This cooker is very light weight steel. It looks good and functions well, but will probably not be kitchen quality for very many years. After just a few uses, the steel is beginning to "pit" in the bottom. This leads me to believe that this pot was not made with high quality stainless steel.

The basket is NOT stainless steel on the one I bought. Rusts quickly and then leaves rust stains in bottom of pot during storage. The wires are too widely spaced in the basket to hold small asparagus spears. Pot is okay, lid a little thin but okay.

I love this steamer because it fits in All Clad sauce pans from 2 to 4 quarts. The other version with the long handle doesn't fit the 2-quart. I'm usually cooking for one or two, so the smaller capacity suits me.

Okay, I admit I have an All-Clad fetish after spending a small fortune on my Copper Core set, and a stainless non-stick skillet. So naturally I had to have this steamer insert as well. It looks just beautiful with the All-Clad pots, pretty enough to serve from at the table with company, and it performs MARVELOUSLY! Not a bit of steam escapes from either the connection at the pan, or from the steamer's lid. The food steams fast and furious and wonderfully--much better than with the old collapsible type steamer I used with my former Calphalon.

I also like that the moment the food is done, I can toss directly into the steamer a little butter or oil and some salt, and mix it around with the veggies quickly and easily--which was NOT the case with the collapsible type steamers that had to be removed from the pan before anything could be done to them (usually burning at least one finger or thumb!)

It fits my Copper Core 1.5 quart and 2 quart saucepans the best. It does fit the larger 4 quart saucepan as well, though the connection between the pot and steamer is not perfect--almost, but it does not seat perfectly as with the smaller saucepans, which if fine as they are all you need even even when steaming a large batch of veggies or clams in this steamer.

Ahhh, I've reached steamer nirvana, at last...!

Highly recommend this piece of All-Clad for a splurge--you're worth it!

This steamer is not of the same quality as the USA manufactured All-Clad cookware. It is lighter in weight and the handles and lid are not as nicely constructed. I was disappointed with this product because of the quantity of food that it accomodates. Steam holes do not cover the entire bottom of this steamer and food may scorch when not placed directly over the steam holes. Food can only be placed toward the bottom center of the steamer over the steam holes to prevent scorching. I have another stainless steamer that I prefer because steam holes cover the entire bottom of the steamer. However, this steamer is o.k. for steaming a smaller amount of food where all of the food fits over the steam holes in the center bottom of the steamer.

I spent a bit of time recently trying to get several inserts for my All-Clads pots, pans and stock pots. The information herein is to help people trying to get the right steamer or boiler insert for their All-Clad pots & pans.Here's what I found:

1. I DID NOT BUY the steamer which these reviews are supposed to be covering, namely the All-Clad Stainless All-Purpose Steamer with Lid. I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure it would fit my older All-Clad pans. The All-Clad Stainless All-Purpose Steamer with Lid is also known as All-Clad part # 8700800513 and is made to fit current 2, 3 and 4 quart All-Clad stainless sauce pans and casseroles. It is said to be 8 1/4 inches in diameter and 4 3/4 inches deep.

2. The item I DID BUY is a 3-quart steamer insert, All-Clad part # 8701004547, and it is available for US sixty dollars at many websites. It does not have a lid and does not have loop handles. It has a sauce pan styled handle and you use it with the lid that comes with your sauce pan. See All-Clad 3-qt. Stainless Steamer Insert.It fits 3 & 4-quart sauce pans in All-Clad's "Stainless" collection. These pans have an 8-inch inside diameter. It may not fit similarly sized pans in All-Clad's other collections!!!

3. The steamer insert I DID Buy is complemented by All-Clad's 3-quart (double) boiler insert part # 8701004490. It is not a steamer. It is a (double) boiler insert. See All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Double-Boiler Insert. It does not have a lid and does not have loop handles. It has a sauce pan styled handle and you use it with the lid that comes with your sauce pan. It fits 3 & 4-quart sauce pans in All-Clad's "Stainless" collection. These pans have an 8-inch inside diameter. It may not fit similarly sized pans in All-Clad's other collections!!!

4. The holes in the bottom of either steamer insert mentioned above do not extend to the outer edge of the bottom of the insert. The holes only cover about 2/3's of the bottom, radiating out from the center. Some people have complained about "scorching" because of this.

5. All these steamer & boiler inserts are thinner than the corresponding saucepans they fit. This is not really a flaw, however, since they don't need to be so thick to function properly only as inserts.

6. All these inserts are made in China. As I understand it, all All-Clad tri-ply cookware currently is made in the U.S. Non-tri-ply items like all these inserts may be made elsewhere to save costs.

7. Another item to consider is All-Clad's small double boiler # 8400000266, described as a "stainless steel 2-quart sauce pan with porcelain double boiler." The insert is smaller than the 3-quart inserts mentioned above, is porcelain (not stainless) and is meant for smaller, finer sauces and such. It is not a steamer. It is a small double boiler. See All-Clad Stainless Steel 2 Qt. Sauce Pan With Porcelain Double Boiler.It is made in the U.S.

8. If you need detailed info on various All-Clad steamer, boiler or colander inserts also check out That site has detailed specs on the various choices that may be more accurate than Amazon's. Prices are the same.

I hope this is not too confusing, and will be helpful to someone.

I purchased this pan because we live on a boat and needed a grill pan that would go from stove top to oven. Castiron is what comes to mind first, but not a good idea for a boat, persistence in searching the market brought me to discover this wonderful pan, I am in awe of it's even heat distribution, non stick surface and it's overall performance. We have this type of fry pan in Scotland only the round one and love it. We decide to go with the square one in the USA. The description in two places talks about the glass lid that can withstand high temps in the oven. Except, there is no lid. What good is a grill for the top of your stove or oven with no lid??? When I called customer service, for one, I am sure I was speaking to someone out of this country, which was hard to understand what they were saying, and second, no explanation as to why it says there is a lid but there isn't. No explanation, just, we will e-mail you a return label!!! I am usually very happy with Amazon, but this whole experience was not. And by the way, this was shipped from Amazon!!!

I've been looking for a roasting rack that would last solid stainless rather than chrome plate or Teflon coated. I ordered this in size small and it's just what I wanted. Sturdy, dishwasher safe, and the shape supports a roast or chicken nicely. The adjustable ones always collapse on me, I like that this is a solid one-piece unit. While designed to use with the Scanpan, the small fits my standard 9x13.5" stainless baking pan with a little space around it, and is sturdy enough to support any roast that would fit in the pan. I plan to get a larger one for my larger roasting pan, for the next time I cook a turkey.

Update Jan 2013 I finally got the larger size, they were out of stock when I tried before. The box gives the dimensions of the large as 17 1/4" x 12 1/2" x 3". I measure it at about 13 3/4 x 11 1/4 x 2 1/2". The smaller one I measure at about 10 1/4" x 7 3/4" x 2 1/4". The large is sturdy enough for a large turkey, which is what I was looking for.

The rack pictured is not the one you will get now. I have the original and waited a long time to order a second one. Imagine my surprise when the box showed the correct rack, but inside was a cheap imitation. It is square, flat and lightweight. It weighs half the weight of the original. It may be stainless steel and it may not. The original is a work of art and worth the price. I use it all the time. Sent the cheap imitation back. Tried twice; no luck. The picture in the listing is right, the picture on the box is right, but the rack is a very cheap imitation. Buyer beware!!! Have notified Amazon, but they have not corrected listing.

Amazon customer service was helpful and processed a refund and a pre-paid return label. Great service, but, still a disappointment. Also wish customer service was in the U.S. rather than outsourced.

Update: Picture now shows rack you will get. Thank you Amazon for putting correct image in listing.

I expect that this will prove a useful and sturdy, little roasting rack. Note, however, that it is supposed to be a "large" rack. The dimensions on the box state that it is 17" x 12" x 3". The true dimensions are much closer to 13" x 11 1/2" x 3". The only dimension that measures 17" is the diagonal!

That said, it fits a Calphalon roasting pan. I like that the handles do not extend up (and beyond) the sides of the roasting pan. While it will make it difficult to raise the bird from the pan still sitting on the rack, it will make it much easier to use lifters to remove the bird from rack and pan.

I have used the rack five times to roast chickens. It is the most ergonomically comfortable and useful roasting rack I have ever used. The end handles make pulling the rack from the pan easy and safe. The rack cleans easily and fits easily in the dishwasher.

Among pot racks, some hang from the ceiling and others mount on the wall. This Cuisinart Oval Rack mounts on the wall and is exactly what I wanted since I'm still apartment-living (I don't have a big kitchen). In other words, it's a great space saver and fits almost anywhere. I've hung it over my stove once, and now have over my sink. The rack is made of solid stainless steel and is strong enough to hold any pot, so long as it is mounted properly. Make sure it is mounted into the studs inside the wall. So, installing it can be tricky if you're not familiar with a drill and stud-finder. The one problem is that the unit has three predetermined holes for mounting and you'll be lucky if two holes match the location of the studs. I'm extra cautious (and I live in earthquake country) so I mount to a solid somewhat longer peice of wood, then mount that wood to the wall. The unit comes in two pieces and is shiny and sleek. It gives a "Gourmet Cook" impression. It comes with five or six pot hooks (I can't remember) but that's plenty giving the overall size of the unit. I would buy it again.

When I bought my calphalon kettles, I failed to notice that the set included a 5 quart dutch oven which was smaller than I was used to but serviceable.

Dutch Ovens... there are plenty out there to look at and chose from. This particular Make and Model "fills the bill" nicely, so to speak. You can use it for unlimited purposes, the handles will not melt (they have a special rubberized wrapping), the Pot & Glass Top are very well made of Calphalon. Lastly the Pot cleans up easily because of its material, and the product is made in America. Hence this product is a win-win in our household, do not be afraid to purchase this product.

I've made several meals in my Dutch Oven and I've been very pleased. No matter how thick the sauce is, nothing has stuck to the pan. I made a cream of turkey soup last night and when I poured it into a bowl, the pot was nearly clean. It's a medium weight not flimsy and not too heavy to handle. I use it on the top of the stove and in the oven. I would definitely recommend this Dutch Oven.

* The non-stick coat really works, and seems durable

This is a nice deep non-stick pan. The handle is a bit clunky though. So far it's working well, but time will tell how long the Teflon lasts.
