I have a need to measure 750 milliliters for my stainless soda siphon. My glass measuring cup large enough to hold that amount of water has a fairly large circumference that made eyeball measurement difficult. The oval shape of the Clipper and its slender profile meant more room between measurement marks making quite easy to fill to the correct line. I used it several times on the day I received it and have now dedicated this particular measuring cup to my beverage needs. If my wife needs to use it, I will buy her another one. Amazing how just the right tool takes the tedious out of task. If you needs are similar I highly recommend this measuring cup.

Buy Clipper 215-00040 4-Cup Measuring Cup
Good looking 4 cup measuring cup. Exactly as described and pictured. Easy to read measuring lines and looks to suit it's purpose. If using other than in the kitchen, not quite certain how durable it may be if you happen to drop on ceramic or cement floors. Nice silicone handle cover to boot. As long as your careful with handling, I'm certain it will hold up just fine. Description indicates freezer and dishwasher safe but, NON MICROWAVABLE(which isn't indicated). Then again, not quite certain if there may be a plastic measuring cup which would withstand a microwave(If intended for microwave use, a glass measuring cup would be a wiser investment). Measuring points appear to be accurate, if not, as close to accurate as possible. Only time will tell if the measuring points will rub off or not(after repeated washings). Nevertheless, I consider these minor details and not worth knocking off a star for. So, IMO this one gets 5 stars. Certainly well worth the price. It will suit my needs for both liquid and dry measure quite well. Would recommend!

This Breville is a workhorse! I bought Jenis Splendid Ice Cream at Home book after I realized that the traditional egg based recipes weren't cutting it for my taste(I strongly urge others to do the same if ice cream is your thing).
This machine replaces my hardly used Kitchen Aid ice cream maker (the kind you freeze the bowl prior). We just didn't get along too well. I also like to make a few batches at a time which is prohibited by a bowl that needs a recharge after every use.
I was surprised how quiet this machine is in use. The controls are well thought out and it is built to Breville industrial-style standards. I found the included spatula useless and instead opted for a silicone spatula for removing finished product from blades and bowl.
Advice to those buying this machine Shave off 30 minutes of churn time by first chilling the hot cream in a covered smaller metal bowl placed in an ice+water filled larger bowl for 30 minutes. This greatly reduces wear/tear on the compressor and other components. You can chill in the fridge for a couple of hours instead.
I am extremely impressed with this ice cream maker.
For comparision, I have owned a Cuisinart 2 Quart freezer-bowl type machine before Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker and recently purchased a new one to test along side the Breville Smart Scoop. After 30 days of testing, playing, eatting (and probably gaining 5 pounds), I found myself having to make a very tough decision...keep the Breville Smart Scoop OR Cuisinart ICE-30BC.
In the end, the Cuisinart ICE-30BC with 2 Quart capacity, simplistic design of the mixing blade, and ease of holding the canister while scooping ice cream into a bowl won. The Breville Smart Scoop 1.5 Quart canister is just too small (and too cold to hold) for me. In addition the Breville has a column in the middle of the canister that allows the motor to spin the blade. The Cuisinart has a perfectly unobstructed canister making cleaning and dispensing a lot easier. Another frustration of the 1.5 Quart capacity is when the machine has churned a lot of air into the mixture and it expands beyond the top of the canister... which has happened even using Breville's recipes with amounts specific to using the 1.5 Quart canister. While this can also happen with the Cuisinart, having a larger capacity canister helps reduce this. Of course, you will want to pour less mix into the Breville to eliminate this problem.
Granted, I would select the Breville any day if I were going to make batch after batch of frozen treats since the Breville actually maintains its temperature unlike the Cuisinart canister that slowly thaws and needs to be refreezed between uses.
I would be curious, however, to try the Cusinart ICE-100's specially designed gelato blade that incorporates less air compared to the single blade included with the Breville Smart Scoop.
I have reviewed several ice cream makers, always looking for the holy grail to find one of ease in making, but the golden nugget of taste. Nothing beats this. Nothing.
For many reasons.
First, even if you cook your ice cream base for a custard, this has a pre cooling stage to cool it down for you (don't use it otherwise if it's not warm or your ice cream will freeze too fast on the sides only and stop before it is supposed to.)
More importantly, this is the only one I have found that whips up ice cream just like commercial ice cream so that it does not become a brick once you put it in the freezer and want to eat some the next day. The air being whipped in is what makes grocery store ice cream so light and fluffy. Hard to get in most home ice cream makers. This does it.
But, better, you get the homemade taste with no effort. All you do is push a button--you don't need to pre-freeze a bowl or add ice or anything. You just push a button. It becomes the freezer and the stirrer and everything in between. You can even choose a setting for gelato, frozen yogurt, and how hard or soft you want your ice cream!
Even better, you don't have to be there when it's done. If you are having a dinner party and want to serve cobbler with homemade ice cream, just pour in your ingredients and get it going--no need to worry about when it finishes as it will keep it frozen and cold until you are ready for it!
Some tips: I stir in my mix-ins like oreos or chocolate after it is done so they don't get crushed in the whipping.
Don't use artificial vanilla. It has alcohol in it. While you can use alcohol FLAVORS, using real alcohol will prevent your ice cream from freezing properly.
Whisk your ice cream first if it contains eggs then pour in. You may wind up with frozen egg yolks otherwise.
My favorite ice cream book is Ben n Jerry's.
The more cream you use, the faster it will melt at room temp, but the creamier it will taste on your tongue (using whole cream rather than milk).
PRO:
It works, the controls are easy, it isn't overly noisy.
CON:
It is heavy and bulky lifting it out of a lower cupboard isn't something you do casually, some grab handles would have been nice.
Not a huge capacity. At 1.5 quart (1 liter) maximum, you're making two tubs of ben and jerrys, maximum.
The bucket is neither dishwasher safe, nor do they recommend you put it in the freezer, or use anything metal to scoop from it. So you need a chilled container ready to transfer the desert after it is done. Although it does have a keep cool option if you know it'll all be eaten. 1.5 quart is what you start with but by the time you're done transferring, you've lost a bit more.
I think they could have been a bit more generous with the recipe booklet, but no matter there is always the internets.
This is the first ice cream / sorbet / gelato maker I've used. The rotary dial selects at what consistency the churning will tend to stop, it offers Off, On, Pause (for mix-ins), and keep-cool. That's basically it.

I am a Breville fanatic and love this machine. Its sleek and elegant styling with abundant features is a true technical marvel. Why then is this machine soooo close to perfection yet only incorporates a 1.5 Quart capacity and not 2 Quarts. I realize this machine's closest competition by Cuisinart Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Maker is also a 1.5 Quart but this single detail ruined the experience for me....well...that and the mixing blade with its twist and turns that make getting the ice cream off that much harder. I purchased this item for making soap. It's the perfect size because it's not too big or too small. It's large enough that I don't have to worry about splashing my counter tops (or myself) with lye or oils. I also purchased an induction hot plate to use with this item, but I'm pleased that it can accommodate both my electric stove top and the induction top. The material is sturdy and well constructed. I received my item very quickly and I'm very pleased with this transaction.

Reviews of 8" (20cm) Fry pan with Non-stick German Weilburger Ceramic Coating
I use it every day. Heats evenly, does not scratch when used with a silicon spoon, cleans very easily (hand wash only). The lid is tight fitting, the vent hole is adequate. The surface of the pan has kept its luster so far. The only thing that is noticeable is that the white paint label on the lid has disappeared with hand washing. Makes it 'look' cheap, but it it is going to be a fine product, in my estimation. No more teflon pans for me!
I wanted this pan and am glad I got it. Thick blue ceramic lining is worth the extra cost for the safety aspect of making my
daily morning eggs.

I had been using this pan for a few months now. This one is great for a small meal. I think most restaurant use this 8" size to cook food for one person too. This cookware set is amazing good quality. The non-stick coating seems to hold up well in daily use and still retain it's non-stick function with no chip or no flaking off like Teflon. I had also bought a Le Creuset (French Made) at the same time. The Le Creuset is heavy and it became blacken and start to stick after a few months. The Healthy Legend is holding up well. I had put away my stainless steel set and my Teflon set to use this set most of the time. I heard stainless steel is not 100% stainless steel and has nickel in there. The German ceramic coating is the way to go.Monday, October 13, 2014
Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick Oven-to-Table Set Reviews
I have had this set about 6 months and I love it. I don't have to use any oil with anything and nothing sticks. I have had no warping problem at all as another review mentioned. I highly recommend this pan, the handles stay cool so it is very easy to use.
**EDIT**: After e-mailing Calphalon their customer service have offered to send me a paid shipping label so I may return the pan at no expense to me and they will send a new one. Hopefully the replacement pan will not be defective.
**EDIT**: After a 2 month wait, I received a replacement pan. The replacement pan was also defective and I have again contacted Calphalon customer service and am waiting to hear back from them. When I received the new pan I filled it with water and heated it over medium high heat. Sure enough the replacement is warp just as bad as the original.

I received this set as a gift. After using the pan a few times (actually, twice) it warped and is now unusable on my flat top cooking range. We're talking through NORMAL use too, I didn't rapidly heat cycle pan or do anything out of the ordinary. Brand new pan which is now useless. It does have a warrantee from Caphalon but it requires that it be shipped to them at my own cost. I would avoid this set and the lack of longevity of this product makes me worry about the other set of Calphalon cookware I received.**EDIT**: After e-mailing Calphalon their customer service have offered to send me a paid shipping label so I may return the pan at no expense to me and they will send a new one. I've had this pan for over two years now and it is still as sturdy and non-stick as new. It's a little larger than I thought it would be, but not unwieldy and it's nice that you can cook an entire meal in it without overcrowding. It looks like the Top Chef set is no longer available, but I'd still recommend the pan alone if you can find it.Honest reviews on Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick Oven-to-Table Set

I already owned a Calphalon nonstick skillet which I love because it's a convenient size and the handles never burn you, so it's easy to take from stove to table. I wanted another Calphalon pan for this reason primarily, and the packaged set was a great price on special (around $40--I see from the Amazon website that it's gone way up, however). The spoon and dishtowel included are of good quality. The cookbook is worthless, featuring tv chefs and idiotic recipes. (I donated it to a library booksale.) Nonetheless, at $40 this was an excellent deal; however at the usual Amazon price I'm not sure it's worth it to get some extras that would only cost a few dollars anyway.Thursday, October 2, 2014
Buy Victorio VKP1012 Hand Operated Grain Mill
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $89.94
Sale Price: $56.00

I bought this product so that I could grind small amounts of flour from less common whole grains for breadmaking and emergency preparedness purposes.
The grinder is very simple to put together and fairly easy to use. Be aware that you may have to tighten the clamp occasionally as you use the grinder, but it is not difficult to do. I wouldn't attempt to grind large amounts of flour at a time unless you want your arms to hurt, but it is perfect for grinding a few cups at a time for a recipeand kids love to help out!
Also, while the coarseness of the flour can be varied, but it will not produce a superfine (cake) flour.
Solid build 3/16" aluminum, single piece body nothing to break.
One moving part (grinding head), seems pretty strong
Easy to clean, seems rust-proof
Does not damage counter-tops (it's clamp-mount), due to a rubber pad and good pressure distribution.
Grinds predictably, not super-dust-like fine, but fine enough.
Can grind many things (nuts, seeds, etc) as longs as they are fairly small (see Cons)
looks nice
Thin enough to be stored in a kitchen drawer, fully assembled
Cons:
Manual (Requires effort) but that's understood.
Very slow with flax seeds (must be set to very coarse back nut off a lot), but does the job.
Large grains or nuts (eg almonds) need to be chopped first they simply don't fit through the teeth.
Not easily suited for use with a handheld drill (Yes I thought about making it electric for bigger jobs). Can probably be done but you'll need to clamp the square head (see photos) so a big chuck is needed you can't just use a socket wrench as you need to apply a pulling force to it... Can't fault it for this, it was hardly a design goal.
In short, it's worth it if you need 2 cups or less, infrequently. With hard grains I was able to do about 1 cup per 2 minutes of cranking, with millet and similar grains it is faster.
Finally, there is a certain pleasure in connecting with your food in a way an electric motor probably won't.
One last note: Although my flour from my electric grinder is a finer flour than I can get out of this grinder, this grinder still grinds flour fine enough for bread.
That being said, the Victorio mill is just OK in it's operation. It does what it says it will do. On the finest setting it mills fine-enough flour for my quick breads. It IS hard work, but I expected that anyway. I did not, however, expect to have to use a large spoon to continually push the wheat berries down into the grinding mechanism. I think the opening to the mechanism is too small. It is a REAL HASSLE whem dealing with dried corn. It does grind it well, but it's difficult getting the corn down into the grinding mechanism.
If you are looking to purchase a mill to "try out" fresh-milled grains, this will suit you just fine. I could possibly recommend it as a back-up in case of power outage, although there are much better models available; but as a primary means of obtaining fresh-milled grains, even with only occasional use, I cannot recommend it.
Plan A: I bought all the ingredients needed (several varieties of whole beans)put them in my food processor to make it quickly turn into flour (the instructions said it would only take 10 seconds). Twenty-five minutes of pulsing and not seeing any powdery flour only whole beans, I knew I had to do something else. So I tried to sprout the beans. After 3 days of rinsing beans, I created a loaf of Ezekial Bread that could easily hold a small yacht in place.
Plan B: Time to look for a flour/grain mill. I didn't want to spend a fortune so I looked at all the flour mills for under $100. I saw the Victorio Hand Crank Grain Mill, read the reviews, some favorable, some not and decided to give it a try. I LOVE IT! Yes, it's manual and it took me about 20 minutes to crank out 5 Cups of beautiful fine flour but I also got my exercise in so it was worth it.
Do I recommend this product? Absolutely! By the way, I did bake my bread and it smells heavenly! Also, it's small and stores so easily (the box is about as wide as one of my cookbooks).
Buy it, you won't be sorry.

I don't know about the other reviewers. I can get a cup of flour in a much shorter time that 10-15 minutes. ?? That being said it is a MANUAL grinder. I use my electric when I want a lot of flour. I basically got this one to crack grain for cereal, but then we found out my daughter has non-celiac gluten intolerance. This is great because I was able to take this apart and wash with soap and water and dry really well, so we are able to grind rice and other grains without it becoming contaminated with the wheat. I use my electric grinder to grind up my wheat and now this one for other flours. It is manual, so it is hard work if you are grinding up large amounts of anything. For that I recommend an electric model. But for small amounts or for a preparedness tool, this is a great grinder. One last note: Although my flour from my electric grinder is a finer flour than I can get out of this grinder, this grinder still grinds flour fine enough for bread.
Honest reviews on Victorio VKP1012 Hand Operated Grain Mill
I bought this grain mill in order to try fresh-milled grains, hoping to determine if I wanted to spend the money on a higher-priced impact mill. I figured at the very lest I would have an occasional-use appliance. To that end, my goal is accomplished. I have decided that there is no comparison between store-bought flour and fresh-milled. My baked goods are better than ever, with more flavor and (I assume) more nutrition. I will be purchasing a Nutrimill in the near future, and I now have a stand-by in case of an electrical outage. That being said, the Victorio mill is just OK in it's operation. Received two so far. Both were actually larger than stated plus broken due to poor packing. Failed to meet my expectations!Friday, August 22, 2014

I ordered two sets of these and they are absolutely beautiful. When I opened up the second box, however, there was one broken bowl. I called Amazon and they immediately took care of the problem. I have used these dishes now for more than 2 months and have not had a single breakage issue, and my family is not easy on dishes. The glazing on them is not only beautiful, but holds up in the microwave and dishwasher with no crazing or crackling (I've had more expensive dishes crackle before). The color is perfect for casual or more formal dining, and the pattern on the edge gives it a lace-like effect. I highly recommend these dishes.
glad I ordered them

I absolutely love this set. I enjoy the size and weight of the dishes as well as how durable they have been so far.Honest reviews on Paula Deen Signature Dinnerware Whitaker 16-Piece Dinnerware Set
We haven't eaten off these dishes yet, but they are beautiful and substantially made. The color is soft, and the raised design around the pieces is very pretty. They have a nice, heavy feel to them. The pieces are quite large because of the wide edges on the plates. I especially like the mugs instead of cups and saucers.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Paula Deen Signature Dinnerware Whitaker 16-Piece Dinnerware Set
I was pleasantly surprised they arrived quickly safely and are very nice dishes nice raised pattern but not over done looks French country. So pretty. If you are looking for small dinnerware this is not for you. The plates are large the bowls deep and a great size cup for my morning coffee.Thursday, August 21, 2014

I've had my eye on this little pot for months before finally deciding to purchase. It's definitely less practical than a 1qt or 1.5qt saucepan, as it is quite small. But I'm so glad I didI use it all the time for heating up soup or leftovers (great alternative to microwaving, and absolutely quicker!), boiling just one or two eggs, and making hot cocoa or heating milk before frothing for lattesI LOVE the pour spout and it makes all of these jobs so much easier. I prefer the stainless line from All-Clad, and at this point don't like to deviate in order to keep the look uniform. It retains a mirror finish if washed correctly and really maintains its shine. But for some reasons the other All-Clad lines do not include the pour spouts in their version of this pot anyway, and the pour spouts are arguably the best feature! Now that it's fall, i may also use it to mull some cider for 1-3 people, make gravy and other sauces, or a quick cranberry sauce. It frees up my larger saucepans for other parts of a meal and takes up very little space on my pot rack. Would definitely buy again!!
They arrive carefully packed in their own little soft bags. I felt like I had received a treasure.
I've been using these pans for about 3 months and I love them. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself, even if you decide to try just one pan. Well worth the investment.
When you buy All Clad, you are buying for life. Really!
All Clad pots and pans have a lifetime warranty. Cook with them once and you'll wonder why you used anything else.
Ina Garten said that she herself uses All Clad pots and pans and Wusthof knives. She noted they are expensive, but they really are a one-time purchase that lasts a lifetime. Even she suggested you can start small and add to your collection as your budget and needs allow. That's what I did and I have no regrets.
All Clad heats evenly, is very solidly constructed and remember... If you ever have a problem, if anything fails, All Clad replaces it for you, for free, no questions asked. Who wouldn't like that?
You cannot go wrong with an All Clad purchase. The stainless steel is dishwasher safe, cleans up easily and cooks like a dream. There is a reason this cookware is used in professional and high-end kitchens.
Don't buy the cheap stuff any longer... Make the investment in quality. You'll be glad you did!

Its All Clad, what else is there to say? These pans are wonderful to cook with. I learned about them when I took a cooking class at our local Chef School. If I had gas cooking I'd be in heaven, but I have electric coils so these work just fine. I love cooking with them and they are amazingly easy to clean, even when something gets burned. I use the same things I use on my Circulon non-stick pots and pans. If it discolors you just use a little "barkeepers friend" cleanser. I love that I can put these in a hot oven for the "finish cooking". I know these will last me a life time. They arrive carefully packed in their own little soft bags. So... Most folks would say your are nuts for spending the amount of money that All Clad charges for just one pot or pan. But then, these are also the folks who will spend $99 for a set of 10 pots and pans at a discount store and then end up replacing them often. They'll also complain because their food with cook unevenly, burn, the pans will warp, the handles become loose... well, you get the picture. When you buy All Clad, you are buying for life. Really!

I often cook eggs for one--as well as single veggie burgers--and the larger pans aren't as efficient for the job. The size is perfect, and the non-stick surface is excellent. I always use a bit of butter-flavored spray before heating up the pan because I want to be sure that clean-up is easy. I've used this pan many times since it arrived, and I'm completely satisfied with the results.I've gone through several small (

Buy Fox Run 2.75-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl
I bought this bowl for melting chocolate on top of a saucepan. Yes, it is lightweight but that is it's advantage. It has become my go-to bowl when I don't want to be bothered with using and washing hefty bowls. It washes easily by hand or in the dishwasher. It is the perfect size for melting chocolate, stirring batters, sifting flour into, prep work, etc. It is light enough for me to lift with one hand and gradually pour flour into my stand mixer bowl instead of having to spoon the flour in. It might not be the most hefty bowl on the block but it definitely does the job without making things difficult. If it eventually dents or warpes, I will have gotten my money's worth.
It holds less than 3 quarts, to my measurement, but that will not change my opinion of how useful it will be to me. I have purchased a few of the larger sizes and the smaller size of this bowl so I should be able to handle any cooking and baking task.
I liked the 4 quart so much I ordered 2 more to give as gifts. I'm beginning to use the 4 quart over the 3 quart doesn't seem to spill out as easily as the 3 quart.

Good large size mixing bowl, better suited to the electric mixer than other mixing chores because it is so deep. I'd prefer a wider shallower bowl for tossing salad, hand mixing of bread or meatloaf.Best Deals for Fox Run 2.75-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl
It's a stainless mixing bowl sort of thin gauge but serviceable. About the right size for mixing Martha White and Duncan Hines dessert mixes before baking. I also bought the 4 quart heavier stainless steel mixing bowl made by a different companywhich I prefer.I liked the 4 quart so much I ordered 2 more to give as gifts. Very nice steamer I use it a lot for vegetables like asparagus. One thing I was worried about was whether it would fit in my pots properly, but the graduated ridges work fine with two of my pots. The fact that this one comes with a glass top make it worth the extra money. The only negative is that the handles can get hot, so be careful.
What it fits: [From the box] fits Calphalon Professional Hard-Anodized, Calphalon Commercial Nonstick and Calphalon Professional Nonstick; fits 2.5,3.5 and 4.5 qt. sauce pans & sauce pots
I found it also fits 2.5 and 4.5 qt. pots from Calphalon Tri-Ply set Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless-Steel 13-Piece Cookware Set.
It is a bit on a smaller side. Large lobster will not fit whole, you'd have to break it up.
The bottom of the steamer is graduated, and the smallest step fits exactly right. No wobble. It does not match exactly. The lid and steamer handles do not match the Contemporary line, and the steamer is a polished single wall stainless as opposed to the Contemporary being a brushed stainless. But I care less about the form than about the function. Because the steamer rests in the pot at its smallest point, it does appear a little odd on the pot, since it is wider. I added pictures to illustrate my point. For those with the same 13 piece Contemporary Stainless set, the steamer appears as though it should fit the 2.5qt Sauce Pan, but it sits just a little too low and loosely, and tends to wobble. Not a good fit. It looks better on the 2.5qt because they are a similar diameter, but it just doesn't quite work.
Regarding the steamer itself, it is well made. It is a stainless steamer with a glass lid that fits very snugly. It is of sturdy and fairly heavy grade steel, and I don't see any reason to believe it will not last a long time.
If you have been looking for something to use with your Calphalon Contemporary Stainless as I was, you will find this to be a good fit and I recommend it.

Unfortunately, despite this being a "universal" calphalon steamer, it does not fit their newest line the "Unison" nonstick cookware set(Calphalon Unison Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set). Perhaps buying in store it lists on the box all the sets it does fit, but I did not see the info before registering for it online. The same applies to the double boiler. Just a head's up! Overall, though, the quality seems good, I wish it would fit!Honest reviews on Calphalon Accessories Universal Steamer Insert
Great product. I use this all year for steamed veggies, holds 6 ears of corn, or for steamed clams. Fits almost any of my pans, but I usually use it with the 2 or 3 qt saucepot.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Calphalon Accessories Universal Steamer Insert
I searched online for days, as well as called Calphalon in an attempt to find a reasonably priced and sized steamer from my recently purchased Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 13 piece set. Everything I read and heard directly from Calphalon indicated that I was out of luck. As it happened, I was in a Bed Bath & Beyond looking for something else, when I decided to take a detour into the cookware area to see what I could find. They had this steamer for a higher price, and also happened to sell the 13 piece cookware set I had purchased. So, I grabbed the steamer and took it over to the cookware on display. Lo and behold, it fits perfectly on the 1.5qt sauce pan. So, I came home, and ordered it from Amazon. The bottom of the steamer is graduated, and the smallest step fits exactly right. No wobble.
