I bought this saucepan because I couldn't find one in cast iron. I also did not want a non stick lining. I no longer trust that stuff.
I'm quite happy with my purchase. It's the first professional grade piece. It looks great. It does not stain. It does well in the dishwasher. The pot was bought as a gift for my daughter and her boyfriend. As I was told it is a great pot and really enjoy using it.

I have been using this for a couple of months and it's time consuming to get the grain through it. You have to start at a low setting and keep moving it through until it's fine enough for baking. I think it's tough to clean up but my main concern is that it seems to be a big strain on the unit itself and that concerns me. I could have bought a free standing grain mill for another 80-100 dollars but to replace my mixer is as you know alot more so...I'm on the fence about whether or not this was a good puchase. On the positive, it does work and the bread is very tasty.
*****Update 5/12/11-I have had some issues with my kitchen aid mixer since using the grain mill. It's slowing down and making strange noises. My sister in law called kitchen aid because when she bought and used the grain mill it broke her mixer. This grain mill according to kitchen aid is not recommended for use with a machine that is not at least 500watt and in the professional series. I'm pretty upset that we had to call to get that information. I've looked and looked everywhere online and in the manuals and I can't find it. It seems pretty shady to keep that info to themselves.
Dinged it a star because:
limited to grinding 10 cups of flour during a session, then having to wait 45 minutes for the motor to cool. Instructions do not delineate between professional series mixers and smaller models so not sure if this is an issue for the bigger mixers.
blades are steel long term storage requires disassembly and coating blades with mineral oil to limit rust. Must clean initially before first use to avoid clogging
housing is fairly substantial aluminum, hopper holds about three cups of berries. The housing does rock and roll a bit when you grind at the finest setting for flour in a single pass; nothing broke and I guess it would be ok, but seeing the deflection in that housing left me uncomfortable.
Bottom Line ok for occasional use. Buy a dedicated device if you have 10 kids and make bread every day from fresh ground flour as I can't see this holding up to serious use for any length of time.
-Easy to attach, use, clean, and put away.
-Doesn't take much storage room.
-Not insanely loud (it is loud.. but not ear piercing loud like other stand-alone mills I've heard).
-Doesn't heat the flour as you mill it.
Drawbacks to this grain mill are related to your intended use.
-There is a size limit to the hopper (I don't grind enough at a time to have this bother me).
-You can only grind so much grain before you have to let the motor cool (again, I don't grind enough at a time to worry about this).
-On the finest setting, the grain isn't as fine as a $200 plus mill, however, this mill didn't cost $200 plus.
I usually start milling on the finest setting, and then run all of that flour back through on the finest setting. Twice through makes a noticeable difference, three times is unnecessary.
GRAIN SIZE: On the finest setting, it mills to a powder--not a "coarse sand" like another reviewer said--which should be sufficient for bread making (If you are having problems with it rising, you can always just add a finer powder to it to help it rise, such as Vital Wheat Gluten, or even just plain store flour. Just notice how it behaves when you're kneading. If it's gummy and together, then it's fine. If it is chunky and breaks up, then you need to add something. Eggs help bind it together as well. It bakes. That's what is important.)
MINIMUM WATTAGE REQUIRED: I own the 250 Watt Kitchen Aid (the cheapest model), and have used this mill with no problems so far. While it does heat up after a while, evidently they all do. You just need to let it cool before filling up the hopper again. To me, this is not such a big deal.
Just wanted to relay these few thoughts. (by the way, I am using Whole Wheat Berries).
I've only had it for a few days ,but I will give an update once I have had it for longer.
****UPDATE (4 months later):**** So far so good. I have had no issues with the unit, other than it heating up after about 5-10 minutes of use. It is just enough to grind a full load at a time, to make about 2-3 cups of flour, if I recall correctly. I have not tried milling anything else but wheat berries. I use the finest setting all the time, and it always comes out nice a powdery. Never washed it. Just blow it down a bit, store it dry, and that's it. It is very well built; all steel. The thing is over-engineered, like it was designed by German engineers. It puts some stress on my little 250 WATT unit, but so far the thing has not broken down so that's good!

I've used this mill for a year now. I probably grind once or twice a week. It's better to use flour while fresh, so grind less flour, more often. I love this mill for the following reasons:-Easy to attach, use, clean, and put away.

Just a quick note; I am wondering if some of the negative reviews have been addressed by Kitchen Aid. The unit I bought (as of 8/2011) does not appear to have these problems anymore. I purchased this a while back (summer I believe) but I finally pulled it out last week to bake cookies. We use the actual Silpat brand baking mats at school (I attend Sullivan University's Culinary Arts Program) and there is NO DIFFERENCE!!! They keep my cookies from sticking, they brown evenly, and cleanup is a breeze!! I just purchased a second so I can have two pans going in my oven at the same time!! I can't wait to purchase the 9" rounds for cakes!
UPDATE!!
While researching, I just realized that Sil-Eco is a division of SILPAT!!! It looks like Silpat is in stores while Sil-Eco is exclusively for Amazon.com and Kitchen Collection (at a fraction of the cost!!!)! How cool is that!! So no wonder there's no difference between the two!! I'm so happy right now!!!
To be honest, I was surprised to find such a great product at a fraction of the price of the Silpats. I didn't realize these were made in China, as one reviewer points out, but that didn't necessarily matter to me. It might to you, and you should know that they are. That said, I feel I can definitely recommend these, especially for people who are tired of buying roll after roll of parchment paper. I should say, I haven't exactly gotten rid of the parchment paper just yet--it's good for lining the bottoms of cake and bread tins. But these are exactly what's needed when you're baking either free-form breads, or quick-breads.

I was wondering what the difference was between these and the Silpats that my friends use--as it turns out, only the price! These work great--I've used them multiple times for all sorts of breads--profiteroles, challah, scones (not cookies--I don't bake them that much, although I can't see how these wouldn't work for them)--and I've never had a problem with them. I just rinse them in some soapy water, and if there's some extra grease/flour on there, I wipe it gently with a moistened towel, and it's as good as new. It's also worth noting that whereas for many cookie sheets you have to wait for the sheet to cool before baking another batch (say, if you're making a bunch of cookies), these sheets are very quick-cooling, cutting down on a lot of cooling time.To be honest, I was surprised to find such a great product at a fraction of the price of the Silpats. I would give Weston's customer service a 5 star rating, but not for this grinder. I purchase this grinder on June 11, 2013, received the grinder within two business days later, and as of today, I can not grind a boneless chicken thigh without it getting clogged. There's no problem grinding the meat; the ground meat just backs up into the Auger in the grinding head until the head gets so that full the excess meat gets stuck between the grinding knife and the grinder plate. It's almost as if the grinder is operating in reverse, even though it does not have a reverse function. So, every time I ground a chicken thigh, I would have to remove the grinding head, scoop up the ground meat in the head, clean the Auger and knife and then unclog the grinder plate. Well after several telephone calls to Weston's customer service, they are sending me a new grinding head and parts to the head. I have to say this grinder certainly does not live up to the Weston brand name. Their customer service was excellent, very responsive and eager to fix the problem asap. If the new parts do not resolve the problem, this grinder is going back to Amazon.
To be fair, I purchase this model based on positives review from a different website. I could have just purchased a lemon.
June 21,2013 The problem is resolved. No new replacement parts needed. Weston customer service sent me photos on how the blade should be positioned in the grinding head and based on the pictures I realized I didn't position the blade properly. I wish they had sent the pictures before instructing me to use a rubber mallet to firmly tap the front ring nut so that the blade and plate are firmly flushed against the grinding head to stop the clogging. Well, I felt I had to revised my rating from 2 stars to only 3 stars for the following reasons:
1. Once I correctly positioned the grinding blade, the grinder goes through the meat like butter. It's fast and not too loud. However, when I dismantled the grinding head to wash the part, the grinder left whole pieces of meat at the end of the auger, the end facing the output where the blade and grinding plate are located. Yes, it's no big deal to have those pieces of whole meat go through the grinder again, provided it was not so hard to dismantle the grinding head.
2. It's not easy to remove the grinding plate so you can wash the plate, auger, blade and the inside body of the grinding head that housed all the parts. I was told by their customer service that once I remove the front ring nut the plate should just fall out. Well, not in my case. After almost 30 minutes and two broken steak knives, I was able to pry the plate away from the grinding head by inserting a steak knife into a small gap between the plate and head. In order to get the small gap, I had to turn the head so that the plate is facing downwards and then shake the head very hard.
All I can say, yes it grinds well, but taking the head apart to clean is not easy.
Nov. 9, 2013. So, yesterday my husband shot a deer and we had to process it quickly since the temperatures were going to get into the 60's. Again, a flawless performance. We ground 135 lbs. of venison in approx. 4 hrs. We did grind it twice and it is a little harder to feed the ground meat through for the second grinding but the initial grinding is very quick. It is fairly quiet and is not irritating to hear it grinding for several hours at a time. The feed tray edge is kind of sharp, so if you are using it on a higher surface like we do and rest your arm on the edge, your arm will probably get sore like ours do. Overall, for the price, I think this is a very good grinder.

Oct. 2013. We got this grinder to grind a large amount of meat on one day and it performed flawlessly. It took about 9 hrs. to do 450 lbs. of beef ground twice. It never even slowed down. We have only used it that one time so far but it sure seems like it will be able to do anything we could want to do. I read some reviews before getting it and they talked about grinding bones, but we didn't use it for that, so I wouldn't be able to comment on whether it could do that or not. The only issue we have had, is when we got it, my husband wanted to clean it thoroughly to get it ready to go and he took the cover off the machine and when he put it back on and tried to turn it on it didn't do anything. He got to looking at the manual and discovered that all the pictures inside the manual show the cover situated with the handle to the back and that is how he put it on, but upon further inspection he found that one of the handle bolts sits right on a part of the motor that keeps it from turning, so when he took it back off and put the handle to the front like it shows on the front cover of the manual, it worked fine. We would recommend this product to anyone looking for a meat grinder.Nov. 9, 2013. I would reccommend this pan to anyone who wants these conveniences at a very reasonable price.

Best Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer Deals
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $365.00
Sale Price: $279.00
Today's Bonus: 24% Off

I used to work in a deli and have used my fair share of commercial slicers. When I decided to buy one for home use, I knew that I didn't want one of the large, cumbersome slicers that I had used in the past, and that this would mean some tradeoffs in terms of power and quality. After taking a long look around, I finally decided on the CC-630, and I'm glad I did. I believe this unit offers an excellent compromise between commercial power and everyday practicality.
Please don't misunderstand... you don't want this slicer if you're looking to open a deli or restaurant. You can feel the slicer slow down as it cuts through denser foods (like meat and cheese) that the commercial slicers would just pass right through.
This little unit is best suited to the home user who wants to be able to cut enough cold cuts for a day's use say packing lunches for the family. It's also great for slicing up roasts, BONELESS turkey/chicken, cheeses, and vegetables. Whatever you slice, slice only what you will consume immediately or at least in the next day or so. That's the secret to those deli sandwiches... cut everything fresh for the best flavor.
Of surprise to me was how well this unit handles bread. It needs to be a fairly flexible bread (no cornbread/biscuits) as it has to bend slightly to accomodate the shape of the slicer. If you make your own bread, you can now slice it perfectly at nearly any thickness.
Just be sure to let anything that you make yourself cool completely before slicing. A warm roast or turkey breast just isn't rigid enough to hold itself together against the moving blade. If you're looking to use this for your thanksgiving dinner then you'd be better off investing in a good sharp carving set (not the serrated kind, but the kind you can resharpen). For thanksgiving leftovers, the slicer is ideal. Just don't do anything silly like trying to cut through bones as they can get caught in the moving blade... a serious safety hazard.
Why only 4 stars? Well, this unit would rate 5 in my opinion if not for two issues. First, a safety concern: the unit has seperate on/off and thickness controls. So what? Well, that means that you can turn the unit off and still leave the blade in an exposed cutting position (and at thinner settings, this is almost imperceptable visually). This can lead to serious injury should someone try to clean the unit thinking that the blade is safely shielded. Not a good idea if you have children around, or even if you don't. A simple solution is just to get in the habit of turning the thickness to zero immediately before or after turning the slicer off.
My other issue is that the manual says that no part of the slicer is dishwasher safe. This is extremely annoying as there are several removable non-electronic parts that are difficult to clean by hand. It seems absurd that the heavy duty plastic and stainless steel that these parts are made of would not hold up to a household dishwasher.
Overall, I find this to be an excellent slicer and highly recommend for home use. Much better than the cheaper underpowered models that are nearly impossible to clean properly.
FYI, the EdgeCraft company which manufactures Chef's Choice does not sell replacement motor or gear parts. You must send it to them for repair. However, they don't make repair estimates. You must send the product to them and take your chances. Considering the price of this product, I feel totally ripped off. I will never buy another Chef's Choice product.
I read a review about a different slicer which recommends limiting use to under 10 minutes at a time. The tiny 100 watt (~1/8hp) motor in this slicer simply cannot tolerate extended use. It would probably work okay for slicing soft bread, but that's about it.
A few final notes:
* The Chef's Choice documentation clearly states the product has a 90 day limited warranty. Furthermore, you must pay all shipping charges to return the product and have it sent back to you. After any repair, the warranty is good for ONLY 90 DAYS AFTER THE INITIAL PURCHASE DATE, it is not extended after the repair.
* If you buy this product and the motor burns out on you, just remember you were warned.
When I first turned it on, I thought it would be too weak to slice the beef, but it was not. It was like a hot knife through butter. Changing/removing the blade was extremely simple.
The best part about this slicer is the ease of cleaning. I was able to thoroughly clean and sanitize all of it in less than 5 minutes.
The only thing I didn't like was the power button. It seemed as though it should have been designed different. There were no problems with the button, it just seemed awkward.
You will thoroughly love this machine. It is very simple to use. I didn't even need to read the instructions.

I owned this slicer for two years, and used it maybe twenty times at most--mainly for slicing ham. At first it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed it ran a bit slower with each use until it finally quit working entirely. I disassembled the slicer to see if it could be repaired. Inside I found a very small, burned-out electric motor. In my opinion, this motor is much too weak to last very long if used for slicing anything other than soft bread. The motor in my old Kitchen Aid blender is larger (and has lasted for many years under daily use.)FYI, the EdgeCraft company which manufactures Chef's Choice does not sell replacement motor or gear parts. If you like roast beef sandwiches from Arby's, this is EXACTLY what you are looking for. I bought this ham slicing blade [ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000X6EHK/qid=1115663701/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/002-0484266-3618452?v=glance&s=kitchen ] to go along with this slicer. The first thing I did was buy a sirloin tip roast at Sam's and slow roast it at 325 for 3 hours. I sliced the roast nice and thin, topped it with some horseradish sauce and -POOF-, I had the best roast beef sandwich I have ever had. I am so excited to cook my hams and turkeys now. When I first turned it on, I thought it would be too weak to slice the beef, but it was not. It was like a hot knife through butter. Honest reviews on Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer
I am a professional Prep Cook in my opinion this is a good place to start if you are looking for a home slicer. I bought this slicer for roasts and cheese. It saves me $4.00 a lb. for sliced beef alone. I find that it is easy to clean and store. For those of you that think this machine is not easy to clean, I use a huge deli meat slicer on average 2 days a week for 5-6 hour a day. The slicer that I use at work takes 30-45 mins. to clean and the parts are very large and hard to handle. The 630 is a breeze to clean. This is my first home slicer and I did a lot of home work before buying the Chef's Choice 630. I am very happy with this product.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Chef's Choice 630 International Gourmet Electric Food Slicer
Top quality sllicer. Cleans like a dream. Only problem I had was in slicing fresh bread, the slices tended to catch on the plastic blade protector. Other than that It did all things well.Monday, September 1, 2014
Proctor Silex 32oz Hot pot Review

I ordered this hot pot to replace the Proctor Silex K2070 1-Quart Automatic electric kettle I had bought a couple of months ago because I discovered that the kettle was not designed for liquids other than water, and I had expected to be able to reheat all sorts of beverages or soups and keep them warm. The little kettle is perfect -just as efficient as the automatic kettle, but without the limitations. I plugged it into a heavy duty grounded power strip with a illuminated on-off switch. That solves the problem with the lacking switch other reviewers noted. Obviously, it should not be left unattended, since there is no automatic shutoff.
Having used virtually every brand of Hot Pot manufactured in the past 20 years I never expected to encounter such a flawed product. The temp control malfunction was mentioned in numerous reviews.
Instead of temp setting dots which increase in size/diameter, from small (warm) to large (boil), there should be question marks. I cannot fathom how any manufacturer could put such a faulty design on the market. You MIGHT be able to tolerate this thing IF the only chore is boiling water, but as mentioned in one review you risk a scalding burn since it may erupt/bubble like a unpredictable volcano.
The video illustrates the unpredictable manner the temp control functions. The hot pot goes into FULL heating mode on the lowest setting. This is UNACCEPTABLE, particularly if you are attempting to warm up soup (or anything but water) since it will immediately scorch the contents. This item might be acceptable as a $1 garage sale purchase but certainly not $14. If the ONLY substance you intend to heat is water you could find it tolerable.
It holds a decent amount of water compared to other hot-pots I've had.
The worse thing about it is the LID. There is no easy way to remove it! The "recessed hole" provided does NOT work to remove the lid.
The only way I've found to get it off is to slide my fingernails between the lid and the body of the pot and pull up.
If I had a choice, I would have picked a different pot ! Its a big hassle to box it up and send it back...especially since I bought TWO. One for me and one for my husband.

I've been using this for a little over a week, and while it does rapidly bring water to a boil, the temperature control is useless. It boils water on even the lowest setting, which is not what I am looking for when making coffee with my Aeropress which calls for a temp between 175-185 degrees. If all you need to do is boil water cheaply and quickly, this would do the job, otherwise pass on this.Best Deals for Proctor Silex 32oz Hot pot

Honest reviews on Proctor Silex 32oz Hot pot
This robust hot pot concentrates on bringing water to a rolling boil with single-minded focus like a Zen master. Little bubbles sizzle at the wide bottom within seconds. A rolling boil surges two minutes twenty seconds later for a typical sixteen ounce load, half of the ample capacity. Never mind the absence of an on-off switch; fewer moving parts mean less cost and longer life; my unit has been used reliably many times a day for more than a year. Never mind the tight-fitting lid; stow the superfluous lid in a drawer; nothing splashes out due to the large capacity and an uncovered pot can be monitored better. While the pot concentrates on the water, you concentrate on the pot or else just listen to its progress. Never mind the short cord; the entire assembly including the cord can be lifted up and poured out safely without risk of tangling with anything else on a crowded counter. Never mind the initial indifference to temperature settings; this is not a timid servant but rather a bold agent asserting manly control. The hot pot seems to have built-in thermal overload protection which kicks in after reaching a boil if the dial is set on simmer; on the one occasion when I forgot the pot and came back after half an hour, it had not boiled dry. Instead, it recovered fully without permanent damage. I have experimented with boiling Ramen noodles in it or soup or coffee grounds or tea leaves with success but prefer to reserve it for water only to keep it clean even though it is easy to rinse out. This hot pot is better than a microwave for boiling water for more flavorful drinks because a microwave does not raise all of the water to a high uniform temperature.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Proctor Silex 32oz Hot pot

I am building my cocktail bar and I researched muddlers before I bought this one. the handle is ergonomic and the plastic portion with the teeth does a great job on fruit and herbal leaves. I noticed a difference in flavors when I made a basil-infused champagne cocktail that I had made in the past with a different instrument.
Really mashed the the fresh mint for mojitos
the handle is a nice length too. works well with taller glasses.

This device might just be the best portable thermometer ever. It's small and pocketable and will tell you the temperature of almost any surface in just one second. No need to reach equilibrium temperature.
Go outside and point at a wall that's been in the shade or in the sun and you have the range at that moment. Pointing it a large wall from across the street gives you a quick average. Point it a surface up close and you can actually do a pretty good temperature mapping , like what is the hot or cold spot on your computer, air conditioner, etc. Don't point it at the sky unless you want to know that it's really, really cold up there. :-)
I take it with me everywhere.
Word of warning the item is no bigger than a minute, but the shipping costs for this item was over 30% of the total cost when I order it. It was worth the price of shipping to get the compact size for me, but not all may agree.

Buy True Induction Stainless Steel Multi-ply Clad Dishwasher Safe
This is the very best pot and sauté pan I have ever owned! I recently moved last year into a new home and the kitchen has a glass top stove. I was frustrated for months because my old copper bottom cookware would not cook properly on the glass top stove. The pan would rock after it heated up and it took almost a half hour just to boil water. My Corning Ware was not much better. The only pan I already had was my cast iron fry pan and it worked well for cooking eggs and frying things.
After much research and lots of comparisons, I chose the True Induction Stainless Steel Multi-ply Gourmet cookware. Yes, it is expensive but is worth every penny I spent on it and I will treasure it forever. I can boil water in no time and cook much faster and no longer hate my glass top stove. Aside from all that, the pots are shiney and beautiful.
