French Home Red 3 Quart Rectangular Gratin Baking Dish Review
The description that is here on Amazon does not give many details. This item is enameled cast iron. The brand itself is actually La Chasseur which is made in France. It is dishwasher safe and induction compatible. The cooking area is 13.5" by 8.5" inches and the handles are an inch in length. Its size makes it great for putting meats and veggies together. I made a pineapple upside cake in this and it came out perfect. It distributes heat evenly. I have compared to other brands that I use (Emile Henry, Revol, Lodge Logic etc.) and it definitely is up there with them. The instructions do say not to use metal utensils with this item.

A high-quality Creuset product! I love it, I've made great dishes with it and its easy to clean with no discoloration/deterioration after mutliple uses. But be warned Creuset products are on the heavy side. I do not consider this a drawback (this is a sign of quality and durability) but if you have never owned a Creuset product, it is something to be aware of.Best Deals for Le Creuset Stoneware Deep Dish Baker
I enjoy using this baker, with the lid it is almost as good as a dutch oven.I have baked Scallop Potatoes,Lasagna,Enchiladas,Cowboy potatoes, and numerous other dishes. The dish cleans up easily after the messiest dishes.,I was worried it would take some soaking after the Lasagna. The dish cleaned with minimal effort, I have not put the dish or the lid in the Dish Washer. I have put the dish in the Fridge and Microwave, and I learned the hard way that you cannot take the dish from the fridge to the Oven. It shatters the Stoneware to have extreme temperature changes. I also broke the dish by dropping it on accident ,it shatters easily . Use carefully and hand wash,it is a wonderful baker. Highly recommended.Honest reviews on Le Creuset Stoneware Deep Dish Baker
This is a really really heavy baking dish and this is the main reason I loved it, as the heaviness is a part of quality. Perfect size for mac& cheese, or any kinds of casseroles. But just one note, this is not a "super big" dish and this is the reason why I ordered it as I do not need a really big baking dish for my job.But it's definitely big enough for most casseroles and this size is hard to find. You won't regret with it.Wednesday, October 29, 2014
Best Le Creuset Heritage Stoneware 12-by-9-Inch Covered Rectangular Deals
I bought this to give as a wedding gift. I have other LeCreuset stoneware bakers, but not this one. I am writing a review because other buyers have said that it arrived broken. Mine arrived safely. I hope my niece and nephew like it!!
I love the color!
I gave it a 4 star because it is pretty expensive. I think it is more like a $60 piece.

Bought my 4.5 qt Le Creuset at TJ Maxx for ½ off. Never pay full price is my motto.
I wanted to use it in the oven as well as the stovetop, so needed this steel knob to replace the black one. I like going back and forth between knobs because I prefer to not have to use a pot-holder when cooking on the stovetop. But, for high temperatures in the oven, this knob is necessary.
What is there to say? It works. I think the knobs both look fine. Get it if you need it. All you need is a screwdriver to install.

I wish the pots came with this knob instead of the resin one. This bolted right in, took 10 seconds to replace the old knob, and into the 550 degree oven went the Le Creuset pot. Yummy crusty bread came out.Best Deals for Le Creuset Stainless Steel Medium Replacement Knob

This is a necessity if you want to use your dutch oven at a higher oven temperature. I am using it on my Le Creuset 3.5 quart round pot. It is slightly bigger in diameter and thicker than the original plastic knob. Make sure to keep a pot holder handy because it can get very hot.Thursday, October 2, 2014

These silicone spatulas are the highly recommended ones from a leading cooking magazine. So I purchased all these Rubbermaid professional heat resistant spatulas and spoonulas (9 ½", 13 ½" and 16 ½" in length). I use the spatulas primarily for folding ingredients in a mixing bowl. I prefer to use the spoonulas for scraping a bowl when I want to scrape out every last bit of cooking goodness (the edges of the spoonulas are thinner and the cupping of the spoonulas both help to scrape bowls, pans, and pots clean). The Rubbermaid professional plastic handles are more comfortable to use than the wood handles on my heat resistant spatulas and spoonulas. Also, the silicone heads of my wood handle ones are stiffer than the Rubbermaid professional ones. I think that little bit of flex in the Rubbermaid Professional silicone heads helps me scrape cleaner.
I have yet to use the little notch on these spatulas for scraping under the opening of jars (I think they were intended for use on the commercial kitchen size jars) since the spatulas are 2 ¼" wide for the 9 ½" to 2 ¾" wide for the 13 ½" and 16 ½" long tools. The handle ends have small prongs that look like they are to help keep the entire spatula or spoonulas from sliding into a work bowl.
I have some older Rubbermaid ones and they are definitely not stain resistant: the paprika has permanently stained one of the mixing spatulas. I was able to remove the paprika stain from the Rubbermaid professional spatula using dishwashing liquid and a nylon Scotchbright like pad. Also, my older Rubbermaid heat resistant spoonula developed a split at the tip and has warped a bit.
I just realized that one of the reasons why I don't like my similar sized 13 ½" sized silicone spatulas and spoonulas with wood handles: the working end is heavy so the tool is not as balanced as these Rubbermaid Professionals.
For most home kitchens, I'd recommend buying the 9 ½' and 13 ½" size spatulas and spoonulas. There is a 16 ½" size that is very long and the silicone head is the exact same size as the 13 ½: (14" actual) size (4" X 2 ¾").
PROS: The silicone heads have just the right amount of flex to scrape cleaner than similar sized scrapers and spoonulas. The handles are more comfortable and sized well.
CONS: A bit expensive but you a get a tool likely to last.
Each of my daughters-in-law got a pair in their Christmas stocking last year. I highly recommend these utensils.
I will say that this seems like a very good quality product and it may suit my needs just fine as a small spatula for scrambled eggs, sauces, clearing out my blender, etc. The silicone has a nice feel to it. The spatula seems firm with just enough flexibility at the top and around the edges. Really like the way the head attaches to the handle as well. Just do not buy this with the idea of getting a wide, heavy duty spoon spatula. It seems a shame that Rubbermaid has misadvertised such a seemingly good product.
Update: I returned the product. This spatula seems over-priced, particularly given the misleading product description.
This spatula (they call it scraper) works excellent in stirring any ingredient in a stove-top pot. It bends to fit the bottom of any pan. After months of use, the ends haven't 'curdled' (that's what I call the ends when they've 'melted into a ugly mess of blobbed plastic'). It hasn't discolored (even when stirring tomato products). Best of all, it doesn't melt when placed, in-between stirs, on the warm stove top.
I'm so happy with product I'm buying three more. I also purchased the 13" for my stock pots.

We have the Rubbermaid Heat Resistant spoonulas and spatulas in several sizes, and duplicates of the smaller ones. We use them for everything in the kitchen. They do not stain, melt, or degrade in any way. They withstand the dishwasher very well, and are virtually indestructible. I even mixed a small batch of concrete patch with the largest one! Have started a project of upgrading my kitchen utensils and cookware and have long had the Rubbermaid spoon spatula at the top of my list after doing much research and reading all the positive reviews. So I eagerly ordered this item when it went on the 4 for 3 sale and the price seemed right and it just arrived today. It greatly surprised me to receive a spatula that measures 2 3/8" at its widest point. Promoting this as a 3 inch wide spatula seems deceptive at best. The picture also gives the impression of a wider spatula.I will say that this seems like a very good quality product and it may suit my needs just fine as a small spatula for scrambled eggs, sauces, clearing out my blender, etc. The silicone has a nice feel to it. I was sick of all my old frayed cooking utensils and sadly, nowadays, most cooking utensils are way too long (avg length = 13") for my convenience. So I purchased two of the 11" size as a 'tester', as my past experiences with other "high heat" products did not end pretty (who knew a stove top could melt utensils). This spatula (they call it scraper) works excellent in stirring any ingredient in a stove-top pot. Buy Lodge L5MIC3 Miniature Lid
I totally agree, if you get the 5 inch skillet, get this lid. I found it also fits on the 14 oz melting pot. It does NOT fit the Sante Cabin cobbler pots (which are advertised as 5 inches, but apparently are about 6 inches).

This lid is the correct size and shape, it functions fine but it doesn't have a hole for a lid lifter so I'll need to bring the vice-grip along to take care of it. I'd love to see a hole for a ring or lid lifter from the factory so I don't need to void the warranty of the lid just to be able to use it with my lifter. If I had another one of the kettles that was in need of a lid I'd buy another lid.Wednesday, July 30, 2014
5 Piece 12" Preseasoned Flat Bottom Wok Set Review

I just purchased this wok as I stir-fry frequently and wanted to try to stay away from chemical non-stick coatings. The product was shipped and received quickly. Here are the pros and cons as it currently stands.
Pros: It is a beautiful wok. It's the perfect size and heft. The lid is also a great bonus.
Cons: The wok comes with a protective coating from the manufacturer. The instructions that come with the wok on how to clean it for first time use are very poor. Per the manual: "To remove the wok coating before cooking: 1)Add 1 tablespoon cooking oil to the wok. 2) Heat wok medium to high heat. 3) wipe off with paper tower. Repeat if necessary. 4) Wash the wok with warm soapy water, rinse off." The rest of the instructions assume you've already removed the coating. On the first read it seems straight forward. But then I questioned whether I should wipe it off while the wok is still hot or after it's cooled off? And how would I know if the coating was completely removed and whether to "repeat as necessary"? I called the company (Taylor & Ng) and their voice mail was full. No one has responded to my e-mail.
So I tried to remove the coating while the wok was still hot. After many go-arounds with paper towels, the surface still felt sticky. I tried to swirl the pan to get the oil to the sides while heating it, but was nervous about starting a grease fire so I tried swirling the pan with the oil without heat, then heated it until the oil was loose, turned off the heat and swirled it some more before trying to remove with a paper towel. Even after doing this about 4 times, the sides still felt sticky. It got to the point where my kids were asking what the smell was and what was I frying?
So I'm not happy with not knowing if I've removing the coating adequately. The whole point in my buying a pre-seasoned wok was so I could avoid this oiling/heating business that is involved with seasoning a wok in the first place! Also I wanted to avoid using chemical non-sticks and thought that a natural non-stick would be the answer. At this point I wouldn't be comfortable cooking on this wok for fear that I didn't completely remove this coating placed by the manufacturer! In addition, there should have been mention in the instructions of having adequate ventilation as the fumes coming off the wok are very noxious!
If I successfully remove this coating and actually start cooking with it I'll amend my review, but so far I'm not pleased with this purchase.
Addendum: Ok the company did send me an email with this reply: "The clear food-grade coating becomes more pliable and "sticky" when the wok is heated with the cooking oil. This is what you will remove with the paper towel. The wok should not be overly hot or smoking, just medium heat. Use regular cooking oil, not olive oil. Once it is no longer sticky, the coating is removed." The coating *is* extremely sticky and I'm still having trouble removing it. It would help if the company had this additional information in their packet so as to avoid any ambiguities!

The quality of the wok itself is just fine, being preseasoned well. However, the wooden handle is loose once assembled, and turns easily in your hand when you try to manipulate the wok. This is not only irritating, but dangerous, as it could result in spilling hot oil onto the burner, or onto yourself. So, there is no flipping the food inside the wok with this model; merely fast stirring with the spatula.Friday, July 11, 2014

Reviews of Black & Decker 850-Watt Toaster
I have owned this toaster for about two months now and am very pleased with the toast I get from it. It seems to be almost impossible to find a toaster these days that will toast bread evenly and consistently. This one not only does the job, but is also reasonably priced.
I have used the "bagel" setting for English muffins and it works well, toasting just the inside surface of the muffin while warming the crust side. Bread is evenly toasted on both sides. It doesn't matter which slot I use, the toast is consistently the same degree of "brown." Each pair of slots has its own set of controls, so you can toast to different degrees of "brown" at the same time. The "frozen" setting works with frozen bread as it should. In short, this toaster does exactly what it's supposed to.
I have only two criticisms. First, it takes a long time to get the job done. That is ameliorated somewhat by the fact that there are four slots, making it twice as fast as a two-slot toaster. To toast bread to a medium-brown takes about 3:30 (minutes:seconds) on setting number five. The settings go to six, which yields a smoking, almost black, piece of toast after 4:30. If you want your toast truly black, you'll have to use the "frozen" setting.
My other criticism is its size. Check the dimensions and make sure that you can live with them. This toaster is large.
Edit: I have found one more criticism, but it still doesn't affect my opinion that this is an excellent toaster. When the toast pops up, it isn't raised high enough. The toaster will allow you to lift the toast another half-inch or so, but unless you are toasting a full-sized piece of bread (think English muffin) you will not be able to reach it without a tool. This is an annoyance, but I just stab the muffin with my butter knife and pull it out.
All in all, an excellent toaster. I'd buy it again.
Ok..to be fair the toaster looks cool albeit a little bulky so that's a star in it's favor. It also has a "bagel" setting which earns it another star but that's where the generosity ends.
A brief description of that morning. Hmm...toaster setting goes from 1 to 6 so I'll use 4 because I like my toast brown. Insert toast. La la la la wait excruciatingly long time. Ah ha toast pops up..or kind of..this toast doesn't event come up to the top of the toaster ACK! First instinct is to grab metal fork and dig out my treasure toast. ~Flash back to past episodes of Americas Dumbest Videos or some such~ Decide that's not a great idea so I unplug toaster and retrieve toast (or what should have been toast). The bread showed no browning at all with a slightly dehydrated crustiness on the surface. Ok...well...attempt number two on setting number 5 which theoretically should be a fairly dark setting but cooked the toast to the almost brown look I wanted. This also resulted in waiting an unbearable length of time to finish. Now considering myself a pro at operating this less than noble beast I moved on to english muffins. Great news! It toasted just one side like it was supposed to! Not so great news..had to use same high number 4 setting to achieve any color AND had to unplug toaster and dig out said muffins with metal utensils which, regardless of a disconnected power supply, still caused me to twitch nervously during the process.
One star for appearance, one star for features.
Minus one star for performance, minus one star for making me twitch and minus one star for an overall disappointing toaster....
This one looks nice on the counter, is not too big, and I really like to cool touch exterior (though the very top gets hot) because I have young children. They are able to use the toaster without any problems.
I love the bagel toasting feature, which warms the outside of the bagel and toasts the cut side. The toasting is consistent, so once you find a good setting, you can stick with that.
I also love the lift up feature, though it does not lift up enough for those mini bagels my kids love. The need to use wooden tongs to get them out. If it weren't for that, I'd give this toaster 5 stars.
Also, another reviewer commented about a burning smell. We experienced this as well, but after three or four uses, it went away. I am sure this was because the unit was new, not due to any defect.
I would recommend it.

Best Deals for Black & Decker 850-Watt Toaster
The toaster came quickly enough and looked great, but only 2 of the 4 slots worked. After contacting Black and Decker and following their instructions to the letter, I have yet to see (nearly 2 months later) the replacement toaster they promised. If I had know I would just be throwing away $50, I would gladly have spent more for a Kitchen Aid or Krups or whatever brand would actually stand behind their product.Honest reviews on Black & Decker 850-Watt Toaster
I haven't owned a regular toaster in a long time, but wanting more counter space, I decided to go from a toaster oven (which I only used for toasting purposes) to a regular toaster.

This toaster is decent enough. It goes well with all the stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. It toasts decetly weel. The only thing is the top body heats up lot more that my previous " toastmaster" toaster. it is not a big deal as i am careful, and my kids are too young to play with it.I would recommend it.

Review of Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Overpressure Plug Pack (4 & 6
I was so proud of myself, my 25 year old Presto Stainless Steel pressure cooker finally needed a new seal and the model numbers were still visible so I made the online order! Well, when it came, I gave it to the maid who promptly removed the swollen old one and replaced it with the exact manufacturers recommended replacement.
Thing is, it doesn't seal, the rubber gasket is way too thin ...
Of course she didn't tell me it was loose ... guess she thought I knew what I was ordering ... I had bragged about how easily I found the 'Authtentic Replacement' part! So it was not until I went to use the pressure cooker that I realized no pressure could be built up anymore.
Well, so now do I go back to zero and start over or just give up! Not at all happy that the item I bought online turned out not to fit even though all the numbers and models were correctly entered...
These gaskets are made in China, according to the packaging that comes with them, and I suspect that they are not made as well as those that were produced in the U.S. in the "good-old days."
I am thankful that they are available through Amazon.com, and are usually shipped out relatively quickly. If you're going to use pressure cookers, you do need to keep a supply on hand, IMO.
Presto could have made the parts selection easier.

I keep a small supply of these on hand because, even though my two Presto pressure cookers are only three months old, the gaskets do not last very long and scalding liquids seep out from under the cover--making a real mess on my countertops. These gaskets are made in China, according to the packaging that comes with them, and I suspect that they are not made as well as those that were produced in the U.S. in the "good-old days."

I purchased this product so that I could use my 6-quart pressure cooker again. Since getting this seal pack my pressure cooker works like it did when I first purchased it. If you have a 4 or 6 quart Presto pressure cooker and it isn't sealing right anymore then I definitely recommend purchasing this for it.Honest reviews on Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Overpressure Plug Pack (4 & 6
I have a 6 quart pressure cooker that I inherited from my mother. It is older, but in perfect condition. I use it regularly and needed to replace the seal. This ring fits perfectly and appears to be designed better than the previous one. I oiled the ring slightly as suggested in the instructions and my cooker is as good as new. Great quality product, appears to be genuine Presto brand. Recommended for replacement if you have a 4 or 6 quart pressure cooker. FYI, the model # is 09936 which I verified through Presto's online manual.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Overpressure Plug Pack (4 & 6

Had this for about a month now, cooks and cleans just as I had hoped. Enamel is significantly less-stick than uncoated steel, and once the pan is hot I can cook things on a lower temperature compared with my old aluminum cookware. Highly recommended.I bought thus pan for everyday cooking. It works very well. Only problem I have is the pan os too heavy to lift. But I can't cook without this!

This pot rack is an excellent value for the price. It was exactly as promised and looks very nice. I have 8 Calphalon pans (heavy) hanging from it and it does not bow or bend, which was my concern. We love it and would definitely recommend it.
I have 6 really heavy pots (HEAVY saucepans and cast iron skillet) hanging from it now. Nice accent in the kitchn and convenient way to get the pots out of the way.
A suggestion: If you don't have a stainless or tiled backsplash, the bottom rims of the pans you hang may mar your wall. We are searching for a sheet of clear plastic to put up where the backsplash should be, to protect the wall.

Our new house has pretty inadequate pots-and-pans storage; no handy cupboard, no big deep drawers. I've been going nuts trying to store all my pots and pans. So we decided to hang the more frequently used ones on a rack over the stove. I don't usually like to do that because I don't like to reach across the burners for pots, and because everything gets greasy and cruddy when it's stored out in the kitchen. But this is a necessity. It works well, fits into the space available and holds my favorite pots and pans. My only gripe is that, in the name of decor, the ends are tucked around back and the screw holes are in the tucked under ends so they don't show, which makes installing the rack a bit of a challenge. But we succeeded.A suggestion: If you don't have a stainless or tiled backsplash, the bottom rims of the pans you hang may mar your wall. We are searching for a sheet of clear plastic to put up where the backsplash should be, to protect the wall.
