I read the first review and thought the complaint was with the shipping. So I purchased the Heuck to get away frome teflon. It arrived in 3 boxes within one The original manufacture box, inside another box then a box for that one. Ours arrived in great condition. BTW the red colour is a pleasent red not and orange red. I tested it for lead content with a home kit and it passed with flying colours. This has become our favorite pan, we are glad we ordered the one with the lid.

I recieved this as an anniversary present(I like getting things i can use as gifts) although the finish isn't perfect i think the pan is wonderful, i like the way it cooks and looks. sadly my pan got a bubble in the enamel :( I was bummed. the pan has a 20 yr. warranty but did this mean i would have to pay to get this heavy thing shipped back? I called customer service they were very friendly and helpful. They are shipping me a new pan and i don't have to ship the old one back! thank you heuck! I am very pleased!

Product is made of cast iron skillet. When it arrived, the handle of the pan had broken off. It was packaged extremely poorly (from the manufacturer, not the shipping packaging). The cardboard box it was packaged in did not support the weight of the skillet. The skillet itself, was also much lighter than a cast iron skillet of that size should have been, which also makes me wonder about the quality of the product.

In short, this should be an extremely sturdy product cast iron lasts a long, long time. This product, however, couldn't last from manufacturing through shipping.

I also bought a 12" cast iron enamel skillet to get away from teflon. I enjoyed the skillet for 2 months before the enamel flaked off! About the size of a quarter. I went against my best judgement and bought this product even though i knew it was made in China. I'm not bashing the Chinese but it seems that the idea of profits out weighs the quality of the product. I don't plan on returning this for an exchange. I put it in the recycling bin where it belongs. I will not purchase anymore of these products or any others manufactured in China.

Yes, it looks like it, yes it's cast iron, But no it's not Le Creuset. I wanted my

daughter to put LeCreuset on her bridal registry, she did. Well some thoughtful person thought buying a cheaper version would be acceptable. Guess what.........it's full of pits and breaks in the enamel. She's used it for pasta sauce and chili. She's not even married a year it's garbage, don't fall for the price, there's a reason it's so much cheaper than Le Creuset. Can you say QUALITY, and you get what you pay for!!!

Unlike the other review, my Tagine arrived well-packed, so Amazon seems to have conquered the shipping & breakage problem. The fig color is a nice offset to the appearance of the food inside. It was hard to decide on which color to order, but now that I have this one, I'm pleased with the decision. I highly recommend "The New Book of Middle Eastern Food" by Claudia Roden as an accompaniment to the tagine. Her book has excellent recipes made from ingredients available in US markets. Many of the recipes, especially the pilafs, can be made in a tagine. This is a nifty way to make a main-dish dinner for the family, or to put an exotic flair to a dinner shared with friends. Rather than some new gadget that seldom gets used, this can become a regular favorite in the kitchen. Looks good sitting on the stove, too.

You get what you pay for. That's what they say and that holds true for this high quality utensil. Not having cooked in the North African manner, it's taken us a while to learn the little techniques that make a dish just right. This slow/steaming method of cooking brings meat to tender perfection. We've learned to add vegetables during the later part of the process to avoid a mushy result. Spices add definition. Moroccan families often have their own spice recipes that are usually combinations of common spices with maybe an unusual ingredient or two. But adding common spices, according to recipes, will still yield a tasty result. More individualized creations will take experimentation and time.

It is difficult to judge the size of the utensil from pictures. It turned out to be larger than we expected and is really too large for cooking for two. It is rated as a six quart tagine. I would say that it easily cooks a dish for four people and maybe even six. This could be rated for five stars but I put it at four since the capacity is more than we need.

My Emile Henry "Figue" Tagine arrived promptly and well packaged. It is gorgeous, and now, regally stationed upon a stainless steel throne of a stove...sitting there, waiting patiently for me to use it for something, everything actually. So far, used it for an Ethiopian feast. Tonight, fresh, ocean salmon in a Moroccan Style. Tomorrow, perhaps a vegetable frittata. I'm totally enchanted!!! So enthralled that I ordered and received the larger, black one and now when I gaze into my kitchen, I'm filled with INSPIRATION!

Honest reviews on Emile Henry Flame Top 2.6 Quart Tagine, Figue

This tagine is beautiful and appears well made. It is an almost brown purple. It definitely makes a main dish to serve 4-6 adults. I cooked 2 delicious & easy dishes using recipes from Tagines & Couscous by Ghillie Basan. Unfortunately during the second cooking, 25 minutes total on low heat on a gas stove, it cracked!

I followed the manufacturer's directions to prepare it "bring a small amount of milk to a boil, pour it into the bottom of the tagine and let cool."

Both the product description on amazon & in the pampflet accompanying the tagine say you can use it directly on a gas flame without a diffuser. I would recommend using a diffuser anyway. I used one for the first dish I made because it cooked for 2 hours. The lamb I made was incredibly tender and succulent, and it was cheap stew meat, so the tagine worked as it should, until it didn't.

I've returned and reordered. I will update after using the new one a few times.

***update...I have received my replacement and have cooked 2 tagines since. 1 at low heat for 2 hours and 1 at high heat for 30 minutes. With both I used an inexpensive diffuser I bought on amazon. No problems and succulent, tender meat both times. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that I feel I have to use a diffuser, yet the product is marketed as not needing one. I was worried when I read reports of cracking, but I searched high and low and didn't find a better stovetop-capable tagine available for sale at any price. So I bought it, and prepped as specified in the instructions by pouring in hot milk and letting it cool.

I've used it twice and so far the results have been stunning! I love the way it slowly cooks things on low or medium heat. Onions turn in just a few minutes into the most beautiful softest most scrumptious ones I've ever seen. Meat and chicken cooks slowly and evenly and ends up moist and tender.

The size is just right to cook for four people--or to cook for one with a few days of leftovers. The size has been good for everything I've made so far from Paula Wolfert's The Food of Morocco, which I've also reviewed.

The tagine is beautiful to look at and I'm glad I chose the figue color which is deep and rich and more understated than the red or blue--which are also beautiful as I have these colors in lasagna pans and meatloaf pans. The material is easy to clean--a couple times it got a little crust on it where the meat browned but it came off easily.

Note on Sept. 26, 2: I am revisiting this review after six months of use and my opinion hasn't changed. I've used it a couple dozen times and results are perfect every time, and tagine has not cracked even on medium heat and occasionally on high. (Mostly there's no reason to go past medium when cooking a tagine, so I haven't tested on high often). If it ever cracks or wears, I will post an update!

This is literally the best thermos I have ever owned!

Temperature: I poured hot tea in it and was so busy I didnt drink it at school all day. So on my way home (10 hours later) I decided I didnt want to waste good tea and took a swig. OMG NOT A GOOD IDEA. It was still too hot for me! Even though I regretted that for a few seconds I was really surprised and impressed by this. Just for fun one time I tested it by pouring boiling water in it then 2 min later putting the cap on. I then checked the temp 18 hours later. Still hot. STILL HOT. Not warm. HOT. I do live in a warmer area so the coldest environmental temp was probably like 68-70F. With a vacuum seal that shouldnt matter but its worth mentioning.

Cleaning: so easy! It comes apart and you can just wash and dry everything really well. Then reassemble in a few seconds. I even accidentally left milk and coffee go a little stinky in here once and after a regular wash there was no smell at all. That only happened one time but I was really happy about the lack of reminders of my mistake.

Use: I have definitely locked this and just tossed it into my bag before. Its very secure and I have had 0 spills in 6 months of use. Also I like that when you tilt it to drink you dont get a Niagara Falls size gush of liquid onto your face.

VIDEO: b/c I was confused about the parts so I thought others could use the help.

I've used both the Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless Steel Backpack Bottle, Smoke Color and the Zojirushi mug and have compared them both. If you are somebody like me, who commutes a long way every day to get to work, and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for coffee every day (Hey, two bucks a cup adds up!) then you need a mug that you can easily travel with, won't leak, and keeps coffee hot for long periods of time. These mugs both claim to be good travel mugs, and keep the liquids hot/cold for extraneous amounts of time. Let me break them down. First I'll go over the Zojirushi:

PROS:

-Slim figure, easily fits in cup holders

-Easy to carry/grasp shape

-Holds true to its claims, it really keeps liquids hot!

-Easy to break apart and clean

-Doesn't emit heat on outside to burn hands

-Securely locks the lid

-Top easily screws on

CONS:

-Small mouth

-Difficult to clean inside

-Lid springs open, but spring isn't strong enough to keep lid open. Will discuss later

Now lets talk about the Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless Steel Backpack Bottle, Smoke Color:

PROS:

-Large mouth for easy sipping

-Keeps liquids hot for good periods of time

-Larger mouth allows for easier pouring of liquids inside it

-Larger inside allows for easier cleaning

-Easy grip shape, but a little more difficult to fit in cup holders

CONS:

-Lid does not lock securely enough. Will discuss later

-Top is not 100% waterproof.

-Top does not separate easily for cleaning

Now let me discuss them both and give my final recommendation. Both mugs claim to keep liquids hot and cold for long periods of time. I found in my personal tests, along with tests done with other members of my family, that the Zojirushi actually keeps liquids hotter for longer. My hypothesis is that since the Nissan/Thermos has a larger opening and mouth, it allows for more heat to escape even though both mugs are made of basically the same material, stainless steel. I've also found that the Nissan/Thermos mug leaks. I've found this multiple times, and it seems there's an issue with the O ring inside the mug, it's just not enough. If you compare the O ring to the Zojirushi, you'll find it is made to fit a lot more snugly inside of the mug and is higher quality.

Another issue is the locking lids. I've found the Zojirushi's lid locking device to be exceptional, it won't leak, period. The Nissan/Thermos lid relies on a ring to swing up to lock the lid, potentially allowing for just a slight amount of space for liquid to leak out (which also probably is why there's less heat retention).

Speaking of lids, lets get to the opening of the lids. Both mugs allow for you to press a button and the top swings open. This is where the Nissan/Thermos lid shines. When you press the button, the lid opens fast with a strong spring that will keep it open, but will allow for easy closing. The lid also does not swing if you should move the mug, it's pretty securely held by the spring. The Zojirushi mug does the same thing, however they rely on a weaker spring to keep the lid open, and then there's a notch at the end which will "lock" the lid open if it goes far enough. Problem is if you happen to unlock the lid but go to take a swig from the mug, the lid will bop you on the nose because it isn't nearly as strong as the Nissan/Thermos.

Both mugs do not emit heat on the outside of the mug, you'd never be able to tell if there was hot substances inside unless you opened it up which is good, it means they both attempt to keep the best amount of heat inside.

Lets talk about cleaning. Both mugs have a slim design so it is a little difficult to clean inside them unless you have a brush. Where the Zojirushi shines is that you can disconnect the lid from the top of the mug and clean everything, but the Nissan/Thermos does not...or at least I haven't been able to figure it out easily.

Overall my review will recommend the Zojirushi. The mug doesn't leak so I can fill it up and throw it in my bag to drink after I get off the train, it's easy to clean and retains heat a lot better then the other mug.

Best Deals for Zojirushi Stainless Steel Mug

First off i did some extensive searching. One of my biggest issues was cleaning the mouth piece that gets gunk'd up with coffee after a certain time. the more popular models like the Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler, 16 Ounces, Black have this issue where you cannot take it apart and even handwashing wont help.

So for me i've thrown out several cheaper travel mugs so i decided to invest into the Zojirushi models. NOW to be clear the other versions DO NOT have a dissembling mouth piece. yes they are cheaper but this new model is the only one that comes apart in this style.

So here are the pluses and minuses.

+ Slim. fits easily into my german car cup holder (BMW) you know how small these german car companies make them.

+ Open button. Super convenient for one handed operation.

+ Easy to Clean. again the stopper comes apart. i rinse and let it air dry. i also use a bottle brush to keep my investment clean OXO Good Grips Bottle Brush

+ Sexy. It's a sleek dark blue. I had the other color as well but found that too feminine so i did return that. I've gotten compliments for how stylish and functional it is. But the price is a little like 'oh' check ebay

+ Coffee was still hot after a few hours. Okay im used to it cooling down not burning my mouth every time i go for a slip so i'll have to get used to this!

+ Volume. 2 cups of coffee worth actually it looks like it holds more unless my french press robbed me of some water/coffee.

Price. It's expensive. IT's too bad we couldn't order from Japan Amazon because it goes way cheaper and they have BLACK!

No way to brew loose leaf tea in there. I knew that going in but it still is a bit of a bummer. So i have to transfer the contents.

Anyways i HIGHLY recommend it. i love it.

Please see the photo for a real world office setting lol

Happy Drinking!

Honest reviews on Zojirushi Stainless Steel Mug

I purchased one for myself first & after trying it out. I purchased 10 more for family & friends.

Everyone loves it. It keeps your drinks hot or cold for hours & it doesn't leak. It's slim, lite & fits anywhere. I just lock & throw it into my bag & I don't have to worry about it leaking.

I have tried so many thermos from cheap one to very expensive camping ones & none of them works like Zojirushi.

I use it for cold drinks. I put 2 ice cubes in the afternoon & when I come home from work 8-10 hours later my drink is still cold & I come back with tiny little ice cubes still in it. And it doesn't have sweat beads outside. The insulation is so good that if you put boiling water in it & touch the outside, it feels perfectly room temperature. The cap comes apart & is super easy to clean. I'm so happy & excited this is stainless steel thermo mug that works. I tell everyone about it. Just wish they have more colors.

At around $30, this was the priciest travel mug I've ever purchased. So why did I not go for a cheaper one? Well, I've gone through several of the ones you can get at Starbucks, Panera, and various other places. Some were okay and some were complete junk. When my last one fell apart while I was washing it, I decided to check Amazon to see what was on offer and found this 16 ouncer. It was the size I wanted, plus it seemed well designed. The reviews were positive, and I have a Zojirushi coffee maker that I love, so the brand recognition was there.

What I like:

The lid seals and locks. No more spills in the car when I hit a speed bump. I can put it in the side pocket of my backpack without worry.

The lid is spring loaded and I can open and close it with one hand.

The lid can be completely disassembled, including the gaskets, for thorough cleaning.

Insulation keeps my coffee hot for... well I'm not sure how long because I've always finished it before it's gone cold. The last drop is as hot as the first sip.

If it holds up over time, then it will be well worth the purchase price to me.

Review of Good Cook Epicure Square Turner

Good Cook Epicure Square Turner
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I eat a ton of eggs. I like to fry them, so it's important for me that the spatula itself be sturdy, but that the tip is flexible so that it can slide underneath the egg without breaking it. I guess I didn't read the other reviews carefully enough, but looking at the picture, I thought that was the case. In fact, the entire turning part is made of a hard plastic. It's still possible to flip eggs with it, but they don't turn out nearly as nice as with my old turner, which recently broke. In addition, the first couple times I used it, the egg was sticking to it, making it difficult to make scrambled eggs as well.

The construction of the turner itself seems sturdy enough though; if you're looking for just a hard piece of tapered plastic on the end of your turner, you should be fine with this one. If you cook eggs, I'd go with something else.

I love this spatula! It's sturdy, not flexible and flimsy. What sets it above all the rest is its edge. Comes to a smooth, super-narrow point all along the turning edge, which means it'll scrape anything off a pan with ease. I'm ordering more like this and getting rid of all my other spatulas.

Best Deals for Good Cook Epicure Square Turner

I've used this for about 3 months and it has made cooking pancakes and french toast a breeze! I also have had no problems with putting it in the dishwasher. The metal is not rusting and the handle is not loosening. Overall, it's a great turner!

Honest reviews on Good Cook Epicure Square Turner

This is a great turner if you need a firm, non-flexing blade with a sharp edge. I find it excellent for tasks such as browning chicken or other meats that may stick a bit to the pan. The sharp edge of the turner makes it easy to get under the meat and flip it over, and scrape all the stuck pieces off the pan. It's made of nylon, so it won't damage a nonstick coating.

It's not the best choice for flipping delicate items such as eggs since the blade has virtually no flex to it. But for other uses, I find it works very well. It's about as close as you can get to the functionality of a sturdy metal turner but still protect the nonstick coating.

The build quality is better than I expected for the price (under 4 bucks). The turner end measures 3.5 inches wide and 3.75 inches long. The handle is plastic and comfortable to use, and has a nice indent for your thumb so you can get a good grip. The handle also has an eye hook at the end if you want to hang it. The handle is 9 inches long from where it attaches to the blade. It's 12.5 inches end-to-end.

Very nice and highly recommend.

The product description claims that it is heat resistant yet the edge of the spatula melted a bit after normal use and started to flake. I had to scrape off the loose plastic. Now I'm very careful not to expose it to heat for very long.

I have three lifters to compare. They are the traditional styled Lodge A5 Camp Dutch Oven Lid Lifter, this Lodge A5DLL Deluxe Lid Lifter, and the Camp Chef Professional Dutch Oven Lid Lifter (Black, 9-Inch). Here is my unbiased opinion of all three.

Lodge A5 Camp Dutch Oven Lid Lifter

Pros:

This is a multi-purpose item and it surprisingly has the best finish & has the least sloppily welded junctions of all three lifters.

I say this is a multi-purpose item because the two deluxe lifters are pretty much dedicated dutch oven table / charcoal cooking items. If you are cooking over a campfire I would go with the A5 because it can be used as a fire poker, and a coal rake as well as a lid lifter.

The A5 lifter is just as good as the Camp Chef when it comes to carrying a dutch oven by the bail handle over long distances because of the T-handle portion that is welded to the handle. The Deluxe Lodge A5DLL lifter is slightly worse because of the odd downward slope of the handle.

Cons:

The A5 does not have a cushioned handle like the other two.

There is more of a learning curve as far as balancing the lid is concerned.... But not as drastic as other reviewers would lead you to believe unless you are truly an uncoordinated klutz. Yes, the deluxe lifters are both more stable when it comes to controlling the lid, but as of right now, the only major thing I can do with the other lifters that I cannot do with the traditional A5 is grab the lid and turn it completely upside down. Unless you are a tricked out dutch oven stunt cooking artist, then there is really no need to do this. I'm still able to use the A5 to tilt the lid to either side to knock the ashes off and whatever else I need to do while cooking and transporting (by the bail handle) the ovens. The point, I am trying to make is that the A5 is not as bad as people try to make it out to be.

Lodge A5DLL Deluxe Lid Lifter

Pros:

This one has the best length for ground cooking. That is about the only good advantage that this one has over the rest of them, however, if you plan on doing deep bean hole type cooking, then I would go with the Camp Chef Professional Dutch Oven Lid Lifter, 22-Inch (which I do not own, but looks identical to the 9-inch which I do own).

Cons:

The finish on this model is the worst of the three. It is almost as if they baked on the finish and then tried to weld it together after the fact... as opposed to the Camp Chef which looks like it was welded first... then baked on the finished (which is how I would expect the process to be done). Then inner bar of the A5DLL Deluxe wiggles and turns inside the outer sleeve much more so than the Camp Chef, which is very annoying.

I am not sure I am all that sold on the downward slope of the A5DLL handle as opposed to the straight, parallel handle configuration of the Camp Chef.

To me, this is the worst lifter... and it cost the most. Looks like I paid more for the Lodge name, rather than any added or superior benefits over the Camp Chef version. However it's not really something that I would waste time trying to return through the mail because the advantages of the Camp Chef version over this one are minimal. If I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would probably have purchased the 14-inch Camp Chef version over the A5DLL, but then I would be giving up 2 inches in length which is better for ground cooking as opposed to table cooking.

Camp Chef Professional Dutch oven Lid Lifter (Black, 9-Inch)

Pros:

This one is the best for dutch oven table cooking because of its length. It keeps you from having the move the ovens around on the table in an awkward position because the length is just right.

The handle on the Camp Chef has more of a solid feel than the Lodge Deluxe A5DLL version. The parallel bar configuration works the best for me.

The weld junctions on the Camp Chef are better and it has a slightly more beefier construction than the Lodge Deluxe A5DLL. However, the lodge A5 has the best welds (read: more durability) of all three lifters that I own.

Cons:

The only con I can see at this point is that the metal is exposed under the outer sleeve of the t-handle (I assume to make it slide better inside the sleeve) on the Camp Chef. There could be a rusting issue somewhere down the line... then again maybe not because it looks like that part is galvanized. Only time will tell. There really is no need for this portion to be unfinished, because part of the bar that slides within the tube is finished and it does not hinder the way the bar functions at all.

Final thoughts:

Overall I like the traditional A5 the best but that is just my personal preference because of its multi-functional versatility. It's just a jack of all trades. I can do almost everything the deluxe lifters can do, plus I can use it as a fire poker and a coal raker.

If you are cooking over a campfire, go with the A-5. If your cooking is limited only to cooking on a dutch oven table, then I would go with the 9-inch Camp Chef lifter. If you are ground or bean-hole cooking then I would take a long look at both the Camp Chef 14-inch and 22-inch lid lifters before deciding to buy this Lodge A5DLL Deluxe Lid Lifter.

This 1 1/2-Quart Round Casserole with Lid is a small but practical-sized dish to add to a Le Creuset collection. I'm a longtime collector of Le Creuset pots and pans, and 'flame' is my favorite color for them. I love the new Poterie stoneware line: baking dishes, ramekins, pitcher, and the crock for utensils. The colors are great, and they match the pots and pans perfectly. I use this red casserole dish when serving family-style at the table, and it's perfect for storing frozen or refrigerated casseroles for quick reheating on busy weeknights. These Poterie dishes coordinate especially well with Fiestaware dishes and serveware, and they make colorful additions to festive buffets. They are freezer-safe, microwave-safe, ovenproof up to 500 degrees F., and can go in the dishwasher.

This is to second another review here. This item, while beautiful, is not up to the usual Le Creuset standards (and I own 8 or 9 other Le Creuset pieces, with which I am quite happy). The lid on this casserole is loose, and however arranged, is never even close to a snug fit. If I hadn't thrown away the box, I would return it.

This item is not made in France, but made in Thailand. The lid is NOT tight fitting, quite the opposite really. Still the pot looks nice, and is a good size for one or two person stews.

Honest reviews on Le Creuset Stoneware Round Casserole with Lid

How to make perfect roast chicken in the perfect little pot: I use kosher chickens because they taste yummier. I take the skin off the chicken, which is disgusting, but really worth it. Preheat the oven to 500F, Put a little olive oil in the bottom of the pot, and make a basting sauce of a couple tablespoons of olive oil and a couple of tablespoons of fino sherry wisked together with a couple of grinds from the pepper grinder. (You don't need salt because kosher chicken is salted.) Rinse the chicken in cold running water, especially in the cavity and pat it dry with clean paper towels, especially in the cavity. Put the chicken breast side up in the pot and grind some pepper over it. Dribble most of basting sauce over it and flip it so the breast meat is in contact with the bottom of the pot. Grind some pepper over the second side and dribble the remaining sauce over it. Roast in the oven for about 25 minutes until the breast starts to brown. Baste the chicken at 10 minutes, a baste and check for brownness at 20 minutes. When the breast looks crisp and brown, flip the chicken and turn the oven down to 325F. It won't need much longer in the oven until the thighs are about 160F. The pot is light and easy to handle while it's hot, and cleans up with a little scrubbing from a 3M scrubby sponge and a night in the dishwasher. Quite a perfect little pot!

I love All-Clad and had wanted a double boiler set with a ceramic (not stainless) insert. This arrived quickly and in pristine condition ... carefully packaged, complete with a cloth cover for the pan. I've used it once to make custard. Turned out great BUT I realize the ceramic insert does such a good job of keeping the heat down, that it took me longer to make than I'm used to (took longer to thicken as ceramic doesn't get as hot as steel).

Having said that, this is a great buy and I'm so glad I found it. Will do wonders for ensuring I don't ruin sauces by overheating.

Love it. Well worth the purchase.

Pro: high quality and manufactured in USA. Very happy with performance of porcelain boiler; little water loss during double boiling at med-high temp.

Con: Expensive; no water-level mark on sauce pan for double boiler use but 3 cups of water is just right.

I had another double boiler before this, but got an induction cooktop and that one was incompatible. This is excellent quality. It actually takes longer to cook the custard I think because the thick porcelain is providing such protection.

Honest reviews on All-Clad 42025 Stainless Steel 3-Ply Bonded Dishwasher Safe 2-Quart

I've been wanting a double boiler for quite some time and finally took the plungeI'm not disappointed. The piece is in beautiful condition and came carefully packaged. The wall of the stainless steel base and the porcelain insert are both very thickeven the lid is heavy! The handles are solid and riveted to the body of the panvery solid construction.

I was hemming and hawing over the price ($180 for the porcelain double boiler vs. $50 for an average stainless steel double boiler) but I'm really glad I invested in the porcelain. I use it mostly for ganache bases and custards. It does take a lot longer to melt chocolate in this than a regular pan or even a glass bowl set in boiling water (which is what I used to do) but it's gentler and gives you better results. The risk of over heating and curdling custard is also lower because everything is slowed down a bit thanks to the insulation value of the porcelain.

Even though this is a great product and cheaper than the $255 Williams-Sonoma advertises for the same product, consider the use value carefully. If you're only needing a double boiler once or twice a year, you may be better off sticking to the old "glass-bowl-in-a-pan-of-boiling-water" method.

I have had this set about 6 months and I love it. I don't have to use any oil with anything and nothing sticks. I have had no warping problem at all as another review mentioned. I highly recommend this pan, the handles stay cool so it is very easy to use.

I received this set as a gift. After using the pan a few times (actually, twice) it warped and is now unusable on my flat top cooking range. We're talking through NORMAL use too, I didn't rapidly heat cycle pan or do anything out of the ordinary. Brand new pan which is now useless. It does have a warrantee from Caphalon but it requires that it be shipped to them at my own cost. I would avoid this set and the lack of longevity of this product makes me worry about the other set of Calphalon cookware I received.

**EDIT**: After e-mailing Calphalon their customer service have offered to send me a paid shipping label so I may return the pan at no expense to me and they will send a new one. Hopefully the replacement pan will not be defective.

**EDIT**: After a 2 month wait, I received a replacement pan. The replacement pan was also defective and I have again contacted Calphalon customer service and am waiting to hear back from them. When I received the new pan I filled it with water and heated it over medium high heat. Sure enough the replacement is warp just as bad as the original.

I've had this pan for over two years now and it is still as sturdy and non-stick as new. It's a little larger than I thought it would be, but not unwieldy and it's nice that you can cook an entire meal in it without overcrowding. It looks like the Top Chef set is no longer available, but I'd still recommend the pan alone if you can find it.

I already owned a Calphalon nonstick skillet which I love because it's a convenient size and the handles never burn you, so it's easy to take from stove to table. I wanted another Calphalon pan for this reason primarily, and the packaged set was a great price on special (around $40--I see from the Amazon website that it's gone way up, however). The spoon and dishtowel included are of good quality. The cookbook is worthless, featuring tv chefs and idiotic recipes. (I donated it to a library booksale.) Nonetheless, at $40 this was an excellent deal; however at the usual Amazon price I'm not sure it's worth it to get some extras that would only cost a few dollars anyway.

I am happy with my purchase, I bought this set for my son so I can make my homemade spaghetti when I go to visit instead of having to bring my own pans, especially being that they always expect and/or ask me to make my homemade spaghetti.

The price was decent and as always with Amazon, it arrived on time as usual.

I just ordered this cookware, after seeing an infomercial, and I learned to throw away my former silverstone cookware once it becomes scratched. So far, I like it fine. It looks and feels nice and durable, yet is light-weight (as opposed to my iron cookware favorites, which cook great but are heavy to lift). This is a better "non-stick" than the traditional non-stick software. You do have to "season" it before first use, which is easy. Also, you are warned to use it ONLY on medium to low heat (not high heat). This limitation may prove to be annoying when I want the skillet really hot. But "fried" eggs really do not stick. I haven't tried "frying" other things yet. I will update my review if time alters my assessment. By the way, I put down about 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, put my egg in the skillet. Then, when half done, I pour in about a 1/4 cup of water and cover. The steam cooks the top half of the egg perfectly, so I have a fried egg with the white hard and the yellow still runny and it doesn't break because of flipping. This makes perfect eggs in almost any skillet.

Update: I still enjoy these pans. They are mostly for sautéing and simmering, but they are wonderful for browning veggies with little oil. I can sauté a meal fool of veggies (like onion and cabbage) with 1 teaspoon of oil, and it is great. The other day, I browned chicken that was going into a stew with just a little oil. It was fabulous. As long as you don't want to deep fry (and who needs that), they are excellent.

I think this cookware is the greatest. Cleans up easily just as advertised and cooks great even browning meats evenly. What was really great was frying an egg it did not stick to the pan at all but I did have to spray the turner because it did stick to it.. Kudo's for this cookware!!!!!

I'm a single guy and searched around for an inexpensive cookware set (< $50) to support my simple minimilistic, single lifestyle. This set seerms to be the deal I need. Used my Amazon Prime membership 'next day' delivery ($3.99) and they arrived today. Each glass lid fits snug has a metal collared vent hole..I like that. The blue color I chose suits me. Bottoms are blue as well. The handles are comfortable and fit my adult male hand just fine. Thanks to my mother Jane; I -knowhow to cook...that is...carefully with moderate heat and mindfully. Many cookware set reviews on Amazon moan about warped pans and so on. I know better. I use low to medium heat ('frying' works on 'Medium' guys & gals!) and I closely monitor what the 'F' is going on whenever the range is in use. Frankly many folks are just impatient and thusly neglectful...so thier cookware sets suffer due to unintentional owner abuse. In 2012 people are too busy, too pressured and stressed-out. They have no patience. No time for such nonsense! The instructions caution about proper care and repeated detergent use..Most will throw the pamphlet out unread, then post a negative review. I have NOT used these pans yet. The 3 included utensils look fine and the turner has a nice beveled edge. I posted a product PIC so people can see the set on a 4 burner range. Pretty nice and I expect this set will show normal wear and tear same as a $200+ set by Paula or Rachel. (notice how much Rachel has changed?) The difference here is my 'cheap set' will never be abused or misused. Never improperly heated or improperly washed..I read the pamphlet. Single GUYS this is ALL the cookware you'll ever need!

UPDATE: Oct 8 2012

I've fixed Mac & Cheese twice and fried 4 burger patties using smaller sauce pan and skillet respectively.

Blue paint did not burn-off NOR did it emit toxic fumes as some ninny suggests...probably because I used medium heat to 'fry' and turned down the heat when my water for Mac & Cheese began to boil. Most users are not so mindful for whatever reasons. I am.

I took a gamble in buying these pots thinking they would be a quick solution to some kitchen issues. (I generally make a habit of seeing items in store before buying them online at all.) The Color splash Pots although aesthetically pleasing lack quality. It is shown in they're thinness and lack of ability with handling medium/high heats adequately. On the upside all the pots stack neatly inside one another so it is good in terms of storage. Good for someone moving into a small place and only cooking passively....but as for the rest of us? Best of luck-you'll need it.

Positives: The serving spoon, slotted spoon, and slotted turner are nice enough. The pans stack well inside each other. The lids have hole in them to vent the steam.

Negatives: Everything else. After only two weeks of light to moderate cooking, the bottom of the saucepan is burnt and discolored. The bottom of the saucepan was originally covered in the same paint as the sides and every time I cook, I smell the paint burning off. It is a rather toxic smell, definitely not appetizing. Food also sticks quite a bit to the surface of the sauce pan, so I find myself having to use more oil than I previously did. I will be getting rid of these pans asap. They are cheaply made and cannot handle heat well at all.

Honest reviews on Gibson Colorsplash Merville 10-Piece Cookware Set

These are not long term pots and pans. Good price and is holding me over until I can afford a better set. I cook daily and have used this for a few months now. I probably will have to replace mid next year I'm expecting. 3 stars for price to quality ratio.

After only a month of use, the inside has begun chipping away. Nice to know we've been eating chips of whatever cheap crap these pots are lined with! Also, the bottoms have all been burned!

Don't waste your money. Spend a few extra bucks on decent kitchenware.

We have previously owned Calpahalon nylon utensils and were impressed with them enough to replace them with Calphalon nylon utensils again (we only needed to replace our originals since someone melted the tips of a couple of the turners (mind you those were rated to 400 degrees, so this was a case of user error)). They are sturdy enough to handle any cooking we have used them for and are of excellent quality. On the turners, the edges of the blade are tapered so that they will slide under whatever you are cooking. This ensures that you won't destroy that grilled cheese sandwich or pancake when you need to flip it. The only caveat is that you also need to make sure that you are careful with what you scrape from a pan, as thoroughly stuck items could damage the edges (probably not much of a concern if you are using these on non-stick pans). I wish the handles were as thin as they used to be, but this is a relatively minor issue. All in all, a good purchase.

I thought this turner would be a good investment because of the Calphalon brand. Not impressed. Almost immediately it started almost chipping at the tip. Then I went to cook a grilled cheese and it melted to the pan! Not worth it.

Purchased this turner 30 days ago. Reason for purchasing was the Calphalon name. Unfortunately, it does not hold up as advertised. Using the turner on a T-Fal non-stick pan on a GE electric stove where we never turn the heating dial past the number five (5), the end and side of the turner is disintegrating and fraying. Clearly, this is not "heat-safe silicone" as advertised. Nor is it "heat resistant to 400 degrees" as adveristed. Frankly, I don't think there is any silicone in it. It appears to be a cheap, low-end plastic flipper.

Honest reviews on Calphalon Nylon Utensils Small Slotted Turner

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Calphalon. We own a lot of their products, and we love their pots and pans. But this spatula is useless. I bought it on Amazon and it arrived promptly. But within 2 weeks it had begun to melt and fall apart. I was surprised because we don't cook that much, and we don't use excessively high heat. I ended up sending it back to Calphalon becuse they have a lifetime warranty. They sent me a new one. And now that one is falling apart.

My advice: Spend a bit more money for a better quality spatula.

I bought this turner because it was recommended by Cook's. It was fine for a while, but if left on a hot surface, the end melted and was no longer sharp. That happened when I left it on a cookie sheet with small cookies that I'd taken out of the oven and left to cool.

I still use it for cookies, after cutting off the melted part. I was disappointed in its performance. I have the larger one (looks almost the same) made by Calphalon, and I have had no problem with it.

I have owned and used 3 Presto Pressure Cookers in the past 35 years, they are the best! I owned another brand for a short time, it did not perform the way my Presto does, so I gave it away! I have never had any problem with my pressure cooker's, Presto is very easy to use, just be sure to use the right amount of liquid with whatever you make, after time you will be a pro and will be able to make up your own recipes, it is fast, and makes the most toughest cut of meat super tender! I usually cook my 7-bone roast for 45 minutes, and the meat just falls apart! Great for cooking Artichokes too, add 1 1/2 cups of water, your Artichokes, place the lid on and when the cooker comes up to pressure, reduce heat to a slow rocking (the pressure regulator you put on the top of the lid) and cook for 15-17 minutes depending on the size of the Artichoke, they will be perfect! Do your own experimenting and enjoy the cooker, you will be hooked just like me!

As some others aparently couldn't figure out, this pressure cooker has a cleverly designed safty interlock in the cover that will prevent you from opening it if there's still pressure in the pot. This is so that you won't burn all the skin off your face with high pressure steam. If you want to open it right after cooking, you have to run cold water over it to cool it, which reduces the pressure.

As for it's cooking ability, it's amazingly fast. Things that normally take several hours to cook (e.g. dry beans) take only 1/4 the usual time, or less. My only complaint is that it's not big enough for large meals -you can't fill it more than 2/3 full.

Honest reviews on Presto 01241 4-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker

Our 20+ year old 4 quart Presto pressure cooker has had at least half a dozen gasket replacements. We're pretty old, so I thought it was time to get my 79 year old cook, and lovely wife of 55 years a bright new pot instead of just another gasket.

The old one worked well for all these years, and the new one already has a dozen or more cooking cycles on it and appears to do as well as the one it replaced.

BTW: we replaced a 6 quart Presto at the same time and the comment is the same on it.

My 4-qt. pressure cooker arrived (Presto Mod.#01241), and the handle that attaches to the pan has one center screw. Unable to tighten securely. I then ordered a high temp./very strong brand of lock tightener (cost more than the pressure cooker). No help. Very disappointed. The handle that attaches to the cover has two screws, making a very secure fit. Could Presto re-design the lower handle to attach like the upper onewith two screws? I hope so, because the Presto brand is otherwise the best of the lot.
