The Shun knives, in my opinion, are as good as they come. I have been cooking professionally for 19 years now as a certified licensed working chef. I teach culinary school and the most asked questions I get are about knives and which ones to buy. Through out most of my career I've used Messermeister knives which were great and held up for many years, but like most German knives, they don't hold their edge. The first time I held a Shun knife was at a supply store. Once I held it in my hand I had to have it. I highly encourage my students and my colleagues to give Shun knives a try for I assure them that they won't be disappointed.

This knife is fantastic. It's not only beautiful but cuts like no other. I'm a huge Global knife fan but thought I would try the Shun just for comparison. It completely met and exceeded my expectations. It's very well balanced and fit nicely in my hand. I highly recommend this knife for anyone looking for a smaller utility knife with some style.

BOTTOM LINE

Shun Premier Knives are made with the same technique as traditional samurai swords. After months of moderate use on the toughest items, my Shun Premier knives haven't dulled, chipped, scratched, or otherwise marred their initial perfect finish. I know what I want daily in the kitchen and by my side in the Zombie apocalypse. However, consider looking for a better price elsewhere.

SHARPNESS AND STRENGTH

I have used other Shun Premier knives for cutting through the toughest things, like pineapple. The outside of a pineapple is as hard as wood, and my Santoku cuts through it with only gentle application of force no sawing required. After months of use on only the tough stuff (I use different knives for pairing, poultry etc), this knife still hasn't dulled noticeably. Notice, this knife is a little small for use on pineapple, but I mention the pineapple as an example of how sharp Shun knives are generally.

BEAUTY

This knife is a thing of beauty it has a beautiful wooden finish on the handle, and the knife has this pretty blotted ink look, referred to in the description as Damascus. I love to show off my $160 knife to all of my friends.

SHARPENING

Shun allows you to sharpen their knives easily by sending it into a discounted, professional service center for professional sharpening and restoration. The price is cheap (25% off of $3 per inch of sharpening). Just google "Shun Sharpening."

I won't risk sharpening my knife at home because I don't know how to properly use a whetstone. I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener for use on my cheaper knives, but the instructions on the Shun recommend you don't use that kind of sharpener, since this knife is sharpened to a different degree than European knives.

PRICE

Surprisingly, the price on Amazon is not the best price I've seen for the blade. You may want to check your local high-end home-goods or kitchen-goods store like Crate and Barrel. Still, I would consider ordering from Amazon, simply because shipping to my door is so convenient.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

I'm so impressed with my Shun Premier Line's ability to cut through poultry, ligaments and all, that I'm already planning on how to adapt my knife for the zombie apocalypse. Considering these things are made like samurai swords, I'm confident I'll be more well-equipped than my regular knife wielding buddies when we're out of bullets and the zombies are inevitably bearing down upon us.

This knife is my new best friend. After decades of cooking can dicing vegetables suddenly become fun? With this knife--YES, it cut through carrots and parsnips like butter. The short, round, small diameter handle fits my hand like no other knife I have ever used. I have now ordered the 81/2" chefs knife. I have both a Wusthof and Henckles slicing knife which are both pretty much useless so they will soon be getting the axe.

I have had one from thermos brand so was hesitating to buy this one. It perfectly works well. My tea stays hot for upto 9 hours. Haven't used beyond that time so maybe it works for 12 hours as the label says. Pouring is very easy and safe as it doesn't let spill.

Update: 05/24/2012

After using it for almost an year, it started acting weird. When I would wash it after using it for tea, dirty water would keep coming no matter how much I would rinse it. It was driving me nuts. Eventually I discovered that the content was leaking into the vaccum space. I realized there was corrosion in the bottom which I had been thinking was dried stains. Thats why the trapped left over tea would leak back to contaminate the rinsing water through the corrosive holes. Obviously its of no use anymore. Very disappointed.

For the first month or two we used it, and it was fine if we didn't need the water to stay warm long. Keep in mind it is not a thermos.

However, when we realized the inside had filled with corrosion we returned it and Amazon as always handled the return professionally. So if you want chemically enhanced lukewarm food or drink, this barely 'vacuum insulated bottle' that isn't a thermos is for you!

For a little over $10, when I bought it in June 2011, not bad value for what you get. It just recently developed a leak which I can only determine is due to the rubber gasket having gone past its useful life. Too bad you cannot just get a replacement gasket, because it does do a good job of keeping my coffee steaming hot till I'm ready for that second cup.

It was good for what I needed it for when I bought it, but I think I'll try a different model/manufacture this go around to see if I can't get a little more life out of the next one.

I really like this attachment and use it frequently. That said, I have some suggestions:

For users-

1. Use the KitchenAid mixing bowl to catch the juice, and place a large standard kitchen strainer across the bowl. This speeds things up a lot!

2. Rub some shortening on the aluminum shaft before inserting it into the brass sleeve. If you use your juicer a lot, this will greatly prolong its life.

For KitchenAid

1. The plastic piece that inserts into the mixer should be made out of metal, instead of plastic with a metal sleve. On mine the plastic is cracking away from the brass.

2. The aluminum shaft should be brass or steel. As it is, the bearing surface is a small area of aluminum that even when lubricated, is showing lots of wear.

Each week we buy a dozen oranges and a dozen grapefruits (organic if possible). This juicer attachment makes juicing them much faster. Then we freeze most of the juice and thaw it in the fridge for 24 hours before we drink it. It would be hard to go back to regular juice. We also have a dedicated juicer for carrots, apples and pears, but it isn't good for citrus. We store the juice in mason jars in the freezer.

Notes:

1. As in an earlier review, use the mixer bowl with a large strainer place across it instead of the strainer attachment which is pretty useless.

2. You don't need to seed the grapefruit using the big strainer.

3. Hold the fruit so that your hand is at the top (fingers facing upwards) and brace the top of the mixer with your other hand. This way the juice does not run down your arm.

I will repeat what everybody else says about the included strainer not being worth anything. It is small, easy to lose, ineffective, etc.

Otherwise this is a marvelous attachment for juicing all kinds of citrus fruits.

A note on technique. Many people attempt to juice fruit by simply pressing forward. This will miss a lot of juice. It is necessary after pressing forward to give a little squeeze so the sides get all juiced as well. Also, you will get less messy if you hold the fruit half by the top instead of the bottom, as the bottom is where the juice tends to come out.

A note on lemonade. The key is to mix the water and sugar together and boil them. This makes the sugar a super saturated solution instead of a suspension. The sugar doesn't settle. Add the lemon juice once the sugar solution (also called simple syrup) is cooled in the fridge.

I was very pleased with the way this juicer attachment made it very easy to juice 10 lbs. of lemons for my homemade lemonade. (OK, Vodka Lemonade.) However, I wish I had thought of using a different strainer because I found it necessary to clean out the included strainer every 4 lemon halves.

If you are looking for new uses for your Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, this is a pretty practical one. This attachment doesn't take up a lot of cabinet space like some others do.

After the first few pounds of lemons, I heard a squeaking noise from the attachment. The shorting trick helped lubricate it.

I investigate most new products before I purchase, using Amazon, Circuit City, etc. The reviews on this product were relatively useless. People seem to be getting a little critical. This juicer is a great product contrary to what the first few reviewers had to say. I had no juice dripping down my arm, I used only the strainer provided which worked very well for me, & if you merely place a glass measuring cup under the spout you are not only collecting the juice, but measuring as well, which you need to do anyways if using the juice for a recipe. The juicer also really gets absolutely every drop of juice from the citrus. I don't understand all the problems some people found with such a simple to use as well as great product. My only negative points are that it does become another item to find space for, & having to wash several parts, & the directions putting it together are foggy. However, a simple rinse does it, you can store it in a Ziploc, & fresh juice is so much more delicious whether you're using it for recipes, like me or are avid juice drinkers. The speed, ease, taste, & maximum amount of juice extracted from your citrus makes this a great product-----plus it's from KitchenAid. Don't let negative reviews steer you the wrong way, you will love this item.

I was apprehensive about purchasing this product because a couple of people said that the lid didn't fit...It fits fine. There is a trick to the lid and it explains why it is made this way, so that the lid doesn't come flying off when you tip it upside down. It isn't a type of lid that you just flop on top and tip over. It has a lip on each side of the lid and you must line those up with the side of the pot and almost twist the lid into locking/secure position. Anyone that says the lid doesn't fit on these reviews didn't read the instructions or they are completely clueless. As soon as I opened the package I saw those on each side and it took me 2 minutes how to figure out how the lid goes on. Easy Peasy.

The color is SO PRETTY too! Much nicer in person. I am very very happy with my purchase. I haven't used it yet. It's almost too pretty to put on the stove and use. But it is very lightweight and I'm sure it will be perfect.

This is a quality pot. It replaces our own, very similar one, which we had for over ten years...and which we compromised by not always using the proper teflon tools. . The lid did not open and close properly. it got stuck and the last thing I wanted to be doing is struggling with a pot of boiling hot water. The 2nd one I got had the same problem so it must be an issue from the manufacturer. Unfortunately this seems to be the only brand of pasta pot on the market. So i jut bought a new pot and kept my old strainer top that fits it.

I've had mine for several months now, and while I find it useful for doing what it's designed for, it's not a well-made item. The lid is difficult to lock on and get off, and the handle construction is shoddy. After only a few uses, the pressure necessary to unscrew the lid after boiling cut through the internal post, and the handle can't screw on tight enough to keep from spinning. I now have to put the lid on loosely or it won't come off using the handle alone. Quite a headache with a hot pot. The non-stick surface is also wearing off where the lid comes in contact with it. Not a great design.

When it is time to make a delicate sauce, this is the pan I use. I save this small pan for melting chocolate and cooking delicate sauces that normally require a double boiler. It has a heavy bottom for slow heat transfer and curved sides for whisking the contents.

I use heat in moderation and have never burned anything in my All-Clad pans.

This is a handy little pan, cooks well, easy to store, great size for quick small things and evaporates well for sauces. I use it frequently, but taking off 2 stars because the handle is too heavy for the pot which makes it tip over constantly. I suppose I could have taken off 1 star, but I'm trying to balance out the other reviews since no one else mentioned it and it really is a fairly annoying design mistake. Having said that, I'd buy it again, but just know what you're getting.

This a sexy little pan. The weight is impressive for such a small pan, evident of their 'Handcrafted in the USA' label. It seems All-Clad has always purchased steel from USA based companies and uses local manufacturing with the exception of very little outsourcing on 'non-bonded' items like utensils, etc.. So it is great to see a company still making the bulk of their products here!

We have a gas burning stove and this pan fits perfectly on the burner. I do, however, notice that when it is sitting on a flat surface and there is nothing in the pan, it can rock just slightly, so I am not sure how this would do on a flat surface stove. Other than that, it cooks very uniformly and feels great when holding it.

I can't say this is misrepresented. It does hold 10 fluid ounces at it's capacity. It will not hold 10 oz. with the pestle in it. I bought it for making pesto and it's not going to be big enough for that. It is pretty and for grinding spices it will be fine. I wish they would make a larger one and I would buy it.

I have two very large spice gardens and in fact, grow various spices under lights during the winter. What I do not grow, I buy, either fresh, or when appropriate, dry. This is the perfect mortar and pestle. As one reviewer pointed out, it does hold 10 oz. but wit the pestle in it; that simply is not true, so beware of this. For my purposes though, it works perfectly. It is heavy and can take a lot of bashing and crushing. It is extremely attractive (I chose the cobalt as it goes with my kitchen) and is quite easy to clean up. It may seem a bit pricy, but trust me, if you have ever used a cheap set, then you know that this one is worth ever cent you spend. If you are into fresh spices, and you really should be as they make all the difference in the world in your cooking, then it would be difficult to go wrong with this one.

I've owned this for about 6 months and use it mostly for making spice or herb rubs. The piece cleans easily and the flavors from one use don't linger for the next use.

Le Creuset PG4050-0470 10 ounces Mortar and Pestle Dijon. I really like this product and part of the reason is just snob appeal. Most mixed items that require a mortar and pestle in a recipe do not require a quantity as large as 10 ounces--usually just an ounce or two, so actually a much smaller mortar and pestle is quite adquate. BUT, I do like the roughness built into this product. It makes breaking items apart for mixing very easy. You can grind something into a very coarse, or a very fine mix depending upon what you need. Also, I am a nurse and sometimes a patient has pills that need to be ground as the patient cannot swallow a whole pill.This does the job perfectly. Rough or fine grinding of medications is easily available. Also I needed this color which is is a bit odd--not a bright, pure yellow, but a bit mustardy to go with my decor. This way I can justify the cost by putting it on display while it is not being used. It is not stuck away in a cabinet, but is on display with other pretty kitchen items to make the kitchen look used in wondrous ways. Any half way honed mortar and pestal can do the job, but this does several jobs and then becomes a decorating item. Just what the cook ordered.

I love these dishes. I am floored when people say it's "not really large enough for pasta"...how much pasta do you people eat??? These bowls are the perfect size, sort of like a lunch plate with sides. We use them for SO many things. Helpings of casserole, a piece of meat with a helping of veggies alongside, even apple dumplings and ice cream. I use them for scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and we really love using them for spaghetti because the sides lend you a hand when twirling the pasta on your fork...and the size is big enough for quite a large portion of pasta (you can always get seconds). Add to that the fact that they are simply beautiful...there's no going wrong with these!

Most of my cookware is either Calphalon (non-stick) or Cuisinart (stainless). A 10" skillet is my daily "go to" pan. I have larger and smaller but I really needed another 10" one for omelettes and the like. I was about to buy another Calphalon when I read a very positive review of the Pure Living pan on Tasting Table, saw that the price was right on Amazon, and ordered one. I absolutely love it! It is used at least once a day for sauteing fish, chicken or vegetables and is a dream for eggs. Classic French omelettes are easily folded and slide right out onto the plate.

In addition, cleanup couldn't be easier. Once it has cooled, I simply wipe it out with a paper towel, finish with a soapy sponge, and towel dry. It looks just as good as it did on day one.

I should point out that the Amazon description is misleading in two respects. It states: "Soft touch and ergonomic silicone riveted handle, sear and deglaze with ease, cook at high temperature (up to 750-degree f)." That 750 ºF rating is for the ceramic coating only, not the entire pan. WearEver's site explains that the product is "Oven safe to 350 ºF if handles have any silicone or phenolic parts." Amazon's description further states, "...safe for all cooking methods except induction." What WearEver says is "...safe for all cooking SURFACES(except induction)." The emphasis on "surfaces" is mine. All cooking "methods" would include broiler use for which it is not suitable because of the silicone handle.

Do those differences detract from the product in my view? No, not at all. For range top use it is the best non-stick pan I have ever used. The fact that it is a bargain, makes it even better.

I have delayed review to see how these would last and so far I believe it is about 6 months they are terrific. They are really easy to clean and as of yet I have not found anything that has ruined the cooking surface. With regular non stick there are many foods (honey or maple) ham, turkey etc that will RUIN there surfaces. To date this has not been the case. No sticky parts.

I prefer cast iron but if you want a good non stick that doesn't require weight lifting these rock!

I was told about ceramic frying pans by my friend, and was skeptical at first. "How can a ceramic pan be non-stick?" Did some research on the net and came across this pan, and decided to give it a try after reading some reviews.

My 10 year-old son loves making eggs in the morning, and he swears by this pan. It's also reasurring to know that this product is PTFE PFOA cadomium free, especially when you're feeding the food to your children.

This product does what it's supposed to do cook food without sticking to it, takes very little effort to clean and it actually looks nice. It is a LOT MORE AFFORDABLE than other leading non-stick pans like Scanpans, which often receive 'less than ideal' reviews over the company's customer service quality.

I'll be buying other products from WearEver to see whether they're as good as this one.

This skillet has given me pretty good performance. Nothing seems to stick, and what appears to stick really doesn't it just wipes clean, no problem. The ONLY problem that I can relate is that the bottom of the skillet warped a tad. Since every aluminum skillet I've ever had did this, I'm not too concerned about it, but I did knock it down to only 4 stars for it.

Followup: After a few months, the porcelain has worn out and the skillet is no longer 'non-stick', not to mention that it finally warped too much to use. Most things get 'sticky', and everything leaves a brown stain that required elbow grease to remove. Not good! I won't buy another one. I will drop my rating from 4 to 2 stars. I at least got a year from all my PTFE-coated skillets.

The first pan I recieved I had to return. I did not have to return it becuase of the manufacture, but because it received a dent in delivery. The pan was returned with no questions asked and I received a new one in the mail in 3 days. Very fast delivery! I love the color, not that that matters. I have done scrambled eggs and over medium eggs and the eggs did not stick, they slip and slide. I did spay a little olive oil on the pan with my pamper chef spayer. The pan says that it is dishwasher safe, but I have only rinsed it so far because everything has just slid right off. There were no funny smells, no staining after cooking. The bottom did not turn colors. I have a glass top electric stove and it is safe to cook with on it. So far this pan is waaaaay better than my teflon or cast iron pans!!!! It is deffinately worth the money!

This is one of the few Kitchen aid products I don't care for. I have another turner (I wish I knew the brand but it doesn't say) that is much more sturdy.

This isn't a horrible product, but not worth the price. It is kind of flimsy and is hard to flip pancakes with. The angle is also much more steep than I am used to, and I don't like it.

On the good side, it is easy to clean and dishwasher safe. But I wouldn't buy again.

This turner is very nice. It's a good weight and cleans very nicely. The only problem I find with it is that the handle is plenty wide. I have small hands so smaller handle would be nice.

My favorite spatula broke, so I looked for one at Amazon and this Kitchenaid seemed very nice and I felt like the brand itself was worth a try. It is a very nice spatula, sturdy but thin enough to flip eggs or burgers. This was my first Kitchenaid utensil but because of it I have ordered several others. I never really thought about there being a difference in utensils but this Kitchenaid is really very good quality.

The teapot looks very nice and I use it to boil water on a gas stove very often, without worrying about it breaking from the heat. The only problem that I have is that the lid can not be placed on top of it if the strainer is not inside.

it might be pyrex but it must be the thinnest i have ever seen, and its not marked pyrex. the stainless steel tea strainer began to slightly rust around the spot welds the first time we used it, so i believe it must be electro plated stainless, not solid. the product is smaller than i expected and the handle can get quite warm. i admit i should have looked around more at other products first because i believe i could have found a better product.

the strainer works perfect. It sits low enough and is easy to clean too. Durable too, you know its gonna last!!! I love that I can put in on a burner and not worry about it shattering (That happened to a cheap one I had a while back).

I researched each and every teapot on the internet for months till I found this Pyrex Brand. Thank You Pyrex for such a cute looking teapot which is functionally as well.

I wanted it for Christmas but my son ordered me the wrong one (Primula Brand). When that arrived, I knew right away something was wrong since I could hear cracked glass moving inside the box as I lifted it. There was NO packing material, hence it arrived with a broken lid and spout. What a dissapointment!

I finally ordered my Pyrex Glass Teapot and it arrived yesterday, very securely packed. The teapot looks so fabulous that I couldn't wait to use it right away.

-The strainer/infuser fits snugly in the teapot as does the lid.

The infuser is very easy to clean as is the teapot.

-The infuser goes all the way down so you can make one cup only (some other teapots have infusers which don't go all the way down so you have to make more than one cup).

-The fact that you have to have the infuser in the pot to place the lid, is not bothersome AT ALL

-It is NOT as fragile as portrayed in other reviews. As for the comments on breakage, I had a medium onion roll accidentally roll over the teapot while it was drying in the dish rack in the sink and NOTHING happened.

I pour water in the teapot and inserted the infuser and added Green tea leaves (Three Rivers) and a cinnamon stick. I put a wire grid I had over the gas stove and put my teapot over it making sure the flame only covered the bottom of the teapot. Being glass, the water heated very fast (so you save on energy bills) and I let it boil for a minute or so and turned the gas off and let my tea simmer. I added fresh lemon juice and organic sugar and it was the BEST cup of tea I have ever had:)). I then decided to add more water to the existing tea leaves and was so surprised that it tasted just as good as the first cup!.

Today, I added a cinnamon stick, a pod of cardamon and fennel seeds to the Green tea leaves and again made one cup but then I couldn't resist to have another cup so I added more water and brewed the same tea leaves and it tasted wonderful.

Before I had this teapot, I used the same blend of tea and herbs but the tea never tasted so good as it does when made in this pot. BUY IT, you won't be dissapointed!

I always drank my tea with milk before but this teapot brews the tea so well that I don't have the need to add any milk so I am now getting the full benefits of the antioxidants from the Green tea.

I have never given a review for anything before but I am so pleased with this purchase and so grateful to PYREX for coming out with this amazing beautiful cute pot.

I would highly recommend family and friends to BUY ONE. Thank you PYREX!

It inspires me to try different tea recipes.

Fast, simple, one pan cooking at its best is possible with this Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12-inch Everyday Pan. The nonstick interior is lightly textured to help properly sear meats, meaning you can think beyond skillet dinners-in-a-box or casseroles. To take the pan on a "test run", I preheated over medium-low heat on my gas stove top burner, lightly coated the interior with cooking oil spray and browned both sides of three chicken leg quarters within about 7 minutes, I then added a cup of water and chopped, fresh vegetables around the chicken legs, sprinkled on some seasonings, covered, reduced the heat to low and simmered everything for just under 20 minutes. The result? A delicious, healthy, quick and easy meal for my family at less than $3.00 total for all ingredients. I'll try to upload a picture.

Important information for anyone buying any kind of nonstick cookware, including Calphalon Unison (which is the very best by my experience), is to never have your stove top burner set higher than medium, always use wooden, plastic or nylon utinsels, and lightly oil the interior occasionally after washing. Although Unison cookware is supposed to be oven safe to 500 degrees, I wouldn't (personally) place it in an oven hotter than 400 degrees... I generally set my oven temperature at no higher than 375 for anything that isn't dedicated bakeware. With simple care, this Everyday Pan should last for years. I love that it's large enough to make a meal in one pan so cleanup isn't a chore after a meal.

Having tried many, many brands of regular and nonstick cookware over the years, Calphalon Unison pieces have proven to be the most durable and reliable with daily, heavy use. Yes, it's expensive, but so is replacing a less expensive, lower quality, much-used pan every two to five years. If you're able to pick up this brand at a reduced price you'll save even more money over time.

Pan was shipped promptly and was well packed. GREAT price. Calphalon says it can go in the dishwasher, but I haven't tried that yet. Not sure I want to chance dulling the outside finish. I like the TWO handles, as a 12" pan is two heavy for me to lift with one handle when it is full of food. I have never had a glass lid before. I liked being able to see in as the food cooked; but I don't like that glass can break. This finish is "sear" rather than regular non-stick, so it is supposed to be able to brown food before simmering. Haven't tried that yet, either.
