the lid looks great and fits great. Only thing is, the rotating steam vent used to adjust the amount of steam that comes out the top was faulty. It didn't fit correctly together, so it just rotated freely and didn't adjust the steam at all.

Still, I didn't buy it for the steam vent... perfect otherwise.

The Swiss Diamond pan covers are GREAT! I have purchased them for all of my pots and pans that they fit, saucepans, saute pans, dutch ovens, etc. The feature that sets them apart from all other covers is the steam-escape knob. You can dial it for an air tight cover, or for a little or a lot of air to escape. This allows for far fewer boil-overs and more precise simmering temperatures. And since they are glass you can monitor what's happening. I recommend them to everybody.

This is exactly what I needed and expected. If necessary, I can use the bottom pot for preparing pasta, but mainly I wanted something big enough so I could steam potatoes and vegetables at the same time. Just fill the pot with an inch or inch-and-a-half of water, bring to a boil, then turn the heat down to medium--or even low--and let the steam do the cooking. On this setting, it takes about 30 minutes to cook potatoes. I like the looks, and I love the handles, which remain cool while food cooks. All in all, this is excellent cookware.

So I'm going through a carribbean phase (hint the color). I'd steamed some lobster tails to perfection in this pot. I've tried mussels and shrimp as well. The top pot is slotted, so it's great for steaming.

This is by far the best steamer I have ever owned. I thought it seamed a little pricy at first but you know the old saying (you get what you pay for) is so true here. It is very sturdy & the steamer insert is a very good size. Would not hesitate to buy it again.

When this pan came to me I thought I had orederd the wrong pan. But I found that I like this pan just as it is. It is a bit small but It cooks big. This pan works very good as a steamer, as well as, doing posta for one or two persons at a time.

This is our third brand we have tried in 3 years. Our Calphalon worked great after one year and the non-stick surface stopped working so we tried the Earth Pan, that was a mistake for it started chipping a couple of days into using it. This brand works great so far and we even put it inside the oven to broil and it worked great. We did not have to use oil to cook omelette.

This is a very nice collection of cookware. Nice design (I like the copper touch), very solid construction and apparent good quality. I got this 2 quart sauce pan, which is nicely balanced in my hands, perfect for preparing puddings, boiling milk or eggs. Good anti-stick coating and behavior, easy to clean up. You can heat up a little more than a quart of liquid before risking spill-over. If you need more liquid, go with the 3 qt version (which is on my wish list).

I have several more pieces of this collection, all of the same quality. Not the cheapest cookware, but one of the few solid/good looking collections that work on induction tops. Heats up quickly on my induction cooktop for energy-efficient cooking. Nice cool-to-the-touch handles, with smooth surface, pleasant to hold.

One minor gripe is that the lids have a ridiculously over-sized handle, but perhaps that is mostly a matter of taste. However, turning the lid around to safe space (handle inside the pot) doesn't allow to rest it on top of the pot, it slides around.

I bought this pot about a month ago and think its great. I use it for sauces, reheating soup, and boiling water to make a small amount of noodles. It cleans very easily and I like that you can use silverware in it without being afraid of it scratching. I would definitely by additional pots or pans by Anolon when needed.

Best Deals for Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick

I have been testing the Anolon Nouvelle Copper 3-qt covered casserole for a few weeks now.

The Cons:

It is not dishwasher safe, but it does clean up easily.

The side handles are a little too close to the cookware. When I try to hold it by 1 handle and pour the contents into a strainer or scoop out contents, my knuckles rub on the hot anodized aluminum exterior. Ouch. I did find ways to avoid this.

The Good:

As I mentioned above, it is easy to clean by hand.

The rivet covers do help make it appear like a perfectly smooth interior and it does present less surface area for food to get stuck in.

The copper heats very well on the bottom and once heated, it does not take much at all to keep it hot.

I love the size of this dish. It's great for a 1-pot meal for 1 or 2 people or a good sized side dish for a larger family.

VERY flat bottom is wonderful on my flat top stove.

The anodized aluminum sides surround food with a complete heating environment.

I am very pleased with this cookware and recommend it. This piece is fantastic, and I'm sure, based on my experiences with this one, the others are winners also. Anolon makes very good and solid cookware. Nouvelle copper is another winner.

Honest reviews on Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick

This pan is very utilitarian and with a belgian belly and flared sides is great for sauces and small portions. I went with this over a 2 qt. and the extra 1/2 quart is excellent. Only thing is that it should be made with a glass lid.

Best Thunder Group Aluminum Stock Pot Lids Deals

Thunder Group 20 Quart Aluminum Stock Pot Lid
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I already have the 40 qt version from this same manufacturer. The cover is very nice, sturdy, thick-gauge aluminum. Based on that I ordered two of the 15 qt size for another use. This second use is very size-specific so I made sure to measure accurately. As delivered these lids are maybe 1/16" under 12" wide. They are NOT 12.2 inches across. This is measuring outside edge to outside edge. A more useful measurement is from indented edges as this allows for them sitting on the lip of the pot. By this measure they are 11" (outside) and 10 1/8" (inside), meaning any pot with an opening between those two ranges will accept these lids with a good fit. If your pot is 12.2" across these lids will fall in. Unfortunately for me, I require that extra width.

They are of the same quality build as the 40 qt so that is not an issue. This sizing discrepancy has left me with the option of either returning them and guessing at what size will actually work (and paying more to boot) or modifying (cutting) the pots I'm using to allow a filter screen to fit the opening these lids allow. I am VERY disappointed in the sizing information provided. The only reason they are not getting a single star is because the same excellent build quality is present. The lousy description of their true size easily knocks them down to 2 stars.

***

I went back and measured the first lid I received, which is 17" across (outside edge). Though had I requested the 40 qt lid (15.2") I now realize I was apparently sent the 60 qt lid. That lid has always considerably overhung my 40 qt pot but it didn't matter too much. I am now even more disappointed in both purchases for the pervasive lack of quality control.

I've been using this pot lid and the accompanying pot to brew beer. It has been a great brew pot as the aluminium has a much lower specific heat, which works much better on my electric range. It's huge and you really can't beat the price.

My only caveat is that you have to watch out what you clean this with as any chlorine-based agents will oxidize the pot.

Given all the concerns about e-coli and mad cow, we decided last year to start grinding our own beef and lamb. This grinder does the job perfectly. We grind right into the short round Ziplock boxes (about a hamburger's worth), which go into the basement freezer, and then we turn out the frozen "hockey pucks" onto a plate to defrost in the microwave, or right into the pot for bolognese sauce or sloppy joes. ("Honey, would you bring me up a couple of hockey pucks for dinner?)

Assembly is easy and cleanup is easy (put a slice of bread through after the meat to make it even easier, or grind up an onion if you're making meatloaf anyway). The knife and both plates store inside the screw cap, so I don't worry about losing them (though KitchenAid sells replacements, as does goodmans-dot-net). The grinder even comes with a handy wrench-thingy to help take it apart if it tightens up.

The knife and plates are not stainless (which wouldn't hold an edge), so you do have to dry them off right after washing, but I put everything, including the wooden stomper, right in the dishwasher, and after more than a year nothing has had a problem.

this isn't an industrial tool! You can't set the mixer speed above three or four when grinding (less if the meat is gristly), and you've got to cut up the meat small enough to fit in the feed tube (the instructions say one-inch cubes, but long strips work too). Treat this right and it will return the favor.

About the only thing that would make this more perfect is a cylindrical brush to clean out the horizontal and vertical shafts, since the dishwasher spray can't really completely reach both, and the horizontal shaft has a screw thread that tends to catch crud (Right now I'm using a folded sponge, and the abovementioned bread slice).

I work in the food industry, so I'm unfortunately comparing this to its commercial counterparts. If you have small batches of meat to be ground at a time, this grinder is so much better than the crank grinders and gets the job done in a quarter of the time. I still use it, but here's what I don't like about it:

The blade is junk. It doesn't cut the meat at all, and is more prone than ever to getting silver skin and grizzle wrapped around it, forcing you to stop and clean it regularly throughout the proccess. More so than most other grinders.

Stomper: They call this a stomper? Are you serious??? I have the new model that does not come with a wooden stomper, but instead has a plastic contraption that acts both as a wrench and a stomper. It's not solid in design, and is quite smaller than the hole so it tends to pull more meat up when you pull it out than it pushes down to begin with.

Since there is no gasket that comes with this and everything is plastic, the seals aren't real tight, and meat tends to squirt out around the plate quite often. This isn't a real big deal unless you're looking for a specific texture, as for sausage.

Horrible grind. Based on all the other faults with this machine, you'll never reach that beautiful solid grind that you see with commercially ground meat. It's more of a squishy mess, even with the large dye plate.

Good luck stuffing sausage. I spent thirty minutes fighting this machine to get ground meat into the casing with very little luck. I managed one link in that amount of time, gave up, and immediately ordered a Grizzly sausage stuffer (which is absolutely amazing, but that's another review).

I am very happy with the ease of clean up. One of those bristle wands that you use for scrubbing cups works great for getting in the grooves of the attachment as well as in the holes of the grinder plate. Just don't forget to hand dry the metal parts immediately or you'll have rust everywhere. I store all my parts in a zip lock back with some rice to keep them together and dry.

So if you just need something small to make a quick batch of burgers or meatloaf with very little effort, this is a great deal. But if you are trying to make large amounts of sausage of the same quality that you would find in a meat market, you may want to keep looking.

Best Deals for KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers

I've used this attachment more times than I ever thought I would. I've used it to prepare food items for my family as well as food items for crowds as large as 200 and regardless of what it is I've been making, this attachment has rolled through it without complaint. In combination with other pieces such as the sausage stuffer or the fruit attachments, you may well find that this single attachment stays on your machine the longest.

I am absoultely stunned at how easy it is to put together and how simple it is to get wonderfully ground items out of it. I've had no trouble grinding any cut of meat (marbled or lean), type of meat (venison, beef, pork, chicken), or state of meat (cooked or raw). Things like chickpeas also get ground just the way I like them. The two, differently sized grinding plates give you just what you need in texture. My biggest pleasure in using this attachment is during hunting season when my husband brings home more than one deer. Venison burger meat and sausage processing never went faster. No more late nights with a hand-crank grinder!

When you're done, there's nothing simpler in the cleanup. Nothing seems to stick to the plastic (plus, it's dishwasher safe!) and the metal pieces wash up quickly by hand. Even the little wooden stomper cleans well (and I've felt lost without it when I couldn't find it during sausage making). I think this attachment is the easiest to use of all of the ones I've tried.

I'll never regret the purchase of this attachment.

Honest reviews on KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers

Hi,

I love my grinder and have not any problems with it. After I slice the meat into strips, I partially freeze the meat before grinding it. When I have finished grinding, I take a piece of bread and grind it to push the rest of the meat through the grinder. I then take the grinder apart and rinse it out and soak it for about 5 minutes in a dishpan of hot soapy water with about a tablespoon of bleach. Wash and rinse the grinder thoroughly and lay on a terry towel to dry. I hope this helps anyone having trouble cleaning the grinder.

I bought this attachment at the same time I bought two or three other attachments, and this is the one I use all of the time. I found that grinding meats to be very useful. I have a mother who is 88 and she prefers everything tender and juicy. So unless it is cooked until it is super tender, she doesn't eat it. With the Kitchen Aid FGA that is all solved. For example I buy chicken in large quantities when it is on sale, and grind it up. Adding shredded rye bread, some Italian seasoned bread crumbs , rosemary, and oregano in the mix, and I make a hamburger(chicken)-meat loaf, or meat balls that are tender. Without the food grinder, I would have to buy preground meat.

Their are those who find that the best way to buy chicken is whole, that way you can inspect the whole bird. By buying parts, they are able to cut out the unsightlies, and sell the parts. With preground meat that is even more of a concern. With the Food Grinder attachment, you have the option of handling that item whichever way you may choose.

Clean up is a snap. It almost falls apart, disassembly is that easy. Cleans up easily with some soap and warm water, or by putting it into the dishwasher. The cutting blades are handwashed. They appear to be high strength steel, and I am concerned about them getting lost in the wash, and degrading the finish. They clean up in only a minute. The rest of it goes into the dishwasher.

Even though the FGA is made out of plastic on the outside, the internal components are metal. It is very durable, and works without a snag. No jams, no problems. It attaches easily to the front of your Kitchen Aid stand mixer, and sits very securely. I expect it will last for a very long period of time.

First let me say that I have an induction cook top, so I am limited to magnetic cooking materials. I tend to get bored having all of one brand, so my armamentarium is a hodge-podge of several brands including All-Clad SS, LeCreuset (both SS and enameled cast iron), Emerilware (both the tri-ply clad and the regular SS with the clad bottom), and plain old Lodge cast iron.

The CIA Masters Collection 2 quart saucier is perhaps my favorite. It has a nice heft, but is not too heavy, looks great, and has a great handle. The lid is a little nicer than the All-Clad as well. I only have this one piece, but suspect I will end up with more, as that handle beats the pants off of the All-Clad SS (the predominant player in my collection), and otherwise performs comparably to the All-Clad SS, which I consider the standard for comparison for SS cookware. Also I find it more aesthetically pleasing than any of the brands that I mention above, which is a plus in my book, although it has absolutely nothing to do with cooking.

Used it to make a Fleur de Sel Caramel sauce tonight and it performed excellently. My new favorite pan. Certainly not cheap, but pretty much comparable in price to All-Clad and less than say Viking. Anyway, if you don't mind paying for premium cookware, you won't go wrong with this piece, and I suspect anything in their line.

I have been replacing my old outdated cookware with quality pieces. This is the most beautiful and well made saucier I have ever seen. It is a joy to use, and is lovely on my stove. I'll be buying more of the CIA line as my budget permits. If you love to cook, treat yourself to this saucier.

The 2-qt version of this saucier became a favorite within days--the size is ample for polenta, risotto, aloo gobi, poaching marinated tofu, and Gordon Ramsay's fabulous Broccoli Soup--for making portions for one to four people. The lid is just heavy enough to be effective; the pan cleans like a dream, and it will probably last as long as I do.

I have been an avid user of cast iron for two decades and have used a variety of pots/skillets/dutch ovens/griddles for cooking darn near everything. I've used them for everything from cooking trout over a camp fire to making gourmet sauces for special occasions.

This is the first book I have seen devoted to the wonder of cast iron. But that's not what makes it such a great cook book.

The recipes are simple, filling and very good. Everything I have made so far has been a hit with my kids and hasn't left a huge mess of my kitchen. The skillet comes full from the oven or stove, goes straight to the table, and leaves empty. Many recipes can be finished easily in the short amount of time most of us have between arrriving home from work and when kids start howling with hunger. For those recipes that don't, I have made them one night and heated them through the next with great results.

I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to serve good food easily. That it comes from cast iron is an extra benefit!

This cookbook is awesome. I needed to replace my old non-stick cookware and decided to buy cast iron cookware. AND of course I needed a cookbook for cast iron cooking. This cookbook has so many great receipes, everyone of the receipes sounds mouth watering delicious. I have already tried several recipes from this cookbook, and my family loves them. I'm so glad I switched to cast irson, everything tastes great in cast iron.

Best Deals for Lodge CBSF A Skillet Full of Traditional Southern Lodge Cast Iron

I purposely chose this book for the history it offered. Since recently returning to cast iron cookware, I wanted to know what other cooks have learned. Kind of like looking over Grandma's shoulders...soaking up her wisdom and experiences. Well this book offeres lots of Grandmothers AND Grandfathers who are experienced cooks!

I noticed one of the previous reviewers called the recipes "quirky." I personally have to disagree. The example the reviewer used was "Strawberry Pizza," pg 178. It's baked on a pizza pan as any fruit pizza would be. I did not find anything I'd call bizare. All the recipes I've seen are what I am used to seeing and preparing, plus a few unexpected surprises...

For instance, page 39 starts a section just for cornbread recipes. 26 different recipes for cornbread...I grew up on just one recipe. I really can't wait to try "Ultimate Cornbread" (pg 48) which has sour cream and cheddar cheese listed as ingredients.

This book also offers all the other chapters you would expect to find; breads, veggies, eggs/cheese, poultry, fish, meat, etc.

All the recipes offer us a suggested pan to use, the names of the author(s) and sometimes a little story to go with the recipe.

I've truly enjoyed reading this cookbook. All in all, a delightfull, fun cookbook to use whether or not you are a fan of cast iron cookware!

I do hope this review helps you...

Beka Cookware Vita 9.5' Silver Nonstick Fry Pan

After I cooked with oil (I used extra virgin olive oil or peanut oil) on this pan, a sticky film was left on the pan that cannot be removed. Pans seem to be coated with a plastic type material, very similar to Teflon pans. You can't use metal or abrasive utensils on this pan, or it will scratch the surface. They seem to be as delicate as any non-stick PTFE Teflon pan. Are they safer? I don't know...

After using it for about a month, the pan is no longer non-stick, and in fact everything sticks to it. I tried seasoning it, cleaning; vinegar, baking soda, everything. Nothing has restored the non stick, or the first time performance. Yes, out of the box they worked. Second time, no problem. By the third use, already issues. 9 uses, and they're done. I babied this pan, and still it failed. These Beka pans are just junk.

Beka's Ceramica pans have a small country of origin logo that says "made in PRC" I assume this means made in China. Don't waste your money on these. For the price, buy stainless steel, or cast iron. Shame on Beka for NOT disclosing that this pan is NOT made in Europe. Just a basic low quality Chinese product.

I absolutely love this pan. I had been looking for a non-stick pan that was PFOA and PTFE free. I was excited when I found this one. Beka Vita Stainless-Steel Nonstick 9-1/2-Inch Fry Pan Since I've received it, I've used it many times. It's my GO-TO pan for just about everything. The real test for me, was cooking pancakes on it. But not only did the pancakes just glide off the pan without sticking, I didn't use a drop of oil on the pan before pouring in the batter. I will definitely be buying more in other sizes in the future.

I use my non-stick 10" skillet everyday but found I was coming up short with the number of pierogis I could cook at a time. I have also learned not to invest megabucks in non-stick cookware. I settled on this pan after reading reviews in Cook's Illustrated and have been very pleased. It's become a staple in making and serving spaghetti sauce, egg dishes, and yes, pierogis. It is giving my 10" a run for the money. The light weight, the glass lid, the easy-clean surface just make for a great all round pan. One word of caution, it is not at all deep sided. Think of it as a big omlette pan. UPDATE: After using this pan for about 2 years now, I have downgraded it from 5 stars to 4 simply because I realize that I find the side handles not so user-friendly. They are a little small to grab hold of when you are trying to transfer contents of the pan to a bowl or whatever, and if your hand goes from the cushioned part to the metal part, it's hot. It's still a great looking pan, and the non-stick surface is holding up well. But I find that I will often choose to use other pans because of the handles.

I am very happy with this new skillet. I especially love the two silicone handles on the sides which do not get hot. That makes draining, etc. much easier than with the one-handled skillet I had been using. Also, the nonstick Calphalon is just great for clean-up and I also like the see-through glass lid which allows you to see what you are cooking, check progress, etc. For the money, I think this skillet offers great value and convenience. I would highly recommend it.

Best Deals for Simply Calphalon Nonstick 12-Inch Everyday Pan

I already had a Calphalon 12" Everyday stainless steel pan that I loved, but I also wanted a non-stick one as well. I wanted to use the non-stick to brown meats on the stove top then transfer to the stainless steel one inside a pre-heated oven because it can withstand higher temperatures. I purchased the Cuisinart Chef's Classic 12" pan which I liked except it wasn't as deep as my Calphalon Everyday pan. While stirring food in the pan, some of it would occasionally fall out because the sloped sides were not quite high enough. The Amazon spec said it was 2.8" deep so I looked for something about 1" larger. This Simply Calphalon Nonstick 12" pan description said it was 3.9" deep, so I purchased it. Immediately after opening it, I could see it was barely 2" deep. If you put the lid on it, then maybe it was 3.9", but that is not the way a potential buyer would consider it. As a result, I will be returning this pan and maybe buying one in "gasp" an actual store where I can see what I'm actually purchasing. I've bought a lot of items through Amazon and usually it's been a good experience. There was another time I was sent something that was not as described, but I had no issues returning it, so I'm hoping it will be true again. If a 2" depth is not an issue for you, I would say this would be a good purchase for the price. I like how easy it is to clean the non-stick version and it browns meat as well as my stainless steel one. By the way it's not that difficult to clean a stainless steel pan, so don't let that stop you from considering that as well. Just keep a can of Bartender's Friend near by. That stuff is amazing.

Honest reviews on Simply Calphalon Nonstick 12-Inch Everyday Pan

The Calphalon Everyday pan is an excellent addition to my kitchen. This 12" pan has the non-stick surface, unlike the everyday pan I have owned for over 10 years. As expected the non-stick surface makes clean-up much much easier especially for egg dishes and stir fried dishes like Pad Thai. I am very happy with it.

In my quest to become a better cook, of healthier food, I have recently purchased some higher end pans. One thing leads to another, and an experiment with the recommended Simply Calphalon 10 inch fry-pan led me to the 12 inch Everyday pan. These two pans constitute my everyday cooking "wardrobe". I could not praise Simply Calphalon enough. The pans are beefy without being too heavy. They heat evenly and consistently. Foods, given a minimum of appropriate oils, do not stick, therefore both turning and clean-up are as easy as could be hoped for. The Everyday pan has the advantage of having no long handle, convenient for me as my cooktop fits 5 burners into a 30 inch space. Both pans transition to the oven with no damage to food or pan. Unfortunately for me, a number of expensive stainless pans are sitting in storage, while these reasonably priced pans are used constantly..

We use this pan everyday. Nice thick bottom for even heat and the lid has strainer holes that can be aligned with the pouring spouts on each side of the pan. The pouring spouts are not really visible in the picture but are really handy.

I'm quite satisfied with the pan. I like the drains on the sides. It also has fill lines on it. I wish it was a little heavier material but it will be fine.
