This is a quality pot which I have used it for over 10 years. All handles are coated so you can touch them while cooking. So I do not think that they will be rust. I think the previous reviewer bought a different product? I made all kinds of hot pot (Shabu Shabu, Sichoen style chinese hot pot, thai style sukiyaki, vietnamese Pho, etc)in this pot. It has served me very well since I was just a college kid and lived in a small apartment. Keep in mind that this pot is a little small. It can serve 2-4 people only. At my parents' home, we had a non-stick pot that is bigger and can serve the whole family. However, the non-stick chipped only a year of constant uses.

Nevertheless, I rated this for 4 1/2 stars. I used the pot heavily, so one of the small rings/handles on the cover has become lose so it will touch the cover while cooking so you can't touch it without using a kitchen cloth. However, this can be easily fixed. I normally tie the ring with a piece of paper towel so the ring will not touch the surface of the cover.

This is a stainless steel pot so you can use with gas, induction, electric burners. However, because it is stainless steel, so sometimes it can be difficult to clean. But if you know how to take care of stainless steel cookware, you will love the pot.

All of the Platinum Collection pans come with a limited lifetime warranty but these pans are so durable that I doubt you will ever use it. I had this same pan that I bought from W@lm@rt for much less and I was disappointed with it from the start. It always stuck and seemed to bake uneven. So I went online, did some research and found out that Nordicware makes the same pans in different qualities. I had bought a cheap one. I ordered a Platinum from Amazon and I've not regretted it once. I have used this pan for muffins at least 50 times and I've never lost a batch to uneven baking or sticking. I have since ordered them as gifts.

These pans are a terrific addition to a baker's kitchen. Easy to use, easy clean-up. Non-stick for sure! I used them instead of a big bundt pan to make individual cakes. Perfect for the holidays! If your cake normally takes about an hour, plan to bake in these small pans for 15 or so mins. I was able to get ~36 individual cakes from one recipe.

I was getting ready to fry a batch of potato latkes (pancakes) for Hanukkah and it occurred to me that I did not want all that fried food for dinner, so I took out my Nordicware brownie pan, as yet unused, and decided to try it. With a spray of canola oil in each cup, they came out easily and perfectly shaped. It is a long way different from my usual, but I think they look pretty and will make an impression on my guests without all of the frying.

I am now inspired to think of other ways of using this delightful pan.

This pan makes great pumpkins for a fall cake. Make sure you spray it well with bakers joy or any other non stick product. Wash it by hand. It made beautiful little pumpkins for my son's first birthday party.

I've owned this pan for 20 years and am buying one for each of my daughters. With spray oil, it makes muffins crusty on all sides and tender inside. Children love the shapes even without icing which makes it great for young birthday parties. For cupcakes it makes lovely mini pumpkins and other seasonal shapes. After 20 years of use mine is still great.

I love ALL of my fiestaware, but I really didn't like the mugs that came with one of the sets (so I bought the set with the cup & saucer instead). I recently bought one of the square mugs and now I'm hooked and had to buy more. They have a nice big handle and I love the shape.

Best Deals for Fiesta 13-Ounce Square Mug, Lemongrass

Purchased 6 of these mugs a year ago. They are indeed beautiful mugs and are extremely well made, no chips so far. When I purchased them they were advertised as 14oz. however when using a measuring cup these mugs are 12oz to the rim. Will only hold 11oz. comfortably. Another thing these mugs are very heavy which seems to quickly draw the heat away from the coffee, thus the coffee does not stay hot long.

All the quality that Fiesta is known for. The color is really a light spring green, it looks more of a chartreuse on the Amazon website. Very fast shipping and arrived in perfect condition.

I have hoped to find a true competitor to Le Creuset for years, one that was more affordable and of the same quality. Staub fills the bill, and fills it with style. This cocotte is large enough to accomodate a good-sized chicken, and is perfect for slow-cooked stews and braises. The interior coating is easy to clean and effectively non-stick. While its weight may be a deterrent for some, it is so attractive that it can be left on the stovetop or on a counter for easy access. It is my best purchase of the year and I look forward to using it for years to come.

I've had the 7 quart Staub oval cocotte for a few weeks now, but it was too hot to cook anything stew-like until this week. Tonight I finally tried it out with a recipe for Chicken Stew with Winter Vegetables that I've been cooking for a good 10 years now. A classic Pierre Franey recipe. My old Le Creuset 5.5 quart French oven was never quite large enough. The Staub performed to perfection. It large enough to accommodate a large cut-up chicken and a ton of veggies with room to spare. It came up to a brisk simmer very quickly, and maintained the heat when I turned the heat to very low. The lid performs exactly as advertised. It seals completely. Not a wisp of steam came out of the pot. The spikes on the underside of the lid condensed the steam into moisture and cooked those vegetables at the top of the stew that were not completely submerged in the broth perfectly. My old Le Creuset would leave some of those veggies half-cooked while the rest were overdone. The veggies in this stew were all the same toothsome consistency.

I haven't tried to brown anything yet, but I am very impressed at the broad bottom surface that looks like it will accommodate a lot of meat at once. Very nicely designed.

Finally, the Staub is just gorgeous to look at. I know that how a pot cooks is more important than its looks, but, let's face it, we home cooks enjoy admiring our equipment. I bought the grenadine color and it is a really amazing shade of deep wine red, and the glaze is very glossy. It's just a pleasure to show off. I have a feeling that Staub may be discontinuing this color, because I got it for $199 on another site and now it is $203 on Amazon while the other colors are $239. So this color is a fantastic value if you buy it here or look around for a special.

Best Deals for Staub Oval Cocotte 6.75 Quart

If you're shopping for enameled cast iron, you already know the rave reviews for Le Creuset and I agree with them. But Staub is also a fantastic product line, equally gorgeous and with its own long tradition of French-made craftsmanship. These are the best of the bunch for cast-iron ovens.

I prefer Staub for its black, impossible-to-stain interior finish, super-heat resistant brass/stainless handle knobs and the built-in "doufeu" lid ridge to accommodate ice cubes for even more moisture/basting generation. Le Creuset sells a separate doufeu oven, at more than $250, but it's not a feature of their standard French or Coq au vin ovens.

This oven is large -easily fitting a large roast or whole chicken plus veggies. It has handles generous enough to fit four fingers, and the dimpled interior lid well described by Staub literature for optimal internal basting. The basil enamel is absolutely gorgeous, deep and rich with gradations in coloring on both the lid and body. My pieces have no flaws in enamel coverage at the seams, and no nicks/bubbles/imperfections in the finish, inside or out.

I ordered mine through Amazon, but it wasn't shipped through Target, so I can't speak to the vendor or shipping experience. I'm happy to see Staub carried by more popular stores; it's a shame it doesn't have Le Creuset's market exposure, just so discerning folks know they have a choice in really exceptional enameled cookware.

I said I would be lazy and re-print the relevant parts of this review under all the Staub products I own, for those looking at specific items rather than the entire product line. If you're in the market for a French oven, definitely consider Staub's features and quality -you won't be sorry.

Honest reviews on Staub Oval Cocotte 6.75 Quart

I have had this Staub dutch oven for a couple of months and have found so many uses for it. I have gotten rid of all my slow cookers and use this dutch oven instead. I have made pot roasts a couple of times and they come out so tender. Everything can be done in one pot because this dutch oven can be used on the stove and in the oven. You can saute onions and garlic and then brown the meat. After adding water, you can bring it to a boil before putting it into the oven. When potatoes and vegetables are added later, you can bring it to a boil again before returning it to the oven. This saves time in getting the water back to temperature after adding ingredients. I've also made some wonderful soups and stews using this dutch oven.

Cleanup is a breeze. Just rinse with hot water and wipe with a dish rag. Nothing sticks.

This was a beautiful dutch oven out of the box, but both my husband and I were not able to get the lid to rest flat. We noticed that there was a bump on the lip of each side of the lid which caused it to rock back and forth. I was so disappointed because I have a 4 qt round Staub cocotte that we love and was really looking forward to cooking bigger meals in this pan. I noticed that another reviewer cited the same lid problem. I wonder if I got his returned cocotte because ours looked like a return. Someone else has peeled the inspection sticker from the inside of the pan (I could see where it had been) and then while flipping through the pamphlet that came with the pan, I saw that someone had stuck the sticker (said something like inspected by Frederick) on the back page.

I bought the Metrokane Rabbit as a Christmas gift for my parents and it has since become the most indispensible item in our kitchen. We drink wine every night in our house, and have been through many a corkscrew, but absolutely nothing compares to this. The Rabbit makes short work of opening a bottle of wine for even the puniest-armed of us, and indeed, has caused one or two scuffles at dinner over who gets to open the next bottle of wine! Three swift, smooth movements will open even the most stubborn bottle, and with none of the grunting, puffing and red-faced struggling that often accompanies this manouvre. There is a particular brand of white wine I drink that is next to impossible to open if you have left the bottle to chill with the cork in it, and I actually broke 3 "traditional" corkscrews trying to open one single bottle of this. Well, in the highest praise I can summon for the Rabbit, I have not had a problem with one of these bottles since I bought it. If you are a wine-drinker, or even just a lover of gadgets, buy this now!

I've been using these Metrokanes for several years now and I wouldn't want to use anything else. They make absolutely anyone look like a pro opening a bottle of wine, while of course at the same time avoiding the occasional broken cork plunged into the bottle horror.

Whenever we have guests, they always comment on the Metrokane, and as a result I've found it makes a perfect gift. In particular, this silver model is extremely attractive.

I bought both this and the similar version from Brookstone this year. I was expecting a lot from the metrokane, but it turns out the Brookstone is much better. It's $60, but the Brookstone version will last you MUCH longer than the $45 metrokane.

Among the differences: The metrokane is made of plastic, the Brookstone is metal. The Brookstone model comes with two bottle sealers, and it's case is made of very high quality leather-like material instead of cheap plastic. Finally, my metrokane is brand new, and I've already managed to scratch the finish, since it's so cheap.

If you're looking to get a new wine opener, do yourself a favor and BUY ANOTHER BRAND.

Honest reviews on Metrokane Rabbit Wine Opener Tool Kit, Silver

Don't waste your time on this company.

My first Rabbit had a plastic handle. When it broke after several years of use, I replaced it with a metal handle Rabbit because it had 10-year warrantee. (I think the first one had a 2-year warrantee.)

The new Rabbit malfunctioned. A mission-critical piece of rubber tore, making the Rabbit useless. I sent the Rabbit to Metrokane per the package instructions. (I paid the postage and also had to enclose a check to cover *their* mailing costs.)

A week or so later, my Rabbit was returned to me without any repairs. Their note said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the thing. I phoned Metrokane to complain. They said that the rubber was not covered by the warrantee. I was told to get rubber glue to fix the thing. I checked the warrantee. Nowhere does it say that certain parts are not covered. Finally they agreed to replace it.

The replacement was defective. The Metrokane rep. copped an attitude when I complained, saying that I was probably using it incorrectly. (Remember, I'd owned a Rabbit and had used it for years, so I'm sure I knew how to use it.)

The company wouldn't send another Rabbit and I refused to spend more money to return the second defective product. I'm using a $10 knock-off now. It works every time.

If you are looking for a well functioning opener, this is not it! Much better "rabbit" type openers are on the market. First is the fact that it is mostly plastic, not metal, so don't be fooled by the metallic appearance in the photo. When opening the first bottle, (with normal cork). I noticed it was much more difficult to use than the old one (other brand) I had. It required extensive pressure to insert the cork, to the point I thought the flimsy plastic handles would break. Then I opened a second bottle with a plastic cork. This almost broke the opener when using upward pressure to remove the cork from the bottle. And after finally getting the cork out of the bottle, (it took two people), the cork would not come off of the screw. I had to manually untwist the cork from the opener. Save your money, spend a little more and get a real opener. This one is nice to look at but not functional! Real Junk, and not cheap!!

Buy Brita WAP BRITA ULTRA MAX DISPENSER Cookware

Brita WAP BRITA ULTRA MAX DISPENSER Cookware
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I upgraded from the 3-quart pitcher to this model and I find I use this one more frequently (no lifting during dispense) and I find it very convenient in terms of how it fits in the fridge (perfectly) and its sheer mass (children can frolic in it during the summer months). But it suffers from three inadequacies: 1) it takes 2-3 fill-ups of the top chamber to fill the unit so you have to come back to it several times over the course of 15 minutes. 2) the cover doesn't snap on so if the top resevoir area still has water in it the chance of you heaving a 2-gallon container into your Frigidaire without spilling any into the crisper is near nil. 3) if there are any dishes in your sink, this won't fit there to fill up so you invariably have to pitcher the water into the top.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again and I would highly recommend this over the pitcher, but it seems clear the design could be improved.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

If you can spare a little more room in your fridge I HIGHLY recommend buying this 2-Gallon UltraMax over the pitchers. It lies flat on the shelf and has a easy to use tap. MUCH MUCH better for kids and anyone else who has trouble gracefully lifting 3 quarts of liquid with one hand (read: most everyone). With this design you simply open the door and fill using the tap. With the pitcher models, the tilt and weight tend to be awkward and I think spill or overpour about 30% of the time -especially in the middle of the night. The Ultra Max hold about 2 1/2 times the water (less refilling) and costs only $3 more.

This change in taste has dramatically changed how much water I drink. Highly recommended. A great gift, especially for those people with the pitcher models.

Best Deals for Brita WAP BRITA ULTRA MAX DISPENSER Cookware

On top of holding more water in its main receptacle, the UltraMax holds even more than it seems. With the UltraMax, you can keep the receptacle ON TOP of the filter filled with water as well. This way as you dispense water for drinking, more water filters down into the main receptacle. When you refill, let the water filter down till full, then fill up the top part again. You will find that the unit lasts a very long time bewtween refills. You cannot do this with the pitchers because the water spills out of the top part when you lean them over to pour from them.

Honest reviews on Brita WAP BRITA ULTRA MAX DISPENSER Cookware

I have always had a problem with drinking the suggested 8-8oz glasses of water per day. But the Brita dispenser is so simple to use and makes water taste so GOOD that it has encouraged everyone in my house to drink more. I even have a 3-year-old who loves to open the fridge and get herself a cup. A great buy no problems with the spicket or anything else!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Brita WAP BRITA ULTRA MAX DISPENSER Cookware

I bought one of these because I figured it would be easy to dispense all of the water I wanted, and the large size would help me not need to fill the pitcher all the time. I never really had any problems with the product. The water was decently filtered and the dispenser operated smoothly.

The real problem I had with it was how much of a hassle I always found it to fill. The jug dispenser was too large to easily fit in my sink, so I couldn't fill it up that way. So I tried switching to a system of filling it up with consecutive glasses of water, but that was hard to do in the confines of my refrigerator. I would end up taking the whole thing out of the fridge, filling it up with a number of glasses of water then trying to move the dispenser with the top half full back into my fridge without spilling it. This really turned out to be too big of a hassle for me so the darn thing was always empty. I just went back to ye-old-fashioned pitcher and have never been happier.

Was looking for something like that for a long time, and was shocked by store prices ($100 plus). This item is not in any way inferior to those overpriced dutch ovens in stores. LOVE the color (royal blue, with gradient). The enamel coating is surprisingly non-sticky. Negatives (minor): 1) have to hand wash it, and 2) the rim between the inside and outside enamel is unconditioned metal -will rust if not dried immediately after washing. I am completely OK with that given how much money I saved for something that works and looks like designer cookware. People commented that the plastic knob on the lid does not survive temperatures higher than 380 in the oven -cannot comment on that, I only use it on the stove.

This does just what I wanted: it cooks evenly, keeps in moisture, doesn't stick and cleans in a flash. I use it primarily in the oven to roast a whole chicken or bake fish, for example. I have had to tighten the knob on the lid every so often, but otherwise have had no problems. I can't see how the expensive name brands could be worth the additional cost.

Review of Ecolution Elements Eco-Friendly 8 Piece Cookware Sets

Ecolution Elements 8 Piece Cookware Set, Grey
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
I bought this cookware set because they were Ecolution, and the color green was what I wanted. I used them twice and the coating on the bottoms of the pans are chipping off. I don't know if this will interfere with how they cook, but I did not expect that this would happen after only using a couple of times! I just missed the deadline to return them by a couple of weeks, so unless I want to only receive a minimal amount of the purchase price, plus the cost for return shipping, I will just chalk it up as a "poor selection", and purchase another set.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

BARELY a 2 star review. Looks nice, non-stick coating is excellent, the issue is with the general construction. Sub-par rivets and handles are poorly designed and sure to fail during regular use. Our Ecolution 10" pan is only 3 months old and the handle is already starting to spin, and there is no way to tighten it. Fine for a cheap set to give to a student, or someone furnishing their first kitchen, but this is low end stuff hiding behind a fake eco-friendly name/label. It is NOT eco-friendly if you have to throw it away 6 months later.

Best Deals for Ecolution Elements Eco-Friendly 8 Piece Cookware Sets

Do not buy this product if you have a gas stove. St handle started smoldering & melting the first time I used it. There is no warning on the package whatsoever. highly Disappointed.

Honest reviews on Ecolution Elements Eco-Friendly 8 Piece Cookware Sets

I brought these pots and pans because they are PFOA free. Since the non-stick coating seems very durable, I'm very happy with that. However, the outer green coating stains and scratches very easily (as another reviewer pointed out). It probably does not affect the functionality, but those scratches and stains are very noticeable and I find them very ugly. Since I'm happy with other Ecolution cookware, I would just avoid these green pots and pans for aesthetic reasons.

****Update****

There is another probelm I would like to point out. The handle on the Ecolution frying pans gets loose very easily. I have to tighten the screw almost every other time I use the frying pans. It happens to both of the frying pans from the 8 piece set and also to another Ecolution frying pan I bought separately. So, I have to say it's a design flaw.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Ecolution Elements Eco-Friendly 8 Piece Cookware Sets

I bought this set and a fry pan set from Ecolution and came away neither impressed or unimpressed. These are middle of the road in quality and manufacture. They are attractive, but don't appear to be built to handle serious kitchen uses, they're on a par with the products sold in the average supermarket. As with the pan set I bought, some of the handles were off and they and their screws were loose in the box, so be careful to check the box before discarding it and make sure you aren't discarding a handle screw. The lids fit well, and being clear make it easy to see what you're cooking. On the whole, I don't think I would purchase this brand again, but they might be right for others.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program 2012 Year End Update: I continue to use and appreciate both the Breville food processor and the Cuisinart. I do reach for the Cuisinart more frequently than the Breville but that is mainly because I use it to make some sort of dough on an almost daily basis. Please see the comments section of this review for a discussion of the cheese grating issues and the resolution for the Breville Food Processor. (Kudos to the company for resolving this issue.) Also please note, I have added a Cleaning section to this review based on issues with the Cuisinart food processor lid.

Update:

Cuisinart After 4 months of regular use I have to say that this has become my "go to" machine. I typically need to make some sort of dough with my meals and so I use the large bowl for my dough and then the smaller bowls for slicing and dicing. My only complaints about this machine are that sometimes there is spill over from the smaller bowls to the larger bowls when processing the food and I have to keep a hand on the machine when kneading larger amounts of dough because it gets to rumbling and grumbling all over the counter.

Breville After repeated attempts at dough making with the Breville, I have concluded that it is simply not cut out for that sort of work. When I am making vegetable stock and need to chop up a lot of vegetables I do go with this machine because it is an absolute beast. I also like the french fry disc. I have also used the emulsifying disc and it is pretty effective but must be seated tight down on the base of the bowl or matter gets under the disc. My only other real complaint about this machine is that those little metal tips on the disc spindle and blades have burned me more times than I care to count, they get really hot and then tend to want to stick to the top of the lid when you pull it off.

After putting up with a prehistoric GE 7 cup food processor for decades I finally decided to empty my wallet and buy a 14 cup Cuisinart Elite Collection food processor* Cuisinart FP-14DC Elite Collection 14-Cup Food Processor, Die Cast. Then, a week later I was given the opportunity to review this food processor. Can you say "holiday time heaven"? I put both machines through their paces cooking Thanksgiving Dinner and have continued to use them on an almost daily basis to do everything from simple slice and dice to whip, puree and knead. They are both fine food processors, excelling in different areas. Here is a back-to-back comparison.

Appearance:

Breville This is a beautiful machine, being sleek silver and coal black. The lid is a slide lock system and has a very wide feeding chute and a large food pusher with a smaller round pusher, (the small pusher is calibrated and can be used for measuring); the unit can run with the small pusher out but stops if the larger pusher is removed. (And starts right back up if it is put in quite the shock if you forgot you had the machine running when you took it out.)

Cuisinart This is a very attractive unit but is a bit boxier than the Breville and not as expensive looking. The lid snaps on to the unit when two small buttons are pushed in on the large work bowl. There is a wide feeding chute with a smaller chute inset. And it comes with a retractable cord that can be extended a little or a lot.

I really love certain aspects of both machines. The Breville really is a beauty; I like the measurement feature on the small food pusher and the fact that the large pusher is closed in at the bottom, so food does not get in the open part of the pusher when you use it. I am not crazy about the roundness of the small pusher though; functionally it is much less practical. I also love the retractable cord on the Cuisinart.

Accessories:

Breville Three Blades (Micro-serrated S blade, Dough blade and Mini processing blade), 5 discs (Adjustable Slicing Disc, Shredding and Grating Disc, Julienne Disc, Emulsifying Disc and French Fry and Vegetable Stick Disc), One Mini Bowl, a disc spindle, small brush and spatula, instruction booklet (with a few recipes) and storage container. (Note: the blades have metal tips and can get quite hot after processing so mind your hands when reaching into the bowls!) All bowls and attachments are BPA free.

Cuisinart Three Blades (Small Chopping/Mixing Blade, Large Chopping/Mixing Blade and Dough Blade.) Two discs (Adjustable Slicing Disc and Reversible Shredding Disc.), two smaller bowls with pour spouts, Stem Adapter, Spatula, Cleaning Tool and instructional DVD with recipes and spiral bound instruction manual with recipes. Accessory Storage Case.

The Breville obviously has a greater number of accessories and the storage container is much higher quality than the Cuisinart. The Cuisinart container is a two level unit and the bottom drawer is clumsy to pull out and push in. On the positive side, only the Cuisinart container has a safety lock to keep little hands out. The Breville brush and spatula are also better quality than the Cuisinart. That said, the instructional booklet from Cuisinart is far superior to Brevilles both in construction and content and the additional DVD is a godsend for those who are either visual or auditory learners. It is very helpful to be able to actually see someone use the food processor. Also, certain of the Breville accessories must be washed by hand.

Warranty:

Breville One year limited warranty on unit. Twenty-Five year induction motor warranty.

Cuisinart Three year limited warranty on unit. Twenty-year motor warranty.

Controls:

Breville The unit has three button controls; Power Off, Start/Pause and Pulse. It also has an LCD display with a count up or count down timer.

Cuisinart -. The unit has four buttons: On, Off, Dough and Pulse.

I love the LCD display and counter feature on the Breville. As for the Cuisinart, the dough cycle is almost a must have for me since one of the primary reasons I wanted a good-sized food processor was because I am a baker. (It is not my profession but is one of my passions.)

Motor:

Breville 1200-watt induction motor

Cuisinart 1000-watt peak power induction motor

Slicing and Shredding:

Breville Shredding the machine shines here. Shredded cheeses** are uniformly shredded with minimal powdering and there is quite a difference between fine and course shreds when the blade is turned. Slicing simply excellent. I made a dessert that called for very finely sliced apples and I could not have asked for a more beautiful result.

Cuisinart Shredding This unit isn't quite as good at shredding as the Breville. There is very little difference between the fine and medium shred on cheese and quite a bit of the cheese powders. (Not an issue for cooking but one if it is being plated.) Slicing Very good results here too. Not quite as uniformly sliced as the Breville but close enough.

Chopping:

Breville The top performer. You just have to be careful to keep the processing time down or you end up with grated not chopped!

Cuisinart Does a very good job but isn't quite the powerhouse the Breville unit has proven to be.

Kneading:

Breville Oh dear, I am afraid I haven't had the best luck here. The machine is simply too powerful and your poor dough is easily beaten. I have tried several batches using this unit at the same time as the Cusinart and have never been able to get the same quality result. They really need to add a dough button to the controls.

Cuisinart Wow, fantastic results! Makes bread so light you can't tell the difference between that kneaded in the food processor and kneaded by hand!

I made a double batch of baguette dough. I hand kneaded one third and put one third in each of the food processors. I kneaded the dough in the food processors until it formed a shaggy ball and then finished kneading by hand. The dough in the Breville was simply tough and even with much attention never recovered from the initial processing. The dough in the Cuisinart was easy to work with and felt "just right". When the three loaves were (blind) tasted side-by-side the family was split over whether the hand kneaded dough or the Cuisinart kneaded dough had the best texture and taste. All thought the Breville kneaded dough was on the tough side and a bit tasteless.

Cleaning:

Breville the machine must be hand washed. Cleanup is a breeze and there are no issues with food being trapped in the lid seal.

Cuisinart I am very unhappy with the lid and seal is designed on this machine. I have to pick food out of the seal and between the seal and the lid most every time I use the machine. I also am having an issue with mold growing on the top of the seal where it is encased in plastic and unreachable for manual cleaning. I have been soaking the lid in a vinegar solution to deal with this but it is simply unacceptable to have these sorts of issues with a machine that is so expensive. The food processor is top rack dishwasher safe but I would give some thought to putting the blades and slicing/shredding discs in your dishwasher.

Overall impression:

Breville this is a very fine, beautiful machine. If you are leaving it out on the counter and use it mainly for slicing, shredding, chopping, I highly recommend investing in this unit. That said; if you like to work with dough, consider investing in the Cuisinart.

Cuisinart Until I had the cleaning issues with the lid on this machine I thought that for the price this unit was a tough one to beat. Now I am not so sure. I very much appreciate and enjoy using the machine but am completely put off by the fact that I have to actively watch for and address mold forming in the seal area of the machine. I recently picked up The Best Bread Ever: Great Homemade Bread Using your Food Processor and am going to work on using it with the Breville after the first of the year. If I can figure out how to make a great dough using this machine then the Cuisinart will be relegated to the back shelf.

*I had a watch on it on camelcamelcamel and there was a price dip.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Breville Sous Chef is a powerful food processor. It has a 1200 watt motor, a size found in many restaurant food processors. My son-in-law has been a kitchen manager at several restaurants. He said this is very similar to the Hobart food processors they used to chop a case of onions at one time. He was impressed with the 25 year warranty on the motor. He did say they would have to replace the bowl every couple of years in the restaurant from running it through the dishwasher. Breville did say in the instruction book to not use the dishwasher regularly on the bowl, so that sounds like the restaurant's experience with theirs.

Breville has included several safety features in their machine. It will not turn on if the bowl, lid, and large shoot pusher are not in place. They have a finger hole on the plug to help you remove it safely from the outlet. The cord is also retractable for storage. The instructions frequently remind you to be careful with the blades and slicing discs. They recommend washing by hand and not leaving them in water to soak. A brush is included to help with getting food out of them safely. They have included a storage box to keep the blades and discs in a safe place. It locks and can be stored on its side.

One of the discs is a variable slicing disc. It can be set to 24 different thicknesses. There is a storage position which is a safety feature and will also protect the blade. I have seen an adjustable blade in a top of the line Cuisinart, but not in lower priced processors. This also has an emulsifying disc that is for whipping eggs and things like that. I have never seen this in another processor. The powerful motor probably is why this one has this disc and others don't. There are all of the other usual discs and blades included dough, French fry, chopping, etc. There is also a timer that will either count up or down. When you are first working on a recipe, you can have it count up to determine how long to process. Once that has been determined, you can then use that information to program it to count down the correct amount of time and shut off when time is up.

The 16 cup bowl is huge. It is larger than many other processors and the large shoot is much bigger than most. That allows you to put in whole potatoes to make 5 inch fries. It also includes a 2.5 cup bowl for those times (such as mincing garlic) when the large bowl is just too big. There is a small S blade for the small bowl. When you are positioning the slicing discs in the large bowl, be sure the slicing blade is at 12 o'clock. You don't want it directly below the shoot. If you are looking for a heavy duty processor that has thought of everything, this should do the trick. There is a 1 year replacement warranty and it is 17.75" high X 8" wide X 10.25" deep.

Best Deals for Breville Sous Chef Food Processor

I love the features of this food processor. I was replacing a Black and Decker unit I picked up at Walmart that was about ten years old, so the step up to this model was more of a leap. The two bowls (the big one is huge, while the little one is perfect for tiny jobs), the giant chute, and the slicing blade that changes the width of a slice with a simple twist, are all favorite features of mine. I also like the storage case, the look of the machine(the base is easy to keep clean), and the way the large bowl has no hole through which contents can spill.

BUT, there are drawbacks, and a few of these would be enough to have me looking at alternative models were I to shop for a processor in the future.

First, and most troublesome (even dangerous), is that the metal spindle at the top of the blade attachments gets HOT. I mean burn-your-hand when you acccidentally touch it, hot. And you can't help but touch it. If you run the unit for more than a couple of minutes, the powerful machine will create enough heat to sizzle any flesh that touches that little metal part. When you take any blades out (which, inevitably you will) after processing your food, you can't really help but touch that part. It stays hot for quite a while, too. I shouldn't have to use a hot pad when removing blades after processing. I understand that this part is durable because it is metal, and I am all for durability, but seriously, this is horrible engineering. On the top of the lid, there's also a metal part that makes contact with that spindle, and it gets very hot as well. Both have burned my hand.

My second complaint is the whine the machine makes sometimes. It was so loud, my husband ran to the kitchen to turn the unit off because he was worried that it was self-destructing. I was processing a liquid, so it shouldn't have been working too hard. I still don't know why it makes that sound on occasion. Yesterday it did it while I was making pesto in the small bowl.

My third complaint has to do with the shredding feature. One of the reasons I bought this machine to replace my old cheapy one is for grating cheese. We are particular about the type of cheese we eat, and it doesn't come commercially grated, so I have to grate all of our cheese. The old machine I used would leave behind a sizable hunk of cheese that didn't come into contact with the grating blade because of a gap between the lid and the blade. This unit also leaves a hunk (it's a smaller piece than the Black and Decker left behind), but when the last chunk does finally fall past the chute, a tremendous cracking sound is made as the power of the machine shoves the piece of cheese around instead of holding it still as the last bit is shredded. I suppose it would be difficult to make the gap between the lid and the top of the shredding blade much smaller, but it would help prevent that whacking sound (which I fear is going to destroy a plastic piece sooner rather than later) from happening, while also solving the problem of the un-shredded cheese hunk problem.

Fourth, the pusher piece (the large chute one) is not dishwasher safe. If you put it in your dishwasher by mistake (as helpful husbands are prone to do), it will emerge with water trapped inside. Shaking that water out by hand to prevent a mildew problem is a wonderful upper body workout. Hand-washing is not a big deal if you've just shredded carrots, but it would be nice to be able to put it through the dishwasher after something oily has been processed.

Also, there is a small area on the small-bowl blade that seems to be rusting. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to see that. It's a small spot, but I noticed it after only my third or fourth use of the machine.

It is a beautiful unit. It looks lovely on my counter, and I use it several times a week to slice veggies, mix muffin batter, and chop nuts. But frying my hand tonight prompted me to write a review I had no intentions of writing so others looking at this very expensive processor would have all of the information they might want to make an informed decision.

Honest reviews on Breville Sous Chef Food Processor

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Breville BFP800XL looks stylish on the kitchen counter but serious home chefs can rejoice that the sleek looks are just the icing on the cake (if you'll forgive the pun). The 1200 watt induction motor makes kneading even stiff doughs a snap. That's probably the reason why there is no separate dough cycle like certain other food processors have.

The wide-feed tube is really large at 5.5", super-handy for slicing large batches of food quickly.

As a mom, I am thrilled that all parts that come into contact with food are BPA-free. The larger bowl has a capacity of 12 cups liquid or 16 cups dry. The nested mini bowl has a capacity of 2.5 cups. A nice feature is that the bowls have both metric and Imperial measurements. The bowls are safe to wash in the top rack of a dishwasher; however, handwashing is recommended to prolong the bowl's life. I found cleanup by hand to be super-easy.

The locking accessory storage case is another great feature of this machine. The included discs are the large S-blade, the mini S-blade, a reversible shredder, a julienne disc, a French fry disc, an emulsifying disc handy for whipping cream or egg whites, and a slicer disc that has 24 settings (0.3 mm to 8 mm). A big plus is that the discs do not have any finger holes so no issues with large chunks falling through the holes into the shreds/slices.

For those interested in the dimensions of the machine, here are my measurements:

Height with bowls, no lid = 12.5"

Height with bowls and lid = 17.5"

Front to back: 11"

Side to side: 8"

Weight" 19 lbs (this baby is sturdy!)

The one caveat I have about the machine is that the user has to really make sure that the lid and the feed chute are locked into place exactly so or else the machine won't start. I guess that's a safety feature but it made for some frustration on my part the second time I used the machine. I kept getting an error message and it took my visiting mother-in-law to help me figure out what I was doing wrong. Once I got it figured out, however, the Breville BFP800XL worked like a dream. If my old el cheapo Sunbeam food processor is a Kia, this Breville is a Mercedes. Highly recommended!

Update: As time goes on, I love this machine more and more! I find myself using it on a daily basis, whereas I rarely used to pull out my old Sunbeam food processor. I actually find myself disappointed when I CAN'T use it and have to go with my blender or hand-mixer for something.

Let me quote the owner's manual for the Breville BFP800XL Sous Chef food processor (page 5, upper left hand corner):

"Do not process cheese in the product. Use a hand held cheese grater for grating cheese. Processing cheese in the appliance will cause damage to plastic parts and will void your warranty."

The story about it is all here:The short story is that AFTER releasing the food processor, Breville tested it and found that aggressively shredding a large wedge of Parmesan cheese can cause the machine to seize or push the shredding disc off balance. They immediately changed their manual to include the warning about voiding the warranty. They also began their redesign for the BFP800XL/A version to fix the problem, available in January 2013. What they didn't do was include a statement about the coming fix for the problem in the packaging of the present model.

I had no idea there was a problem when I bought the food processor the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, to be given as a Christmas gift. Imagine my dismay when my wife open this gift and read that statement in the owner's manual.

Owners of the BFP800XL can contact Breville to get a new shredding disc and lid to correct the problem.

Signature Housewares Sorrento 90-Ounce Medium Mixing Bowl, Ruby is a decent product. Pricey for what you get in stoneware. Heavy, freezer to oven to table stuff. Too bad you have to buy by piece rather than complete set.

I love this bowl although it did have a small chip. I did not what to do about the chip and then decided not to mess around with returning it for such a small chip.
