I had a Le Crueset whistling kettle with a broken stopper. I looked all over for a replacement but couldn't find one. This item looked similar in size, but I couldn't find dimensions posted anywhere. It's slightly smaller than my original, but fits well enough to whistle. In case you have the same problem with a slightly different kettle, here are the relevant dimensions. It is 3/4" in diameter and sinks 15/16" into the kettle. The widest point of the stopper (not counting the bird) is slightly larger than 7/8" in diameter.

I bought this for my white Le Creuset kettle and it works! The fit is functional, though less than perfectly snug--if I could find a little rubber washer of the correct size then it would be perfect. I worry a little that the little metal friction wires it uses to keep it secured in will damage the spout insides after a while, I'm planning on bending them so they're a little less taught and easier to go in and out.

Amazingly, you can remove the whistler with your hands without getting burned, as long as you catch it soon after it starts whistling and you turn off the gas or remove it from heat first so that the steam isn't coming out! The wings and tail make a perfect grip, and it hasn't been hot yet--just don't put your hands in a stream of hot steam! Also, the whistle can be balanced upside down on the wings and tail while you pour your tea, if you have a flat surface. (You probably don't care, but I don't want the 'inside' part to touch my stove.)

If this were a whistle for Le Creuset, I'd give it 4 stars, but it gets 5 since it's beautiful, functional, and so well made that it works well even for the wrong kettle!

I had initially written a not-too-happy review here; I ordered the whistle to replace a melted/useless one for a Le Creuset kettle, and another review suggested it would fit. That first whistle that arrived did fit -but didn't whistle! When I went to return it, the vendor immediately instead sent out a replacement, free of charge. The replacement *does* whistle. It's not an incredible, shrill whistle that will beckon me from the other side of the house, unfortunately, but it works. And I was very pleased with the service -communication was fast and friendly, and the remedy was immediate. If the replacement had still not worked, I've got no doubt they'd have courteously accepted the return.

The black bird looks so great on the kettle but the replacement is hard to attach in the spout. I have to maneuver the metal side prongs to put it into the spout. The most disappointing is that the bird does not whistle. It only steams. I am now considering a different kettle.

Several months ago I ordered the round Staub 4 qt. pot with 4 mini ceramic cocottes for myself in green, and I use the 4 qt. pot several times a week. I bake bread in it and get an even, luscious crust every time. I use it for stews and soups and pasta sauces. I wash the pot by hand, dry it immediately and put it away to avoid an accident; however, the enamel is thick and even. The textured, black enamel interior is easy to clean, as is the exterior. The bottom heats evenly without spots sticking and scorching. The heavy mass of the pot allows me to turn down the heat and maintain an even cooking temperature on the stovetop. It's a versatile size and shape and I love the color. When I saw what a wonderful quality this pot was, I ordered a set in blue for my daughter, who is delighted with them. I also ordered a larger round pot for my son and a larger oval one for me for roasting chicken and other meats. If you want an easy to clean cast iron pot that you will use over and over and that will retain its enamel finish, then Staub is the one for you.

I love to bake but lack the artistic ability to decorate fancy cakes. Nordic Ware comes to my rescue with fabulous bundt pans that turn tasty cakes into centerpieces. The star pan is perfect for Christmas (I make chocolate peppermint cakes), July 4 (just put two red, white and blueberry cakes in the freezer), or any time you want to make someone feel like a star. As long as I spray the pan thoroughly to grease it (Baker's Joy is the best), and let the cake cool in the pan for fifteen minutes after baking, everything works perfectly; and the pan is so easy to clean. And it's hard not to love a cake that shines best with just a dusting of powdered sugar! Nothing could be easier, but people react as though I cut the star shape by hand.

Although I'm not old, I have mild arthritis, so it's great to find something that is convenient and cute in the kitchen.

I love it because it's lightweight, I can skip reaching down to get the strainer out of the cabinet or reaching up to get the liquid measuring cup, and the handle is easy to hold onto.

The extra height seems to make it easier to keep pasta boiling without it going over, too. Or maybe it's because of the good heat conductivity.

I'm not sure if it might get hard to clean inside the lid in the crevice where the glass meets the metal band with the straining holes. We've had ours about a month, and used it at least a dozen times, and it doesn't seem to be a problem, but we mostly cook pasta, rice and vegetables in it.

I didn't realize that I would really appreciate the glass lid, since I've never had one before and my cooking experience is limited. It's great for seeing how much moisture is left in the rice and to see if things are still simmering or about to boil over.

***Update 07 Nov 2007***

Still a 5-star product in my book! There is no hint of accumulation of yuck in any cracks or crevices. The lid is crystal clear and not scratched or chipped. Both the lid and pot handles are still firmly attached, nothing is loosening or going wobbly.

My grandma has been using the same pans for 50 years and they still look brand new. I think I'll be following in her footsteps with my Krona pots and pans! Very cool!

I had been looking everywhere for a pot like this. My son lives in Germany and has one almost like it (without lid). It is used every day. I tried to find one in Germany, and so far have brought 2 home. Neither have been exactly what I wanted. I have also looked for this in many department and kitchen stores no luck. I found the same Multi-Pot on another web site without the lid and at twice the price before I found this one. (I ordered 2 from that site because I was so excited). When I found this one on the Amazon site, I ordered 2 more, then I ordered another 2 for wedding presents. This is a stainless steel pot with a bottom that distributes the heat evenly so you don't get the hot-spotting that can occur with just stainless steel. The pot is a good weight and the handle is sturdy and does not wobble when the pot is filled with water a problem I encountered with one of my German pots. I use the pot to heat up water, make sauces, hard or soft cook eggs, cook vegetables, and for many other things. The more I use this pot, the better I like it. The straining lid was an added bonus. I do clean the pot and lid by hand, and do notice that water sometimes stands under the hardware of the handle, taking a while for the lid to dry. Aside from that, this is really a neat little pot and, I keep finding new uses for it every day. Measuring lines are etched on the inside of the pot. Try it you really can't lose at this price.

You know those packets of premixed noodles/pasta/rice that say measure two cups water add 1/2 cup milk etc? This pot allows you to measure while pouring the ingredients in as it has measure markings on the inside. It is bigger than it looks. It can easily hold two to three of those Lipton noodle packets.

This is one of those items that you never knew existed. But once you discover it, you cant do without it. If you cook a lot of vegetables or pasta in regular pmots you need one of these pots. It makes life so much easier. Everything works well. The pot is the right weight and balance. The handle stays relatively cool. The lid fits perfectly.

As far as cooking things like pasta this pot is excellent. Its much simpler to take this pot to the sink and pour out the water through the small holes in the lid and leave the pasta in the pot. It'll make you wonder why you ever put a pasta strainer in the sink, dump scalding hot water/pasta into it, get a bunch of steam in your face,etc.

EDIT: The above was true of the older pot. The new pot is totally different and far inferior to the old precision made pot. The new one is made in China, and is substandard in all ways. The lid doesnt fit well, the lid in the old model fit snugly and precisely. The Chinese made one has the lid rattling around like any old cheap pot. Whats the point of strainer holes if the water comes streaming out even if you dont have the strainer holes opened?

My pot even had dark unsightly solder marks in the inside of the pot! Wait did I buy a $10 el cheapo Chinese pot without knowing? No I bought a $35 supposedly premium pot and this is what I get?

I'm tempted to sue for bait and switch this is corporate gamesmanship at its worst.

I encourage no one support this crummy corporation or buy their substandard cookware. If you have past experience with their cookware, these days are over they've totally sold out and only sell shoddy Chinese junk now.

I've had the pot for about a month or so. I've used it about 4 or 5 times. It's very classy looking...a nice brushed metal and stands firm and the lid is secure. I make sure to wash it after every use. I wonder if I let it air dry if it would begin to spot. I've been using it to make family sized mac and cheese and other pasta dishes...The cup level indicators on the side are a nice touch. The holes on the side of the lid are effective to use as a strainer, however, if cooking pasta, you'll need to use another regular old strainer as well, b/c it doesn't get all the water out....it just can't, unless you sat there for like 20 minutes...I highly recommend this product b/c it doesn't take up alot of space, holds 8 cups of water, looks great, and is inexpensive...

Like almost everyone who buys this kind of implement, I have many examples of quality cutlery including Wusthof, Henckels, Shun, and Kyocera as well as assorted Chinese and German examples. As this was a birthday present for myself, I wanted something really special. I was first attracted to the Ken Onion Santoku and then to the Shun Premier 8 inch chef's knife. The Ken Onion design is obviously beautiful, but I found its balance awkward and its handle surprisingly small and uncomfortable. It came down to the Premier Chef's Knife and the Premier Santoku. It was a very close call, but I found the santoku to have a slightly better balance. The hammered finish on top of the blade is not just attractive, it effectively releases thin slices from the side of the blade as you work. The handle is also very distinctive and beautiful, slightly bulkier and more contoured than the Classic Shun and providing excellent comfort and control.

In my judgment, the Premier Shun santoku is just about a perfect chef's knife. Is beautifully made for practical use. As a bonus it is simply beautiful to look at. I have plans already to buy a slicing knife in the Premier line.

The Shun Premier Santoku Knife is a great knife. It is well built and very high in quality. I bought it to thinly slice items like onions--and it works well. I can make near paper thin slices that fall right off the knife. It is exceptionally sharp, which for me is great. My wife, however, nearly cut the end of her finger off because she didn't give this knife the proper respect. So, like all great knives, you need to be careful.

BOTTOM LINE

This knife is made with the similar technique as traditional samurai swords. After months of moderate use on the toughest items, my Shun Premier Santoku hasn't dulled, chipped, scratched, or otherwise marred its initial perfect finish. I know what I want daily in the kitchen and by my side in the Zombie apocalypse. However, consider looking for a better price elsewhere.

SHARPNESS AND STRENGTH

I use my Shun Santoku to debone poultry, and it cuts through skin, muscle, and ligaments with ease. I also use it on harder to cut things, such as pineapple, which I would normally use a serrated knife for. Cutting through the outside of a pineapple is like cutting through wood, and this does it with only gentle application of force no sawing required. After months of use on only the touch stuff (I use different knives for pairing, etc), this knife still hasn't dulled noticeably.

BEAUTY

This knife is a thing of beauty it has a beautiful wooden finish on the handle, and the knife has this pretty blotted ink look, referred to in the description as Damascus. I love to show off my $160 knife to all of my friends.

PRICE

Surprisingly, the price on Amazon is not the best price I've seen for the blade. You may want to check your local high-end home-goods or kitchen-goods store like Crate and Barrel. I received mine as a gift, so I don't know where my sister bought it, but I've seen it for as low as $160 or possibly even $150. Still, I would consider ordering from Amazon, simply because shipping to my door is so convenient.

SHARPENING

Shun allows you to sharpen their knives easily by sending it into a discounted, professional service center for professional sharpening and restoration. The price is cheap (25% off of $3 per inch of sharpening). Just google "Shun Sharpening."

I won't risk sharpening my knife at home because I don't know how to properly use a whetstone. I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener for use on my cheaper knives, but the instructions on the Shun recommend you don't use that kind of sharpener, since this knife is sharpened to a different degree than European knives.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

I'm so impressed with my knife's ability to cut through poultry, ligaments and all, that I'm already planning on how to adapt my knife for the zombie apocalypse. Considering this thing is made like a samurai sword, I'm confident I'll be more well-equipped than my regular knife wielding buddies when we're out of bullets and the zombies are inevitably bearing down upon us.

First off, let me start by giving a little background on myself. I am a chef by hobby and a tech guy by trade. I did extensive research into German or Japanese knives and I am very glad I went Japanese! This knife is AMAZING! It is extremely sharp, right out of the package. For the 4th of July I made my first gumbo which took A LOT of slicing and chopping. This knife glided through everything I threw at it. I am in love. This knife will be an heirloom I will pass on to my children.

I also highly suggest getting the Shun honing stone because it has a guide that helps with honing it. The Shun knives are angled at a 16 degree edge where most other knives are at a 22.

After reviewing a few different youtube unboxings I figured out why this item is on sale for 99. All videos on youtube show the knife arriving in either a bamboo or cardboard box with felt or foam lining. To save money the company is selling the knives cheaper using a simple cardboard box and placing a plastic sleeve over the blade. The sleeve will scratch your blade if you do not remove it carefully or if you insert the knife back into the sleeve. The sleeve is extremely tight and abrasive against the knifes fine shiny finish. If you are getting as a gift do not take it out and gaze at its beauty and place it back in the sleeve. Once the sleeve is off get rid of it. As for the knifes review read other users posts as for they are correct. This knife is beautiful and performs amazingly. I posted a photo on the knife and sleeve that came in the box.

This is a great thing to have. With a chestnut tree a few blocks away, it's quite nice to have the option of roasting them the old fashioned way (and with some novello). With the long handle, you can use it over a real open fire or you can use it on a stovetop or grill, although you'll have to prop up the handle in that case.

It's a great pan looks nice and of good quality.

The only thing I don't completely love is the handle. Although strong enough, it is long and thin and I just don't like how it looks as much as the rest of the pan. It's sort of shiny black with some lighter spots. Really not a deal breaker, but I'm just pointing it out. Now, what would really be awesome is if it had an easily interchangeable short handle so you could really use this perfectly on any occasion. But it is riveted on very sturdily (which is a positive under most circumstances).

About a year ago I bought your orange tea pot. Yesterday I was making a pot of tea and went to use the restroom. When I came back to the kitchen, my tea pot was on fire. After I put out the flames, i opened the tea pot to see that it still was full of water. The paint itself had set on fire. The tea pot was cheap and I guess you get what you pay for. I was lucky my kitchen didn't set on fire. Thankfully nothing was harmed but the tea pot. Selling these items is both dangerous and irresponsible. Feel free to contact me.

I bought one of these for the cottage, because I didn't want to spend much, wanted a splash of color, and didn't need a large kettle at camp. I love it and plan get one for home as well to replace my aging kettle. (I really admire the classic teapot shape of this. Very nice! The larger size in this line is humdrum in comparison.)

I assumed this would be too small for me, but I boil water (daily) to make either tea or French press coffee. Obviously, this is large enough for the tea (including tea for two or three)... the pleasant surprise is that it's large enough for the French press as well (a 35-oz Frieling). Well, of course because a quart is 32 oz, but I just didn't do the math before and thought this kettle would be "too small". Now instead I'm wondering why did I ever think I needed a larger kettle?

Yes, there is no whistle. But with the smaller size, maybe you'll put less water in it and won't feel the need to walk away. (This seems to be true for me. Again, I've always had a larger kettle... but why did I fill it as much as I did when just making one cup of tea?)

I haven't had any problems with the handle. But yes, keep it straight up and don't let it touch the enamel when hot.

Update, a few months later: I did get a second kettle, and while I'm happy I did, the color is not consistent, which is a disappointment. Both kettles are blue; the first one was the bright blue I was expecting; the second one is a duller/grayer shade... though the lid is a brighter shade. (Yes, I am particular about colors. :-)

But I'm very glad for the functionality... my older larger kettle had a lousy pour, requiring it to be at nearly a 90-degree angle to get the last of the water out. This one pours so nicely, it's really a pleasure. Sounds silly, but true!

Notes (after seeing other's reviews):

1. I don't bother to empty this out and can't see that this is causing a problem.

2. You should never put ANYTHING enameled in the dishwasher. The reason is that the dishwasher is very hot and the metal and the enamel will expand at different rates and the result of that is that the enamel will chip. I have never felt a need to put a kettle in the dishwasher, but if that's something you want to do, you probably want stainless.

This tea kettle was highly disappointing, and, for me, unusable. Granted it's "cute". But, besides not being dish-washer safe, it contains the warning not to leave water resting in it, or it may rust. For the purpose of anyone who wants to have warm water immediately available for boiling, this is unacceptable. Also, the spout had exposed steel, and seemed extremely liable to rusting.

I can't believe this product is still on the market. As others have mentioned, the handle gets hot and has to be handled with a pot holder. That was the first annoyance.

But, that was minor in the scheme of things, because ironically I found out within a week that it's not heat-resistant. We put water on to boil, and left the handle too close to the 'down' position, and the handle MELTED. Thank goodness we heard a weird noise in the kitchen and discovered it before it started an actual fire.

Don't buy this product. It's that simple.

This pan is not quite as heavy as I like, but it works very well in the kitchen. It distributes heat well, the non-stick surface is sturdy (for such coatings--it still wears out), and the rounded inner surface (with no rivets) makes it very convenient to move the food. While many good pans have very sturdy handle attachments using rivets, the rivets make the food catch or stick--this pan avoids this problem.

This frying pan replaced my old, chipped, rusting out(embarassed to say that, but you don't know me, anyway)and it even frys food but mostly it looks great. What can you say about a frying pan? I wouldn't have even given this reponse if I hadn't had a few glasses of wine. Seriously, it is a quality pan without paying a fortune. I just now found out Ultrex cookware was recalled years ago because it is dangerous.The coating can separate from the pan and be forcefully propelled from the pan. I had no idea until now. I bought two sets from HSN and they never notified the customers that the product was dangerous. The Ultrex company went out of business as soon as they realized the product was unsafe so that they would not have to cover the lifetime warranty. As usual, HSN claims no responsibility for endangering lives. Furthermore, it is illegal to resell a recalled product. Please do not buy or use this product.

I'm a fan of multiclad cookware, the kind that takes heat conductive aluminum and surrounds it with easy to maintain stainless steel. This cookware is beautiful, with stunning luster, and solidly constructed. It goes from oven to table with no problems, and looks stunning. The lids fit nicely, and the curved lip allows for pouring that resists clinging to the side of the pot. They are very very easy to maintain. Personally, I hand wash all my high end cookware, so I cannot comment on whether it's dishwasher safe. If you do hand wash (and you should....just sayin'), use Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ and a non abrasive sponge to keep that amazing shine. Looks great hanging from the pot rack!

I give the product 5 stars, for it's durability, construction, looks, and ease of cleaning. I love this Cuisinart Line and highly recommend it.

I don't see the spotting that others have reported. A bit of white lime but that is not the fault of the cookware. Noticed that these are bit more expensive than other sets. Perhaps they are of a better quality. So far I'm very happy with them.

I was worried about sticking and the bottoms turning yucky. All of the teflon pans I have have darker stained bottoms but these pans after a few months of use still look brand new. I have had a few things stick but after soaking for 5 minutes with a cap full of vinegar it comes right off. I wish I had made the switch years ago!

This is nicer than what I used cooking in a restaurant kitchen, at a reasonable price. This set still looks almost new after after several years, and I expect it to last the rest of my lifetime. The secret is that I use Barkeep's Friend to polish off burned-on crap every few months, to keep that nearly-new look. Try that with nonstick cookware, I dare you!

Heat: these heat fast and evenly. They're not as thick as All Clad, but I like this because it makes them more responsive to heat.

Durability: this things are built to last, they take a beating and keep on going. I've even used one to hammer nails, in a pinch!

Finish: personally, I like the brushed exterior/mirrored interrior, but I will note that the mirror finish will become scratched up as you use and scrub it. However, it still makes the pan clean easily; not as easy as nonstick, but close. The finish has not showed any signs of discoloration or rusting yet. As with all stainless cookware, it will need periodic polishing.

Features: flared lip makes it easy to pour from pots, handles and balance are just about right. My only complaint is the steel lids: the handles are not *quite* tall enough to keep fingers off the hot surface, and I prefer tempered glass lids, so I can see the insides. But I'm still pretty happy with this overall.

Overall: *VERY* happy with my MultiClad Pro cookware. The 7 piece set has exactly the pieces & sizes I use and nothing I don't. Tip: use can use the bottom of the stockpot in place of a deep skillet, for satueeing. Out of this collection, I have the 5 qt, 3 qt and the large fry pan with 2 handles. These pans are great. I'm a hard cook on pans, I cook over high heat constantly. My first 3 qt and fry pan lasted me 3 1/2 yrs and I just recently bought them again. If you are a average cook, these pans will last you much longer. I don't baby my pans, I tend to abuse them, therefore I have to replace pans more often. The great thing about this 5 qt pan is the wider base and lower sides. So many 5 qt pans are high sided and have a smaller base. This is a great pan to fry bacon in, the higher than "fry pan" sides will catch more splatter. Excellent glass lids w/ this collection of pans. If you want them to stay black, don't wash in the dishwasher. Over time a "white haze" will develop and the black will turn a grayish color.

Cuisinart is a trusted brand name with good reviews so we had this item on our wedding wish list. I was really excited when we got this as a gift and the first time I used it there were no problems (handles can get hot but no big deal) A few weeks later I used the pot for the second time, ironically to make chili. I turned the heat down on the chili and placed the lid onto the pot to let it simmer. Fifteen minutes later..."POP!!!!" the lid shatters! dinner is destroyed and the trust in the Cuisinart brand is gone.

This pan is very light weight, but it is well made. It is very beautiful and I love it. I'm glad I ordered it and I ordered two more sauce pans of the same make. This dutch oven worked well in the oven and looks great to bring to a potluck.

The water and food can be heated evenly in the pot. Only thing not perfect is it can't be used on induction cooktop, as the surface of the pot is insulated.
