Orderd these to replace some aluminum based non-stick ones that were wearing out. I've converted all my fry and sauce pans to stainless steel they wear better and you don't have to worry about the aluminum leaching into your food while you cook. So far they work very well no sign of non-stick coating loss, and the heat transfer is excellent. They also have a nice sturdy feel to them. They are an excellent buy for the price highly recommended.

While shopping a retail cooking store, I fell in love with the Krups FDE312 panini press. A bit of Amazon research, however, turned up a disturbing pattern of sudden failures in this product. Research into other presses from Cuisinart, DeLonghi, Breville, Villaware, and others failed to produce a clear front runner. It seemed that each product had one or more issues non-removable grill plates, difficult cleaning, lack of grill ribs, flimsy handles, tendency to dry food, non-adjustable temperature, etc. Enter the Le Creuset 10 ¼" grill pan and panini press. You can submerge them to clean. They're coated with enamel, not Teflon, which means with proper care they will last two lifetimes (although they're only guaranteed for the lifetime of the original owner). There's no electrical element to burn out, no cord to store, no moving parts to break. Use is simple. Heat the grill on one burner (we have gas, but they're supposed to work with other technologies) and the press on the other. Wait until a spatter of water vaporizes almost instantly. Brush grill pan with some oil. Place sandwiches on grill pan. Pick up the press, brush on some oil, place on sandwiches and press for a few moments. Sizzle, sizzle. Wait until the cheese melts. Serve. The panini were just like what I'd eaten in Italy. I haven't owned an electric press, but I can't imagine they'd be better. Cleanup of the enamel surface requires a bit of care but, unlike every Teflon-coated product I've ever owned, that surface will probably still be there 20 years from now. And since the grill pan actually has sides (unlike every electric panini press I looked at), there was no side-spattering and thus no cleanup to do around the cooking area. The only disadvantage the grill/press combination cost me $150, about twice the cost of the average electric panini grill. But since many of the grill reviews I read spoke of this being their second (or third) electric grill, I suspect I'll make my money back over the next 20 years.

I bought the set of Le Creuset grill pan and press, but I considered just getting the press (which now would have been my second choice: traditional panini maker, this, the press/pan set) so I thought I would post this review here too. This works okay if you want to make one, maybe two sets of sandwiches at most. It may work better if you have a gas stovetop (I don't) but works passably with a flat top electric stove top (what I have) and I'm guessing it would work with electric burners as well. I got all excited reading other reviews about how this press will last forever (it probably will), how it is high quality (true), easier to store (also true), simple to clean (still true), has no breakable parts (yes, yes) and can also be used for other food items like burgers and chicken (probably also true). But I mostly wanted it for panini.

Using it: After opening it I read that this is not meant to be used with my type of cook top but I thought I could probably still make it work. And I did. But it took three batches of panini to get the crust I wanted. Too black, too white, just right-and I don't see how anyone, no matter the cook top, will avoid this process. No little dial to set like on a traditional panini maker for how you want your toasted product to turn out. Second, the instructions say, heat your pan and press on separate burners till hot. Then grease each piece and set the press inside the pan for a minute or so, then do your sandwiches OFF THE HEAT. Okay great. Now say you want to make more than two sandwiches, which is what the pan will hold. No problem for the pan, just put it back on the burner to reheat, but what about the press? It is now greased on the side you put directly in contact with the burner (perhaps more of a problem for electric ranges...). You can carefully wipe it dry (it's still hot) and stick it back on the burner, then grease it again (did that, annoying to deal with, but it worked). You can use the retained heat from the press and pan and get a much more lightly toasted second set of sandwiches (have also done that) and then you pretty much have to start over. With a traditional press you can just keep sliding sandwiches out, sandwiches in. I'm feeding a family of six, so to me this seems like a real selling point for the grills and a real drawback for the press.

After I mastered my pan and press I was all happy till I got to thinking, what would one of these taste like without the grill marks? Some of the traditional presses have two sided plates, one smooth, one ridged. I wanted to try a smooth panini. Luckily I had the wit to realize this would be a simple matter. I got out a plain old frying pan and made a no grill marks panini by simply using slighly thinner bread, and pressing the sandwich down with a spatula as it was cooking, then flipping it halfway through. I liked it better, but that is a matter of opinion. It did get me thinking though: I already have high quality skillets. Did I really just pay $150 for a fancy grilled cheese sandwich pan? Yes, I think I did.

I would say that the most value I got from this purchase is the little booklet that came with it urging you to mix spices in a small dish of olive oil, then to brush your panini bread with this mixture on the outside before making them. It is delicious. Don't think I would have thought of it on my own and my panini cookbook doesn't mention that great little idea, so kudos to Le Crueset for good cooking tips. But you may want to consider (as I wish I had), before dropping your cash: does anyone really need a panini maker? To cook something both sides at a time, thus saving a total of two minutes, and to imprint it with grill marks: is this worth $150 to you? Or $80 or $90 if you go the traditional press route? Before buying this or any panini press I would urge you to get out a heavy duty flat bottom skillet, assemble a panini, place it in the pan over medium heat, press it down with a spatula, and carefully flip it two minutes later. If this is tasty to you, you just saved yourself more than $100 and you are still enjoying a panini.

I hope to use this pan for other things, like burgers, steaks and chicken, to feel I got my money's worth out of it. It is a great pan, nothing wrong with it, thus the four stars. HOWEVER If I really wanted fancy grill marked panini I think I would rather have gone with a traditional press for the convenience of making multiple sandwiches, not using up more than half my stove to make what is supposed to be a quick and simple meal, and adjustable temperature control. Nor would I get one with multisided plates. I would use a frying pan for a "no grill marks" sandwich. Something to think about!

Best Deals for Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Panini Press

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. 99% of the time I reach right past my Calphalon and pull out the Le creuset. It's big, bulky, and weighs a ton, but it is hands down the best cookware I've ever owned. I use my square grillet for everything from burgers to meatloaf, as it cooks as well in the oven as it does on the stove. I intend to never have to purchase another set of cookware in my life, so when I had to spend $50.00 for a panini press, I didn't even give it a second thought. This press heats evenly over the grillet, and gives panini the perfect press and crisp grill marks. The pan and press can be soaked so cleanup is a breeze. I would not recommend buying a cheaper version; you get what you pay for!

Honest reviews on Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Inch Panini Press

We have two Le Creuset Griddle pans, one in a southern home and the second in our summer cottage. I use my griddle pans 4-5 times a week and love them. I have the Panini Press in our summer cottage and when I'm there I use the Panini Press maybe half the time.

I spray the griddle before I heat and use it, but using the Press is different. It is supposed to be heated separately, then I spray it with Pam or something like that, then put it on the food. This works well the first time. However if you are doing a second batch of chicken or sandwiches, you either have to clean the Press to re-heat it or not use it because if you heat it with the spray and the juices on the Press you will have a mess on your stove top.

Confused? Come to my kitchen and I'll show you.

I like to use the Press with the Griddle because my grilled chicken comes out moist and tender, but I usually repeat the grilling process at least one and sometimes two more times. Is it absolutely necessary to have a Press? No! Fun? Yes! Great conversation in the kitchen with friends and family? Sure!

It's something you can always buy later.

Review of World Class Supreme Ceramic Cookware

Supreme Ceramics
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I have been waiting for a complete set of ceramics for my kitchen. I got mine a couple of months ago, so I am writing this review now to give my true opinion.

I noticed that the honeycomb bottoms disperse the heat evenly. Eggs are cooked easily without any sticking to the pan. Even when I made omelets with tons of cheese!

Also, all of the lids have a breather hole in them, which is great for keeping things from boiling over.

Clean up has always been quite easy. Even after 2 months of heavy use, there seems to be no change to the ceramic coating. Everything is just like they were when they came out of the box.

I couldn't be happier. I only wish they made a wok and a few other sizes to complete the collection.

My mom and I both bought these pans and absolutely love them!! I haven't found anything that sticks to them while cooking, clean up is amazingly easy! I would highly recommend these pans! The handles are easy to grip and don't slide around in your hand...just a bonus in my book!

I would NEVER pay 300 for this. Just got it off of a Groupon for less than 100.00, I just started using it, and I have not had any problems yet. I bought these because I heard ceramic won't release toxins while cooking, but there was a sticker that said Made in China on the box. I find it odd that I cannot find any other sites posting reviews of this product....

The pots are fine but the frying pans hump up in the center and the contents run to the sides.

Good basic cookware. But the handle of the small frying pan started to smoke (and release a nasty smell) after 2-3 months of use. I've stopped using it, but the other pieces are still fine.

I'm very happy with the pan, heats up evenly. The welded handle (no rivets) is definitely a plus when washing it, I wish all manufacturers would do this... Handle design is also more comfortable than All-clad.

I ended up deciding on Demeyere after reading many reviews and watching a few youtube videos from the manufacture. First impression, I liked that it did not have rivets! Especially with fry pans, rivets can be so difficult to clean as food gets trapped; which also worries me about potential bacteria.

This pan is incredibly heavy, which took some time to get use to but so well made. It takes a while to heat up as others have mentioned. I use the water test to make sure it's at the correct temperature before adding anything, including oil. (Check out the free video on they have sample videos and one of them is on pan frying.) Once the pan is at the desired temperature, food does not stick and it cleans up beautifully. If it's not at the right temperature, it's a mess to clean. (I've learned the hard way.) You do have to make sure to keep the flame down to medium, even while heating for best results. I treat it much like preheating my oven. Put it on the stove, then start preparing my ingredients and within 5 minutes or so it's ready. If it is a bit messy, I will add a little white wine over the heat as if I'm deglazing, works like a charm. Also use barkeepers when needed; but am now ordering Demeyere's special soap to give it a try to. I love the 11" size, perfect for my family of four. Also looks beautiful hanging from my pot rack! It's an investment, so I am buying one piece at a time.

Best Deals for Demeyere Proline 5-Star 11" Frying Pan

I enjoyed reading some of the other reviews about this pan and have to say most of them are very accurate. The only exception I find is that the pan doesn't seem to be as easy to clean as some would claim. It is a stainless steel pan, so if something gets a little too hot or you don't have enough oil it will stick (eggs come to mind). I now use a carbon steel griddle for eggs which works so much better with less oil. To clean the Demeyere proline, I found that one of the blue scrub sponges is usually sufficient for anything that gets stuck (it is designed to scrub but will not scratch the surface of this pan). In one particularly bad case, some canola oil splatters got very sticky and I couldn't get it off until I used some Dawn Power Dissolver. The pan looked absolutely new again.

Go to Sur La Table to see these pans in person, then buy it for much cheaper here at Amazon. You will see that the handle is the most comfortable of anything out there. The 11-inch has a helper handle.

The even heating of this pan is incredible, so much better than a cast iron skillet. This pan is a true joy to cook with!

Honest reviews on Demeyere Proline 5-Star 11" Frying Pan

With this pan, you too can get tasty Maillard reactions. I had been cooking on non-stick and stainless steel (not clad) cookware that I inherited. This is much, much better. Sauteed vegetables and pan fried cutlets just taste better. It deglazes like a champ. This is a heavy pan, feels like a cast iron skillet.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Demeyere Proline 5-Star 11" Frying Pan

I've never purchased a $260 frying pan before....but I was very tired of the discoloration that happens on the less pricey models bought at local venues, so I decided to give this a try. Just once, to see if I like it.

I don't like it, I love it.

With an induction cooktop, this very heavy cookware heats quickly and evenly, all the way to the edges. On an electric cooktop it does the same. It browns meat beautifully. Burned food (yes, I wasn't watching it closely enough) actually comes off without leaving a mark of any kind on it, after a light scrub with a teflon pad or some BarKeepers Friend.

A similar incident on a $60 pan from Bed Bath and Beyond left the discolored stainless steel aura all over the inside of the pan that could not be removed with any amount of prayer or scrubbing. (Like the older Revere Ware.)

So, yes it is three times as expensive. But I will not ever have to replace it. (It has a thirty year warranty and I probably haven't got much longer than that myself, so it's all good.)

It is heavy not as heavy as something like Le Crueset, but much heavier than the stuff you buy locally. Take that into account if you are elderly with limited hand strength this isn't for frail individuals. The handle does not get hot, even though it is welded to the pan. And this is a small thing, but rather important from an "ease of cleaning" standpoint the interior is smooth. There are no handle rivets to get gunked up with food inside the pan, and make cleaning a chore.

Totally worth it! Excellent cookware!

We love the way roast chickens come out using this product (moist with crispy skin). But like another reviewer said, the coating wears off very fast. I am now covering the pan with foil each time I use it. I wish I had purchased a stainless one instead.

The Spano vertical poltury racks say they're non-stick, but the coating wears off VERY fast and is very hard to clean. This rack is "as-advertised" and really does clean up easily. Also, since it disassembles, it is much easier to store. Here is a case of less-is-more!

Best Deals for Norpro Nonstick Vertical Poultry Roaster

This is the best roaster for chicken I have found. Coat bird with WOK oil(stir fry oil) along with herb chicken seasoning and it will be great !! ~ Always a moist Chicken done to perfection, crispy skin.

Honest reviews on Norpro Nonstick Vertical Poultry Roaster

I always had one of these vertical roasters and when my old one was worn, I loved that Amazon had one. The chicken skin comes out crispy and so juicy. The one thing you MUST do, however, is put the vertical roaster in another pan, such as a cake pan or pie plate as the grease will overflow -but that is the good thing....no grease so healthier chicken!!

The pan is very small, requiring the use of a larger pan to catch all of the drippings. Also, it's a little hard to remove the chicken when it's done.

These work terrifically for me. I hang all of my pans on a rack over the sink with them. It probably creates (out of thin air!) the amount of space that would otherwise fill 2 deep drawers. Having them at an angle was useful for me to be able to fit so many pans on them I first tried the straight hooks, and couldn't hang as many pans in the space with them.

Perfect for the hammered steel pots and pans, small corner rack by Enclume. I doubled the use I get out of my rack by rearranging the pans to nest starting at back corner angle and coming forward. This is an important tool for expanding my small kitchen.

Best Deals for Angled Pot Hooks (Pack of 6)

These pot rack hooks hold my heaviest antique cast iron pans with ease, and look attractive while doing so. I often double-up on one hook and there is no bowing or indication of strain. Even when heavily loaded, the hooks are easy to move about (slide left or right) without threat of the hook coming off the rack or the pots off the hook. This order was to supplement my inventory (several sets) of the hooks and none have rusted or discolored over many years of use. Enclume is the best quality pot rack system I have used (in stainless steel) and I highly recommend without reservation.

Honest reviews on Angled Pot Hooks (Pack of 6)

I purchased an Eclume pot rack a few months ago and love it but it did not come with enough hooks and/or pointing the right way. This was to help organize my kitchen and make additional space in my cabinets. It really does the job. The new additional hooks make a big difference. Matching pots and pans pointing in the same direction in graduated sizes.... nice. And they don't sit in one another to scratch the finish.

Solid, strong, and right-angled for when you want to "spoon" your pans together. Pretty spendy for just bent metal, though, which is why I demote them to a 4/5.

The Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffeemaker makes excellent coffee. Smooth, full flavored, hot. This model requires more interaction than a percolator or drip coffeemaker. If you're not willing to participate in the coffee making process, don't purchase this coffeemaker. However, the end result is well worth the few extra minutes required. Some tips that may be useful:

1.) Use coarse grinds to avoid clogging the filter;

2.) When placing the upper chamber on the lower carafe, make sure there is a good seal between the two globes, as this will help in the vacuum process;

3.) Always make sure there is at least a centimeter or two of water remaining in the lower carafe, otherwise the carafe will crack;

4.) Allow the water and grinds to mix together in the upper chamber for a minute or two before removing from heat source (coarse grinds produce a weaker flavor compared to finer grinds, so allow a bit more time for the water to extract the flavor of the beans while in the upper chamber);

5.) Remove the entire coffeemaker from the heat source and carefully place on a cool surface, keeping in mind that the coffeemaker will be top heavy and hot;

6.) If the coffee remains in the upper chamber and doesn't completely drain to the bottom carafe, return the entire coffeemaker to the heat source again for a minute, then remove again to a cool surface;

7.) Purchase a good thermos or insulated carafe to transfer your remaining coffee to (Nissan Thermos is a good brand, check out reviews on Amazon.com).

8.) Coffeegeek.com and Coffeekid.com have additional information on vacuum brewing.

Pros: Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. The process is fun. Clean up is easy, if done soon after brewing. Affordable from Amazon.com when on sale. Reusable filter. Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter. (It's worth mentioning twice.)

Cons: Capacity is only 8 cups (32 oz.). Filter can sometimes be unreliable. Uses more grinds than average peculator or drip models. Extra caution needed when using, as most of the coffeemaker is made of glass. Instructions are scant.

Five stars for a wonderful product.

I purchased my unit about a year ago from Amazon.com and after about a month of frustration with the filter constantly clogging, I put it out of sight (out of sight = out of mind). When I could get it to work properly, it was great because the coffee tasted the way it smelled wonderful. But, it was simply not worth the time and effort to get one pot out of 15 to brew properly. I tried burr grinders and the inexpensive type grinders. I tried coarse grind, medium grind, fine grind and everything in between with no success.

About two-months ago I remembered I had the Bodum Coffeemaker and so I decided to revisit the task of trying to make a 'perfect cup of coffee and it worked perfectly!

I use the Bodum Coffeemaker almost every day now and it works as advertised 100% of the time. I have developed a system that works for me by taking suggestions from several of the reviews from Amazon.com and from some helpful advice from a Barnies' sales representative about how to store and use coffee beans.

The one thing that I was probably doing wrong the first time was that I listened to a friend who thought he knew about how to store coffee beans. If you want to go from coffee beans to coffee dust, freeze the beans or keep them in the refrigerator I guarantee you that this will work. It does not matter what your grind setting is on your burr grinder because you will get so much dust that the Bodum filter will clog and coffee cannot get sucked back into the lower chamber.

I now keep my coffee beans in an airtight container in the pantry, grind them as needed and then follow these additional procedures to get great tasting coffee every time.

Make sure the seal is clean and dry and the top is pressed firmly down onto the lower unit. I use a gas burner at a medium-high setting and do not use a diffuser. I think that the diffuser may be recommended to help keep the handle cooler in case you do not center the pot over the flame. Also, be sure you put the lid on top of the upper unit. And, do use caution, because the handle does get very warm.

I keep the burner on the same heat setting for 30 seconds after all of the water (except what is below the tube) goes into the upper chamber. There is still a little water left below the tube in the bottom chamber that will continue to boil. Turn the burner off after about 30 seconds, remove the upper chamber lid, and you can do one of two things at this point. If you do not want to move the coffeemaker while the top is full, just leave it on the burner and in a couple of minutes, the burner grate will cool enough to create the vacumm in the lower unit. If you want to cut a minute or two off of the procedure, use a oven mitt to hold the handle with one hand while you use the other hand to 'stablize' the top and move the coffeemaker to an adjacent cold burner.

I can actually hear air being sucked into the lower chamber after all of the liquid has been removed from the upper chamber, which takes less than 10-15 seconds once it starts. I then use an oven mitt to hold the handle, remove the top chamber and put it in its neat holder, and pour my eight cups of great tasting coffee into my twenty-five year old Stanley stainless steel thermos. I now have great tasting coffee all day long.

After the top and bottom units have cooled, I remove the filter and clean both chambers being careful to not bang them against anything hard. The glass is thin, which it has to be, but seems pretty durable.

I give the unit five stars because I am the one who caused most, if not all, of the original problems by improperly storing the coffee beans which resulted in a lot of dust when they were ground. The taste of the coffee made by this unit warrants five stars.

I cannot rave enough about this treasure made in Copenhagen. I have used every conceivable type of coffee maker in the past, but this one is simply the best I have ever used. It is beautiful to look at, very easy to use and clean, and makes the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. I ordered the electric version of this brand, but when it arrived, it had a defect, so I returned it immediately. I am so happy I didn't order the electric one because it was twice the amount of money that I paid for the non-electric one. I am going to tell all my friends about it--unfortunately you can't buy it in any stores, only through Amazon.com. Congratulations on carrying this absolute gem of a coffee maker!! Honest reviews on Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker

This is really the way to make the best cup of coffee on a machine that costs less than $1000 dollars. I'm not kidding. When this device works correctly, it give you the best tasting, clearest (no sediment) and prettiest cup of coffee you have ever tasted Even Using The CHEAPEST Beans or Grinds!

PROBLEMS:

1. The spring loaded filtering device, although increadibly simple and easy to use and maintain did not work consistantly for me. Sometimes I would get a lot of sediment, sometimes crystal clear rich brown red coffee (perfect). Sometimes the top globe would drain completely (as it should) and sometimes only half way. I tried various grind coursness, filter adjustment, etc and never could get consistancy.

2. The handle needs to be longer and rounder. It is too short for the weight and feels awkward in the hand because of the way the bottom is cut out and shaped in general.

3. Glass broke on the bottom of the 2 pots. I left it on the stove and boiled out all of the water. 2 pots of coffee later a thin long crack developed leaking the coffee out on to my burner. Would like to see a little thicker glass.

4. Instruction book too skimpy especially for a coffee making technique that few have been exposed to.

5. The plastic stand for the upper glass globe should have a wider base to prohibit tipping.

GOOD THINGS:

1. The glass, although thin is pretty durable (in spite of it cracking on me after leaving it on the burner too long). It is really beautiful glass, even rings when you dry it with a microfibre cloth! Has a high clarity and shine.

2. It is easy to clean. Comes apart in seconds, rinse out, dry (works best with a microfibre cloth I found) and your done. I leave it out because I like the looks of it and people always ask what the heck it is!

3. It is easy and fast to use. Takes a few minutes to dump in the coffee and water (in separate glass globes/pots) and put together and start the coffee making process. It takes a few more minutes to have the coffee sucked into the lower pot and be ready to pour. Probably a 10 minute process total.

4.It's inexpensive! 40 bucks!

5. Makes the one of the best cup of coffee you've ever had even using the cheapest beans or grinds! In fact, I made better coffee at times using cheap grind over using custom roasted fresh expensive beans ground right before I put them in the pot. My suggestion, buy Kroger's brand standard beans (right from the grocery store at about $2.50 a pound), grind them right before you're ready to make your coffee and enjoy.

Summary, Bodum needs to tweak this product a bit. I'm searching on-line for another brand of vacuum pot today to replace my broken $40.00 bodum so I can compare.

I live with a former barrista and coffee guru. He makes the coffee in our house, and he has that magic touch. According to my bean baron, the Santos is the best coffee maker he's ever used. I tend to agree; the Santos gets the most out of the bean's essence and preserves the delicate oils and acids that make for a superb cup.

Some caveats with this pot: this pot is made of GLASS. That's a good thing--plastic is less desirable as it tends to grab coffee oils onto its surface. Glass is about as inert as you can get. So, being GLASS, this pot requires care in use. It is a bit top-heavy and the tube leading to the lower chamber is apt to chip if you are careless with the spring-held filter device, which separates the upper brewing chamber from the lower serving and heating pot.

And this is a stovetop device, requiring attention to the flame or temperature of your electric element. No plug-and-play here, so this is best for entertaining or weekend enjoyment. For weekdays, I stick with our electric filter machine, which the Guru sets up for me the night before so I can stumble into the kitchen at dawn and press a button to get my caffeine dose. But...when we want exquisite gourmet coffee, this is the one we pull down from the shelf.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR CAREFUL COFFEE ENTHUSIASTS

Simply the best. As a whitewater rafter I value space, weight, and versatility. 10" nestles inside 12" and weighs little. Buy an oven bag for transport. They don't rust, cook and clean up like non-stick. Invert the lids and fry eggs or pancakes. With 2 of each size, I serve main course, side dish, sourdough bread and dessert for 8 people. Don't get me wrong, I love my cast iron, but not on a river trip.

I originally got the 12" anodized aluminum dutch oven with legs, and liked it so much, I got the 10" one too (without legs).

I've been looking for campfire cookwear with good cooking qualities that doesn;t have a non-stick coating, which is hard to find unless you want to go the cast-iron way. I love the GSI heavy-duty anodized aluminum DO's non-reactive with some non-stickish qualities but no non-stick coating to flake or wear off like other aluminum lightweight camping cookware. No cast-iron seasoning to do, no worries about rust or rancidness, and incredibly lightweight compared to cast iron. Heats up fast, heats evenly, and retains the heat (although it doesn;t cook quite as evenly or retain heat quite as long as cast iron). I love this anodizied cookware, because it behaves like the high-quality cookware I have at home (older Calphalon anodized aluminum without the non-stick coating, and All-Clad with stainless interiors), which makes it much more predictable for me to cook with.

I use the dutch oven with the legs conventionally over charcoal briquettes (you can use it over campfire coals too). You can use a stand for the 10" to cook in the same way, or use it on a cooking grate like the Texsport Extra Heavy Duty Camp Grill (12" x 16" another fantastic product.

Note however that the GSI dutch oven have a smaller capacity and are shallower than other dutch ovens. The 10" only has a 2 qt capacity and the 12" has a 5qt capacity, so don't be surprised. I wish the 10" one had a 2-1/2 or 3 qt capacity, but I love the pot anyway. In fact, I often use it as the perfect camping frypan because it heats so evenly.

These ovens seem to need a fewer charcoal briquettes to get up to heat. The Outdoor Dutch Oven Cookbook by Sheial Mills gives a chart for how many briquettes to use with these aluminum DO's.

One real drawback of the GSI dutch ovens though is the underside of the lids they are anodized too, but have a rough texture, so are not very good to use as faux frying pans. The cast iron dutch oven lids I've had in the past were much smoother and better! So boo on GSI for that. Otherwise these are a great product. Just be aware of what you are getting capacity-wise and about the underside of the lids.

I did a lot of research into dutch camp ovens. Decided to go alumimn and wanted the anodized type for health and upkeep. Also wanted less weight than cast iron. Since there are only few companies who produce gave info to my daughter who gave it to me as Christmas gift. 12 qt model.

I have used it twice so far. Did chili and bread dishes. Used charcold brickettes which got it up to simmering very quickly for chili. Total time for dish was about two hours. Heat held well. Bread (drop biscuits) took about 45 min and were not brown on top but cooked throughly. Clean up was sooo easy. Both dishes required adding additional brickettes so make sure after you've started first batch of brickettes start another 1/2 amount to use later.

The oven did have some issues when arrived. It was in single box, and bearly fit that box. This resulted in the wire handle to be slightly bent and when tried to lift scrapped the side of pot. Instead of returning I used pliers and muscled it into function and it worked fine. I assume this issue was a result of getting banged up in shipping. I would hope it was not a result of manufacturing process. There were a couple rough casting areas I needed to file down on pot rim and lid. Lid and pot were tight fit which is what you want.

I would probably buy again, only because of limited sources(that I was aware of)for anoalized alumium dutch oven. However, for a oven costing $119 it should have come better packaged and not with a few rough casting areas.

The hard anodized finish makes clean up easy and they handle high acid foods like tomato better than cast iron. They are way lighter. Choose the size that works for you. The 10" is ideal for small light packing groups. It does NOT have legs so you need to use rocks or buy the "DUTCH OVEN STAND" from GSI. The 10" is a world class dutch oven that is just as comfortable by a campfire, on your stove top at home or in your home oven as the legs are an optional extra which for me is a great feature. If you need to do a lot of high heat searing then cast iron is better. Cast iron can also be cleaned by leaving in a hot fire. That will melt the aluminum and the hard anodized finish is easy to clean so there is no need for that. Cast iron only needs to be cleaned like that if it was not well seasoned and you really burned food in it. I own the 10" and 14" hard anodized and the 12" plain. The plain finish is OK and I got a steal of deal at a garage sale. If paying full price the Hard Anodized is worth every penny.

I really like this oven liner. I put it on the bottom of my oven under the burner, and it is thick and heavy duty enough to lie flat. Spills wipe up easily, and because of the dark color if there are any stains remaining they don't show. I had previously used a much thinner oven liner that was a light tan color. It was so thin that it didn't lie flat on the bottom of the oven, and even though the spills did wipe up very easily, the light color showed any stain that remained. I expect this to last a long time.

I probably spent too much time researching this item. I think folks that have it stick to the bottom of their oven must have bottom coils. When i first pulled it out of the box it seemed very thin and flimsy. Yet it works great in our oven and is easily removed and cleaned. Troublefree for last 6 months.

I hate cleaning spills in my oven so I keep one of these in the bottom of my oven. If something spills over, it catches it and it wipes right off. A must for anyone who does alot of baking!

Another use for oven liners is when you adhere Wonder Under or Heat n Bond onto fabric if you put the liner under the material you are ironing the fusible web to and on top of the material then the iron on adhesive doesn't ruin or mess up your iron or your ironing board. It is great to work with! I have not used this particular liner but I just bought a couple as gifts b/c a few people stated they are thin. Sounds perfect for my needs.

Just cleaned out the self cleaning oven...after running it at over 400 deg for hours. Still the lower level inside the oven and parameter were dirty with residue. SO I hopped onto the internet looking for an oven liner. Have had this in the oven for a few weeks, and so far so good.

After the very first use--the very first--the teflon coating is already peeling off exposing the steel below it. I made pasta in the pot and used a SOFT plastic spatula to gently stir it. After that there were already two spots where the coating had come completely off. Now I have used it about 5 times total and the coating looks like it has been scraped with a metal spatula hundreds of times. And no, I did not put it in the dishwasher. Not even once. I used a very soft plastic spatula and did not stir hard. I've had far better quality from an $7.99 pot purchased at a discount store. I seriously don't understand how the quality could be so poor and this company is still in business. Avoid this unless you want to eat teflon flakes with your pasta.

Have had it short time. Maybe used it 12 times. Teflon came off and I had to throw it away.

The pan is OK. The bottom of the pan is not heavy like other pans that I bought. My food was burned faster than I expected.

Love my new Mirro red 3 quart saucepan. Especially love the design and the cheerful red color. Looked far and wide for it (3 quart pan is not included in the Mirro pan set) and found it on Amazon. Thanks

I like this size and was replacing a WearEver. This one is as nice but the aluminum is a bit thinner. We'll see how well it lasts as my experience with thinner pots is that they burn and warp more easily as heat doesn't distribute as well.

I purchased a new microwave and needed a microwave plate cover. I ordered this Plate cover and I'm very happy with my choice. It fit's my microwave perfect (make sure you find out the size of your turn table in your microwave, so your plate cover is not bigger than your turn table). My only problem with this purchase is that I just seen the same microwave plate cover in the 99 cent store the other day for $2 and I paid $5.

Works as advertised. What more can be said? It hasn't warped in the microwave nor the dishwasher. The only thing I can say is that it arrived with a slight crack, and was very poorly packaged for shipment. That said, I could care less as the hunk of plastic stays in the microwave even when not in use. It does it's job: it keeps the foods from splattering all over the microwave itself and contains whatever messes may take place to the glass tray in the microwave.

I have only one issue with this cover. While it works as it should I wish the handle was a bit taller. I am small and have small hands and even I have a hard time gripping the shallow handle on this. For my 6'5" husband who has enormous hands it is nearly impossible. He found it was easier to lift off the cover with both hands rather than struggle with the handle. So, if you have large hands I would potentially look elsewhere. It is perfect in every other way and is otherwise great for the low price I paid.

UPDATE 1 YEAR LATER

Having used this cover for a year I can say that it has layered fairly well however it has gotten stained from being washed in the dishwasher and the spatters from microwaved food. It does not affect the performance in any way and it is in the microwave so no one sees it except my husband or myself. The one drawback for me personally is that we bought new dishes and now it does not fit over the plate instead resting on the rim. It still works however, we will be looking into getting a larger one. So, if you have large dishes just know that it may not fit properly. The base is 10 1/4" in diameter so measure first. Otherwise I stick to my original 4 star review. The shallow handle is still a bit unwieldy and since it gets rather hot is is uncomfortable for my larger husband to hold onto. It fits my smaller hands with no problem though.

I wouldn't recommend this product. I purchased four of these lids, with the intention of keeping one for myself and giving the others as gifts. After using mine for the first time the lid cracked. I returned all four.

It does what it says it will do...prevents splatters in my microwave. It is very easy to clean (much easier than the microwave!) It is tall enough to cover most foods and large enough for my dinner plates. I also like the vent feature to keep my food from getting too soggy.

I was looking for a heavy pot to cook my marinara sauce in one that wouldn't scorch so easily on the bottom. I make a huge pot of marinara sauce twice a month and I was tired of scorching the bottom and trying to salvage unburnt sauce into another pot, which really never works because the scorched taste is still there. Maybe I am not attentive enough, but this happens regularly with all my other pots, Calphalon, Cuisinart, Farberware, etc. I can't use my Lodge cast iron because it is not big enough for the amount of sauce I want to make. Since All-Clad is so expensive, I decided to try Cuisinox. OMG! I love it! It is heavy, heavy, heavy really substantial and my sauce doesn't burn. Mind you, you cannot walk away for 20 minutes while the sauce boils, but with a reasonable amount of attention, this pot gets the job done. I then purchased a Cuisinox Elite 7.8 Quart Covered Dutch Oven, and this weekend, I cooked beef burgundy in it to perfection! Cuisinox is a Canadian company and they explained that their Elite line is thick 3-ply stainless steel on the bottom AND the sides of each pot, whereas their Gourmet line is only 3-ply on the bottom. So, stick with the Elite line and you will a heavy stainless still pot that rivals any other top of the line cookware.

The grill portion is not what I would call non-stick. I scrub and still do not get all of the residue off. Even when I oiled the grill with olive oil, it didn't wash off easily. I washed it right away, to keep it from drying on and still not successful. Non-stick is not how I would describe it. It's better than my old broiler pan, but not the wipe off clean I had hoped for. I have used it about 4 times, so far.

This is the only cast iron I have that is not Lodge. I have only used it a few times, but so far it has done as well as Lodge. The price on this set is unbelievable and it is pre-seasoned, so you can't go wrong. This would be a great starter set for someone new to cast iron cooking since it is pre-seasoned and you have a variety of sizes.

You should not turn your nose up at cast-iron cooking. There is no coating to worry about, and these pans are tough and durable. I'm sure they will be just as good in twenty years as they are today. Remember to oil them once in a while and heat them in the oven so they will maintain their thin sheen of protection. In cooking, I would use a sufficient amount of oil to do the job. For cleaning: Just scrape off the residue of what you've cooked with a copper scrubber (Chore Boy Copper Scrubber 36 Pieces Per Box. or whatever), holding the pan under running hot water. Dry with a Bounty Basic Paper Towels Large Rolls, 8 Countl (really, any brand will do).
