I needed a new tea kettle and like other reviewers have stated on reviews for various styles, who would have thought it would have been so involved finding one I liked? The thing that was most important to me is a removable lid. My last tea kettle cost me probably less then $10.00 and has lasted for better then 15 years. The only thing that was wrong with it was the handle. It had begun to become loose and did not have screws that could be tightened. It was becoming dangerous due to the fact that when I was pouring the boiling water into my cup, with the handle being so loose the 'pot' of the kettle would swing and I was afraid that one day I would end up with boiling water all over myself so off I went looking for a replacement. I love shopping on www.amazon.com so I looked and I looked and read reviews til I was cross-eyed! Although this one had no reviews (and I am pleased to be the first!) I liked the looks, the fact that it has a removable lid, and a stationary handle that stays cool and has a button you push to open the pour spout. With my old one, I had to remove the whistle from the spout and as you can imagine it could be very hot. The whistle on my old tea kettle was piercing; this one is softer but I am able to hear it if I'm in another room. I like the fact that the lid fits very snug. I have arthritis in my hands and the button on the handle that opens the spout is easy enough for me to push open and closed. It's a good weight and does seem to be very well constructed. I have been using it for my nightly tea ever since it arrived and I am loving it! It really looks nice sitting on my black smooth top stove too. I think I'm going to be using this one for a very long time.

This is an excellent tea kettle. It holds 2 quarts, it heats up quickly, pours perfectly and doesn't spill a drop, handle stay comfortable. It has a lining on the inside and I can't see any way it could possibly rust (I do empty it every time), and it whistles loud enough to be heard anywhere in my house. What more could you ask of a tea kettle.

I have read lots and lots of reviews on other kettles (as well as this one). I couldn't believe all the complaints on some of the other kettles. This one seemed to be just right for me and it is! It is also a beautiful kettle with a nice modern look, and I love mine. Thanks again, Amazon 5+ stars for you and the kettle.

this is just what i was looking for i had been looking for a whisteling tea pot for sooo long and i read a ton of reviews before i buy anything. and this item did not really have all that many good reviews but i thought i would take a chance with it so i did and i'm glad i did. it whistle so loud with time first you will seem steam coming out of the whistle tip but then after about 10 min after that the whistle will slowly get louder. so don't worry the whistle does get very loud. but works great and always love the "me coffee" brand.

The tea kettle is ok. I love the shape and look. It is very large, larger than I need. I love the the trigger to open the spout. You click it and it pops open and stays open until you shut it. The thing I find disappointing about it is that the handle gets very hot. I find I have to us a pot holder when pouring which is very disappointing. Because of the hot handle I would not buy again, and will probably keep an eye out for a replacement.

I shopped long and hard for the perfect tea kettle. This one is great. It not only is affordably priced, but also has my must-have features. This kettle has a loud enough whistle, is not too big, is attractive, has a very substantial stay cool handle, has an easy to reach spout opener button which avoids steam burns, and it heats the water quickly to a full boil. I highly recommend this kettle.

I bought this silicone mold to make some festive jello shots that I found on Jelly Shot Test Kitchen (which were delicious). I haven't used it for baking yet, I really dislike the idea of ingesting something heated in silicone. But a little cooking spray before hand & the shots popped right out! Much easier than when I've tried to make them before in metal molds (which was completely unsuccessful.) Easy to wash, it can go in the dishwasher, etc. So, 4 stars since I haven't used the mold for it's intended purpose, but I imagine it would work nicely.

Nice mold for panna cotta. While the normal shape of a panna cotta is a sort of truncated cone, I prefer pyramids. Panna cotta are easy, can be made with vegetarian gelatin & coconut milk for vegan friends, or with cream and regular gelatin if you are not vegan. I like mine infused with vanilla bean and served with chocolate sauce or fresh raspberries. It's an easy dessert.

This plaque makes six puddings, plenty for a dinner party. You can also mold chocolate mousse in these, but the recipe needs added gelatin. Barbara Kafka has a recipe, which you can adapt for small molds.

As you can see by the other reviews, this is a great pot rack. However I have some very useful information if you want to purchase it. The rack was well designed and the mounts were spaced properly so that you screw the pot rack directly into the studs.

There is a major flaw...the screws that they provide are only 1 1/4 inches long. My kitchen has 3/4 inches of plaster before you hit a stud and the rack is about an 1/8 of an inch wide. That means the screws only bite into the stud a total of 3/8 of an inch. The result...during installation the pot rack ripped itself out of the wall. So I found a better way to mount it.

My solution cost an extra $1.77. I went to Home Depot and I bought five 1/4 by 2 inch lag screws and five 1/4 inch washers. I had previously measured and marked the three mounts on the main unit prior to installation. I then predrilled the holes with a 3/16 inch drill bit. Predrilling is very important, you don't want to split the stud when putting the lag screws in. And of course check your measurements so you don't miss the studs or put in any extra holes in your wall.

Next put the washers on the lag screws and use a ratchet to screw them in place. Once the main portion of the rack was in place I installed the 2 supports, predrilled each hole, and installed the remaining lag screws.

This pot rack is easily 10 times stronger than it would have been with the original hardware. I would hang cast iron cookware off of it without hesitation. It looks great in the kitchen and is ultra stable. I highly recommend the pot rack so long as you replace the original mounting hardware.

Like everyone else, I love this rack. One of the benefits of this wall mounted rack, as opposed to a rack suspended from the ceiling, is that you can hang and remove pots without worrying about unbalancing the rack and having things slide around or fall off. The downside is that this rack may be a bit more work to attach. My building is quite old and the wall studs weren't spaced 16 inches apart, as this rack requires. If you search the web for "how to hang a pot rack" you'll get all the extra info you need to deal with this and other problems not covered by the very brief instruction sheet.

We don't have an island or anywhere else in the kitchen where we can hang a ceiling-mounted pot rack, so this wall-mounted rack was the perfect solution for us.

Mounting was easy, but as other reviews stated, I used my own hardware. I had some longer deck screws that I knew would grab hold of the studs better. With those, I could do chin-ups from this thing now.

It fits all the pots and pans from the new set I just bought my wife for Christmas, and it looks great. This rack is an excellent value.

I currently own about 7 pieces of Calphalon cookware. I have been very pleased with the quality, and I try to pick up additional ones whenever I can. I was happy when I saw an Amazon offer for a Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized 7-Quart Chef's Casserole with Lid set for $60, down from $190. The few customer reviews were mostly favorable so I ordered one.

I did note some issues people were having with the Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 12-Quart Stockpot with Lid. To summarize it was noted that the pot was not made in America, was flimsy and thin in construction, and the finish quality was substandard. Being that I had already ordered, I waited to see what would arrive.

I opened the Amazon box and took out the plain white box whose only markings were "Made in China." Nowhere did it even say Calphalon, so this was an object never intended for normal retail sale (at a Macy's etc.). The pot was indeed flimsy with comically puny handles. I scratched at the surface with my fingernail and appeared to slightly mar the surface. I then walked to my computer, clicked return, and printed out the return authorization.

I think what disturbs me the most is if Calphalon is calling this piece of junk commercial quality, how can I possibly order one of their products unless I can physically touch it before I commit? Claiming a 68% savings on the price of this pot is ludicrous. This is more like one of those infomercials that packages 50 cents worth of plastic and says it's a $20 value. This flimsy pot would be expensive at $20. Calphalon may very well have lost me as a customer.

I grabbed my caliper and took a couple of quick measurements of the thickness of several of my Calphalon pieces.

This is a great pot if you know what you are getting. First of all, Calphalon's Commercial Hard Anodized line is NOT non-stick in the traditional sense, they make other lines that are, but this one is not. That said, if you follow the instructions, it does things a non-stick pot/pan can't do and cleans up very easily. It's especially good at searing and creating flavor in deglazing. At this point though I use this pot mainly for things like stews or chili. It does make a great pot roast too if that's your goal. I took one star off because it's not the same really heavy gauge as most of the other pots and pans I have from their Commercial Hard Anodized line. It's still a good pot, but noticeably lighter gauge. None of the this line is dishwasher safe either, if that's an issue for you.

I bought this to work as a dutch oven. I've made soups and roasts in it so far.

The sides of the pot are a bit thin for my tastes, although the bottom is comfortably thick. There are no hot spots on the bottom at all. Cleanup is a snap since it's hard anodized. Since it's not teflon, you can make pan sauces from the fond.

It's not cast iron, so it won't substitute for your Lodge or La Creuset. On the other hand, it doesn't weigh 15lbs either.

All in all, a very good pan for the money ($ on sale). I recommend it.

The pot is lightweight and definitely not Commercial grade as indicated in the description. There are only two good things about the pot as far as I'm concerned: the domed lid and the size. Over-all, I'd rate it poor quality and I would never have made the purchase if I'd touched it. If you're a serious cook -don't buy it.

We recently replaced our non-stick electric griddle with this Lava cast iron dual grill/griddle. We use it on a ceramic stovetop across two burners and it works great!

Our family uses it for everything from pancakes and eggs to steak and pork chops. I also love to cook all of our veggies on it! If you are not familiar with usinf cast-iron, it cleans up very easy. The heat distribution is great; it cooks food very fast.

If you are trying to get away from non-stick, cast iron is great.

Basics:

This pot is made of 18/10 stainless steel. There is an aluminum disk in the bottom to promote even heating. I have used it on a Sunpentown induction plate, and it works fine. I have also used it on a gas stove. It has an inner depth of 4" and inner diameter of just over 7.5".

What I like:

1. The stainless steel looks nice and makes me think that I am reducing my family's consumption of PFOA. I don't cook with cheese or other sticky substances, and the stainless steel will survive any type of cooking utensil. (I usually use bamboo chopsticks.)

2. Three quarts/liters is really a convenient size for small-family cooking.

3. The aluminum mass in the base seems to maintain heat better than my T-Fal anodized aluminum or brass cookware. By this I mean, when I cook dry pasta, this pot seems to return to a boil just a bit faster than the thick-walled aluminum pots.

4. It's easy to see through the glass lid. There is no moving open/close valve that I need to clean.

What I don't like:

1. Since the lid is flat, instead of domed, you need to hold it at an angle for a few seconds so that the condensation can drip back into the pot instead of onto the stove or elsewhere in the kitchen.

2. The pot lid handle can get hot. After bringing 2.5 quarts of cold water to a rolling boil, the handle (and lid) is so hot that it's uncomfortable for me to hold it for more than a couple of seconds (waiting for the condensation to drip off). (Update (September 2008): This depends on the type of stove you use and was based on the stove in one apartment. My induction cooker and the stove where I live now are both faster.)

3. After boiling water for an additional ten minutes (the time to cook dry pasta), the air-cooled pot handle becomes so warm that I cannot grip it with my bare hands. So, I'd prefer a phenolic handle. I don't use stovetop cookware in my oven, because the handles are too long to fit.

Summary:

I have used this pot three to five times each week for about four weeks. It's pretty much my favorite saucepan now. (I didn't have the money for All-Clad.) Other pots I have owned include: T-Fal 2.5-qt nonstick brass saucepan, T-Fal 4-qt nonstick anodized aluminum saucepan, T-Fal nonstick anodized aluminum skillet, Martha Stewart nonstick anodized aluminum wok, Anolon nonstick anodized aluminum chef's pan.

I bought this basically as a pot to make iced tea in. I had used a teflon coated pot for a long time, and the teflon was starting to flake so I decided to get a stainless steel pot instead.

I am very pleased with it's performance so far. I do not have a high btu gas stove, but boiling water on high on the large electric burner does not make the lid handle too hot to hold, at least for me. That said, it does get pretty warm. I like the fact that the lid is vented. The only concern I have is the cracks and pops that come from it as it heats and cools. It does make me wonder if it will shatter one day, but so far it's worked quite well.

The measuring lines on the inside of the pot are a nice touch, although I have never used them.

The only thing I think would make this better is if the lid were curved instead of flat, but it is a minor thing to me and not worth taking a star off for.

So what more can you say about a pot? For my purposes, it works. Hence, 5 stars.

This is a awsome knife. Super sharp. Great weight and easy to use on Veggis, Seafood, Sushi, Beef etc. Cut Salami or Carrots paper thin. I have a set of Henckels chef's knives that I just adore. I recently added this 5-inch hollow edge santoku to my set. It has everything I have come to expect from Henckels: world-class quality, balance, comfort and control.

I am an advocate of EXCELLENT kitchen knives because they are so much more safe to use than crappy knives. When you use one of these, you are in control, even when cutting something hard and round like a winter squash or a huge, firm onion.

After Hurricane Katrina, when my stuff was in storage on the other side of the country, I went out and bought some inexpensive (OK, CHEAP) kitchen tools to get me by until I could get my things out of storage. I had TWO different knives break apart in my hands while I was using them! You know the kind: cheap plastic handle, poorly joined to the blade, not terribly sharp. Yikes.

What a relief it is to have a good knife in my hand again. I can focus on cooking, rather than on avoiding maiming myself with a cheap blade.

Every household needs at least three good kitchen knives--a paring knife (for trimming mushrooms and slicing small veggies, like carrots), a smaller chef's knife (for chopping onions and small cabbages) and a large chef's knife (for slicing bigger, harder things like watermelons and butternut squash.)

This 5" santoku nicely bridges the gap between the small and large chef's knives--perfect for people on a more limited budget. I used mine tonight to thinly slice a large onion. It slid through the onion like a warm knife through soft butter and the slices fell away from the knife cleanly as advertised. Using a good tool made well is one of life's enduring little pleasures.

We used this maybe 5 times. Inside became loose, and water collected inside the wall and we could not get it out. Not worth the money. I had one of these from years ago that lasted 10 years, I don't think they are made as well any more.

At first I was happy with this set, but after only a few uses the nonstick coating began to come off the saucepans and dutch oven. The frying pan seems to be doing ok for some reason but I'll be replacing it anyway after seeing how the other pieces in the set performed. I suggest avoiding this product and saving up for a higher quality set.

I filled this Orka steamer up to the top with broccoli, popped it in the microwave, and in four minutes I had perfectly steamed broccoli. Looked and tasted great. I buy broccoli in big warehouse-size bags. I often ended up with a too-big pot of overcooked bland unappetizing broccoli. Tonight, Wow! I am a believer! This little Orka is a wonderful time saver, AND a food saver if you previously tried to save time by cooking a big batch of something which quickly lost its appeal. All I had to go was rinse some broccoli, snip away the thick end stalks, pull off the smaller florets and drop them into my Orka, and in a matter of minutes I had the best-tasting broccoli. And, the bonus no saucepan and lid to wash. How much better does it get? Oh, I can't forget to praise the manufacturer for making this in my favorite bright red color.

I have several Orka silicone products and they have become some of my kitchen favorites! I especially like to microwave fresh fish and vegetables. Actually, everything I've microwaved in my Orka steam cookers has been moist and delicious, even without adding liquids. They are truly amazing. Orkas are especially wonderful for warming up leftovers. My single friends especially like them because they are perfect for preparing small quick meals. I particularly like this square steam cooker because the bottom is reinforced and doesn't bend as much as the others. Before I bought this Orka steamer I was using tons of the Ziplock brand steam bags from the store. I'm so glad I found this thing, definitely cuts down on the money and waste! I've used it for fresh broccoli, asparagus, and brussel sprouts to great results. You can add olive oil or butter and any seasonings you want before sticking it in the microwave. Pretty much anything you'd normally steam in a pot on the stove can be steamed in this within a fraction of the time it would normally take. The silicone makes it really easy to clean (and mine, despite the many dishwasher loads it has endured, still looks brand new). Highly recommended!

I ordered this to replace my small veggie steamer but it's smaller than the one I was going to replace. But I ended up taking it to my office and I steam half a bag of frozen vegetables nearly every day to have with my lunch. It's perfect for that. But tried to put a whole bag of frozen broccoli and cauliflower in and it wasn't large enough to hold that much. Beware, the size given is overall measurements not the inside dimensions. It's a wonderful steamer, just too small for most uses.

This is a MUST HAVE for any cook. I like utensils from one piece of material: nylon or wood. That way food doesn't hide in the cracks in the handle. This is so much better to clean! I used it on hamburgers, sausage patties, dicing up ground meat in the skillet. It is truly like another set of fingers. I love the size and thinness. The angle helps you slip under something to flip it or move it around with no problem. Great product!

I decided to get rid of everything in my drawers that I never use because they don't work well. I bought 4 of these and a bunch of other things I really use.
