Yes, it's big, but I didn't think it was heavy. ***I JUST WEIGHED THIS KETTLE WHILE IT WAS FULL OF WATER AND IT ONLY WEIGHS 6 POUNDS. I can see that if you have trouble lifting a cat or bag of flour then you may have a problem here.

The craftsmanship is pure Kitchenaid. You will have no problem there. But beware that ONLY the stainless steel version is usable on glass-top stoves. The ceramic-covered versions are NOT. ***For those that don't know, you can click on this product to see what a glass-top stove/range looks like: Ceramabryte 28oz Cooktop Cleaner

The whistle is a bit screechy, but then again, you want it to alert you over the noise of the house.

The handle DOES get hot. Not burn-your-hand hot, but very warm. If you only touch the rubber part, you're fine, but you almost have to grab the whole thing to lift it and pour it safely.

I highly recommend getting the stainless steel version; it's beautiful and functional.

The Kitchenaid 2qt tea kettle is an attractive, solid-performing, and simplistic addition to my cookware. I got tired of boiling water in my small Calphalon pot that I decided to finally buy a dedicated kettle.

Sure, boiling water in a pot is fine, but have you ever forgot about the boiling water while waiting for it and it boiled dry? I'm guilty for sure. That's terrible for your pots too, not to mention a safety hazard. I wasn't sold on a stove top kettle over an electric but finally settled on the stove top.

The plastic electric kettles concerned me over leeching issues and the stainless steel electrics were very expensive. I was also worried that cleaning the electric kettle's would also be harder and really did not want one more thing in my kitchen to plug in amongst the mixer, toaster, microwave, ice cream maker, blender, etc. When Amazon's price dipped below half of what it cost elsewhere, I plunged in head first to get the stainless steel Kitchenaid kettle.

The stainless steel version, as mentioned by a previous reviewer, is safe on any stove top, including glass. This was the primary reason for me selecting the stainless, but aesthetic preference was a close second. As with any stainless steel interior pan or pot, there will be some white spots from hard water deposits, which disappear by boiling vinegar mixed with water and letting sit for about 10 minutes.

The kettle boils water quickly and the whistle starts out relatively quiet from a soft chirp to a full on, "hello I am B-O-I-L-I-N-G" whistle. The handle does NOT get hot. It can get mildly warm, but I would recommend either making sure you put the kettle on the correct-sized burner or using a slightly lower heat if having issues with a hot handle. I can't imagine that the silicone handles would actually melt, as one reviewer mentioned. I use Kitchenaid silicone trivets that get MUCH hotter and come in full contact with the bottom of my extremely hot pans and never have problems.

I just have a couple of minor issues. The functional complaint I have is that once the water boils and you lift the whistle, the steam that's collected in the whistle drips out onto the burner and kettle. My other complaints are related to Kitchenaid's packing decisions. The box that it came in, offered very little protection from scrapes therefore, my kettle had rubbed up against the box on the bottom, creating an unsightly blemish. Not a huge deal though right? It's on the bottom. The other is that they decided to use a very sticky tape to keep the lid safely shut during shipping. The tape was difficult to remove and did not completely rub off on washing. I may have to resort to using Goof Off to get the remaining residue off.

All in all, I'm happy with the Kitchenaid kettle and can't imagine a better value in another stainless steel kettle.

I have had many tea pots and most of them have been inexpensive.

I purchased this one hoping it would last longer and not

rust. I've had it for less than a month and it

is rusting already. I've been drying it out after

ever use to try to lengthen it's life.

I thought that if I spent $50 on a teapot it would last...wrong!!

Honest reviews on KitchenAid Teakettle 2-Quart Gourmet Essentials Stainless Steel

This is not 18-10 stainless steel. (It may be 18-0 to 18-8; chromium % nickel %) Also, it's made in China (what isn't these days?) so we're a bit concerned about the "heavy metals" content (lead, mercury, etc). The surface is rather extensively "brushed" and not as smooth & shiny as the product photo indicates. (a noticable amount of grey metal particulate was on the white paper towels from first cleaning prior to using) The handles & spout lid frame are cast aluminum and the 'soft' inserts are high-temp silicone compound.

KitchenAid 'branded' products are not what they used to be (again, what is these days?). Their counter-top mixers and some other products remain of significant high quality, but their tagline "For the Way It's Made." has lost it's way. (in addition to the aforementioned mixers, we also own a KitchenAid fridge, KitchenAid dishwasher, KitchenAid food-processor, KitchenAid coffee maker, etc.) (the coffee maker, by-the-way, was recalled & KitchenAid disenfranchised that entire product line)

For the rather high price this should be nothing less than 18-10 Stainless & should have a much smoother 'low-sheen' brushed appearance, if not a typical full gloss polish. (example: the Farberware Classic Tiburon here on Amazon and at half this KitchenAid price!)

(one last note: our previous KitchenAid tea pot, the red porcelain enamel version of this one (also sold here on Amazon), rusted at several areas within a week or two of light-to-normal use & a few particles of the enamel detached)

Probably will return this, unfortunately. (great style, though. if only looks were everything!)

We are so disappointed and are returning this item. We absolutely loved this kettle (beautiful, works well) but the RUST is an absolute deal breaker. We read about rust on one of the reviews but decided to take our chances anyway. I wish we listened we're sending it back.

Works well. I'm used to pressure cookers so this wasn't different but the red pin close to the handle got me. It wasn't in the right position when I got the cooker and when I tried pressuring it won't work. Then I realized it had to be up, not inside the hole.

This pressure cooker is the perfect size for me. I cook small amounts of food at a time. The cooker is good quality and works perfectly. With this one, as with others, after use and washing, I oil the seal and put it in the pot, not the lid, until next use. It will keep the seal supple and longer lasting.

If you use cast iron often, this is a great add-on to your collection. The silicone does not get hot, even holding something that just came out of the oven. Wasn't sure if this would work, but it does! Fits the small grip on most cast iron pans, opposite the long handle. Great for Dutch ovens, though you would need to purchase 2 of them. Great idea!

I purchased the Lodge ASHH11 Silicone Hot Handle Holder to help me with the heat issue in the handles of my iron skillets. I don't trust the stability of just using the single silicone hot handle, so I bought this to help me stabilize the skillet when I move it. Be prepared to shift your skillets and pots quickly, as these handles still get hot; however, the silicone is a huge improvement over oven mitts and potholders. I recommend this product strongly, but do not expect too much. Use this in conjunction with the Lodge ASHH11 Silicone Hot Handle Holder for, what I think, are the best results. I would give this 5 stars if I did not feel any heat through the silicone, but the product is still very good. After all, it is probably a bit unreasonable to expect that I won't feel any heat when I cook with iron cookware.

It's hard for me to rate these as I bought them for my Lodge cast iron grill. I just don't use the grill that much, so can't say that these are fabulous, but they do work for what they are intended.

I returned this item because it did not fit the helper handle at all as it was described. In fact, I was concerned that if I tried to use it, it would fall off and burn my hand instead. So it went back. Replaced it with a different style that works much better.

I would have never bought this pan if I had seen the reviews here, but I bought it on an impulse at a cookware outlet and I'm so glad I did! My pan doesn't have any of the problems (hot handle, peeling nonstick) that the other reviewers here have experienced. I suspect that since those earlier reviews the pan has been redesigned by the manufacturer.

Whatever the reason, I absolutely love it! It's the only pan I've ever found that is the perfect size (4") for english muffins and orowheat sandwich thins. Honestly, I'm a rather practical person, so I generally don't buy things with little characters on them, but this pan has ended up being the most-used pan in my kitchen. It's perfect for making scrambled egg sandwiches, so I use it several times a week.

If the handle starts heating up or the nonstick peels off, I'll update this review, but in over six months of weekly use, it's performed like a little champ! And, over time, the cartoon egg on the handle has grown on me, it seems kind of shocked or amazed... perhaps because it has to watch me cook an egg!

BTW-The secret to light, fluffy scrambled eggs is to use a low heat and stir constantly. It takes a little longer, but it is so worth it.

Enjoy!

Claire

I must admit, I'm shocked at all of the one-star negative reviews on this pan. This little thing is great! Firstly, I'm certain that 99% of the perceived issues with this pan are because people aren't using it correctly. For starters, LOWER your heat. This is a really small pan and heats up very quickly. As such you can't expect it will act the same as a much larger pan. The first time I used this I made the same mistake and put the heat where I would for a larger pan.

I had the same problem with the egg sticking. But then I lowered the heat and presto the pan worked great! Now I realize the pan heats very quickly and only minimal heat is necessary. I spray some cooking oil in the pan, let it heat for a minute and then add the egg. It slides off easily every time now. Realize, too, that non-stick coatings will deteriorate quicker under extreme heat.

The only issue I've found is that it is necessary to have a narrower plastic spatula so you can get under the food to turn it.

Once you learn to use the pan, it is really a joy to use. The design seems to have been modified to correct the handle issue and I haven't had that problem at all.

For the money, it's a good buy !

Best Deals for Joie de Vivre Mini-Fry NonStick Egg Pan

Although somewhat of a novelty item, it does produce perfectly round shaped fried eggs. I have had the best results by spraying it with oil and when I want to flip the egg, I loosen the edges with a spatula, slide it out of the pan and on to the spatula then flip it back into the pan.

Honest reviews on Joie de Vivre Mini-Fry NonStick Egg Pan

Not only is this pan unbalanced (the weight of the handle tips it over), it is terribly made. The first time I cracked an egg in it, after a few seconds of cooking I noticed black flecks in the egg it was the non-stick coating on the pan! The coating had chipped off and was floating in the egg. Don't waste your money.

My wife loves for me to make her an "Egg McMuffin" kind of sandwich, except with egg whites only, and on a bagel, and with Virginia ham intead of Canadian bacon. I make one for her almost every morning befoe I go to work. I had been using these egg rings, which you lay down on a hot frying pan. They work sorta ok. But egg always leaks out because either no frying pan in completly flat, or the rings are not. I have not ever figured it out. Then along comes this pan. Seems to be the perfect size for the pefect round egg. And really, it is! The egg cooks up fine, especially if you keep the flame on low, which on most gas burners give you a flame ring the size of the bottom of the pan. This also seems to be just the right amount of btu's for proper cooking. Turning the egg over is a problem, but not a huge one. Best option is to let the egg do 90% of it's cooking on the first side, then use your smallest spatula to turn it over for the last 10 or 15 seconds of cooking. There is one fatal flaw to this pan. It is the handle! For starters, it is of an almost useless shape, too wide and too flat to hold comfortably, were the second problem not evident-the handle gets just about as hot as the pan! Now the makers have seen fit to afix a goofy egg character on the end of the handle, I suppose to insulate your hand from it's cooking temperature surface , but alas, it gets just about as hot as well. Having said all that, I still use the pan every day because it is the only one of it's size I have been able to find. And it does make perfect round eggs for that morning sandwich my wife must have!

Addendum: 7/11/2012 The makers/importers of this pan seem to have read my complaint! ' The pan now comes with a re-designed , insulated handle which is so much better. I can now say the pan is just about perfect!

I like this product because of its look. I have only stainless steel appliances in my kitchen, so this fits right in. Also, it's the right size for my needs; I cook everyday. The only issue I have with it is that I CAN'T FIND ANY REPLACEABLE FILTERS! This is seriously annoying, because it only comes with one that lasted 3 months. I've ordered two different kinds: one was too big, the other was too small.

I only recommend this product if you can find replaceable filters that FIT.

Having lived with a smallish plastic bowl as our compost pail for over a year now, I thought anything with a handle and a lid would be an improvement.

This is a MAJOR improvement. Reasonably priced, takes up less space on the counter, does a fairly good job of containing the odors, is very easy to carry (through the 3 doors I have to open on my trip to the composter), holds more than a days worth of compostable items, and looks attractive enough on the counter top that even my dear mother allows as how she would have it at her house.

I know it is just a pail, with a lid, and a handle, but it is a pail that does what it says it will, and does it with class.

In addition to being useful for small-bowl storage, I was hoping these would work well as tea mug covers, and they did turn out to be a great size for this use. I'll be giving away a couple of them for Christmas to my tea-drinker friends.

Unfortunately, this product didn't work for me. I ordered the small covers, and used them on containers with smooth glass edges, but the pads didn't adhere. If something nudged the lid, like when moving things around in the refrigerator, the lid would unseal and slip to the side. I was really disappointed.

Best Deals for Charles Viancin - The Lilypad Lid Small 4" Silicone Suction Lid

I initially bought this set of 2 small lids for "steeping" our tea bags in our cups. I loved the way the lid suctions onto the cup creating a seal. I went back to Amazon.com and purchased three more in different sizes. I use the 7-8" one to cover my cereal bowl, when heating up oatmeal. I put small hooks on the side of my fridge, next to the microwave, to hang them (they have nifty hanger loops). They are great when microwaving leftovers too! My niece and her husband came for dinner last night and they saw our Lily Pad covers and wanted info on where to buy them.

Honest reviews on Charles Viancin - The Lilypad Lid Small 4" Silicone Suction Lid

I absolutely love these covers. I bought the larger version when I was on vacation this summer and immediently went looking for more sizes. They are great for warming things in the microwave, storing things in the refridgerator, and as lids on the stove (with care). The only reason this size did not get 5 stars, is because it is a hair too small. The lids go from 8 1/2 in. down to 4 in. with nothing inbetween. Great for coffee cups but slightly small for my utility bowls that I use to melt butter, etc. Still I use them on a daily basis and love them. A wise buy.

I actually have all three sizes of this product. So far, they've stuck to everything I've put them on: glass and plastic and look nice. I feel like I'm not wasting tons of plastic wrap for little jobs. The only thing I don't like is that you can't really put anything else on top of it in the frig due to the little 'handle' on top (more of a problem with the larger lids with the larger handles). Otherwise, it works very well, no more tangled plastic wrap that gets used once! Plus I can use it in the microwave!

I really like this pan and have found it Remarkably well suited for stir-frying, braising small cuts of meat, and it has even worked well for deep frying egg rolls. If you're interested in frying steaks, etc, I would not recommend this pan as it is a bit small at the base for such things. Instead, consider the larger De Buyer Country skillet (be forewarned that it is a heavy pan) or one of the traditional De Buyer fry pans.

My only complaint with the pan is that the silicone coating on the handle seems pointless--it is too thin to offer any real insulation from the heat and it has melted/cooked away at the point where the handle is riveted to the body of the pan.

Seasoning: there is an incredible amount of debate/information on the web about how to season steel and cast iron pans. My experience has been that the methods for seasoning cast iron and steel are similar but not necessarily interchangeable. The method I used, one that has worked well, is to:

1) Boil potatoes skins in the new pan as directed by De Buyer (this helps remove the bees wax coating that the pan ships with). Throw out the resulting grey mess;

2) scrub the pan thoroughly with soap and water to get off any remaining wax;

3) Heat the pan slightly on the stove to ensure that it is completely dry--about 2 minutes on medium heat;

4) Using a clean paper towel, vigorously rub a thin coat of flaxseed oil onto the insides of the pan (don't forget to shake the oil well before using it and to refrigerate it). I cannot reiterate that this layer of oil needs to be very, very thin--best to apply lots of thin layers than one big thick one;

5) Heat the pan until the oil cooks past its smoke point--about 15-20 minutes. Remember that seasoning IS NOT cooking and the goal here is to cause the oil to polymerize. If you are really interested, leave a comment and I will point you to a link that explains the chemistry in-depth;

6) Allow the pan to cool and then repeat steps 3-6 several more times;

7) After you've created a solid coating of 7-10 layers on the inside of the pan, just start cooking with it and it will continue to season on its own.

Cleaning; usually I just wipe it out with a clean cloth/paper towel; however, it does, on occasion require that I use some boiling water and salt to get out crusty bits.

These pans are amazing! they are the best cooking items we have discovered lately. Solid, smooth surface cooks evenly... it's almost like a smooth cast iron pan. We are throwing out all of our Scanpans. There is a big draw back though. They are extremely heavy. With some of the larger ones, they are very difficult to handle when trying to hold with one hand to dump/pour and use the spatula with the other.... but they cook very well, just remember to season the pan first.

Best Deals for DeBuyer Mineral B Element Country Cheff Iron Pan, Round

Alton Brown once said that his desert island pan would be a Lodge cast iron pan. I respectfully disagree. I would go with this pan in the 12.6" size. I have seared steaks, deep fried fish, made chilaquiles, and a whole lot of other meals in this pan. And i've only had it three days. When seasoned, nothing will stick. Eggs and potatoes slide right out, and i only have to give a quick rinse with hot water and dry on the stove. The high sides help keep the stove top clean when deep frying and help keep the food in the pan when stir frying. This is and will always be my favorite pan. I will be buying more for my kids so that they can start out with a good set of cookware. They are 15, 10, 6 and 3, so i have time to season this one well, and hand it over to the oldest. Then buy a new one and start the process over again.

The only drawback I can think of is the size and weight. I will be installing a hanging pot rack soon, so this won't be an issue for me, but those with less space may have a problem. The weight may be an issue for some, but the installed helper handle helps with this.

Buy these pans and you will be set. Take care of them and you will be passing these onto your great grandchildren.

I got very lucky and purchased these at Williams Sonoma during an unadvertised sale. I got both the 12.6" and the 9.4" for $85.00. But even at Amazon prices, it is totally worth every penny.

One last note, DO NOT leave these pans to "soak". They require immediate cleaning and drying. So if you or you significant other like to "soak" cookware, buy something else.

BUY THESE BE HAPPY!!!!

I didn't realize how huge this pan was going to be. I need two hands to move it when it's filled. But wow it holds a lot of whatever you're cooking. I use it to stir fry, boil smaller batches of potatoes, more versatile that I imagined. I was nervous spending so much on a pot, but I was so impressed by the quality I bought 2 more by the same company in different sizes. I am slowly replacing all my nonstick cookware for cast iron, stainless, and these types of pots.

I have a rotating base block which is next to my primary work area but I needed more slots for a few new knives.

I bought this block because it has three large slots, two small slots, and a large slot for a set of poultry shears which means it had everything I did need, and nothing I did not.

Slot dimensions from top to bottom: 1 @ 2.25", 1 @ 2", 1 @ 1-3/4", 2 @ 1", and 1 shear slot 1" x 5/8"

Lengthwise, the largest slot will accommodate a 9" knife, next two large slots will hold 8" knives, then the two small slots 7" each.

I really like the size of this knife block. It is tall enough to hold a 9-inch bread knife. Very sturdy and made well the bamboo is beautiful.

I'm happy with this purchase.

We had to return this item because it arrived with a large dent in the front. Maybe it was just poorly packed for shipping. Even ignoring the damage, we were not overly impressed with the appearance in general. The little emblem on the front seemed very cheap.

I have this pot rack, I love it, except....the swivel hooks are a pain.

When attempting to put a pot back, you bump the hook and it swivels out of the way.

Aaarggggghhhh!!!

I'm replacing all my swivel hooks with the stationary.

The pot rack itself is great.

People are always commenting on it.

I bought the rack for these hooks. I wanted more and didn't know for sure if these were right but they were and worked wonderful.

The Track Rack Swivel Hooks are a perfect match to the ones that came with my pot rack (I bought a few years ago). I would recommend this item to anyone who is looking to add more hooks to their pot racks that that these hooks fit.

I ordered a bar style hanging pot rack when we remodeled our kitchen. the rack is beautiful but it came with staionary hooks which I found cumbersome when removing or replacing the cookware. The swivel hooks are much easier to work with when putting the pans on and taking off.
