After reviewing many options, I decided on this model because it has the weighted pressure control rather than the pressure gauge, which seemed to have a higher incidence of issues and failures.

The 22 Qt. comes with complete canning instructions, but the recipes are for "pressure cooking" rather than being "canning recipes. There are a number of great books out there for good recipes, including the one I use for all my canning Ball Blue Book of Preserving

I am impressed by both the "small footprint" of the base of this cooker as well as the numerous safety systems in place to prevent problems, an issue which several elderly friends who used some of the older pressure cookers assured me was VERY important some carrying scars to prove it.

In addition to the vent tube, the safety systems include safety locks, an overpressure plug, an over pressure window (which blows the gasket and allows steam to escape in case of the vent & plug being blocked. There is a spring safety device that prevents the pressure from building unless the lid is correctly placed on the cooker.

The 22 Qt comes with two cooking racks to allow jars to be stacked. Since there is some question concerning quantities, I obtained this information directly from the manufacturers guidelines for BOTH the 12 & 22 Quart, in case you are trying to decide:

Mirro 12qt. Pressure Cooker/Canner, Aluminum 12 qt holds 10 half-pints, 8 reg pints, 7 wide mouth pints, 5 quarts.

The product I ordered on this page the Mirro 22 qt holds 30 half-pints, 16 reg pints, 14 wide mouth pints, and 5 quarts. (The description on Amazon is incorrect on this for the quarts)

You will notice that both the 22 quart holds double of everything except the quarts. This is because of the stacking capability in the 22 quart. Both are identical in width, the major difference is in height. If you are only interested in how many quarts it holds, the smaller canner will hold the same number as the larger one. If I had been certain of the quantities it held, I would likely have chosen the smaller one, but will take advantage of this one since I have it.

Hope this answers some questions for you canners looking for your first pressure canner and who are unsure about the sizes!

I know about canners. I can A LOT, and run two canners at one time. It is really getting hard to find a canner like this with a "jiggler" on top rather than a pressure gauge. I cannot stress enough that a weight system like this is just SO MUCH BETTER than a gauge if you are doing any volume of canning. If you are canning meats, you need to monitor your canner for 90 minutes, and if you have to babysit a gauge, you will get sick of it really fast. With a jiggler like this canner has, you can just listen, and know the pressure is correct. As long as the weight on top is just gently jiggling, everything is a.o.k. and you can read, or go the the restroom, or whatever you need to do. Plus, as years go by, I find it really hard to trust a gauge. You know the weight on this one will stay constant. I have one of this model of canner, and I'm buying another one today, to replace a perfectly good machine with a gauge.

OK. I read several other reviews AFTER reading the instruction manual but BEFORE using the canner. I thought, "Come on people! How hard can it be?" Then I used the canner and momentarily feared for my life!

The directions clearly state that you should put your canning jars in, seal the lid, put your burner on high to heat the cooker WITHOUT the weight, and wait for steam to come out the pressure vent tube. Once steam comes out of the vent tube, you should set a timer for 10 minutes to allow the cooker to come up to pressure before applying the weight. Once the the weight has been added, you should reduce heat until the weight jiggles. Easy, right? Keep in mind that the directions are also very clear that if you see the red reusable overpressure plug pop or steam come out of the safety window, you should protect your face, turn off the heat, and allow the cooker to cool.

So, imagine my surprise when while bringing the cooker up to pressure, steam started to spill out from around the handle and a red button on the handle popped. I hit the deck and slunk toward my cooker like I was entering enemy territory. With a racing heart (this is the fearing for my life part) I quickly turned down the heat. I readjusted the gasket and tried again only to have the same thing happen. I was about to take the stupid thing back until I did an internet search and found that the button on the handle is the PRESSURE MONITORING GAGE. It pops up when the cooker is up to pressure! The overpressure plug is on the lid. The pressure monitoring button is called out on the box but IT IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE DIRECTIONS. After I acquired this jewel of information, the thing was a breeze to use. You don't even have to worry about the jiggling (which I also found out from my internet search is more a hissing), because as long as the pressure button is up, you are good to go! Another thing the directions do not tell you is how much water to add. I have the book "Preserving the Harvest" and it states to add 2-3 inches. So, after a little trial and error, I have found the cooker to be extremely reliable and easy to use. The directions? Not so much!

Hopefully, this little bit of information about the pressure monitoring button will spare someone else the terror of thinking their kitchen is going to be blown to pieces:)

Honest reviews on Mirro Polished Aluminum Dishwasher Safe Pressure Cooker Cookware

After two months of searching for the perfect canner and stewing over the decision of size and type, I finally settled on the 22 qt Mirro. There were a couple of reasons I chose this model. First, there seems to be a lot of debate over the perks of a pressure guage vs the weighted toggle. I found that most people considered the pressure gauge to be some what unreliable. More important, I live in a very rural area where I can't take the guage to the county to have it tested every year as recommended. I wanted to can veggies and tuna, so I wanted something reliable from year to year. Second, Tuna has to be processed for 90 minutes and I didn't want to have to stare at a pressure guage the entire time to monitor the pressure. I like being able to clean the kitchen, or run to the bathroom quickly with out the overwhelming fear that the canner will explode without my ever present eye. Third, I wanted a canner that had some back up pressure releases. I read a few accounts of pressure cookers blowing up in people's faces, and I would rather not mess with explosions in my house.

This pot does this and MORE!! I have canned a couple batches of peaches and apricots. The apricots I cold packed and didn't like the results, the fruit floated to the top. The peaches I hot packed and they came out better than I could have dreamed. During the end of the Razor Clam season, we collected several pounds of clams and canned several. They came out GREAT! Since then, we have also canned tuna. I have to say, it is a bit loud to can the tuna, but our jars were pretty and the tuna was fantastic.

One batch of tuna had a problem. My boyfriend was on his first solo canning experience after helping me several times. Once the canner was up to pressure and toggling, he did not turn down the stove. The burner was too hot and blew out all the water. We both noticed a different sound from the toggle. We turned the burner off and gently moved the canner to the center of the stove off the burner. None of the cans were broken because we were being vigilant.

So here is what impresses me. There are not just two, but three safety mechanisms on the pot. Two on the top and a side valve that actually releases the gasket at the lid. I don't consider this pot exceptionally heavy when full. After hearing stories of how heavy a full 22 qt pressure canner can be, I was very worried. I was able to move this pot without huge effort. I'm not saying that it is light as a feather, but I felt comfortable moving it. This canner has the weighted toggle and comes with 3 weights (5, 10, and 15). This allows me to use the same canner for fruits and vegetables while also allowing me to can meats. What more? When you move up in elevation, you have to pressure cook at a higher pressure. All three of these weights cover your base from sea level to 5000 feet.

What I would like to see? I had to rely on the internet to describe how to process the foods I wanted to can. The instruction book is great on how to use the canner, but it does not describe processing times, and is skimpy on the info as to how much water to add to the canner. Also, I am canning tuna and clams (and can't use a quart or even a pint all at once), and my loads are pretty small because you need to put a rack to seperate the cans. This package comes with 2 racks. I have found parts and can buy additional racks for 11-15 dollars. I bought mine from Crazydavestoolshed. It took far longer to arrive than I had hoped (2.5 weeks from the time I ordered it). It was due on July 3 and didn't come until July 7. I am sure the holiday played into it a bit, but shipping for me was nearly 17 dollars and I expected it on time for the cost of shipping.

Honestly, I can't imagine using another type of canner. This one is great, particularly for a novice that is concerned with safety.

I use this canner approximately twice a month. I bought it about 6 months ago and it is a wonderful product. It's nice that there are no moving parts to replace. I don't need to worry about the dial guage being calibrated. The canner comes with an EXCELLENT recipe book! The shrimp creole and beef stroganoff are absolutely delicious and easy to make. My husband was really impressed.

I highly recommend this canner, along with the 12-quart from the same company. They are both excellent and should last a lifetime. This canner is an excellent value as well.

The skillet cooks well, but the cool orange handle is heavier than the base of the skillet/pan part, and it tips over while on the stove unless you have some heavy food in it. You have to hold the handle while cooking, sometimes, or the pan will tip to the heavy side, like a see-saw. So far this is the only drawback, though!

I have to disagree with the other reviewer. My Rachael Ray skillet is perfectly well-balanced both when empty and when cooking. Very good value for money!

Easy Tip over/handle is too heavy for this light pan/be careful how you clean it, do not use over high heat, over time surface holds burnt residue along edges.

This is a great little pan. After purchasing and loving the 12" skillet I decided to puchase the 8"...it comes in handy for making that 1 grilled cheese sandwich or couple of hot dogs for the kids. The non-stick coating is amazing...quick clean up. The Stainless Steel style looks great with my other cookware and the pan is lightweight-easy to handle. Very happy with my purchase.

I gave this as a gift -not only does she love it, she's told us that several times! It's beautifully weighted (all of it remains on the eye, unlike some small skillets where the end opposite the handle "pops up" while you're trying to cook on it), and the surface inside allows for a great end result. Highly recommended and a great price.

I wanted a very large pot to make batches of homemade soup for freezing and for cooking dozens of ears of corn at the summer cookouts. This pot suits my purpose. It is a beautiful, heavy duty stainless steel. It may be a little bit pricey especially since you have to purchase the lid seperately, but this pot gets an A+ for quality.

I was really just looking for a non-stick pan and didn't expect much more than that. But this pan makes cooking faster, easier, and possibly taste better. You really need little oil or butter to cook with, so it could make food healthier too. Great pan.

I've owned the 12" pan for well over a year. Initially, I liked it very much, and it sat perfectly flat on my glass-top stove. Since then, the bottom has warped, although the pan has never been abused and gets only light-to-moderate use. That probably happened because the metal is quite thin, which makes for a lightweight pan, but also for one that will deform through use. Had I posted a review shortly after I purchased the pan, I would have given it the four or five stars that the majority of others here gave it. As things stand now, I award it two stars instead of one only because its non-stick qualities are good and have held up well.

It is not recommended for the dishwasher but it is a true non-stick pan and distributes the heat evenly in the pan itself. Excellent quality.

I really wish that people would not leave comments on cookware that they have had for less than a year. Of course when it's new, it's great. However, please note that the reviewers who have had theirs for more than a year are telling you it DOES scratch easily. This is a very expensive set for nonstick. I took very good care of mine because it was so expensive, I always handwashed my cookware and did not abuse it. But it still scratched after 3 months. Fortunately the company that I bought it from stood behind it and took it back, because Swiss Diamond's warranty is awful! Look at some of these reviews and you'll see that people who had to deal with the company are saying that Swiss Diamond keeps claiming "abuse". How convenient and shady of the company. The nonstick was great and it cooked nicely, but when mine scratched, I contacted the company and was given, in an email, "this warranty does not cover stains, discoloration, scratch marks, or dents". HUH??? What DOES it cover then? And once a pan is scratched it's ruined. So since it scratched so easily and the company does not stand behind their warranty, I decided to return the entire set rather than get stuck with a $500 set that will be just like any other nonstick set within a few years. Don't listen to reviewers who have only had theirs a short while look at the reviewers who have had theirs for awhile or have had to deal with the company. They are all saying the same thing it DOES scratch, get pits, and stains and the company does not stand behind it.

We spent a lot of money ($150) on the 12-inch sautee pan which is advertised as "virtally indestructable". We have been very careful with the pan. We don't use metal utensils, put it in the dishwasher, or use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers. The non-stick coating is pitting, flaking and coming off after only eight months.

The company told me that we could send it back (at our expense) and someone at the company would examine the pan and decide if they would repair the pan, give us a replacement or return the pan as is.

We are planning to return the pan, but we aren't too hopeful.

Having recently read quite a few reviews of other companies' non-stick cookware, it seems that this is a common problem. Caveat emptor!

I bought a Swiss Diamond Cookware Set about five years ago and some of the pans that I use daily are really starting to show "wear and tear." I contacted their Customer Service Department who seemed VERY interested in helping me decide whether some of the set needed replacement. I was asked to send pictures online and full documentation on when I bought them etc. etc. I responded immediately with what they asked for!

THEN, NO RESPONSE! I even sent an email to the person who originally contacted me...NO REPLY!

This cookware is VERY EXPENSIVE! I do NOT recommend it because NO ONE FROM THE COMPANY answered my questions regarding whether it was SAFE TO USE IN REGARD TO WEAR!

Honest reviews on Swiss Diamond 10 Piece Set: Ultimate Kitchen Kit

I've been bragging to everyone about how lovely this 8.5 qt. stock pot is because clean up is a cinch and the non-stick quality is superior. Recently, after cleaning the pan I noticed a scratch that revealed the silver-colored metal underneath the non-stick surface as well as several other aggravated areas on the rim. I couldn't imagine how that happened. After examining its glass lid, I noticed the metal band that goes around the circumference of it (and comes in contact with the pot's rim) joins together and creates an unconnected, albeit close, seam. When I touched it, it felt sharp. Ah-hah! This must be what caused the damage. It seemed logical to me. The representative from Swiss Diamond looked at it and claimed it was caused by a metal utensil being banged against the rim. User error. Needless to say I'm disappointed. I don't recall banging a metal utensil against the rim. It seems obvious to me that, as absurd as it may sound in theory, practically speaking, the pan damaged itself. I sure hope the damage doesn't spread. The other thing I've noticed is some of the non-stick surface on the bottom is pilling. I'm bummed out. I feel angry, but I can't fight "city hall". I just hope this isn't the beginning of further degradation of the pan I love so much.

I've been cooking for 50 years and have tried them all. This is the best line of cookware ever. It has all the right features: can be used in the oven, proper balance, excellent conductivity, totally flat bottoms, great non-stick (both inside and outside), the handles stay cool, just the right weight. However, don't believe the claim that you can use metal utensils. They can be scratched if you don't use wooden, silicone, or plastic utensils. Treat them with care and they'll be your favorite cookware.

The kettle worked fine for the first 2 weeks. Then corrosion began to appear around the spout. A week later, rust began appearing inside the kettle on the bottom plate which is supposed to be "stainless steel". We were very disappointed with this product.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I've used this about 15 times in the past week and so far so good.

The only gripes I have are

A)Cord could be longer.

B)It would be nice to have a fill line outside.

C)Boy does calcium build up fast in this thing I use only filtered water in this thing and it gets that cloudy calcium film after every use, but as I'm typing this it occurs to me that maybe it's because I leave leftover water in it. I'll stop doing that and see what happens.

*Just a little heads up don't let calcium build up or you'll never get rid of it. Also with anything stainless steel it would be a worth while investment to purchase some 'Barkeepers friend'. That stuff rocks!

Also I wish it boiled water a little bit hotter. Don't get me wrong it works fine for tea but I put honey in my tea and the water that comes out of this isn't quite hot enough to dissolve the honey in the water 100%, I'd say 85-90%. But I think it's a fair trade off for the speed and convenience.

The pluses are -

A)the water has very minimal contact with the plastic lid. The only part of the water that touches it is the moisture produced by the steam.

B)speed

C)small footprint

D)Color is cool

E)price under $20, no brainier, really. If it lasts a year great, if not oh well. But it seems better built then most appliances made today so I have no reason to suspect it won't last.

I just recently started drinking tea and as such this is my first electric tea kettle so I really have no point of reference other then stove top tea pots. When I first opened the box I was surprised how small it was. I guess I thought it would be fatter and taller. But looks can be a little deceiving, I guess, as this will easily heat enough water to fill three standard size travel mugs, but not anymore.

To sum it up I like it!

All The Best

I cooked 4 chicken breast in 6 min. They were wonderful. Then I put them in the Bosch Mixer and shredded them in about 20 seconds using the pulse switch. There is no guess work to the pressure regulator. User friendly locking lid. I am very happy with my purchase.

Honest reviews on Pressure Cooking System 7-Piece 8" Set

I'm quite upset that I wasted two very expensive free range chicken breasts in this pressure cooker. I followed the recipe (which came in the booklet with the cooker) to the T and kept wondering, "why isn't this coming to pressure?" I was googling that question when I started smelling burning. Opened the cooker to 1/2 cooked chicken and burned sauce. ALSO I bought from these folks the cookbook Pressure Perfect paid over 20 dollars for it and it came with a stamp on it that said "Compliments of Kuhn Rikon, Switzerland". So these folks took a freebie and charged me a lot for it when I could have bought it cheaper used on Amazon, or perhaps the manufacturer meant for it to come free with the cooker. Not a good experience.

And here is the response from the vendor buyer beware: we do not accept any returns of items that have been used and taken out of the box. if you have any questions concerning the item and how to use properly or any warrantee information, please contact the company lequip and they will take care of you and the warranty.

Wonderful chafing dish. Very easy to clean and looks nice. Holds full trays of food which is convenient when catering. The water tray is plenty deep for any catering tray I've put in it. Only complaint is that there is not a lot of room to relight fuel canisters once warming tray is inserted. This is common with all chafing dishes though.

My 17 month old toddler has used these on and off for about a month. They are a great size and easy for her to hold. The fork is just prong-y enough to stab pasta without being too sharp for learning purposes. However, about 25-40% of the time, she picks up her utensils with her left hand. The curve on the heads of these are specifically set for right-handed use. (Ok, it's adorable and somewhat hilarious to watch her try to use her left hand to scoop yogurt into her mouth with this spoon... but still... frustrating for her!) The plastic is firm and not adjustable. When she gets better at using utensils, I think these will be fine, but while she's still fiddling around and learning they're not ideal.

Pros:

Great quality

Carrying case (which is handy for all sorts of things, including take-and-toss silverware)

Good price/value

Dishwasher safe

Usable but not-scary fork!

Cons:

Really only good for right-handed use

When I opened the box that this cookware came in, I was very dissapointed. All of the pieces were so small. I had hoped to set up my girls playhouse table and kitchen like a real one, but none of the play food that I bought would really fit into the pots and pans. Had I known how small this cookware was, I would have just bought cheap plastic pots and pans that would atleast have held the pretend food. My girls(ages 2 and 4) don't seem to notice, but I was quite unhappy with the set. It is very durable, but not practical for pretending.

I bought this cookware set for my 3 year old for Christmas. I bought this set because of the diversity of the items offered and the price seemed reasonable. My intention was for my daughter to use this with her toy stove/oven. We bought several of the Melissa & Doug wooden food sets thinking she could use them with the cookware.

This cookware is unreasonably small. She can not fit any of her food into the pots and pans. Although the quality of most of the items were reasonable, the utensils are very flimsy (all but 2 of ours are already broken and we've had the cookware less than 2 months).

Since my daughter can not fit her play food in this cookware she rarely uses it. I ended up buying a set with fewer pieces (one pot, one pan, and 3 utensils) from Pottery Barn. The pieces were sized so that she could use it with her wooden food and the quality was excellent (although it was a bit pricey).

All told I would not recommend this product if you want your child to be able to put food into the pots and pans for 'cooking'.

This cookware is great. It is very well made, heavy gauge stainless steel. These are beautiful replica's of my own cookware, and meet all of our needs. My boys are ages 4 and 3 years old and love to cook with me and in their own kid-kitchen and in mine. I can teach them how, when, why to use the various pieces that fit perfectly in their curious and busy hands. Great buy. The potholder/apron/oven mit were not as well made, but very cute.

Honest reviews on All-Play Stainless Steel Set

This toy is a fabulous value if you want an all-inclusive cooking set without having to buy all the pieces separately. My only complaint is that the pots are a tiny bit small for a normal play-kitchen but since there are so many pieces, it's just as well because it would be hard to store it all otherwise. Anyway, this cooking set lets you mock play all of the steps of cooking including sifting flour (I don't even own a sifter!), washing in a strainer, cooking, and frying, and the little hanging rack for the utensils helps teach tidiness. The photo doesn't show it but there's even a matching apron-and the colors are gender neutral. The only missing items are measuring spoons/cups and a timer, and I recommend getting cheap grown-up versions rather than the ones geared for kids (or just letting her use your own). My daughter is 5, has been using this set for nearly 2 years, and still pulls it out at least weekly. I bought the Melissa and Doug wooden veggie chopping set to play with these and even though the sizes are all off, my daughter hasn't noticed and the two sets combined have provided hours and hours of fun.

I purchased this item to use on the turkey that I roasted for dinner, this past Thanksgiving. It's well designed, and sturdy enough. I used it on a 14 lb bird, and would not necessarily think that it would work for a very large turkey. But for this size, it made it very easy to lift the turkey out of the roasting pan, without a problem. The chrome finish is heavy, and the rack washed easily. Very satisfied.

I used this for a turkey weighing just under 14 lbs. It fit easily, and the rack could probably accomodate a 16 lb bird. Note: position/balance of the turkey on the rack is important -to prevent a hot bird from unintentionally slipping off the rack when lifing it. Do a "test-lift" BEFORE placing in the roaster and adjust the position as necessary.

I can't use this product because when I put the turkey on it, it won't fit in my oven. I would warn anyone to check the size of their oven before purchasing this item.I never thought my oven was too small before. I wish I could return it but I don't have the packaging.

Tried it on my Christmas turkey. Didn't loose any wings. For the first timme in years it wasn't such an ordeal to remove the bird from the deep roaster pan. Thasnk you whoever you are!
