Looking at the photo, I see what appears to be a vent hole..

It this is the case it deeats the purpose o the tagine method o cooking where it captures all the steam to base the food.

I did not believe baking in porcelain would make that much difference, but after baking one of my favorite cakes in the baker, I must admit the cake was soft and moist around the edges....Pyrex browns the edges too much. I have replaced most of my Pyrex with the porcelain, even at the high cost. It is worth the results. And cleaning is a breeze!!

Cheap Alpha Heavy Gage 24 Qt Stainless Steel Stock Pot with Glass Lid

I bought this because I am doing freezer meals now. I read the reviews on many stock pots and chose this one because it sounded like it was constructed well, and I wanted stainless steel. I wanted enough room to make many batches of stew at once or stock with several chickens. I am really happy with the quality, it has pretty smooth connections where the handles are attached, the handles feel good in my hand which is important because this is a heavy pot!!! The lid made funny sounds the first time I used it I was afraid it would shatter! But I think it was just adjusting the the handle. I have made 2 things in it so far and I love it! You will need a large storage spot, too big to leave on the stove. I keep mine in the linen closet.

So far so good for this behemoth! I just used mine for making a cooked brine and then submerged a 20 lb. turkey in it for our Thanksgiving Day feast which it accommodated easily. Worked and performed beautifully! The bottom is quite thick and sturdy. It is of tri-ply construction like its much more expensive brethren with a layer of heat conducting aluminum sandwiched between 2 layers of stainless steel. Also, like some of the MUCH MORE expensive stocks available on the market--this pot is not just made of "heavy guage" stainless steel, it IS 18/10 stainless steel. This is specified on the box it arrives in but for some reason is NOT listed on the product description here on Amazon which it should be! Why is that??? This was one of the key issues which caused me to repeatedly hesitate to commit to ordering it. If it had stated from the get-go that it is 18/10, I'm sure I would have ordered it immediately after doing only half as much research.

Anyway, I am more than pleased that I now at long last have a high-quality stock pot which will fill a variety of needs in my kitchen after having wasted money on a few cheaper stocks which only lasted once or twice before falling apart. Only one drawback that I can see so far: It is quite large but hey....it IS a 24 qt. stock pot so what do you expect? I DID absolutely make sure of course to measure the interior dimensions of my fridge BEFORE committing to ordering it as I knew it would be pointless to order it in my case if I couldn't find a way to squeeze it in there. I had to remove one of my side door compartments while putting it in and taking it out, but I expected that. Once it was in though, I was able to put the compartment back on the door and everything closed up just fine! So, if you are planning to use it to brine--just make absolutely sure you measure your fridge area first.

I will of course also have to store it in one of my closets when not in use as it will not fit anywhere in the storage kitchen areas---but that is a very small price to pay for such a high-quality kitchen item at a price that is a steel for what you get.

I see that a few others have commented on the looseness of the glass lid. Although I can understand the reason for this criticism, so far it really is not an issue in my short experience with it and seems purposeful in the overall design and construction. Perhaps this may be an issue later on, but I have so far used it for both hot and cold cooking and the lid has not been an issue at any time.

Ok, given the pricepoint and the whole online thing I was not expecting a pot too thick but this one is amazing. Very thick at the base large perfect for brewing 5 gallon batches of beer. It came in one day when I ordered two day shipping and was an unexpected suprise.

I just can't rave enough about the quality. Just perfect, I have used a lot of large pots for different catering and events this one is head and shoulders better then the thin metal ones.

I love this griddle! The encapsulated/ribbed bottom heats evenly and nothing sticks! I have always had trouble with bacon sticking and tearing in other griddles, but not this one. It also works great for cooking burgers. I can cook at low temperatures to prevent over-browning, and yet it still cooks quickly and thoroughly. It is easy to clean and if there are any grease marks left over, I simply add a little distilled vinegar to the wash water. I don't mind that the encapsulated bottom (in the shape of a circle) doesn't go end to end, it covers plenty of space and doesn't have any ill-effects on your cooking or the outcome of it. My only regret is that I didn't find this griddle earlier.

I searched high and low to find the right white lace vinyl tablecloth. This was the best one I found, and I have not been disappointed. Most of the other ones I saw had actual holes in the openwork lace cutout areas, which seemed to me to defeat the purpose of having a vinyl one (I needed a solid vinyl cloth to protect my antique table from my kids' spills). And the solid, thick, flannel-backed vinyl ones available everywhere were all too small for my long dining table and too bright and casual for my formal, traditional dining room (I don't have an eat-in kitchen to feed my small children on so I must use the "nice" dining room all the time and I didn't want to have to wash a fabric tablecloth every single day). I finally found this one, which has clear vinyl backing over the cutout areas of the lace pattern. I do wish it could have been thicker, like the flannel-backed vinyl tablecloths that were too small and informal for me, but then I realize it could not have the open-look lace style, so I guess those don't exist. The only way to get a vinyl lace one is for it to be relatively thin, with no flannel backing, but this one seems quite sturdy, and has stood up to daily use and wiping so far. (Reviews about some similar ones I had considered said they were too thin, almost like the disposable party-store tablecovers, and ripped after the first use! This one seems much better.) Be careful about oily or greasy food, though, because there appears to be a grease stain that won't wipe up, but it isn't too noticeable. The fold marks never completely go away, but I'm used to seeing fold marks on cloth tablecloths too so it isn't a big deal to me. It IS kind of thin with a slightly sheer look when the sun shines in, so you will see a bit of the brown of the wooden table underneath it (probably like you would if it were delicate real fabric lace too). I tried it with a plain white cheap fabric tablecloth underneath and it gives a completely different look the solid part of the white is a more solid and brighter white, the openwork lace pattern much less noticeable because white shows through the clear-vinyl-backed openings, not dark brown table. So that is an option, too, if the thinness bothers you. This cloth protects my table well from food, moisture and spills, but I don't imagine it will protect it from scratches (we have a cat) or heat, so I might keep the white cotton one underneath for long-term use (still easy-care because I can just wipe the top vinyl one clean). Overall I am pleased, but I would have been super-pleased if I could have found a thicker, flannel-backed white or off-white vinyl tablecloth that was long enough and elegant enough for a formal dining room. But those don't seem to exist! Also, customer service was superb quick response to my questions about the product and fast shipping. The customer service wasn't Amazon directly, it was the company who sold the tablecloth via Amazon.com, but I don't know the name offhand.

I bought this thing at Walmart to boil water and cook small quantities of vegetables (peas and the like) and I found it was impossible to clean it.

Whenever I buy anything new for the kitchen (pot, plate, glassware, cuttlery,) I always put it in the dishwasher first to clean it before I start to use it.

Boy, was that a mistake! It came out all spotted!!! Even with lots of elbow grease and steel wool, I still haven't managed to get the discolored spots out.

After I could not clean it, I found there was some strange information on the inside of the cardboard packaging, the one that had a big picure of a smiling Paula Deen that ran across the pot. The instructions said not to boil stuff in the pot and not to put it in the dishwasher. I think this information should be on the front side of the cardboard band so customers can see it BEFORE they buy this pot.

By the way, WHO buys a pot to do anything other than cook with it? And don't we all have dishwashers to clean our cooking stuff with? And what kind of material is it made of that just washing it makes it dirty with spots?

Th packaging said it was stainles steel but it's made in China, but who knows what they actually mixed in with the iron to turn it into steel? I've cetainly never had a stainless steel pot be impossible to clean and I have been cooking for over half a century. I have quarter-century old Revereware pots made in the USA and even older Italian Lagostina pans that my mother gave me when I married, plus many other no name brand pots of steel, cast iron, aluminium, Corning ware, and others. I have NEVER seen a pot that gets dirty before you ever use it or that gets dirty when it is cleaned.

Paula Dean should be more careful in checking the quality of the stuff she puts her name on! I love her show and books, but how can I trust her after this pot?

I bought this pot because I thought the little pour spouts on the side would be useful and I do not have them on my other sauceposts. However the big handle is too heavy for the pot and every time I put it on the stove it falls over, even if there is liquid in the pot. This could be a serious hazard and IMO the pot should be recalled/replaced because a pot that cannot sit on the stove without falling over is very dangerous! This is a quality control/design flaw that should have been noticed and addressed long before the product came onto the market.

I bought this little 1 Qt saucepan @Walmart (butter warmer is what the sticker said it was) as a tester to see if it would hold up to my kitchen usage BEFORE purchasing a collection of Paula Deen stainless/copper bottomed (uncoated) pans.

What I WANT is basically just some NON teflon or non-coated sauce pans of various sizes to replace my old anodized saucepans that have teflon coatings. I am tired of buying a full set of pans with coatings that NEVER stand up to a "lifetime" of cooking AND handwashing care.

I WANT 3 or 4 different sizes of STAINLESS pans that can be put into a dishwasher during large dinners without having to worry about coatings. So I purchased this little pan to test it out. I have been using for months now and while I love the style and size for heating up soup or left over veggies I am baffled as to why the outside stays beautiful...but the inside had stains that require me to polished it with a steelwool pad. Why does the inside stain, I wondered, since I only used it to heat soup or water or veggies? I followed the package instructions on soaking the copper outside with a baking soda solution...and with the first wash by hand everything looked shiny. Then I put into dishwasher and the stains showed up...but the outside was shiny and smooth. So after dishwasher I ended up using steel wool on inside...but stains remained on inside bottom. NOW I pulled the pan out of dishwasher and about 1 inch band of rusty looking spots circle the pan!!

I have a lot of stainless bowls and skillets and large pressure cookers that I have put into the dishwasher for YEARS...and only occasionally do I need to use a steel wool to remove spots or stains. But this Paula Deen stainless pot (without an inside coating) can not take the same treatment!

I'm disappointed. When I purchased I did not read that this item must be handwashed or I would not have bought it, (I have lots of caphalon pans that I must handwash so I wanted a plain stainless pot). I figured at the very least it would be similar care as my mothers old Revere Ware pans and my stainless bowls and skillets which can be put into dishwasher. I love the style of these Paula Deen pans...but knew up front that I would NOT buy as a full set since I do not want another pan with teflon in it anymore!

Perhaps this pan and the others of this design (without coatings) will hold up if only handwashed...but I won't be purchasing others of this brand.

I only use this pan to boil water for my coffee. It works well. I like the feel of the pan, it seem sturdy. The only concern I have is that the handle is too heavy for the pan which could be a problem when not full enough to offset the weight.

I had a Townecraft home demonstation and thought it was wonderful. The salesman was great and really made me excited. Then came the price. I've bought cars for less than that! I started looking around for that same brand on auction sites and found it 1/2 the price, but still very expensive. I went to the waterless cookware site and decided to give Maxam 9 a shot. It took 2 months to get, but the pans are good heavy quality, very easy to clean, and keep the food moist. Waterless cooking, however, takes patience to get right and you are likely to burn some meals if you stick to the time guidelines in the book. I've had them for about two monts now and finally got rid of all of the old teflon and rusty pans...they aren't coming back. I've cooked with the Townecraft pans before and you aren't going to see enough of a difference to warrant 6-8 times the price. Maxam 9 (World's Finest) is almost as good and won't kill your budget. As Zig Ziglar says "It's easier to justify cost once, than apologize for quality forever" The price is more than what you are going to pay in WalMart, but the cost over a lifetime will be much, much lower because you won't buy pans again.

UPDATE: On exactly the 30th day of purchase, while cooking, the skillet lid valve fell out of the lid into my skillet. I am getting a replacement and hope it was just a fluke and not indicative of quality of every set.

2nd UPDATE: The replacement fell apart within 30 days in the same manner as my first set. The steam valve fell out of the lid into the pan. I am returning for refund. I do love the oil-less water-less cooking but will look for a set that will last at least a couple of years.

I found the pans easier to clean than my 18/10 stainless steel cookware and almost as easy to clean as my 316Titanium Saladmaster. I wonder if those having difficulties followed the written instructions for how to care and clean your cookware: "In case particles of food become burned in your pan, fill the pan with hot water in a hot pan, cold water in a cold pan, and let soak. The scorched particles should easily lift off. If a stubborn burn has been created, partly fill the pan with water and bring to a boil. use a wooden spoon to remove such burned particles. If a stain still remains, it can easily be removed with a good stainless steel cleaner." I haven't had much burn in my pan because i am not frying in them or using over high heat, I am following the directions for low-pressure waterless oil-less cooking.

I fell in "want" with the nifty "waterless" cookware at the state fair, and drooled for years at the demos, but just couldn't justify the $2000-$3000 price tag. I knew I really wanted stainless steel pans, something heavy-duty, and that waterless cooking would be a plus. After LOTS of research, and many e-mails and calls to various manufacturers, distributors, etc. I decided to try this set I couldn't even find a decent set of regular stainless cookware for this price, much less waterless. Worst case scenario would be that I would have a decent heavy set of stainless steel pots and the waterless part might be a bust.

But it wasn't. Right off the bat, I was amazed at how colorful and flavorful my vegetables were, in less time and very little water (waterless cooking should actually be called less-water cooking in most cases). The carrots were awesome! I can cook meats and vegetables in the same pot, sort of in layers, in less time than conventional cooking the steam control valve provides a sort of low-pressure pressure-cooker effect, cooking the foods in less or no liquid in less time. Meats sear to the bottom, then release as they cook, in no liquid and clean up is easy. Even foods that seem to be "stuck," like the little browned parts of fried potatoes, soak off in minutes and clean easily. Anything that doesn't remove completely in water comes off readily with a Brillo-type pad (hooray for stainless steel!).

Something else I appreciated was that the sizes were ALL good sizes for our growing/larger family of ten. So many sets include little pans as standard, then charge a fortune for add-ons like 3-qt saucepans, etc. This set gave me four saucepans, a pretty big frying pan (just under 12 inch), plus the biggest Dutch oven I'd ever seen, at over 7 quarts! And the smallest saucepan is almost 2 quarts, so it's actually useful. The egg poaching insert with easy-clean cups is a bonus; great for quick breakfasts!

I have had my pots and pans for over ten years and they get HEAVY use. They still look great and work wonderfully. These are the pots and pans my daughters want for their kitchens. We liked the set so well that we wanted to make

this cookware available to our friends for their kitchens.

Combine this heavy duty stainless steel set with a few Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers for a well-outfitted kitchen!

By the way, this same manufacturer has another line besides Steam Control, but the distributors I "interrogated" said the others aren't quite the top of the line that these are. These should be the last pots you'll ever need!

To use the steam control valve, start cooking on medium to med-high heat (don't use high heat unless boiling something, like pasta water). Then when the valve begins to whistle (like a teakettle), close the valve and turn the heat down to low and finish cooking. The 9-element construction allows you to stack cook with this cookware (although I have not personally tried this): Begin cooking on individual burners and when the valve whistles you can invert the lids to stack the pans to finish cooking. The handles are resistant to heat, cold, and detergents.

I've been amazed at how easy-release they are even though they aren't "non stick," and they clean up very easily. And if you think you can't cook eggs in SS, think again. I have photos of eggs cooked with a thin lecithin/oil film (like Pam) and I don't even have to touch the pan with a spatula to slide the eggs out. Just don't cook above medium heat.(The one thing you need to remember is that they arrive with a thin coat of factory oil over them, so you should wash them really well before first use or they could slightly discolor from cooking the oil all over the outside.)

I also use my Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers DAILY, by the way. The KR cookers and my SS cookware are a great combination.

Overall these pots work as they should. They take some getting used re: how long to cook and overall I was surprised at how quickly they cook vegetables. I found that if I waited for the valve to "whistle" then the veggies would burn and overcook, so instead as soon as I see steam coming out of the valve I close it and turn down to simmer. That works well. Biggest problem is the round metal whistle piece that fits into the pot handle falling out into the food during cooking. This happens constantly and I've given up pressing them back in and just leave them out now.

I really like this. It's nice looking, sturdy and practical. I like that I can put hot water in the base, but don't have to. I also like that with the base, I don't seem to get any honey on my counter top.

For those of you who have never owned or seen one of these before. The honey flows out the bottom of the glass jar, controlled by the lever on top. This doesn't pour like a syrup dispenser. It's really rather nifty!

The only thing I could say that they could improve is that it can be a little cumbersome to fill. The hole on the bottom will leak the honey out as you fill it if you don't keep your finger over the hole. A little filler plug would be a nice edition.

It's okay, but just okay. The top, which looks like metal in the picture, is chromed plastic. I wonder how long the plastic opening mechanism will last. The stream of honey is very thin, even when in the 80's here. That amounts to a lot of waiting. Mine leaked into the glass holder right from the start as well.

This is a beautiful ceiling pots and pan rack. It's very heavy, hammered steel. It looks good and it looks as though it could hold a battleship. We have all of our pots and pans hanging just over the sink very accessible. It sure beats crawling around on the floor trying to find the right pan deep in the back of that low shelf or even a pull-out shelf. Besides, it is very decorative displaying those beautiful Caphalon and other expensive pots and pans you've spent so much money on. Real quality. Don't buy the cheap imitations.

This spoon is wonderful a must have in your kitchen. I love the thickness of the spoon. It can handle the stirring of thick batters when the recipe calls for stirring and not mixing with an electric mixer. It is excellent for cookie dough. My hands used to hurt with the regular thin silicone spatulas and I was always worried about it breaking. I love that you can separate the silicone spoon part from the bamboo handle for cleaning. That makes it dishwasher friendly for those people who are addicted to their dishwashers. Personally, I prefer to hand-wash all my best pots and pans and cooking utensils in order to preserve them for many years of use. This is why all my kitchen gear looks new. I'm definitely going to get my money's worth. I don't even want to have to buy them again. Because as we sometimes discover, companies decide to stop making certain products, and then we're straight out of luck and have to settle for inferior products as replacements.

I have a lot of OXO silicone products that definitely serve their purpose, but Island Bamboo is the cooking utensil to beat! They are solid, heavy, and well made. I also have a few more of their utensils. And, I will be getting more of them soon. I now have a shopping rule for my favorite things. If I like it, I now buy two. That way, if something unexpected happens to one of them, I have another for back-up. (just in case the company stops making them) And you can believe that I will guard that last one with my life! LOL

Well, I'm off to make my chicken noodle soup with my Bamboo Island spoon! It's cold here in Chicago! Brrrrr!

Love the quality of the silicone and the bamboo handle. Surprisingly thick head that gives great strength in stirring thick sauces or what-have-you. But the sides are curved, not straight, and, because they are also so thick, you cannot push them hard enough to get a clean scrape on the side of your saucepan/bowl/etc. That's just a poor design for my usage. Everything else, though, is top-notch.

This spoonula has a VERY heavy handle which makes it really hard to use.

Additionally, there was a label on the handle, that when peeled off left the handle really sticky and we've been unable to get it off!

I got this as a gift and since day 1 I use it for cooking everything.. It's like a spoon and a spatula it's the best kitchen utensil ever. The size of the handle is perfect for holding, it washes very well in the dishwater and as it is made of silicon, it doesn't disintegrate the way plastic utensils do.

This is a great item. Just remember to take off the head from the handle if you are going to put the head in the dishwasher.

I had received 2 sets of this silverware from Bed Bath and Beyond... Sept. 2006.

I ordered this set to replace some missing pieces.

NOT a match

I read the product description 18/0 and thought it was a typo because further down on the page in the product description it says, " Crafted of durable 18/10 stainless steel and designed to be used on a daily basis"

I'd send them back, they are cheap compared to what I had, but my hubby already had thrown them in the dishwasher and we were already using them before I really had a chance to check them out.

I could pick them out just by weight alone...

I'm pretty picky about my silverware. To me, a lot of them have an odd metallic taste to them. These do not. Besides that, they're attractive, comfortable to use, nestle well, and I love my company to see how they shine ;-)

We got the 45 piece set for our wedding a few years ago and I ordered this 20-piece set to add to our collection now while it's still on the market. Regardless of what another reviewer claims, this is the same high quality stainless steel as the original set I received, which I consider to be very high quality. This silverware is strong, you don't have to worry about bending the spoon when you're spooning out ice hard ice cream. We had a spoon get nicked in the garbage disposal once and it only made a very minor mark, which impressed me.

I received three sets of this flatware set. We love to entertain and often run out of flatware when we have guests over. We received these as a wedding present. I saw this set at a local kitchen store and fell in love with them. If I were buying them i would have bought locally but because we wanted to ask for them as a gift we purchased them from Amazon. There were some issues with shipping. The company sent the wrong set. Since they were a gift our friend took care of returning them and receiving the correct set. From my understanding they were very timely in sending her the correct set. We have been using them for about one month now and they have gone through countless washes in the dishwasher. So far they have held up well. They are perfect for everyday use but still add a touch of class with the beautiful hammered handles. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a new flatware set.

There are a lot of things to love about this pan. First, it's heavy enough to keep eggs from scorching. Second, it's truly non-stick...even using cooking spray, our omlettes slide out of the pan in one beautiful piece. Third, it's got great heat conductivity, which allows for even cooking (critical with omlettes, fried eggs, etc.) Fourth, it's so easy to clean, I reach for it for more than just cooking eggs. We use it as a small saute pan and our vegetables never stick.

The pan can also be put in the oven to keep food warm, a nice feature. This was a real find.

This is indeed a great pan, nonstick surface is wonderful and it conducts heat beautifully on my smooth cooktop. The coating did, however, bubble just to the side of the rivets inside the pan.

We bought this pan 1 1/2 years ago and use it a lot, but the non stick part is coming off and we never put it in the dishwasher and only use the plastic utensils. so.. for $29.50 it's okay, but don't expect it to last a life time. calphalon will send you a new one, but you have to mail in your old one first...

This pan is well worth the price that I paid for it. Cooks as expected and easy to clean.

But, I had to give it only four stars because the non-stick surface is starting to lift off a bit after only eight months of gentle 2-3 times a week use. I had expected a longer life for the "Triple-coated" nonstick surface.

UPDATE: December 17, 2009... ONE STAR for this cheap junk.

Within a few weeks after I wrote the first review the non-stick surface of the pan was peeling so badly that my wife stopped using it and hid it in the back of the cabinet. I found it there this November, and remembering that it had a "Lifetime Warranty" I shipped it back, via UPS per their instructions, at a cost that equaled 1/3 of what I paid for the pan.

Calphalon received my pan, which had been manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, on November 13, and today, December 17, I received a replacement pan back. Big problem though. The replacement pan I received back weighs about 30% less than the one I sent in, and the quality of workmanship is less than half the quality of the pan that I sent to them. So, the pan I received back is only worth about half the value of the pan that I sent in.

It was no big surprise to me to read on the carton that the new pan came in, "Made In China." Do not buy the "new" Calphalon pots and pans because you will NOT get what you pay for.

This pan is amazing. It passed our hash brown test. My other skillets, no matter how hard I tried and no matter what I did, they would ALWAYS stick. Even to my stainless steel skillets!!

Not with this wonderful skillet!! I sprayed some Extra Virgin Olive Oil with my Misto Oil Sprayer, that I also got from Amazon, and not ONE bit of the hash browns stuck to this skillet. They browned and came out amazing!! Then I made gooey, cheesy scrambled eggs!! Again, NO STICKING!! And clean up is a snap-wait until the pan cools and put in the sink with hot soapy water, very lightly wash, rinse, dry and your done!!

I love this Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick cookware!!!! I got all the matching pieces to the original 10pc set I got from Amazon and threw my other pans away!! I even went to the Calphalon site to order lids for the omlette pans-too bad they do not come with the set-I can always use the lids with the omlette pans. They do not make a lid for the stir fry pan though.

If you buy this cookware, you will NOT be sorry!! Just hand wash as they state, DO NOT PUT IN THE DISHWASHER, use nylon cooking utensils and get the Misto Oil Sprayer, and you'll be a happy cooker!! NO MORE stuck food!!!

I just cannot rave enough about this cookware!!!! I'm having fun in the kitchen again!!!!
