I have CIA's 12" and 8" copper core non stick frying pans and they are absolutely the best pans I've owned. However the 8" pan is a little too small for the weight of the handle, so it easily tips over. Just be careful.

These pans are well built, heat up quickly, the non stick coating seems to last, no muss and no fuss with these pans. A real joy to cook with, everything slides off. They are a little pricey but well worth the price.

Once you cook with these babies, you'll never want to use anything else.

I have an Emeril Lagasse 10" non stick and less than a year the coating has already worn off and it takes forever to heat up. Easily the worst pan I've owned. Bam! Da Worst and expensive.

I own a 12" stainless steel multi copper core All Clad, it's pretty and shiney and everything but hate the ritual of having to heat the pan and heavily priming it with oil before cooking. If you don't, everything sticks to it. And the clean up is the worst.

Cheap Swing-A-Way Can Opener

Amco Swing-A-Way 407BK Portable Can Opener, Black
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

The same people who used to make the swing a way's (in USA) are making a can opener called Ez-Duz-It that is exactly like the swing a ways but they are made in USA and the better quality that we were accustomed to with the old swing a ways. They are being sold at Fantes.com currently for 6.99. I received mine and indeed it is exactly like my old swing a way except it doesn't have the bottle opener on the side, I can live with that.

My old Swingaway opener lasted decades. It finally got worn out and started to not completely open cans, especially right at the seam on the side of the can. My new Swingaway opened the first can perfectly. End of satisfaction. It failed to open the second can correctly, leaving me to pry the cover up with a bottle opener. It now a month later fails to open any can properly.

I don't know where the old one was made, but the new one is just another piece of "made in China" junk. Perhaps their quality control let a bad one through. All I know is the old maxim, Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I will not buy another Swingaway.

Best Deals for Swing-A-Way Can Opener

There is nothing bad to say about this can opener. It works. It does the job. That's all you need in a can opener. My cans that were previously closed are now open.

Honest reviews on Swing-A-Way Can Opener

Since 2008, models 107, 407, 709 and 6090 appear to be made in China and are inferior to the original which had "Made in USA" stamped on the metal arm.

I had an old model of this opener that was of very good manufacturing quality, which is why I decided to buy another of the same. The new one looked the same but did not seem to have as much heft or the same fit and finish as my older one. The vinyl handles slide off the frame and it seems flimsy when trying to open a can. The old opener was to the point that it was worn out and did not open cans as well as it had when I first got it. The new one opens cans in about the same manner as my old one did at the end of its usefullness. I hate to give a review when I'm not overly happy with a purchase.

I love this set so far! The pots and pans appear to be extremely durable/sturdy. I have washed them in the dishwasher and they came out spot-free and beautiful!

I also love the styling and details on the pans. I especially like the shiny silver lids, and the details on all of the handles. They look very classy, all the way from the outside in. You can tell they are nice pans and I expect they will last a long, long time. I especially love the pots and the steamer that comes with the larger pot, as I've never owned a proper steamer before!

The pans cook very nice and evenly, though they do conduct heat much better than my old pans. This means they get much hotter at lower stove settings than my previous cookware. This takes a little getting used to, but now that I've got it down, my food turns out just how I want it every time. I love to cook things that have a nice crisp on the outside and a moist inside, and that is much more doable with these than with what I used before. Overall, I've found that the better thermal conductivity gives you much better control and opens a broader range of cooking possibilities. It just takes a little getting used to.

The only bummer is that if you are a messy/poor cook like me, and happen to really burn something in your pan, it is fairly difficult to get the dark splatter out of the pan. But, if you follow the instructions that come with the set (mix water and dishwasher detergent in the pan, bring to a boil and let simmer for 15 minutes), any stubborn food stains seem to come right off. (NOTE: The key for me was to use the dishwasher detergent. The first time I tried removing burned food residue, I didn't want to bother with getting out the detergent and used regular kitchen soap instead. It didn't work. For whatever reason, the dishwasher detergent seems to be the magic bullet.)

Another possible surprise is that the pans are a little smaller than you might expect from the product's picture. They are all true to the dimensions listed online, but are a little smaller than I would have expected just based on the picture (I had to look at Cuisinart's website to find the dimensions since they don't appear to be on this page, but I've copied the dimensions from their website below so others don't have to go searching). That was actually good news for me, as I only ever cook for two and used to have issues with my pots/pans being too large for the portion sizes I wanted to cook. But, if you frequently cook for large numbers of people (ie, meals for 10+ people) it might be difficult to prepare everything in these.

Overall, I would highly recommend these to others. We are very happy with ours.

I received my set and started cooking with it. Love the way it cooks. Pans are beautiful. Well weighted and the handles really do stay cool. But they are horrible to clean. I was afraid to use steel wool on them and despite soaking they would not come clean. Am returning them much to my disappointment.

Customer Ratings: 4 stars

The Stainless Steel Colander arrived one day earlier and it is not a delicate one either. It definitly has muscle. Meaning. You don't have to baby it when washing it in the kitchen sink. Have you noticed how the other colanders that claim tto be stainless they tend to rust. So far i've been lucky. The colander has a round base ideal for placing it in the sink.

The best feature of this colander is that, the thing has holes and no elongated openings just holes and fettuccini, linguine, spaghetti and vermicelli won't go through the holes and there's no elongated openings.

Go on, Get one! "It'll do yourself good".

The right size, good handle to lift and hang from. I'd prefer more holes as it doesn't drain as quickly as I'd like, but I can control that. More than worth the price, though time will tell.

Only one down-side I notice. The pour-spouts on the sides are not sufficiently pronounced to avoid spilling when pouring oil out. Otherwise the product is perfect for my purpose. P.S. I think an oil/candy thermometer would make a good companion for this item.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The pot is solid and the handle is very sturdy, everything appear to be a good quality built. I don't use the wire basket so do not know if it performs ok or not.

The conical shape of the pot is excellent for maximum heat transfer and the material is good for heat retention. The inner side wall is high (deep?) enough to reduce oil splash--having the lid also further this cause. The vented lid is an excellent idea for minimizing condensation--it worked!

Finally, the handles are excellent for supporting the weight of the pot, especially when filled with oil.

Excellent unit. Heavy, well made, and does the job perfectly. I would recommend this fryer highly. Until a few weeks ago I had an electric deep fryer (Euro Pro) that didn't do the job very well and just decided to die while I was making a home fish fry. No more electrics for me. Don't forget to get a thermometer if you don't have one.

Honest reviews on MIU France Hard-Anodized Aluminum Stovetop Deep Fryer

Having been a user of electric deep fryers and going through the frustration of heating elements that don't get the oil hot, I decided to get a stovetop model. I also despise the planned obsolescence that any electrical product is subjected to these days. You just know that we could easily make a product that would last twenty years.... but no, we have to make garbage that will break within a predefined amount of time and force the consumer to purchase another one... and toss the old one in a landfill. I've owned three of them in the past six years or so. It also looks cool. :)

This one is very nice. High quality parts. I only just tried it tonight to make some homemade potato chips. The oil took quite a while to get hot, but that's my gas stove that's the issue. I also found that I probably need to move the oil around to get an accurate reading on the thermometer that I bought along with this product. I clipped it to the side and watched. Once it reached 380+ degrees, I dropped in about 1 large potato's worth of very thinly sliced potatos that had been soaking in ice water. Boom, the temp dropped to 275 degrees (after stirring them around). I could also tell by the amount of sizzle that it was nowhere near 380 degrees. So, lesson learned, stir the oil around to determine actual temperature with a thermometer clipped to the side.

Other comments: The primary handle stayed quite cool to the touch and is quite sturdy. The other side's safety handle got pretty hot, so keep your potholders handy. The basket handle also stayed cool. I'm sure that after several uses, I'll get the hang of using this. Even with the temperature issue, the chips I made were very tasty.

A fryer like this requires at least a good thermometer. I also bought a funnel/strainer so that I can get a few uses out of the oil. I'm going to enjoy experimenting with this product. I would highly recommend to other people who like to deep fry occasionally and despise corporations that produce products that intentionally break within a year or two of regular use.

One last thing, shipping was super fast on this item and it arrive in perfect condition.

I don't do a whole lot of deep frying but this one works great for chicken wings which is the main reason I bought it. I also use it to fry oysters which is nice since they can drain in the basket and it can hold a whole pint at once. Use it for frying catfish also. I'm sure it would also work great for anything you wanted to fry. It's large enough for most families (although I only cook for myself). The basket is a definite plus for draining cooked foods and is made from solid material, not flimsy or cheap feeling. The overall unit is solid. Also the lid works great as a splatter screen. Overall I'm glad I made this purchase.

We go through non stick pans really quickly. The surface always scratches, burns, gets gunked up with baked on oil. These pans are amazing. Even when the teen over cooks his eggs without oil.

The cooking surface has a slight texture and I think this helps a lot. I was pleasantly surprised, and these are still holding up beautifully.

I've used my LeCreuset for many years and find it excellent for making dishes that require long slow cooking because of its ability to keep an even temperature w/o hotspots. Although I confess a bias towards unenamaled cast iron pots, they can't be used for acidic dishes such as tomato sauces. When I cook acidic foods, I happily rely upon my LeCreuset pans for good results.

My only reason for not giving this product 5 stars is that the enamel has a small susceptability to chipping. This is a minor annoyance and shouldn't discourage anyone.

Last I agree with another reviewer who said this brand it the best. Imitiations I have used have not performed as well.

If you are thinking of buying this soup pot don't think twice. Pricey but VERY nice. It's a perfect size for soup for two. I have a smooth electric stove top. Maybe some of you have noticed, with this type stove, it's hard to keep a simmer going if you lift the lid to peek. This pan holds a steady heat creating delicious soups and stews. My husband loved the results so much, he had me order the round French oven.I'll buy more of this cookware and throw out 28 years of accumulated stainless steel and non-stick pans. I'd suggest looking at your current cookware, decide what you use the MOST (daily?) and start replacing those pieces today. You won't regret it.As for looks and design,it's beautiful. Honest reviews on Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-3/4-Quart Soup Pot

My wife loves this cookware. It keeps the heat very well and it is excellent at browning meat (as opposed to burning the meat). She also loves that it cooks the food evenly, which other pots have not done well (She has tried teflon and copper pots and they do not do a good job in this area). She heartily recommends this product.

We use this soup pot for just about everything. It's the perfect size for making a sauce or cooking vegetables. We have a small minimalist kitchen with only 3 pots (2 LeCreuset and 1 Lodge)and probably use this one most often. It cleans up easily. For food that adheres or even burns, just soak it in water for about 1/2 hour and it comes clean with a regular sponge, soap, and water. The drawbacks are the price and the inability to use metal utensils with it. Every few months we clean the outside with a scouring pad to retain its beautiful glaze.

I received this gripper about six months ago and have been very happy with it's performance. It can close up enough on small caps (such as soda bottles)that it will hold tight while I open them. It expands to a large enough diameter to open tops on large jars, as well. It provides good leverage, making the opening of jars much easier for me, since I have arthritis in my thumbs and have trouble gripping anything. It's only drawback is it doesn't work so well on some odd things: I can't use it to get off the bottom of the blender container if it's screwed on too tight, for example. I'm not sure it was meant for that sort of work, anyway! But for all-purpose, kitchen jar and bottle opening, it's a great gadget.

My mother and myself we always won the jar opening competitions in our family. My three very strong brothers have been useless! Sure enough, we both had our tricks. But some years ago I had to realize that my mother could not open jars anymore. The strength in her hands had been gone. I found the jar opener for her and she loves to work with it. She had been so impressed that I bought one for myself too. And I can say too that it is a very helpful tool. The opener is easily adjustable and holds the jar tightly for the opening of the jar. No spilling, no mess, just useful.

Best Deals for WMF Profi Plus Lid Gripper

I got this as a gift and thought that it would collect dust in my junk drawer. Not so! This is an AMAZING product. I can open ANY Jar without banging it with a knife or runnig water on it. Pasta jar, olive jar, hearts of palms, and even twist off beer bottles. I am no longer waiting for my husband to come home or breaking the jar to get the goodies out. It makes it a breeze to open stuff up! This is one gadget that everyone needs!

Honest reviews on WMF Profi Plus Lid Gripper

Wow! I am totally impressed by this gadget: I was skeptical about how the black knob would twist the three "gripper claws" tight against the lid and actually hold them firmly to the lid, but it does. Simply amazing! The gripper claws are top quality steel, so is the handle, the hanger loop, the top and the inside mechanism that works to position and hold the gripper claws. It has a nice, sturdy, heavy "feel" to it, and the handle is long to provide great leverage. I'm very happy with this lid opener. It is a great help for my poor, arthritic hands. I'm patting myself on the back for this purchase!

Note: You DO have to be able to get one hand around and grip the jar. If you have tiny hands and always need two hands to grip a jar, this is not the product for you. Consider a lid gripper that attaches to the bottom of an over-the-counter cabinet. Then you would have both hands free to hold the jar.

The quality is much better than expected. Finally no more struggling with difficult lids. It works on small beverage caps to wide jar lids. Wish I had heard of it sooner. This is worth the price!

Replace older kitchen grips. So glad to find them. No kitchen should be without them. Versatile and superior in function.

Honest reviews on KitchenGrips Single Layer Pot Grabber with Strap, Set of 2

These potholders look great, and the waterproof silicone rubber also acts as a non-slip surface. For things like handles on pots and lower temperature things, these work great. However, taking out a 400F pizza stone caused unbearable heat to be transferred to the hands. These are too thin to work for more than a couple seconds before the heat gets through, causing potential burns, or dropping the item on the floor. I ended up taking two pot grabbers, and gluing them together with Silicone RTV caulking.....the same caulking for bathrooms and tubs. The caulk can withstand heat to 450F, and is quite flexible. I would recommend to Duncan Industries to thicken the hotpad, or produce a ridged style that has minimal surface contact to the pot, casserole dish, or pizza stone. but the concept is a good one, so improvements are always a continuing process.

These have no heft to them at all. The posted product description for size is: .5 x 1.6 x 7.9 inches (copy and paste). I just measured a knife--it is a tad less than 6" in length. Very thin. I'm keeping them because I need them. Will shop for more later after thorough research. The local Bed, Bath, and Beyond has been carrying and I have been buying odd pieces of stainless cutlery--but no butter type knives. They are not expensive and have a real heft to them: iced tea spoons, tiny spoons, shrimp cocktail type forks, and the best soup spoons I have ever had my hands on. And yes, they have regular knife, fork, and spoon etc. pieces. When I checked the BB&B website I found no stainless cutlery accessories.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 1-3/4-Quart Moroccan Tagine, Red
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I had long admired this piece of cookware, but resisted the temptation to buy it because it is so obviously impractical from the standpoint of storage. Finally, one day I broke down and hit that Amazon One-Click button. A few days after it arrived, we cooked the honey chicken recipe from the little booklet that comes with the pot. Tender! Tasty! Excellent! But is it worth setting aside a big hunk of shelf space to store the tagine? We decided to find out. The following week we cooked the recipe again for a small dinner party of 8. We did two identical batches one in the tagine, and the second in a heavy Le Creuset cast iron casserole (generally an excellent implement for slow-cooked stews and the like). Six of eight of the party were "blind" to which batch was which. The results hands down, 8/8 diners preferred the batch from the tagine. Both batches were great, but the tagine batch was unquestionably more tender and tasty. So the tagine definitely makes a difference and, for me, is worth the space.

...addendum, several weeks and many tagines later...

I have discovered a couple of issues that temper my initial unreserved enthusiasm, and relegated this beautiful cooking vessel to a place in our dining room as an ornament. First, it is a bit small, and won't fit the quantities in many tagine recipes (other than those provided in the instruction booklet). Also, the children would fall upon the tasty tagines like wolves and there were never ANY leftovers. (I think one should be able to get two meals out of a stew!) Second, the tagine has the peculiar habit of expelling condensate, flooding the stovetop. I think this is because, unlike many traditional tagines, this one is unvented, so once condensate pools on the rim, it is driven over the edge by the escaping steam. Because of the size problem we ended up buying (elsewhere) a 16"-wide, traditional Moroccan tagine that appears very similar to what Amazon has since started selling as the "Moroccan Rabat tagine." It is interesting that this earthenware tagine did not work as well as the Le Creuset tagine until we had coughed up another $40 for a heat diffuser. Because of the non-traditional, iron construction of the Le Creuset tagine, it acts as its own heat diffuser in a way that traditional earthenware models can't. Bottom line the Le Creuset tagine makes a phenomenal tagine, but think twice if you want to feed more than 4 adults or want some leftovers, and prepare to mop up your stovetop! Incidentally, I wrote Le Creuset pointing out these issues, suggesting that they bring out a larger model and add a steam vent. No answer, though.

I recently bought a Le Creuset tagine after looking through several tagine websites on the Internet. I wanted safety (no lead from ceramic products), large capacity, and an attractive piece of cookware. I got it all with this tagine. It is easy to clean, even if bits of onion or other food adhere to the base during cooking. The base also retains heat for quite a long time, so you can prepare food ahead and either turn the heat off completely or to "warm", and serve it later. Your food will still be hot and never overcooked. Since you should only use low or medium heat with a tagine, you can also use it as a slow cooker. So put your crock pot in a garage sale and use your hot plate for coffee--this tagine does it all.

No answer, though.

...Newest update: Despite our following all the handling instructions to the letter, the earthenware tagine eventually developed a hairline, through-and-through crack encircling the base, and the replacement the company sent promptly did the same thing. So we may have to go back to the Le Creuset tagine which, for all its faults, is not going to crack wide open on the stove. Although I cannot say for sure that our earthenware tagine is the same as the product Amazon is selling, the pictures do appear identical, and it is conceivable that all these earthenware tagines are coming out of the same factory. It is also interesting that the single review of the yellow tagine sold by Le Souk Ceramique also describes the tagine failing, and the picture of that product also looks just like my earthenware tagine, apart from the color of the glaze. Customers worried about durability of their purchase might want to consider going for the Le Creuset tagine for that reason alone.

Honest reviews on Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 1-3/4-Quart Moroccan Tagine, Red

My wife and I received this tagine as a wedding gift several years ago, but only recently have I started cooking with it regularly. The food, without exception, has been delicious. Highly recommended are the honey chicken and Moroccan lamb recipes that come with the Le Creuset cookbook. My only complaint about this product is its capacity: it can really only handle enough food for four or five people, unless you're going to offer a lot of other dishes for your guests.

I purchased Le Creuset Tagine because it was the only one that I found available guaranteed to be lead-free according to California guidelines. As it turns out, it was the best choice both for versatility and beauty.Once you have sauteed and browned the ingredients of the tagine on medium heat, you can leave it for several hours on low atop the stove unmonitored. The result is a delectable, yet exotic meat or vegetable dish.

We use this for cooking when we go out camping. It does the job and I can't make any complaints because the price is competitive. My one wish was it was a little bit sturdier, but like I said... I was shooting for a lower cost purchase. We've used this a couple dozen times already and it does the trick.
