The Shun knives, in my opinion, are as good as they come. I have been cooking professionally for 19 years now as a certified licensed working chef. I teach culinary school and the most asked questions I get are about knives and which ones to buy. Through out most of my career I've used Messermeister knives which were great and held up for many years, but like most German knives, they don't hold their edge. The first time I held a Shun knife was at a supply store. Once I held it in my hand I had to have it. I highly encourage my students and my colleagues to give Shun knives a try for I assure them that they won't be disappointed.

This knife is fantastic. It's not only beautiful but cuts like no other. I'm a huge Global knife fan but thought I would try the Shun just for comparison. It completely met and exceeded my expectations. It's very well balanced and fit nicely in my hand. I highly recommend this knife for anyone looking for a smaller utility knife with some style.

BOTTOM LINE

Shun Premier Knives are made with the same technique as traditional samurai swords. After months of moderate use on the toughest items, my Shun Premier knives haven't dulled, chipped, scratched, or otherwise marred their initial perfect finish. I know what I want daily in the kitchen and by my side in the Zombie apocalypse. However, consider looking for a better price elsewhere.

SHARPNESS AND STRENGTH

I have used other Shun Premier knives for cutting through the toughest things, like pineapple. The outside of a pineapple is as hard as wood, and my Santoku cuts through it with only gentle application of force no sawing required. After months of use on only the tough stuff (I use different knives for pairing, poultry etc), this knife still hasn't dulled noticeably. Notice, this knife is a little small for use on pineapple, but I mention the pineapple as an example of how sharp Shun knives are generally.

BEAUTY

This knife is a thing of beauty it has a beautiful wooden finish on the handle, and the knife has this pretty blotted ink look, referred to in the description as Damascus. I love to show off my $160 knife to all of my friends.

SHARPENING

Shun allows you to sharpen their knives easily by sending it into a discounted, professional service center for professional sharpening and restoration. The price is cheap (25% off of $3 per inch of sharpening). Just google "Shun Sharpening."

I won't risk sharpening my knife at home because I don't know how to properly use a whetstone. I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener for use on my cheaper knives, but the instructions on the Shun recommend you don't use that kind of sharpener, since this knife is sharpened to a different degree than European knives.

PRICE

Surprisingly, the price on Amazon is not the best price I've seen for the blade. You may want to check your local high-end home-goods or kitchen-goods store like Crate and Barrel. Still, I would consider ordering from Amazon, simply because shipping to my door is so convenient.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

I'm so impressed with my Shun Premier Line's ability to cut through poultry, ligaments and all, that I'm already planning on how to adapt my knife for the zombie apocalypse. Considering these things are made like samurai swords, I'm confident I'll be more well-equipped than my regular knife wielding buddies when we're out of bullets and the zombies are inevitably bearing down upon us.

Honest reviews on Shun Premier Utility Knife, 6-1/2-Inch

The sharpest blade I've use. "Slides thru potatoes and slices onions with ease." Holds it's edge. Lightweight. Recently bought the paring knife.

This knife is my new best friend. After decades of cooking can dicing vegetables suddenly become fun? With this knife--YES, it cut through carrots and parsnips like butter. The short, round, small diameter handle fits my hand like no other knife I have ever used. I have now ordered the 81/2" chefs knife. I have both a Wusthof and Henckles slicing knife which are both pretty much useless so they will soon be getting the axe.

I had to use my aluminum canner on the burner of our gas grill because I have an induction range. I can once again can in my air-conditioned kitchen. I would highly recommend these plates to anyone who has an aluminum canner or aluminum pots and pans and wants to continue to use them on their induction range or cooktop. I wish I had not waited so long to purchase these!!!

Very happy with the purchase. Saved my good cookware from becoming yard sale fodder. Large diffuser works great. The small size, not so much. Requires longer cooking times at higher temps.

they are ok for induction warming not cooking, great to melt wax, will not even fry bacon or boil water, better to buy pans that are made for induction cooking.

Let me start off by saying that my main cookware set is the Anolon Titanium set that cost $399 when we got it in 2003. I love these pans because they are heavy-duty, nonstick because of the titanium, and dishwasher safe because of the titanium. Well, I wanted to add an "everyday" sort of pan to my collection because the Anolon set is VERY heavy and takes up lots of space, so I wanted something a little ligher weight for easier handling, but still large enough to cook for larger dinner parties AND easy to clean. So we looked at 12" pans and skillets and we decided on this one, the Cuisinart Chef's Classic Non-Stick Hard Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Cover.

For what you get in this set...the 12" pan and the covered lid...you cannot beat the price for the quality. For one, it uses a "quantanium" coating for its nonstick base...this is basically a nonstick coating reinforced with titanium, so it can withstand higher temps (oven safe to 500 degrees) and is scratch resistent. I don't use metal utensils anyway, so I can't attest to this...but it has been great so far!

The nonstick is great...makes clean up easy, which is very important to me as free time is very scarce in this household! I haven't thrown the pan into the dishwasher, but the lid gets tossed in and it's been fine. The pan itself cleans so easily that just a soapy nonabrasive sponge is all it takes to get the pan to brand new condition.

The pan also heats up very evenly. I cooked sauteed chicken in the pan and every single piece was evenly cooked. The pieces on the edges of the pan was just as cooked as the ones in the middle of pan. Makes for great cooking when you don't have to fuss about repositioning the food every few minutes for even heat distribution!

I also love the short handles because I always bump into the longer skillet handles when I'm cooking up a storm and I don't bump into this pan. I can also use this on the back burners too because of the short handles. You just can't "toss" your food like you can with a skillet. Use a towel or oven mitt when you touch the handles or the lid because they do get hot...but that's fine with me anyway because I don't like getting hot grease splattered on my hands anyway!

Overall, I am very impressed with this pan, and at a fraction of the price of similar items and nowhere near the cost of my Anolon Titanium set, it's a bargain!

I would say the pan is a little lighter than the Calaphon 'Commercial' everyday pan (with no non-stick surface). However, remarkably, the 'Chef's Classic' claims to be oven safe up to 500 degrees while the Calphalon maxes out at 450 degrees. (Amazon's in-house brand, the Pinzon, only promises a paltry 350 degrees.)

The glass lid could only charitably be described as 'medium dome' and is not as high as its stainless steel counterpart.

To reviewers concerned about cleaning...no anodized aluminum pan should ever be placed in the dishwasher. If the exterior of the pan becomes spattered with cooked on food, I would say the use of a paste of baking soda or 'Barkeeper's Friend' might help. It does help that the pan will fit flat in a standard sink for easy cleanup with mild dish detergent and warm water. One key is to dry the pan immediately after washing.

With its titanium-reinforced, non-stick surface, metal utensils may be used; however, since the surface is truely non-stick, why take the chance of gouges?

The cast steel, Cuisinart embossed handles are smaller than those on other 'Chef's Classic' pans, but should not present a problem as long as the cook does not overfill the pan.

All-in-all, this remains an amazing 'buy' at less than $25.

Talk about potato woes. Mine were sticking to the pan, ripping, smooshing against my spatula. I tried home fries on the stovetop, roasted potatoes in the oven. Nothing worked and I was getting so frustrated.

I got this pan yesterday and had to use it right away, for supper. I cut red new potatoes in half and tossed them with olive oil, herbs, salt and pepper. I poured the potatoes into the pan and put them into the oven at 380 F. After 30 minutes I went to turn them and when I pulled the pan out, the potatoes SLID around the pan. So beautiful to see. After another 30 minutes, they were donebrown, crisp along the edges, perfectly cooked.

I guess it's all about having the right pan for what you're doing. This pan turned my terrible potatoes into perfection.

Honest reviews on Cuisinart 625-30D Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 12-Inch

What we'd all love in a 12-inch pan: (1) $25, (2) quality nonstick, and (3) heavy. Now pick two out of three, because that's all you're going to find. If you chose (1) and (2), then this pan could be for you.

This is a big, thin pan. Foremost, if you plop it down cold on a high flame, it will be far more likely to warp than either a heavier or a smaller-diameter pan. (So those one-star reviews that say "my pan is warped" should more honestly read "I warped my pan.") Proper technique is to let the pan heat up over moderate heat, add oil, let the oil heat, add food, adjust the flame as necessary. It even says in the literature that comes with it: do not use over high heat. But once it's hot, I've turned the heat up for stir fry without any warping.

It's an everyday pan, not an everything pan. Since it's thin, it doesn't have the thermal mass to take on a thick cut of meat. But it's useful for a wide range of properly chosen foods and techniques.

The pan has seen a couple of months' use, and it's become the most frequently used pan in the house. Heats evenly without noticeable hot spots. The nonstick surface is excellent quality, great release, tight, unmarked.

Yes, there are rivets inside, but there are rivets inside all my cookware except the cast iron and cheap stamped aluminum.

This pan has such a perfect size and shape and non-stick quality (especially for the $19.00 price) that I wanted to give five stars. But there are important flaws. Right out of the box, I could see immediately that on one half of the interior, the non-stick coating was jagged and bumpy, like it wasn't painted on smoothly or someone had scratched it up. The other side was perfectly smooth. It immediately made me suspcious and wondering if I would be eating some of the non-stick coating chemical. This is a huge issue. The pan also is very thin and light. I wasn't expecting such a flimsy pan that boasted of hard anodized material. I would have been willing to pay more money for a heavier skillet. It's the flaking non-stick material that makes me worry. Otherwise, it's an ideal roomy shape, with tall sides so food won't spill over. The two handles make it easy to fit in the sink. The coating is very non-stick. The interior looks very smooth on the one side that isn't flaking. If they improved the quality control and make it more solid and heavy, even at a higher cost, this would be a great pan. Not sure I'll use this much because of the coating issue and any potential safety issues from that. It also seems too light weight for serious sauteeing. I have other heavy pans I use for that. I will go back to Calphalon pans; I've not had problems with the non-stick on Calphalon coming off.

I have one of these for my office and literally use it 3 times a week. You are not supposed to microwave your food in the plastic/ tupperware storage things (for health reasons) and I found it wasteful to dump leftovers or soup into a paper bowl to use once and toss. I leave mine and wash mine at the office, so I don't generally use the lid. However, I found out hubby was microwaving his food in the tupperware! A big no no. I bought him this immediately and he loved it. Minor problemhe actually takes his food to work in this (no place to wash dishes at his office) so the lid was a must have. His came with one of the 3 plastic "hooks" broken off. So it's not as secure as it should be. Just a minor quality control issue. No huge issue for uswe just switched and I gave him my lidbut worth mentioning as I try to create honest and accurate reviews.

Overall, I am very pleased with the product. It heats up well and cleans easily. The plastic portion means I can easily and safely handle my dish right out of the microwave. Everyone who heats up leftovers at work and wastes paper goods or heats up the plastic should switch to this product. Well worth it.

This is THE best microwave bowl I have ever come across. The white bowl is glass so there is no worry of heating food in plastic containers. The red bowl does not get hot in the microwave so you are able to remove your food without oven mitts. The lid is made of a very good durable substance that does not wilt from the heat of the microwave like other plastic tops. I place the lid over my bowl when cooking, I don't lock it in place until I'm ready to store it in the refrigerator. It works beautifully. My food is hot in the white bowl and I can easily transfer the bowl from the kitchen to the table because the red bowl is cool. This would make a very excellent gift. I think I'm going to get a couple more just for me...soup in one, veggies in another, something like that. I highly recommend this Gourmet Microwave Cool Touch Bowl.

I was tired of trying to remove too hot to carry containers from the microwave! This works very well, in fact, I ordered a second one.

Honest reviews on Handy Gourmet JB6502 Red Cool Touch Micro Bowl, Red

We haven't used them long but so far work great. The outer bowl gets warm but not hot so easy to handle. I love the handles. The one for the thumb is very helpfull & the smaller one is a big help to remove it from the microwave. The lids work great. We just leave it up side down since we don't need to lock them into place. I bought three & one did come with a lid tab broke but since I don't use it I'll keep it as is. Had the tab not been broke I'd have given it 5 stars. I have used the bowl for ice cream & it helps keep it cold just as it helps keep hot foods warm longer.

We received these as a wedding present and couldn't be more thrilled. They are lightweight and slice right through meat like it's butter. Like most good knives, they shouldn't be put in the dishwasher, but this is truly a bargain price (if they are still on sale) and I wouldn't pass them up.

These are some of the best knives I have ever owned. They arrived very fast and in great shape. I only gave it 4 stars because the block did not match the knife set. I would have thought it would be a block for this specific set. But, not enough slots or the right size slots.

Best Deals for Wusthof Silverpoint ll 18-Piece Block Knife Set

I purchased these knives for my Dad as a replacement for the old hodgepodge of knives that have called his kitchen drawers "home" for the last decade. While I can say that to date they've only been used a few times, they have definitely shown to be worth the investment. All the knives in this set look great, were honed to a razor sharp edge and fit easily and safely in the hand. With a little TLC, I can't see why these knives wouldn't last for years to come.

While the Wusthof brand of knives is coveted by a lot of folks, what really sold me on this set was the number of steak knives that came with it. My dad entertains pretty frequently at home and thinking about the possibility of short-changing a guest by not being able to provide them with a nice steak knife would bother me. Fortunately unlike other comparable sets, this set comes with six of them, all honed to an edge as sharp as their bigger brothers. We tried them out on a few choice sirloin steaks (cooked to perfection by the way), which they cut through with barely any resistance whatsoever -just like butter.

All in all, these knives have been a pleasure to use in addition to looking great sitting in the block on the counter top. I believe that for the money these knives are worth the investment. Where else but Amazon can you buy a set of Wusthof knives for under $300?

Honest reviews on Wusthof Silverpoint ll 18-Piece Block Knife Set

the knives are great, the only thing that i did not like was that some of the knives did not correspond to the size of the slot in the block i.e. there would be a small knife in a large deep slot that is clearly for a bigger knife.

I must say the knives are nice but having a huge problem with them rusting very quickly. I live in the Caribbean and I know the climate is different but it is most frustrating to see these knives with rust. I have to clean them with steel wool every time I use them. If any one has good ideas how to prevent this please let me know.

This is the best roasting pan I have ever seen. It is HEAVY with thick enough bottom and walls. It is comparable to one made by Mauviel also with folding handles. I own a couple of items made by the ITALIAN Paderno that are sold by World Cuisine in the US, and I am absolutely impressed with their quality. For one thing they are heavy gauge stuff. I understand that they were originally made for hotels and commercial cuisines that get them heavy and rough use. So they are not as pretty as All-Clad or some of the other well known and very expensive roasting pans, but they are heavy duty, well made, durable, and absolutely functional. In my opinion you can't go wrong with these. One other thing that is an advantage is the folding handles. I cannot stand those tall fixed handles that most other brands make, especially when they are curved towards the inside of the pan; somehow they obstruct access to the pan and make it extremely difficult to store the pan. The folding handles allow easier storage. The only other info that could perhaps offer is that the handle brackets are spot welded in 6 spots each. The comparable pans made by Mauviel (also with folding handles) have rivets instead.

To correct some of the info, the 11944-40 is 40x26x9 cm or 15.7x10.2x3.5 inches according to the specs catalog found on world-cuisine.com. You can see a more extensive specs catalog on the Italian site paderno.it if you follow the English "Welcome" version of it. They make even bigger pans (bigger than any I know) and I have been able to special order another one that is the best I have ever had. This did cost me a bit more but considering the weight and the construction of it, I feel its price is justified. I also did get a Mauviel which is also a marvelous and really beautiful pan, but in the end I did get the Paderno too because it is not easy to find elsewhere the bigger sizes that Paderno makes.

This pan, like all the Cuisinart pans, is my favorite to use when I need a 12" skillet. It's a heavy-duty even-heating pan like it's "sisters and brothers"! If you already have any Chef's Classic pots or pans, the lid that fits on any pan with item number ending in 30 will fit on this pan. (Item number is on the bottom). With all the Chef's Classic pans, you usually don't have to turn the heat up as high as a cheapy pan; instead of high, use medium-high, for example. Since this does not have a non-stick coating, you'll often need oil for cooking. Here's a tip: hot pan, cold oil. Let the pan heat up before adding the oil. Also, these pans heat up FAST so watch your food! If anything gets burned-on badly, the pans just need a little soaking (maybe an hour, not overnight). Or, add water to the pan and "boil" the burned-on food off. I also use Barkeepers Friend cleaner to keep them shiny and looking new! Take note: if you've ever purchased a set of Cuisinart from a discount warehouse (i.e. Sam's Club, Cosco) there are not individual pans available that will match your set exactly. I called Cuisinart and found out that particular pan style is available only in sets from discount warehouses. BUT, the Chef's Classic line matches very closely, it's the closest match available.

Even though this pan has the "disc" of aluminum in the base rather than all the way up the sides, it heats very evenly. You can't beat the price. It's big enough to be very versatile for major frying or lighter sautéing. It's also big enough to use a grill for small to medium items.

I do miss having a lid so on those rare occasions where I needed a lid, I just covered it with some aluminum foil. Hokey, I know, but until I purchased another pan for my dishes that need simmering, that was the trick I used.

As long as you watch the heat, cleanup is not too bad. I have rarely had to scrub this pan.

Since it would be great with a lid, I gave it 4 stars. This pan really should not be sold without one.

Best Deals for Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

Like most of this line, the 12" version of this pan is an excellent pan and value, and seldom leaves my range top. The 14" however is a disappointment because its material/construction is not nearly as heavy-duty. Notably, unlike the 12" pan the 14" is NOT stamped "18/10". Another telltale is that the 14" weighs only 4 oz. more than the 12". Result: relatively lower thermal mass, less even heat distribution and retention, more hot spots and burning. In fairness, the larger diameter will put the much thinner sides farther away from most ranges flame, but I wish they'd made the base at least as heavy dutyas the 12". Caveat emptor!

Honest reviews on Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

This is a great skillet for lots of dishes from ommelet, to stir fry, to steak. I do own a couple non-stick skillets for making crepes and scrambled eggs, but this is the one I use the most. This skillet WILL NOT stick if pre-heated with low or med heat for most dishes. If I'm sauteing chicken or cooking steaks, I'd pre heat it with high heat before adding butter, then add the room temperatured meat (not frozen), then lower the heat to med-high and I'm all set for a good piece of steak. Deglazing the pan create thick, delicious sauces, something that can't be achieved with a non-stick pan. My fried eggs come out fried, and not steamed like it would with a non-stick pan. The discoloration (called heat marks) on some S/S cookware can be easily cleaned with S/S cleanser.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

I bought this pan on a special sale and it gets used almost every day. Without a non-stick surface, spray a little Pam and it cleans up very easily. Let it soak for 5 minutes and use a non-steel scrubbing pad (one side sponge, one side a mild abrasive). Steel wool will scratch the surface.

Cooks evenly on medium or low heat. Can also go into the oven.

Without the non-stick surface, stainless steel pans and pots last virtually forever and always look and feel great.

Well most reviews are just about features, not about what the products are intended to be used for once purchased, so I figured I'd take a different approach and maybe it would help someone who may be deciding to buy this slicer. When I was reading the many reviews on the multitude of slicers on Amazon I was confused as to why even slicers over $200.00 had buyers who were not satisfied. I was looking for a slicer to cut pork roll which is a fav at work and I get a roll about 6lbs and 5 inches in diameter and maybe a foot and a half long. You can't cut it by hand without getting fat and skinny edges on the same slice. This slicer however performed very well for the money. Most reviews I read said hard to clean, not enough power, sucks on cheese. Well, maybe cheese is too sticky when you cut it and pulls on the blade causing it to drag and slowing the motor down. maybe you need a commercial slicer for 300.00 or more or go sloooooooooooooooooower. I had not one bit of problem cutting, cleaning, or using this slicer to get the job done. I don't take it apart to clean, I wipe it down with soap and water after each use. Blade is still sharp as the day I bought it.i guess what I'm saying is that expectations seem to be too high for some people who purchase a slicer for under a hundred dollars. This thing is great for meats i will say. The motor seems very safe by slowing down the speed to keep your thumbs attached to your hand. i think it would be just about impossible to cut your self. I wipe the blade when it is running, with a dishcloth, and never even came close to having a scare. I imagine someone will prove me wrong and do it. We will call him lefty. Ha Ha. Well, to finish my review I will just say this is a great slicer for the price and I use it every week. If you are easily disappointed and think you should get everything when you paid next to nothing, then you probably won't be happy with whatever slicer you end up buying. Everyone else, stimulate your surplus by spending less for this quality slicer.

I'm pleased with my slicer. It works for me. I have had a slicer, slowly disintegrating, for the past 30 years, so I knew I would use it and wanted one that would last. The Continental is sturdily built, for the most part, and I expect to be able to repair age or damage myself. The movable fence that alligns the meat with the blade is held in place with a single metric phillips-head machine screw. It had gotten a bit chewed up during manufacture, so I replaced it from my convenient neighborhood hardware store. The blade is not serrated, so I will be able to sharpen it with a stone, when the day comes. Removal of significant parts for cleaning is simple, though I need a screwdriver, and in time, may need a pair of pliers. The parts clean easily enough, but I fear I will lose a couple of plastic washers eventually. Cleaning the bulk of the machine, after the removable parts have been cleaned, is awkward, but managable. The machine doesn't break down for storage, so it takes up a big chunk of my cupboard space, but by the same token it sets up fast when it's time to slice. All in all, I expect to be happy with my decision. Ask me again in fifteen years.

Best Deals for Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer

Excellent product for the price.

Instruction booklet/manual not very clear or too helpful.

Nearly broke the blade retaining screw trying to remove the blade after the first use that's why the 4-stars and not 5 need to remove screw by turning it clockwise.

Slices very thin perfectly did some cheddar cheese, smoked ham, and roast beef with no problems.

Used machine constantly for 30 minutes first time and no "burnouts" or burning smell from motor. Cleanup is easy once you remember to unscrew clockwise!

Definitely for home use, not an industrial strength machine but well fabricated and built.

Honest reviews on Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer

When I read "steel body and blade" for under 90 dollars shipping included, I thought what a wonderful deal. Well, I found quite a bit of plastic on this machine but that has not stopped it from cutting meats, breads and cheeses fairly consistently and easily. The size adjuster does not move much between slices and the blade loses very little power on dense foods. The unit has no blemishes in the finish and the whole thing is a breeze to clean. Just a fine little machine for home use.

I purchased this slicer in April 2009. It worked fine for 6 months and then the plastic gears that turn the blade completely broke. They are plastic. I then contacted the seller who in turn said I needed to contact the manufacturer. I have been in contact with the manufacturer since November 2009 and still have been able to receive a replacement slicer. They keep telling me to wait that the product is coming in on a container ship. This is a neverending battle. I will never buy another product from CEM Global again.

The wok is well made, has excellent lines and color but I was expecting it to be larger it does not hold much. It is probably one of the most attractive Le Creuset items.

This piece is not cast iron, but works wonderfully with the cast iron pots and pans. Very futuristic looking and a perfect size for serving food on the table. You can use this in the oven, but not stovetop. A finishing touch to the set.

I received four of these lovely dishes as a Christmas gift this year. They are really not large enough to use as serving pieces, except for some small side dishes perhaps. But I wanted them to use as dining vessels for stir-fry, salads, etc., and they are perfect for that! I have two of the blue and two of the red ones, and they are beautiful. The handles seem to be quite fragile, so some extra care may be needed for these pieces. My friend told me that the first shipment she received from amazon contained two dishes with broken handles. However, amazon cheerfully replaced them in plenty of time for Christmas. I know I am going to really enjoy these wok dishes!

Fox Run 14-Ounce Thermal Gravy Boat Review

Fox Run 14-Ounce Thermal Gravy Boat

This is an ok gravy boat. Doesn't hold as much gravy as I would like but what it does hold, it keeps decently hot (better than a regular ceramic gravy boat, that's for sure.) Looks a bit cheap but not SO horrible that I'd be embarrassed to use it with company. All in all, 3 stars.

We used this maybe 5 times. Inside became loose, and water collected inside the wall and we could not get it out. Not worth the money. I had one of these from years ago that lasted 10 years, I don't think they are made as well any more.

I do wish it were larger capacity, but it works well keeping the gravy nice and hot during family feasts. It works so well it got loaned and never returned oh well, kids with families of their own, right?

Nearly 10 months ago I purchased this item at the same time as another product, Cuisinart FCT22-20NS French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 8-Inch Nonstick Skillet, specifically to compare them and guide my future purchases. After extensive daily usage of both products I can share my perspective and hope it helps others. I will be comparing only the 8 inch Calphalon pan to the 8 inch Cuisinart.

The Cuisinart product is a classic pro-style pan that seemed perfect for what I was after. That said, I was drawn to the Calphalon product by the attractive pricing and decent product reviews I found here on Amazon and elsewhere on the web. I am an avid appreciator of omelettes and there is no better task to test the sticky-factor of a pan than with omelettes especially as I am a flipper, not a folder.

I found both the Cuisinart and Calphalon pans to have good feel to them. The handle design and the weight of the pans is slightly different. The Cuisinart handle arcs higher which I preferred a bit more. The slope of the sides of the pan on the Calphalon is steeper leaving a larger cooking surface area on the bottom. For an omelette flipper the Cuisinart's less dramatic slope made it easier. That said, after a couple weeks of use I could achieve the same results with either.

Both pans perform well as a non-stick surface product. Very little effort to keep things from sticking and it required little to no butter or oil to get that result from both. These surfaces on both pans seemed to perform better once "broken in" even though that's not generally a characteristic of this material.

Now for durability. I invest way too much in cooking gear to use sharp tools on them. So I stick with just plastic tipped tongs or a silicone spatulas. Period. Regardless of my efforts, both pans are showing signs of scratches on the cooking surface a very disappointing finding. The Cuisinart looks to have held off scratches much better than the Calphalon. I expect that to start affecting the non-stick capabilities in a couple years as the scratches worsen. Both items are labeled as dishwasher safe and I did take advantage of that and it worked out well. The external surface of the Calphalon is easier to care for than the stainless surface on the Cuisinart.

So, it would seem that for half the price the Calphalon performed very well against the Cuisinart. The longevity of the Cuisinart will likely be the differenciator in the long run. But since I received two pans for pretty close to the same price in the Calphalon offering it really does win my vote in the end.

I bought the set direct from Calphalon before it appeared elsewhere. The finish is wonderful, the food actually does slide from the pans. My warranty says they can be washed in the dishwasher. I like the weight, they seem to be more like the old made-in-USA Calphalon bought years ago and passed on to family as I have cut back in cooking. I needed good omelet pans (you'd be surprised how many eggs seniors eat (smile)) and these more than satisfied me. A cover I already own fits one pan and I have ordered a cover from Calphalon for the other pan. That's because I tend to use these pans for almost everything I cook, stir fries, sautees, sauces, meats, veggies, I just made BubbleNSqueak in the large pan yesterday and needed the cover for that dish to tenderize the cabbage. I recommend this set without hesitation. I am sorry I wasn't able to buy it from Amazon, I am a died in the wool customer of Amazon. I will buy more in the Unison line and it will be from Amazon.

Let me start out by saying I hate Calphalon. I've hated it from the get go, as I have issues with the whole concept of cooking on aluminum. I have been an All Clad fan for years (except that I can't say much for their black LTD finish which died). Color me stainless with a copper sandwich.

I was walking past a kitchen ware store in northern Florida, when they were offering this set at a greatly reduced price. We went in and for some strange reason, price probably, as well as the finish of the non-stick which seemed really nice, we bought the set. We were in the mood for nonstick, and our non stick All Clad omelet pan had died what I thought was an untimely death for a pan that was over $100. So we thought, what the heck. At this price, if it dies in a year, oh well. Now you can color me converted. We use this 10" on our boat (no dishwasher) and another in our condo (we don't put it in the dishwasher but maybe 1/4 of the time). We've had them for over a year now, and I can tell you that not a day (that we use it) goes by that my wife and I don't remark to one another, 'this is my favorite pan'. Even heat. Food slides around effortlessly, and a joy to clean with a simple sponge and dish soap. NO signs of wear on the non stick. I have to confess that we treat this pan with respect. We use high temp rubber spatulas, bamboo, and (carefully) metal tongs. Mostly washed by hand (why not, the difference between rinsing and washing this pan is so slight). You're already washing your good knives by hand, right??

Honest reviews on Calphalon Unison Nonstick 8-Inch and 10-Inch Omelette Pan Set

I don't know if these pans were damaged or if they were just poorly finished, but I returned the original and the second set that were sent to me for the same reason. The first set had numerous scratches or dents on the edge of the pan along where the non stick surface finishes onto the anodized back. The 10" pan had the most. The 8" pan had that and a large dent smack in the middle of the cooking surface. The finish looked fine where the dent was, which leads me to believe it may have been like this out of the factory.

The second set I received also had the scratches as the first (one again, more scratching on the 10" than the 8"). The 8" pan this time had discolorations in the finish, which are likely caused by poor application of the finish at the factory.

Overall, I'm not impressed, and certainly not for pans that are "list priced" for 200 dollars. In my opinion, Calphalon should package these better in the first place. 1/3 of the pan isn't protected by the packaging at all. Not good when you're dealing with non sticks, where once the finish is damaged, you really shouldn't continue their use.

I was completely wrong with my earlier review. The instructions say to wash the pans and condition them with a wipe of vegetable oil before their first use. I went back and did that, and they are completely cling free.

I'm sorry for my mistake, and if I mislead anyone. I'm delighted with the pans!

After buying many different French Presses I believe the Berghoff press has the best quality construction of them all. Very easy to use and a great press for two cups of coffee. Easy to clean, useable outside without worry and one can quickly make two additional cups quickly for the 2nd cup when necessary. Best of all, this one is actually made in Belgium and might be the only press that is NOT made in China. The press mechanism, filter screen and all surrounding material is made of stainless steel, promising to be durable and safe.

I was looking for a French Press with more elegance than the plastic ones offered cheaply in many department stores, but also one that was not as pricey as Bodum. This fit the bill. And it has served marvelously! It comes with simple directions and works wonderfully, making great coffee, as, of course, do most French Presses. But this particular one has more bang for your buck. Definitely recommend it!

I have owned several other french presses and this is the best so far. I am very happy with this press particularly because the cut out design on the metal holder helps me measure how much water to pour into the press for the number of cups I want for any given day. This press looks nice when sitting on the counter. The glass is secure and the metal holder surrounds more than half the glass so it helps protect it from accidental bumps. Coffee is delicious with no need to taste the coffee filter I had to use with my coffee maker. I wish Amazon sold the replacement cut but I hope I will not need one.

Honest reviews on BergHOFF Cook and Co. French Press 4 Cups

I had expected a well made and well reviewed french press to have a carafe made of glass, not plastic. But it was plastic and is being returned.

After starting with a quite small 3 cup (12oz) La Cafetiere press (which I really like but I can make 1 10oz cup max), I started shopping for a somewhat larger press. I decided that a 4 cup (16oz) would serve me just fine. It seemed that all the french presses were based on a 4oz cup size, so I ordered the Berghoff based on that assumption. Imagine my surprise when I opened it up and saw a huge gleaming stainless steel press that looked 4 times larger than my little 3 cup model. It is actually a 32oz monster. Nice quality and functions quite nice with a glass beaker and

All ends well though with this true 8oz/cup 4 cup Berghoff (confusing hmmm?)as I can now make two nice 12oz mugs of coffee and share with a guest.
