I am not sure why the other reviews are complaining about this set. I have had the set for over a year and am very happy with it. Why waste your money at williams sanoma for ridiculously over-priced all clad cookware? This set is basically the generic version of the all clads, and the stainless steel is fine. I have never heard of butter turning steel black or rusting it, and "everything sticks"? Use some oil! Many of the complaints in reviews I have read are a result of user error.

These are decently heavy and have a nice thick bottom. The lips on the sauce pans allow for easy pouring. The lids are glass, so you can see inside while cooking. My friend is a professional chef and uses the same wolfgang puck cafe set in his own home, except his is the older set with the cheaper handles. The handles on this set are a drastic improvement and stay cool on the range.

My only complaint would be the rivets that hold the handle to the pot. They are not stainless and have dents and scratches on them (like I care). I have read other reviews that say they corrode when left overnight with acidic food in them. It seems pretty obvious that this is a bad idea no matter what kind of rivets the pan has. I have soaked these in the sink overnight with dish detergent and water and never had a problem.

Overall this is a great value for how much you get. These are not the top of the line pots and pans but they work perfectly fine for home cooking. The utensils that come with it are a little thin and bendable, but they are all stainless and I guess a nice little bonus. This set comes with a lot for the money. Just because a celebrity chef slaps their name on a product, or it comes from china, doesn't always mean its going to be poorly made.

My wife and I bought Wolfgang Puck's Bistro series a few years ago and were very impressed. So impressed that we bought a smaller Bistro Elite set to round out our cookware inventory.

The Bistro series were made out of true 18/10 stainless steel and one piece, tri-ply bottom, blanks. They were also fairly heavy gauge steel.

Recently she bought this set for a house we are renting in FL. After reading the box I wasn't sure but for $100.00 I figured we could try them.

These are what he calls the Cafe series. They are not 18/10 stainless and will probably corrode without diligent care. They are a much thinner guage of metal. My biggest concern was the bottoms. They are not an integral part of the piece but tack welded on to the finished pot. Also the aluminum disk inside has been reduced to a scant 4mm.

After using them for a month I will say they perform better than expected. They do heat up quickly and evenly so cooking with them is a pleasant experience. They are NOT non-stick but no stainless is. On the down side because they are so thin the handles do get hot very quickly. It's not a big deal as long as you remember to test the handle before grabbing it or use a pot holder. I have had no trouble cleaning them and haven't experienced the staining others have mentioned.

When you consider a similar set from All-Clad would be around $1500.00 I guess they're not a bad deal. Just realize you are not going to get All-Clad quality and durability and you should be happy. I would recommend them for someone who absolutely cannot spend more than $100.00 for a decent assortment of cookware. It you're looking for top quality performance and lifetime durability then look elsewhere.

When I first read reviews for this product I thought I would never own it. I pictured the set being just plan junk. My wife and I were not in the market for replacing our old Lynn's stainless steal set until we came upon them in one of the retail stores here in Reno. I picked them up and found myself just plan surprised with how heavy duty they seemed. I decided to buy the 10 qt stock, the 8 qt stock, the 6 qt stock, a 10 inch skillet and the 1.5, 2 and 3 qt sauce pans. After using them for a month I now have purchased a full set, including wok, two mini casserole pans and a Pizza serving plate. I really love this cookware.

I would say while it does not compare to my fathers American Made Emeril-ware set it is spot on when comparing it to the Emeril-ware now made in China. It is put together very well and the only problem I have is finding a good spot to store all the glass lids. The pots, pans and skillets I have hanging on the wall off of a pot rack but the lids just take up a ton of space for items I do not use too often. I wish the lids were more of universal sizes so that I could get rid of half of them.

I have cooked many different dishes over the last 3-4 months as I have a cooking website called . We have made red wine sauces, soups, pasta, stir fried, roasted a chicken and made many other things without any of the defects I saw people complain of. I use a little olive oil and preheat my pans just as I have always with any stainless set with out a problem. The lids hold up well and the rivets hold tight! I can not see going wrong with this set if you like to cook and do not want to fork out a few grand for a professional set.

I hope you enjoy these pots and pans as much as we have! And if you figure out a better way to store the lids give me a heads up!

I have had my set since 2005 and the set works great. The wok pan is a little thin but works fine, but overall, it is a great set that I love to use. You can't complain about the price either.

I have bought brand name nonstick cookware in the past that was only nonstick for the first few uses, even though I cared for it properly. I bought a Circulon pan decades ago, when they first came out, and did not like it. This time around, I was looking for a 12" nonstick pan and decided to try these even though they were Circulon, after reading reviews here and elsewhere, because I am too cheap to spend twice the money for one pan that I liked more.

I'm glad I bought these. This is the first time nonstick pans have still been nonstick after 20 days of use, usually 2 times per day! I have been treating this cookware in my usual way:

* My gas stove burners have 8 settings: high numbers 1 through 6 low. I do not go above 5 with this cookware; usually 4 is sufficient.

* I have used oil or butter in the pans, to make fried rice or grilled cheese, for example.

* I wait until the pan has cooled to wash it.

* I use silicone utensils.

* I hand wash the pans using the soft nonabrasive side of the sponge.

So this morning I made eggs to test whether it was still nonstick. I did not add any butter to the pan. The burner setting was 4. I broke an egg into the pan and scrambled it with a silicon spatula. There was a slight egg white film on the bottom of the pan, but otherwise, the egg came out just fine. This egg was for my dog.

I then cooked 2 fried eggs in the pan, without cleaning it first. They came out beautifully, leaving no discernible trace of the egg white film beneath where they had been. When the pan cooled, the little bit of egg film that remained from scrambling the egg had dried. I wiped it out with a paper towel. There is still a tiny bit of this very, very thin egg film in the crevices of the circles, but it came out in a jiffy when I washed the pan.

These pans clean up in a jiffy, too, which is a huge plus in my book.

The only thing I don't like about these pans is that there is no hole through the tip of the handle so I can hang them on a hook. There is a what should I call it? kind of a shallow cave-like opening on the back of the handle, so I can still hang it facing outward (with the inner pan exposed). I have a rack (5 TIER UNIT USES 3/4 DIAMTER CHROME POSTS (Chrome) (47"H x 18"W x 18"D)) that I store my cookware on, including hanging pans from it. This works because of that cave thing, but my dog likes to curl up beside it and I'm afraid the pans will fall on him. To alleviate that, I put a Rubbermaid Step Stool in that spot. He can't nap beneath the pans any more, so I don't have to worry.

I highly recommend this set of pans.

This set of skillets from Circulon is a pretty good set of pans.

Really non-stick. I like to use a little oil for flavor, but not much is required. Add a little oil for the first pancake and you don't really need to for the next one. Cook a fried egg with no oil at all. It's nice to make scrambled eggs with cheese and not have any cheese stick to the pan. The description says dishwasher safe but because of the nonstick they are very quick and easy to hand wash and probably won't need to go in the dishwasher.

The smooth stainless steel base makes them good for all cook tops, including glass and induction.

Silicone grips on the metal handles keeps them from ever feeling hot but are still oven safe up to 400 (F) degrees.

If you want these pans to stay non-stick, you can't use cooking spray, but that is clearly stated in the use and care. Likewise, you should only use them over low to medium heat as with pretty much all nonstick cookware.

I have a couple of small concerns, which won't be issues for everybody. If you feel that you need a skillet which is oven safe for higher temperatures, you might consider another Circulon offering similiarly priced, Circulon Infinite Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch & 12-Inch Open Skillets Twin Pack These are oven safe up to 500 (F) degrees. They also have a hole in the handle so that you can hang them, something which is missing on this set. However, you get the higher oven temperature by having an all metal handle which gets very hot if you use them in the oven. Also their sides are more sloped, which means you get a little smaller cooking area.

The pans are just what I was looking for. However, it took three shipments before I received pans that were not defective. Cooking.com was very concerned that the large pan was defective the first two times I received my order. They notified the supplier and on the third shipment I finally received pans I could use. I didn't have to pay anything to return the first two orders, but it was inconvenient to have to box the shipments up and return them.

This is the first time I have ordered anything through Amazon.com that was defective.

Honest reviews on Circulon Symmetry Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch and 12-Inch

I admit, I was hesitant to purchase these, because of the price. I have never paid more than 100 bucks for an entire set of pots and pans, to pay half that for only two... but it was worth it. These pans are amazing and the food slips off of them. Cleaning them is very easy. the best feature is the height on the sides, which allow you to cook dishes with sauce or that need mixing, without it falling over the edge to the stove top. The rubber handle is a good grip. The only "con" is that they are very heavy, not that its really a con with the 10 inch pan, but the 12 inch pan is huge and heavy, making it a little awkward to cook with (and i have a little stove, 20"). But would buy again. I don't know if I would pay 250 for the whole set though, but these are the most used out of my set that needed replacement.

I put my rice into the rice cooker and my veggies into the steamer basket. While they are cooking I made chicken with a nice sauce to go with the rice. Healthy dinner in about twenty five minutes without heating the house up on a steamy summer night. Added bonus easy cleanup. I love it!

The steamer does fit and I'm sure it will do the job, but basket is MUCH thinner than the Aroma Simply Stainless rice cooker pot. Both are made of "surgical grade 304 stainless steel," and by the same manufacturer, so I naturally figured the steel was of the same thickness. Sadly, I was mistaken. I was hoping for a higher quality product.

I absolutely love this tart dish! It's beautiful enough to put out for display, and it bakes with perfectly even heat distribution. Every kind of crust comes out evenly golden and delicious, and releases easily from the pan when it's done. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who is interested in baking tarts. I haven't yet tried it for flan, but given how evenly it bakes my tarts I think it would be excellent for flans as well.

I highly recommend Pillivuyt porcelain! It's beautifully glazed, and, unlike made in China stuff, you don't have to worry if there might be lead in it. Don't go for the cheap stuff, this will last a lifetime.

Somewhere I found a comment from somebody wondering if these glasses had "500" molded into the bottom of the glass, YES they do. The font style is not an exact match to my old glasses, and the new ones say "Made in France", but the rest of the appearance is identical. I also ordered the taller (21 oz) working glasses and the plastic lids that came with the short ones, also fit the large ones. Totally satisfied with my new "French crystal" ;-)

I just received these glasses 11/9/2012. They DO NOT have the 500 on the bottom of the glass. I bought them after reading the review that said they have the 500 on the bottom. These glasses are riddled with imperfections such as large streaks and tiny lines that look like cracks. Now I really don't want to use them. While I believe these glasses are technically by Luminarc they are a cheaper lower quality glass. I'm going to find them in a physical store next time I buy. Buyer beware, these are not the Luminarc glasses I'm used to buying!

My daughter said, We had those when we were little. I said yes because they are tough to break. She said drop it, so I dropped it on the hardwood. It just bounced. Great glasses!

Honest reviews on Arc International Luminarc Working Glass, 14-Ounce, Set of 12

I was hoping to replace a few of the "French 500" glasses that I've had for so long. These are not those. These are the same generic ones you can find anywhere. They are solid, but green in tent and not as well made as the "French 500" version of old.

Unfortunately, one of the glasses shattered during shipping. As there was no return label included, it would have been more of a hassle to return than to just forget about the one broken glass.

If you're looking for a decent all-around glass, these are fine. Just don't expect the great ones you're used to.

Best Deals for Woll Nowo Titanium Saucepan with Detachable Handle and Lid

Bought the Woll 6.3 quart pot and the 8-inch saute pan. They are okay, but I guess I like the Swiss Diamond brand better (which I also own.) I wanted a pot of this size, similar to Swiss Diamond brand. SD does not make a pot about this size. I VERY MUCH prefer the Woll lid knob over Swiss Diamond's, but the non-stick coating is superior on the SD brand. I've only used my Woll pot a few times, being VERY careful and already the coating is chipping around the rim and showing signs of scuffing/scratching on the inside bottom and outside. I use silicone utensils. I believe the rim is chipping because of the metal edge on the lid. It shouldn't. The outside shows scuff marks from the slightest thing. I had the pot sitting on the counter next to the sink and a Corelle bowl rubbed against it leaving a scuff mark. I DO NOT have this problem with my Swiss Diamond pieces. This Woll pot is very non-stick and easy to clean, but for the money, the durability is sorely lacking. I don't think I would buy Woll again. Really disappointed, guess I'll just stick with Swiss Diamond.

The lids are all chipped which does tell me this is a poorly made product. I hate leaving a bad review and I love Lodge cast iron products. However, these are done very very poorly. I guess Lodge is getting like other companies, once they get popular, they start going down hill in quality and outsourcing to China. Oh also, not as described. These are rough cast iron and are NOT enamel.

UPDATE: I don't know what happen in regards to the items I originally received other than, I got duds that were not enameled, in the black color. However, after contacting Lodge, they sent me a set in the 'red' color and as described. I'm very pleased with them and they are very cute to boot.

World Cuisine 9.5-Inch Crepe Pan (51224) Review

World Cuisine 9.5-Inch Crepe Pan
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

So you are not like the negative reviewers for this product. They obviously did not do their homework or understand what they were buying. It is like blaming the pencil for a misspelled word.

As previously noted, these are authentic crepe pans that need to be seasoned and need a tiny bit of TLC...but it is actually easier than cleaning most other pans. Treat these just like you would a cast iron pan, and you will get years of service from them. They HAVE to be seasoned first, and you cannot leave water on them or leave them sitting for the afternoon in the sink, or they will rust.

When you get one home, wash it really good with soap and water. They usually have an oil film on them to protect them from rusting in storage. I wash mine with hot water and soap, at least twice, then dry with a towel. Immediately, put the pan on the stove and turn it to high. When the pan is nice and hot, take a paper towel and rub the interior of the pan with a little bit of cooking olive oil or peanut oil. The pan is gonna smoke, let it smoke until it stops, then wipe it again. Do this a total of four or five times. (I keep a dry paper towel handy, to make sure that the oil is not puddling in the pan it needs to be VERY thin coats.) After the fifth time, I let the pan go until there is no smoke or anything coming from the pan and there is no oil left, if there is still some oil moving around, keep it wiped out. (Do not do just the bottom of the pan, do all the way up the sides too...just fyi.) While the pan is still blazing hot, I turn off the stove, and wipe the bottom of the pan and outside with one of the papertowels with the oil residue on, and just keep wiping until it is not slick anymore. Be careful not to burn your hands. And that is it, the pan is seasoned.

As mentioned before never use soap or scrubbers on the pan, it will kill the seasoning and you have to start over. NEVER leave submerged in water or sitting in the sink where it can rest on water. I leave mine on the burner until I am ready to clean it and put it away. NEVER put it in the dishwasher. Once you have the seasoning on, you can just wipe it out, with a little warm water if necessary, and then dry it on the stove. About once every three or four uses, I wipe it down with a little oil while drying it on the stove, let it smoke, and turn it off and let the pan cool when the smoke stops. You will get years of use out of this pan.

The best part about this pan is it is cheap, but high quality. Other ones identical to this one are twice as much!

(Oh, and so I don't get an posting back even in my best seasoned pan, for some reason, the first crepe is always rough. Don't know why. We call it the Doggie's wish, because he gets the trashed one. But, from the second one on, they are perfect!

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

This is a real crepe pan. It's carbon steel, not plastic coated and it's not aluminum or stainless. The pan must be cured (like cast iron) to prevent it from rusting and to create a non-stick surface. The more you use and appropriately maintain it, the slicker the surface will become. If you're not ready to do what's necessary to make this pan work, you should buy something different.

But, this is the McCoy. If you know what you're doing, you really can't do much better (maybe Vollrath or Bourgeat). At the price ... a steal.

No offense to two of the previous reviewers, but they were clueless.

Best Deals for World Cuisine 9.5-Inch Crepe Pan (51224)

I had one of these pans for over an year. Extremely good pan for Crepes and omelets. Never had an issue with rust. I am not sure how the earlier reviewer get it rusted. I am assuming that he may storing water in it, or may not be washing it and drying it after use.

First few times I had problems with crepes sticking to it.

There are few things you have to do with this pan. After you finished using it wash it hot water, never use soap. Heat it on the stove top for few minutes and apply some oil it. It takes me 3 mins to do it, which personally is not an issue for me.

You don't have to deal with the possible health issues with this, and it makes much better tasting omelets and crepes. It is hard to get a crispy crepes with non-sticks. I have crepes pans that costs almost 10 times as this one, but this still work almost as good as the expensive one.

Honest reviews on World Cuisine 9.5-Inch Crepe Pan (51224)

Purchased the Crepe Pan for my daughter (16). She loves crepes and she loves this pan. I downloaded information on "seasoning" the pan. This was really a good idea as she was not aware of seasoning and sometimes kids do not like to be told how to do stuff. When she opened the box the seasoning instructions were included with the pan. The pan worked great right off the bat. It is a good pan. You won't be disappointed.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for World Cuisine 9.5-Inch Crepe Pan (51224)

Wish I had bought one of these years ago. I have well seasoned cast iron pans, but this beats them for non-stick. I intend to get one or two more of these carbon steel pans, one probably will be a paella pan good for stir frying.

I had no problems seasoning it. The more you use it, the darker it gets, the better the seasoning. I wash it when still warm with a stiff dish brush and hot water. Nothing sticks to it. Great purchase.

Also, someone mentioned wiping the sides and bottom when seasoning. I do that too to keep the whole pan from getting any rust. Once you have the outside and bottom sealed, it pretty much will stay that way unless you're forgetful and use soap on it.

For all of you who seem to have a problem with this pan, just start over and do it again. You didn't ruin it just scrub it well with soap and hot water (only time to use soap) and put it on the stove to heat. Rub Crisco or oil on it in a thin coat (don't forget the sides or edges). When it starts to smoke, turn off the heat and leave it for a few minutes. Wipe with a paper towel. Put more Crisco on as above. Repeat the process a couple/several times. You want thin coats of oil. It should look really slick when you've done it correctly. Don't worry about any uneven color in the pan eventually it will all turn darker and even out. Even if it doesn't, its fine. And every time you use it, wipe a little oil on after washing, before you put it away.

Also, if something sticks to it, you probably didn't let it preheat long enough or didn't have it at a high enough temp.

I purchased this Ovente KS93 electric kettle in December 2011. It is attractive, sturdy and does the job quite loud, though. However, the product began failing after less than 90 days of use. The "ON" toggle switch will not stay down, so the kettle will not heat unless you place something on top of the switch to keep it in the on position. So much for convenience, and certainly not safe.

The tab to turn the kettle on is easy, the pour spout works much nicer than my other kettle, and I like being able to see the water level. It has a nice large capacity as well. So far so good! The only thing is that there is some plastic in contact with the boiling water.

I wanted a new canning pot to replace the steal enamel pot my grandma bought in the 1960's. The old pot was a little bigger which was to big and didn't have an insert so removing jars were always a little scary. Also I got the new induction stove and love how it works on my stove.

Great quality pot. I love it! Good looking, heavy, definitely recommend it. Although I purchased the wrong size, I am not returning it as It it too good of a piece! It will be perfect to cook corn on the cob.

I unfortunately had to throw these whisks in the trash. I was whisking some pancake batter when I noticed drops of brownish water getting sprayed around the bowl. Upon further examination I saw that the water was leaking out of the handle where each of the silicone pieces is attached. I checked out the other two whisks and all three of them had water trapped inside the handles from when they had been washed. Very disappointing.

I bought these to use with my Anolon cookware. They are great. The different sizes allow me to use them with any size pot. I use them for mixing, whipping, gravies, etc. and I don't have to worry about them scratching my cookware. Would definitely recommend!

I throw these three whisks in the trash after i noticed small black peices coming out of the handle. It's really disappointing and dangerous. Be aware!

I really enjoy these whisks. They come in handy and look very nice. One has fallen apart, but I was able to put it back together. The silicone part isn't very sturdy, so sometimes it is necessary to have a more solid whisk for thicker foods.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Cool, I thought, when I saw this set of Wusthof knives coupled with kitchen shears in what looked to be an attractive storage block.

Wusthof makes knives perfect for those of us that consider ourselves to be a little more talented in the kitchen than your average housewife. Their knives are not super high end, but they are certainly a major notch above many other brands at traditionally reasonable prices.

The cost of this set is about equal to that of what you would pay individually for the 6" Cook's Knife and the two different sized paring knives. Buying the set is like getting a bonus gift of shears plus a block into which all four utensils fit. Or so I thought..

My older Wusthof's Cook's Knife is a few years old. Compared to the one in this set, it is heavier and longer by an inch. No big deal there, I'm just contrasting the difference before stating I found the new knife to be of equal quality to my old. My issues are with the paring knives and the wood block.

The block that holds the set is pitted and looks unfinished on the left side. It is as if an entire step in the sanding process was missed. If that was all, I could just turn the set to face that one side to the wall. However, the face of the block is split along the grain with an especially big gap running from the top to the area between the Cook's Knife and the first paring knife.

What looked to be an attractive holder on-line is ugly and cheap looking in person. Even if it had been finished correctly and did not have the split in front, it would still not look worthy of the Wusthof label for no other reason than the mismatched knife holes. They are just big slots that are not specific to knife size leaving the paring knives plenty of room to slide around and lose what edge they have. Very disappointing.

Still, even though the block holder looks junky, the price is a good deal, right? Wrong. The shears are nothing special. If I was buying only shears I could get an equal quality pair for about $10.

Neither of the paring knives that came with the block (3" or the 4.5") match the quality my 3-5 year old Wusthof paring knife. Side by side, the handle of the 3" knife that came with the block looks a little smaller than mine and definitely weighs less.

Instead of this questionable set, I would recommend buying a Wusthof 7" Cook's knife and their 3" Paring Knife that they sell separately. Get a no-name set of shears only if you need really them. The need for shears is minimal; I cannot remember using mine at all in the last year.

What looked at first to be a good deal for a great set of knives in an attractive block turned out to be, in my opinion, a marketing tool to move inexpensive paring knives and shears.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I will begin by saying that I have no previous experience with Wusthof knives, or really any other name-brand knives. We are the kind of people who buy a knife here and there, now and then, and keep it until it doesn't work well any more. So you will not get from me the kind of high-end, fancy terminology review that would be done by a really into-it, professional or amateur cook.

The block we received looks just fine. No splits, unfinished sides, or other flaws. It is quite compact, with a small footprint on the counter. The slots in the holder are all uniform sizes, and not fitted to the various knives or shears. I don't know if that will harm the knives in any way. I don't plan to jostle them and would be careful in pulling them out and replacing them in any event.

The largest knife is somewhat on the small side for a chef's knife, with hollowed out grooves on the side. These are supposed to keep food from sticking to the blade, a problem we have had in the past with other knives. I'm not entirely sure the design of this knife completely eliminates the problem, but it does seem to help somewhat.

The utility knife is a nice step up or down from the other two knives. It comes in handy for slicing vegetables.

The paring knife is small and sharp. The shears operate smoothly and come apart for easy cleaning, which is important to me. I have an older pair of similar shears that do not come apart, and keeping them clean is much more work.

The set is light in weight, compared to some of our other, admittedly low end knives. This is not a problem for us. The knives feel balanced and comfortable in my hand. I might add that my husband, who has larger and somewhat arthritic hands, likes all these knives very much.

We cook at home almost every day, although we are by no means gourmet cooks. From what we have read on-line, this kind of knife is easier to maintain and easier to keep sharp than the more expensive, forged lines. That sounds good to us. For our level of skill and interest in cooking, this set is perfect.

Best Deals for Wusthof Gourmet 5-Piece Studio Knife Set

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This "Studio"-size set has three quite useful knives along with a fantastic pair of scissors in a compact and solidly made knife block. There are two versions of the Studio set, of which this, the "Gourmet" set, is the most affordable, and, for most folks, also presents the best value for your dollar. However, if you are very demanding when it comes to knives, you will probably want to pass this one up and buy the Classic set.

Wüsthof is a premier cutlery company located in Solingen, Germany, and they make several different lines of knives, all of which are forged, except for those in the "Gourmet" line, which are stamped. It seems a bit counter-intuitive to call the budget products "Gourmet", because if you really are going to do a lot of cooking and want the best quality and longest lasting, you will appreciate or even demand the classic knives. But if they are out of your budget, you can still get some quality German knives with this set. They would be a good introductory set, and probably fine for many people who aren't "Gourmet" chefs, lol. I would guess that they are better than the knives most people have in their kitchen. The technology for making stamped knives has come a long way, and of course, the German Wüsthof company will give you the best that is available within that technology.

Qualities particular to this set, besides the much lower price tag include: they are lighter, they come to a very sharp point, and the blades are extremely sharp. This type of metal is extremely hard. As to the individual knives, the six inch chef's knife has hollow scallops along each side of the blade, which the Classic does not. These are supposed to reduce drag during cutting. The blades seem relatively more flexible. The small paring knife will come in handy for detail work. The middle size knife--a 4 1/2 inch utility knife will be good for cutting sandwiches, slicing and some chopping. The "big" knife--a six inch chef knife will be handy for most jobs, but it really isn't big enough to do all that a chef's knife should do--for instance, it would be difficult to chop up a cabbage head with it. I am used to my 8 inch Wüsthof for such jobs. Some people prefer an even bigger chef's knife, but as an average sized woman, the 8 is big enough for me. The plus side is that this more handy, but you might want to supplement it with a santoku type knife for variety and power. A serrated bread knife would also be useful.

I really like the come-apart scissors. They are the same ones that are in the "Classic" line.

In sum, this "Gourmet Studio Knife Set" fills a niche for people who want a compact set of nicely designed, sharp knives for budget price. I received this set as a Vine reviewer, and I will definitely use them, but I personally greatly prefer the heft and quality of the Wüsthof "Classic" line, and I am willing to spend the extra dollars to have a product that I can enjoy using for my lifetime. I hope this helps.

Honest reviews on Wusthof Gourmet 5-Piece Studio Knife Set

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Wusthof is the premier name in quality knives and they arguably make the best knives in the world according to sources including Consumer Reports. It's important to remember, though, that like most manufacturers they make knives at different price points, and that means some compromises in materials and build. To a professional chef, the knives they use are a primary tool relied heavily every day. They must be razor sharp, retain their edge and have a durability to withstand years of use. A home cooking enthusiast looks for the same qualities and takes pride in knowing they have the best tools available. A more casual user, especially one on a tighter budget might be looking for just a good sharp knife.

There are two basic methods of manufacturing a knife. Stamped knives are cut from a large sheet of steel whether cut by a laser or punched out with brute force. Obviously this is the quickest method and allows a large cost savings to the manufacturer making the knives less expensive to purchase. The metal is often to some degree thinner and metal softer, meaning a lower carbon content. The metal part of the knife consists of the blade and a tail extension that is embedded or joined to a handle. The advantages of stamped knives are that they are less expensive, they are lighter, and keep a sharp edge but not nearly as long as the knives made by the more laborious and expensive forging process. This is the process used in making this Gourmet line of Wusthof.

Wusthof's most famous and traditional knives belong to the "Classic" line. Those knives are forged, that is formed from a single block of steel. They say there are 40 steps in their production. The steel has a higher carbon content making the metal harder and thus allowing it to retain its sharpness longer. Instead of having a "tail" extending from the blade that is joined to the handle, the metal handle extends the full length of the entire knife. A handle is added by "sandwiching" the blade handle between two exterior sides of the handle and then it is riveted in place with three rivets. The result is a blade that is heaver, a knife that feels much more substantial in the hand, retains its edge longer and has an obviously superior construction.

Which one is for you? It depends of your needs. I own a large Classic set and have owned them for years. While only a casual cook at home, I find these knives a complete joy to own and their effectiveness is superb. Preparation is expedited and cuts are precise. The Gourmet line offered here is a perfectly acceptably group of knives. In the short time I have them they seem very sharp and effective. I don't like the light feel in my hand and the construction, though to most would seem normal, by comparison is clearly a cheap alternative. But it is offered at about half the price. I imagine they will need to be sharpened more often which takes time and I don't enjoy doing. So consider the differences and see what meets your personal needs. Either way Wusthof is a superior knife in my experience and i recommend them highly.

I was very disappointed by this knife set! Wusthof knives are typically great quality, but this set was mediocre. The handles are cheap and flimsy, and none of the three knives or scissors fit well in the wood block--all the tools flopped to one side.

I ended up buying a few matching knives a la carte from a local closeout store and am much more satisfied despite having spent 60% less. Thankfully Amazon always has free return shipping in cases like this!
