or these pans can even go into the dishwasher.

After more than five months of cooking with thisCirculon Infinite Circulon 6-Quart Covered Chef Pan with Helper Handle wonderful piece of cookware, I must agree wholeheartedly with others here. It is terrific!

First, I was thrilled to be able to use it on the induction cooktop I had purchased earlier. Still amazed at how very fast this combination of tools will produce tasty, quality results.

As others have attested, cut way down on any oils or fats you use. Am still cutting down. I like extra virgin olive oil for flavor in my cooking. I probably only need 1/2 teaspoon or less now. You cannot believe how you don't need any oils at all for browning in this pan.

Yes, it's an "everything pan". Perfect size for family stovetop casseroles, super for hearty soups and stews, and more. I haven't used it in the oven yet, but would feel confident about its performance there.

This pan heats more evenly than any I have owned. It is a fine, handsome, solid piece of construction. It does have weight, but it feels good and has a thoughtfully sculptured elongated handle, plus a helper handle to make lifting the pan nearly effortless for most members of the family.

Those handles do stay cool on top of the stove. The lid is a nice weight, as well. It provides a tight fit and is made of quality stainless steel, like the handles. Haven't had to use a potholder on the lid yet, either.

Best money I have spent on any piece of cookware. Cleanup involves a swish or two with hot, soapy water and rinse. Though you can put this in the dishwasher, why waste all that hot water and energy?

I'm trying to replace my 12 inch covered saute pan. Every one I get warps and doesn't sit flat on my glass-top stove. My current pan has developed a crack in the Teflon and is starting to stick, so it's got to go. The reviews of this pan lead me to give it a try, and I'm glad I did.

The stats are just plain off on this listing. "6 x 16 x 5 inches; 11 pounds; 9 lb shipping weight" ?! Apparently its some sort of chimney tube that gets lighter when you ship it!

The reality is: the pan is about 11 inches (28cm) in diameter, plus a little bit for the flare at the top. The box label calls it a 6qt/5.5L/28cm pan. It's just over 4 inches deep. The long handle adds 9 inches of length, and the helper handle another 2-1/2 or so. The steel/aluminum disk on the bottom is dead flat, 1/4 inch thick and 9 inches in diameter. There is no way a stove is going to warp it. It is heavy at over 4-1/2 lbs for the pan plus about 1-1/2 lbs for the lid. The box says it was made in Thailand.

Circulon includes a "Lifetime Customer Satisfaction Guarantee" and suggests you visit their website or call their customer relations number 800-326-3933 if you have any problems. The use and care instructions warn against leaving an empty pan over too high heat, which can burn the nonstick coating and release toxic fumes (a known issue common to all non-stick cookware; never cook over 500F with non-stick surfaces!) It doesn't otherwise say not to use oils in the pan, just not to overheat them. Keep in mind that most cooking oils will smoke above 375-400F, so you have an easy way to tell when its getting too hot.

I'll have to use it before I can speak to the longevity. There are plenty of good reviews for that here anyway. I expect to be pleased enough to look for the 10-piece set and replace all of my old, mismatched cookware in the near future.

May 2011 update 8 months and I still love the pan. I did get the 10-piece set as a Christmas gift. Have not managed to damage the non-stick on any of them. They can be washed in the dish washer without harm. Always come out clean as new. Great pan, and a great set.

I got this pan when I got my Circulon Infinite Induction Cooker. The conductivity of the aluminum with the induction capability of the stainless disk make a great cook pan! I deep fry, stir fry, saute before braising, braise, boil for pasta, etc., etc., etc! Clean up is a snap! It quickly became my favorite cook pan because I don't have the "hot spot" problem with it that I have with some other pans using and induction burner. I use primarily All-Clad, but I now intend to buy other Circulon Infinite cookware. And guess what, I used to hate Circulon cookware!

I needed a saucepan to cook oatmeal in that would let go on the bits that stick to the bottom. Sounds silly, but I love oatmeal and hate cleaning the pan afterwards. This cleans up easily and cooks evenly. I have used it for cooking rice, gravies and other foods that seem to stick and it always cleans up well. Now, for the lid. There is a black band on the inside of the lid and it scrubed off one night recently. I sat down, wrote an email to the company and by the next day, they have a new lid on the way. They asked only where to send it, nothing else. I like companies that stand by the product they sell. So, if you are going to buy from this line, check that black band, it should be between the glass and the metal, not on the inside of the lid. If you have a problem with the product, ALWAYS notify the manufacturer, they will almost always make it right, like Calphalon did for me.

This is a great pot; durable, easy to clean, great design. Also, the Contemporary line is Made in USA, whereas the cheaper line; Simply, is Made in China. The only negative about this pot is that the lid handle gets hot and you need to use a oven mitt to take it off. Otherwise, great product

The carafe cracked on the third usage. As if that wasn't enough to discard product integrity. I return and ordered a second brewer and that carafe cracked on the fourth usage. So there you have! I would be a bit leery in considering this product. Now I have been brewing coffee for a solid 55 years and have never had this happen on any other brewer.

I received my Karolik 8 cup coffee maker and used it for 3 weeks when the carafe broke on the bottom while the coffee was brewing. I contacted Abe's of Maine. The customer service rep was immediately defensive, spewed a bunch of reasons it was not their responsibility and ultimately said they were not responsible because carafes break all the time. A clean dry carafe should not break while the coffee is brewing, especially after a few weeks. I read a review after I purchased that others have had the same issue with this product. In the end he said they do not carry the item anymore and could not help me. So wasted my money buying from this company; they would not support the products they represent.

I bought this because it was inexpensive, I didn't have high expectations.

It is really cute. The red is kind of shiny. I like the appearance.

I am scared to leave it on though. When I use it I smell burning plastic. I noticed that the plate is extremely hot compared to my other one.

It hasn't broken on me, because I had read the other reviews before purchase and I have been extremely mindful to shut it off. Today I left it on for an hour and no tragedies occurred, so I am not 100 per cent sure if that is what causes the problems with broken carafes, but with the burning plastic smell, I am pretty sure.

It uses cone shaped filters, and I don't have any, but I have been getting by with regular basket filters. I want to use them up first. I have never had a cone filter machine before.

I really like the appearance of it, so I hope I don't break it.

I got it at a better price with prime shipping, I think I paid about $15, so for 15 bucks if it lasts a little while then I will be happy.

It is cute, so I hope I don't have the breakage problems other people have had, because the color is really nice.

This is a really great set of scissors for the price. Owning Wusthof knives and a pair of come-apart kitchen sheers, I thought this set would be high quality and I was right. The scissors are sharp, solid and strong. The only thing I cant rave about is the little pruners. They lack the heft they need for anything other than tender stems. I think if Wusthof added another blade, they would do a better job, but the pruners have only one blade and the other surface is plastic, so you dont get a good, clean cut with a woody stem like a rose or lilacs. Other than that, the other pieces perform superbly, fit comfortably in the hand, and stand up to the abuse I give them. They are also dishwasher safe and come out sparkling. Yes I do recommend these. I have purchased another set as a gift.

The center screw is partially plastic and just snapped so they cannot be fixed. You think they will screw back but they don't stay together. I've long hated the fact that spatulas trap gunk inside the handle slot, and there's not much you can do about it, short of dis-assembly, and gunk retrieval with a knife, which shortens the life of the spatula quite a bit, and makes them trap even more next time.

This ends all that, and it works well as a spatula, to boot! I've run it through the dishwasher several times, and it comes out well every time, with no film, as I get on some cheaper spatulas I've had. LOVE the silicon, since I can now use it for flipping eggs, and stirring soups, etc on the Teflon pans.

I've agreed with some who wished for a longer handle, right up til I put them in the dishwasher, when I was glad for the length they are, as any longer, and they won't fit in my silverware slots, or my drawer, for that matter. Also love the slim handle, as many spatulas take up too much room in the dishwasher with their fat handles. This one's perfect.

I got two, one skinny, and one standard size, and both are flexible enough to scrape, but not too flimsy to stir. Good texture, good strength, and good length for me. If they hold up over time, I'll be handing them out for Christmas gifts next year.

UPDATE: 3 months later: I still love all the things I said about it, but the one negative is the smell/taste. I'd hoped that would ease up after a while, but it really hasn't. It's not an overwhelming smell, but it is there, and it affects the taste of foods when you are trying to taste test. I don't think it's imparting anything to the actual food, but if you lick the spatula to taste your sauces, you will taste the spatula more than you want to. I've had to go back to tasting from a spoon, and just use the spatula for stirring. I also don't leave it in the food just stir, and remove. Too bad. It would be PERFECT if not for the taste/smell.

I cook and bake. A lot. Everyday, multiple times a day and this spatula is perfect. One piece, so nothing comes apart, silicone so nothing leeches into our food, soft enough so that it can get into crevices, but firm enough that it can do some heavy duty doughs. This will be my present to any baker or for any wedding shower!

I bake quite often and try to never be without the PaperChef Paper. I use it for baking and for baking then cooling breads, cinnamon buns, cookies, and even chex mix. I line a cookie sheet with the paper to bake cookies and can then slide the paper with cookies onto the stove top to cool while I go on to bake the next batch. I have a toaster oven and I make large batches of chex mix (it lasts quite a while in a sealed container). When we want a batch I line a cookie sheet with paper, place a layer of chex mix on it and toast. I use it instead of the cooking spray or butter most of the time.

Parchment paper worked great. Doesn't get brown and brittle under high temps. Great for making cookies and keeping your cookie sheets clean.

this has a ton of paper in it, and I use parchment for all my baking, the only drawback to this at all....is that it didn't have a metal serrated edge blade to cut the paper from the roll.

Love this and it will last me a long time. I even reuse it sometimes since it has great non-stick properties. You readers are now rolling your eyes, but I even made my own cupcake/muffin liners with this. My lowfat muffins fell right out of the parchment paper! No more greasing the muffin tin or spending money on the spray oil (Pam, etc.). Parchment paper is great stuff and this is an econo-size roll.

The Tea Beyond "Fairy" teapot with tea warmer cozy is quite beautiful. Both are clear, heat-resistant glass that is dishwasher (top rack) and microwave safe. I prefer to wash the teapot by hand. I've found that if the teapot gets stained by tea that a good way to clean it is with a wet soft cloth and a sprinkling of baking soda. That will safely scour the glass with no chance of scratching.

We love using Blooming Tea simply because it is such a mesmerizing experience to witness the flowering tea ball open when dropped into the hot water. This clear glass teapot displays the show perfectly. Although the teapot is described as being 20oz, it actually holds 22oz.

If you use loose tea instead of a blooming tea, you would use the glass infuser. It is approximately 3" tall and 3 1/8" in diameter and it fits nicely into the top of the teapot. The bottom of the infuser has 4 sets of slots that allow the tea to infuse into the teapot. We've found that tea can clog in the slots and some teas are more prone to do that than others. Consequently some teas may clog the slots so much that the infusion takes much longer than what would be normal. So we avoid those fine teas. Cleaning the slots can be a little challenting too. We have a couple methods of cleaning the slots that work well... dental floss, the edge of a business card, and if you're lucky a good stream of water will often dislodge the tea.

The lid is non-locking so you need to hold it with a finger while pouring the tea.

The tea warmer cozy uses a standard tea-light candle and has a metal plate that sits at the top to act as a platform for the teapot to sit on. The tea-light sits far enough away from the teapot that it does not really develop black soot on the bottom.

I'm not totally pleased with the glass infuser because of the clogging issue. Although it looks nice, I think i'd prefer a stainless steel basket style infuser with holes or screen rather than the glass.

Other than the infuser, we love the "Fairy" model and use it often. It's just the right size for making 2 large cups or 4-6 smaller cups of tea.

This teapot set comes in a plain white box tied up with ribbon (cozy is in a separate box), which makes it a perfect gift for an office mate or a friend who enjoys a cup of good quality tea. The pot is big enough for 2-3 cups of tea, and the tea-light candle (included) in the cozy will keep it hot for a long time.

The glass is delicately patterned on the handle and lid, which adds an elegant touch to tea time. I didn't have any "blooming tea" when I tried my pot, but because it's clear glass it would be beautiful with the tea flower slowly unfolding inside. If you use cut tea leaves, the glass infuser insert will keep the leaves out of your teacup. You'll need to use larger cut leaves to avoid specks in your cup.

With winter's cold weather arriving, I look forward to afternoons at my desk with this teapot and cozy nearby.

I'm a big fan of Tea Beyond. I use their Romeo Jasmine Whole Leaf Green Tea Set and Tea Beyond Heat resistant Glass Teapot at work. I like this one even better than those two, but our corporate fire marshal won't allow us to have candles in the office (which is fine with me).

This is a very elegant 20 ounce teapot with a glass base to hold a tea candle to keep it warm. The warmer is a great touch for keeping your unused tea warm for awhile. I usually remove the infuser after the tea initially steeps, otherwise it steeps too long and gets bitter.

This teapot has an elegant clear glass design and it is also very functional. This is a great item for yourself and also makes a great gift.
