Bought two of these beauties, and couldn't be more pleased. I'm thinking about throwing away most of my other pots and pans. They seem to be well made, and are loaded with safety features: locking handle when under pressure, pressure relief valves, and a little window that the gasket covers which acts as a fail safe if the pressure gets too high. I think these are the greatest things since remote control for the TV! The kids say the pressure cookers make the best food they have ever had! I tell them it is really the cook. Forget the knife, roasts are so tender all you need is a fork. They work great on my indoor flat top electric range and my outdoor gas range. One negative they aren't supposed to be stored with the lid in place. Apparently it is not good for the gasket. This is probably true for all pressure cookers that have a gasket. Forget the cookers with gauges, the weight is worth its weight in gold well maybe silver. Enjoy!

Generally, this unit works. I'm no expert pressure cook, but in the few times I've used this I've enjoyed the results. The cooker is simple to use.

However, I have one problem. When the lid is locked, there's a pin that slides in the handle, pulling back a guard that lets a plunger pop up when under pressure. This plunger creates the seal needed to increase the pressure. This is a safety mechanism to make sure the lid is in the proper position.

However, the plunger never just pops into the opening and seals the pot because the guard never quite moves back all the way. Instead, I need to get a wire-like device to insert into the hole, and push the guard back so the plunger can pop up. It's not a big deal, but I shouldn't have to do this.

This pressure cooker is fine but is my first. There was pressure cooker information I was unaware of before making my purchase. The sad truth is that my #1 choice was about $200.00. Trying to be reasonable I bought this one instead along with a pressure cooker cookbook. It was in the cookbook that I learned that this "type" is the classic pressure cooker from days gone. The $200 cooker is one of the new generation cookers which are getting all they hype.

I had a few minor problems using this the first time but was able to figure out how to jiggle things around to get them to work properly. I will continue to use it as it works just fine but when it's time for a new one I'll go for a new generation cooker.

Note: This cooker does not come with an insert for steaming, etc. I had to roll up a "tube" of aluminum foil and shape it into a spiral to put in the bottom of the cooker with water. I set a stainless steel bowl on top of that aluminum foil tube/spiral, which worked fine. I probably could have cooked my steel cut oats directly in the cooker but I have an electric oven and no flame thrower, so it was all a bit of a first-time-user-fiasco...including the fact that everything takes about 20% longer cooking time when in high altitude!

Honest reviews on Vasconia 6 Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker

Heavy duty and quality built. We've only used this a couple of times (first time pressure cooker users!) but ran into no issues whatsoever. The instructions are very good and with the quality of this cooker we really had no worries what-so-ever about it.

Would highly recommend this over any of the cheaper cookers you see on black friday at kohls or jcpenney

I was given this set a year and a half ago and so far have had to send back three pieces because of the nonstick finish. I will say I like cooking with the anodized it heats faster and retains heat well so it is easier to cook with. But the nonstick finish they put on this cookware is terrible. It flakes off and scratches easily. I baby them, follow all directions, etc. only use silicone or wood utensils. In my opinion the surface should not scratch if you are using an approved utensil. Calphalon has been good about honoring their warranty and have replaced everything I sent back so far but I am getting tired of having to keep sending things back. As money permits I am gradually replacing mine with Le Creuset. I don't know if the higher end Calphalon is better, but I can't bring myself to spend the money on it with the experience I've had with this set.

I've had nothing but excellent results and experiences with this cookware. For the money, I think it's the best you can get. I may use silicone & wood utensils to cook with, and the blue scotchbrite pads to clean them, but I sure as heck don't baby them, and I don't put anything between them when storing. I honestly don't know what some of these other reviewers are talking about. I've had no difficulty cleaning around the rivets, either, and I don't make any superhuman efforts to do so. I've had this set (plus additional pieces in the Simply Calphalon line) for almost a year, use them everyday, and I love 'em to pieces.

*Update January 1, 2012: Still in use, still doing a great job. So much so, that I've added additional open-stock pieces. Love this stuff!

We have had these for about 5 months and already two of them are scratched. I completely agree with the review by M. Forrester. We have completely babied these and the surface just scratches and starts coming off. Hand wash only with mild detergent and soft nylon scrub. Only silicone utensils. They are stored by themselves and not nested; actually nothing in them at all. One of them scratched while I was washing it with a nylon scrub. While they do work great as far as cooking goes, I have no confidence they will last based on current experience. Do not bother buying these at all. What is the point of buying non-stick cookware if it does not last? What a waste.

Honest reviews on Simply Calphalon Nonstick 14 Piece Set

When my wife and I were married 10 years ago, we received a set of Calphalon pans that over the 10 years have stood up great to repeated washing and cooked some fantastic meals. So naturally when they began to deteriorate (almost 10 years to the month!) we decided to purchase this set. In comparing the two, the newest version feels cheap and lightweight compared our set from 10 years earlier. The pots and pans heat up VERY quickly due to their thin construction, and lose their heat just as quickly. I guess this has pros and cons, but we prefer a heavier pan that heats up slowly and retains its heat. The handles on our new set are too narrow to grip properly, and without two hands on the largest frying pan, it could easily twist in your hand and spill hot food or liquids on to you or your kitchen. Maybe the most disappointing issue is that the Teflon coating is already showing nicks after one month's use and not from using metal utensils either. We know to use plastic religiously with Teflon pans and wash with soft sponges. Too bad that Calphalon's quality seems to be slipping...they used to make great pans.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Simply Calphalon Nonstick 14 Piece Set

We have been using these approximately six months now, so I thought it was time for a review. I cook pretty much every day, so this set has received a lot of use. So far, it's holding up nicely. I did go and buy a few special silicone-coated utensils to use (silicone-coated whisk, silicone-tipped tongs, a silicone turner, and a silicone-coated ladle) for when I would really be "getting down in there" and scraping against the pan pretty hard. If I am just stirring some vegetables or something, I use a wooden or nylon utensils, no problems so far. The only pan that has shown any wear on the nonstick surface is the frying pan, which my husband uses pretty much every day to fry bacon and cook eggs, and I think he doesn't always use the silicone stuff but just grabs whatever is handy. We don't put them in the dishwasher, but it's honestly not that big of a deal...I rarely use more than two pots and pans at a time (occassionally three), and I would think unless you're a gourmet chef, you wouldn't, either. I have also put a couple of them in the oven, although not at 400 degrees yet, which is their top rating, but haven't had any issues with the handles bubbling or anything like that (which was my main concern). They hold heat very well, so when I first got them I had to adjust to cooking stuff on medium-high heat vs. high, which tended to make the pots too hot and burn stuff. All in all, we're satisfied. There are nicer pans out there, I'm sure, but they also cost $500 and up for a comparable set. I would recommend this set over a stainless steel set because you don't have to add fat to cook stuff with these, which is a major selling point for me. Just take care of them and they should last for many years!

A bird's beak knife it the absolute best way to peel any vegetable or fruit. And this one is the best one I have used to date. It is uber-sharp, and keeps its sharpness. It is light and easy to grip. The beak shape allows you to slide over the vegetable without digging into the "meat". Removing eyes from potatoes? Easy peasy. Can I say any more great things about this? If you haven't used a bird's beak shaped peeling knife before you don't know what you are missing. If you have you should upgrade to this one. It is one of the most used knives in my set.

Makes me want to tourne again, lol! Not really, but it's a great little peeler. Very sharp and fits comfortably in my hand.

Honest reviews on Wusthof Grand Prix II 2-3/4-Inch Peeling Knife

with my henckels cermax they just scream quality so loud you want to fall down and cry yourself to comfort. with this wusthof it's like meh whatever ! the quality of this knife is like a screwdriver you buy from home depot yeah it does the job, but nothing to get excited about.

its comfortable. it does a good job peeling apples. i use it every day. i have no complaints with it regarding functionality.

but bragging rights ? well it IS a cool knife but only because of the cool shape. the quality though is average and that is obvious to the naked eye. i have a 8" chef from the same Grand Prix II line of wusthof and it has the same uninspiring average quality. My henckels twin four star II Chef has double the quality ( in terms of fit and finish ) and also cuts better due to having a thinner blade than the Grand Prix II Chef. but ok this is not a Chef's knife but i was making a point about fit and finish on the whole line did i mention it is average at best? on the Henckels Twin Four Star it is good, but i felt the Twin Four Star II handle shape was wrong for a paring knife.

as for my Henckels Cermax well just wow they are so in your face awesome that i never use them at all. i just know in my heart i am not worthy so i don't touch them. to use a Cermax knife to make dinner is like using a Hasselblad camera as a hammer ( well, maybe not quite hehe ). besides, i don't think that line has a bird's beak paring knife anyway.

but yeah i hope you get my drift here. get this knife if you want to peel some apples. if you want to make a present to that special somebody get a Shun or something. a Shun will cost more, it will probably work the same, and probably end up chipping the blade eventually, but at least it will be eye candy unlike this uninspiring blob of polymer goo with a blade stuck in it LOL

I've had this wok for many years and it's as excellent now as it was when I got it. Like any pan with thick walls, it takes longer to heat up but maintains a constant heat better. My experience with this led me to purchase two Swiss Diamond saute pans, which are also excellent.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

This is a great product. It cooks evenly, food doesn't stick and it's very easy to clean. The heavy, flat bottom of the wok is ideally suited for our electric stove top. Highly recommended.

Best Deals for Swiss Diamond Nonstick Wok with Lid - 11"

I wrote the Swiss Diamond company and asked for an explanation of what the nano-composite material was made of.

After a week or so, I received a polite reply from Allan Wolk, an employee in the U.S. His email informed me that, "Our patented nonstick surface uses a nano-composite of real diamond crystals and PTFE; it is applied using a computer controlled plasma gun at very high temperatures."

Naturally, my attention was immediately drawn to the PTFE. The acronym sounded familiar. What was PTFE?

A quick search of Wikipedia provided the answer: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTFE)

As Wikipedia explains:

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluoropolymer discovered by Roy J. Plunkett (1910-1994) of DuPont in 1938. It was introduced as a commercial product in 1946 and is generally known to the public by DuPont's brand name Teflon®.

Huh? Teflon? Wait a minute. Didn't the Swiss Diamond website just claim that the product contained no Teflon?

If you look back at the Swiss Diamond website screen capture, the careful wording of their answer now becomes clear. It states, "The Swiss Diamond coating does not contain any Teflon taking into consideration that "Teflon" is a trade mark, made and owned by DUPONT."

So the pans don't contain Teflon, they just contain the chemical called Teflon. It's like saying a nuclear warhead doesn't contain any plutonium, it only contains nuclear fissionable material.

For the manufacturer to insist the Swiss Diamond pans contain no Teflon whatsoever when it is made primarily from polytetrafluoroethylene, the chemical widely known as Teflon, is extremely deceptive. In fact, the intent of the Swiss Diamond company seems to be to deceive consumers by omission of the facts. The FAQ document on the Swiss Diamond website, for example, does not bother to say something like, "But our pans do contain PTFE, the chemical known as Teflon." It simply insists they contain no Teflon and moves on to the next question.

It seems that Swiss Diamond goes out of its way to give the impression that this product is free of Teflon chemicals and is surfaced primarily with diamonds. That's the impression I got, anyway, and I read the promotional materials several times before purchasing the pan.

Consumers have been hoodwinked!!!!!!!

In the year I have had this pot I have made some great stews and pot roasts. The capacity is ample to serve 2-4 people. It performs as a good heavy dutch oven should. The Stainless handles add a touch of class to the pot. It has retained it's seasoning without having to re-do.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I'll admit, this is the first dutch oven I have owned/used. But I'm very pleased with it!

The preseasoned surface is better than expected. Cooked foods come off easily; though a deglazing helps greatly. The handles really do stay cool when cooking on the stove top. It is somewhat heavy. Though it reeks of quality and I expect it to last a lifetime.

Would recommend! :)

Best Deals for Lodge Signature SS10D Dutch Oven, Black, 4.5-Quart

I have been using Lodge cast iron for years and love the even heating and chemical free non stick surface. Also made in USA. Care is easy and seasoning isn't a big deal. However, I recently installed an induction cooktop and was concerned about scratching. The enameled cast irons do not scratch but to me the enameled/coated insides defeat one of the benefits of cast iron.

I went to Lodge's web site to request they make an induction friendly set with natural cast iron insides and found they already did: the signature series!

I found the pan to be the same great quality of the other lodge pans. The seasoned surface works well but it will need some additional seasoning to get to the same level of my older pans.

The sleek new handles are sharp looking but will get hot with prolonged cooking (ie stovetop soup making). I don't see this as an issue but I also didn't have any issue with the other pans. Just use a potholder.

If you love cast iron and have induction, this pan is for you.

Honest reviews on Lodge Signature SS10D Dutch Oven, Black, 4.5-Quart

We bought this to add to our collection of the Signature Series cast iron pots. It comes preseasoned which is a real plus. The pot is every thing you would want in a very versitile dutch oven. After a few uses the insides become better than teflon and you don't have to worry about the finish coming off.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lodge Signature SS10D Dutch Oven, Black, 4.5-Quart

Could not be more pleased with this product. The claim to be "pre-seasoned" is not completely true in my mind. It does have a surface ready to cook, but it will take use and care to develop a true hard carbon non stick seasoned characteristic... but it will and it will become something my kids will fight over when I am gone.

I have this set for my single apartment, I love cooking a lot and I use them daily. T-fal quality don't need any words.

Mix of Stainless Steel pots and Non-stick pans is a great idea. I don't need non-stick pots, or stainless steel pans and this is the set I just wanted.

5.5 Qt Dutch Oven is pretty large if you are single and you don't cook for a family. But if you cook in large sizes for the whole weeks meal like me, it is very useful.

Various sizes of sauce pots are very useful for many jobs. If you need to boil some pasta or veggies for a single meal smallest one is enough. Or you can use larger ones for any other cooking.

Non-stick pans with thermo-spot are great. Set has one small and one considerably large pans. I usually use the smallest one for scrambled eggs, or making a burger, or cooking some chicken. You can use the saucepot lids to cover it. It wont fit perfectly but it will do the job. However there is no lid, for the largest pan, which is bad I think. But I get used to it.

Interior for the pans are non-stick and they are stainless steel on outside. Pots are all stainless steel.

Handles are pretty cheap, they are soft plastic, but I didn't burned my hands so far. They will block the heat, however handles on lids are not that good, and if you dont hold them properly, you might get some burns.

They come with a slotted spatula, and huge cooking spoon, they are stainless steel but pretty big ones.

Bottom paddings are good, they are not cheaply made.

When compared to cheap non-stick ones this set might be expensive, but they are very useful.

This is the best set I have ever had...and certainly not close to the most expensive! It really is like the cookware designer sat down with me and asked me what features I would like. Stainless steel pots, nice stainless steel/non-stick pans, glass lids, cool to touch silicone covered handles, large easy to handle cool to touch silicone covered lid handles. I really couldn't ask for more...super happy with this purchase. I would highly recommend :)

Very nice steamer I use it a lot for vegetables like asparagus. One thing I was worried about was whether it would fit in my pots properly, but the graduated ridges work fine with two of my pots. The fact that this one comes with a glass top make it worth the extra money. The only negative is that the handles can get hot, so be careful.

Inner diameter at the top 8in; depth 4 in. Tapers slightly towards the bottom.

What it fits: [From the box] fits Calphalon Professional Hard-Anodized, Calphalon Commercial Nonstick and Calphalon Professional Nonstick; fits 2.5,3.5 and 4.5 qt. sauce pans & sauce pots

I found it also fits 2.5 and 4.5 qt. pots from Calphalon Tri-Ply set Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless-Steel 13-Piece Cookware Set.

It is a bit on a smaller side. Large lobster will not fit whole, you'd have to break it up.

Best Deals for Calphalon Accessories Universal Steamer Insert

Unfortunately, despite this being a "universal" calphalon steamer, it does not fit their newest line the "Unison" nonstick cookware set(Calphalon Unison Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set). Perhaps buying in store it lists on the box all the sets it does fit, but I did not see the info before registering for it online. The same applies to the double boiler. Just a head's up! Overall, though, the quality seems good, I wish it would fit!

Honest reviews on Calphalon Accessories Universal Steamer Insert

Great product. I use this all year for steamed veggies, holds 6 ears of corn, or for steamed clams. Fits almost any of my pans, but I usually use it with the 2 or 3 qt saucepot.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Calphalon Accessories Universal Steamer Insert

I searched online for days, as well as called Calphalon in an attempt to find a reasonably priced and sized steamer from my recently purchased Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 13 piece set. Everything I read and heard directly from Calphalon indicated that I was out of luck. As it happened, I was in a Bed Bath & Beyond looking for something else, when I decided to take a detour into the cookware area to see what I could find. They had this steamer for a higher price, and also happened to sell the 13 piece cookware set I had purchased. So, I grabbed the steamer and took it over to the cookware on display. Lo and behold, it fits perfectly on the 1.5qt sauce pan. So, I came home, and ordered it from Amazon.

The bottom of the steamer is graduated, and the smallest step fits exactly right. No wobble. It does not match exactly. The lid and steamer handles do not match the Contemporary line, and the steamer is a polished single wall stainless as opposed to the Contemporary being a brushed stainless. But I care less about the form than about the function. Because the steamer rests in the pot at its smallest point, it does appear a little odd on the pot, since it is wider. I added pictures to illustrate my point. For those with the same 13 piece Contemporary Stainless set, the steamer appears as though it should fit the 2.5qt Sauce Pan, but it sits just a little too low and loosely, and tends to wobble. Not a good fit. It looks better on the 2.5qt because they are a similar diameter, but it just doesn't quite work.

Regarding the steamer itself, it is well made. It is a stainless steamer with a glass lid that fits very snugly. It is of sturdy and fairly heavy grade steel, and I don't see any reason to believe it will not last a long time.

If you have been looking for something to use with your Calphalon Contemporary Stainless as I was, you will find this to be a good fit and I recommend it.
