This mug is beautiful! The Lenox Holiday series is elegant with it's ivory white background and generous 24k gold banding. The gold is not just on the rim of the mug but on the handle as well. It is not a heavy, clumsy mug but neither is it frail feeling either. Drinking from the mug is an exercise in elegance. In our family we always had Norwegian pastries on Christmas morning and we drank our tea from the lovely mugs. It made Christmas morning even more special.

It made me sad to read the only other review on these wonderful mugs. I would say the mugs were not the problem--I would say there are 3 people who didn't appreciate the beauty they held in their hands.

The product is lovely and the quality of the china is very nice the reason for the 3 star ratings on this particular item is the handle it isn't designed well at all. It is designed with no one over 5ft 5in in mind at 5"10" I could barely get my fingers, which are slender, into the correct position. I wanted to purchase 4 of these mugs, and was happy to find them on Amazon Prime. I already had 4 and wanted to add 4 more to complete my service for 8. Here is the weird part. I was only allowed to order three of these no explanation why. Thought "well, OK then, I'll order 3 and then put in another order for 1." NOT. I was told by Amazon in no uncertain terms that three was all I was entitled to. I resorted to having a friend order one for me and I repaid her for it. I have never run into something like this with an Amazon purchase. And I never could find out why they did this. Who orders just THREE of any china or glassware pattern?

That said, the product was exactly as described; shipping and packaging were fine. Arrival was quick.

Artland Iris DOF, 14-Ounce, Set of 4 Review

Cross-posted as a review for both the highball and the 14 ounce.

We had been trying to get red glasses for everyday use for a few years when we came across these. Every other set we had, the glasses were either coated with red plastic that peeled off with regular use (despite advertising saying they were red glass, not red coated glass) or, if they actually were red glass, they were not dishwasher safe. Not exactly practical for everyday use.

When we ordered these, we were unsure, both because of bad experiences in the past, and because these glasses looked a bit pink in the pictures. Turns out, there was no reason to be unsure. These are an absolutely gorgeous shade of red, the color is in the glass itself no coating, and they are nice and thick. Sturdy enough for daily use whilst still being very pretty. They would be gorgeous for people who use separate dishes for outdoor use as well, as they cast beautiful light when they catch the sun.

We ended up buying an extra set of four in each size just to make sure that even if they stop producing them and we end up breaking one or two, we'll still have a full set. We've had them since February 2011, and despite being dropped on both hardwood and tile floors, caught on the counter-lip when removed from the dishwasher and one instance of having cold liquid poured into a glass still hot from the dishwasher (oops! :o ), there is not a single crack or chip in any of them.

Though I've given five stars on amazon before (and, in all honesty, tend to be fairly generous with high star reviews) this is one of those cases that I can say with no caveats that the product really is worth the high rating.

Buyer beware! Although this comes in an Artland shipping box, the glasses are actually RuffHewn brand and are a cheap imitation of Artland. They are thinner and inferior quality.

This was a replacement order for the same glasses I received initially.

I ordered our current glasses from another site and received the correct product which is much thicker glass and superior quality. These are not a match with the current glasses.

Love the color, feel and weight of these glasses. I've purchased them in the amber, slate blue, and purple, and they're all gorgeous. Strong enough for everyday use. I only gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because the ones I purchased 2 years ago were thicker glass, so they appear to be cutting the quality a little bit (although not the price).

As a chopper to use on a daily basis, this is unbeatable. The blades are much more substantial than on other products of this size. However, you have to be very careful with the plastic bowl. The center section that holds the blade has begun to break. Currently half of the circular holder (in the middle) is gone. Although it will still hold the blade, if it breaks any more, it probably won't. I'm going to have to find a replacement for the plastic bowl. October 18, 2005 update: Guess what? I contacted Black & Decker online, and they have a company that they refer you to that handles their replacement parts. In this case they are sending me a complimentary new 3 cup plastic bowl. I wish I could change my rating upward; this is real customer service. July 5, 2007 update: Since I received the replacement bowl, I have used this appliance constantly, that is, three to five times a week. I have had no problems with the center section of the replacement bowl. February 8, 2008 update: Note that when Amazon runs this item for $12.99, it is really a screaming deal.

August 16, 2011 update: You know what? This thing is still going strong. I have had no trouble whatsoever with the replacement bowl. Just don't stress this chopper out with something like chestnuts; those simply need to be cut up by hand.

December 22, 2012 update: The replacement bowl has developed a crack in the bottom, after seven years of constant use, but as long as it does not leak, I will not replace it. However, I note that as of this date, the current price is $17.12 with super saver shipping, the lowest price that I have seen this item for months.

So far I've only used this on two foods. I chopped chicken strips and celery chunks (separately) to make chicken salad. The fact that it has a bottom blade and another about an inch above allows it to do a better, quicker job of chopping the pieces that get thrown up by the bottom blade than others I've tried that only have a bottom blade. Those usually chop the bottom layer too fine and leave big pieces untouched. I also liked that there are few parts: the motor/lid, the 3-cup bowl, the blade unit, and a base that detached to serve as a lid. It is easy to disassemble and clean just don't submerge the power head. For empty nesters or singles, this is big enough to prepare the quanities we need without seeming like "shooting rabbits with a cannon." I shopped around and found that Amazon had the best price.

Very handy product to have on hand, simple to use and easy to clean. However, since the motor is in the top portion of the chopper and you cannot run it under water to clean, it is a good idea to use plastic wrap. Just take a piece of plastic wrap and place it on the top of the chopper bowl, put a small hole in the middle and put the motor on the bowl. You only have to toss the plastic wrap when done, and put the bowl and blade in the dishwasher.

Two years ago I bought the Black & Decker KEC600 Cordless Can Opener. Another super highly recommended item. It is inexpensive, powerful, and convenient. It is cordless and sits in a reharging station, then you can take it to anywhere in the kitchen. After two years, the rechargeable battery finally started to get weak. So I ordered another one.

While browsing in the Black and Decker area, I came across this B&D Ergo 3 cup food chopper. Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Now I don't know which one I like... no, love better. I use it to make fresh custom salad dressing. No more hand chopping garlic, now I fine chop it before sautéing for making sauce. The list is endless.

I have a 90 year old mother I take care of. When she complains about the food not being tender enough, I drop it in the chopper, the razor sharp blades spin at the slow or fast speed, and out comes a beautiful puree. A quick pop into the micro to freshen up the heating, and she loves it.

I'm ordering another chopper. Why? Because I don't ever want to go without it. Since it is a plug in the wall device, it wil probably last for 20 years. If mine gets dropped and breaks, I don't want to take a chance on not having one. Anything this good doesn't last. It is just too great of an item for such a little bit of money. Additionally, I like the fact that it comes with a removable flexible bottom, that doubles as a lid when you want to put your blendings in the refrig, without having to scoop them out.

One reviewer commented that they wish they would offer the bottom container as a separate item because it would be convenient, to have more than one. My logic is that for this kind of money, buy two. All bases are covered that way. The increased flexibility is worth it.

One other comment, worth mentioning, is that the top which houses the motor is easy to clean, even though their are those who complain, that it is not submersible. I have been washing mine by turning it upside down, soaping, and then running it under hot water, while spinning it around. The water pouring only hits the underdside of the center on out, and easily pours over the outer lip, without ever getting anywhere near the on off switch, or other sensitive to water areas. That makes even the top easy to clean. The rest of the chopper is submersible, or dish washer safe. Additionally the blade is easily removable from the base, simply by pushing down on it, while giving it a quarter turn. Up it pops, ready for removal and easy cleaning. Great for cleaning the 3 qt base also. No blades stuck in the bottom, making it difficult to clean.

The Black and Decker seems to be leading the pack with a three quart chopper, instead of the 1 1/2 qt like the competition. The 3 quart makes it large enough to not have to use a full size blender, yet small enough to use regularly, without the additional clean up. In addition it is a lot lighter to move around.

It is also attractively designed, and the buttons are ergonomically designed.

Overall I can't recommend this chopper enough. If your looking for something else to buy, to take advantage of Amazons minimum purchase amount to qualify for free shipping, consider buying the Black and Decker cordless can opener. The KEC600 model is the one that I have and is getting the better reviews.

Round 4 qt. Cocotte with Four Mini Ceramic Cocottes in Basil Reviews

Several months ago I ordered the round Staub 4 qt. pot with 4 mini ceramic cocottes for myself in green, and I use the 4 qt. pot several times a week. I bake bread in it and get an even, luscious crust every time. I use it for stews and soups and pasta sauces. I wash the pot by hand, dry it immediately and put it away to avoid an accident; however, the enamel is thick and even. The textured, black enamel interior is easy to clean, as is the exterior. The bottom heats evenly without spots sticking and scorching. The heavy mass of the pot allows me to turn down the heat and maintain an even cooking temperature on the stovetop. It's a versatile size and shape and I love the color. When I saw what a wonderful quality this pot was, I ordered a set in blue for my daughter, who is delighted with them. I also ordered a larger round pot for my son and a larger oval one for me for roasting chicken and other meats. If you want an easy to clean cast iron pot that you will use over and over and that will retain its enamel finish, then Staub is the one for you.

I would have never bought this pan if I had seen the reviews here, but I bought it on an impulse at a cookware outlet and I'm so glad I did! My pan doesn't have any of the problems (hot handle, peeling nonstick) that the other reviewers here have experienced. I suspect that since those earlier reviews the pan has been redesigned by the manufacturer.

Whatever the reason, I absolutely love it! It's the only pan I've ever found that is the perfect size (4") for english muffins and orowheat sandwich thins. Honestly, I'm a rather practical person, so I generally don't buy things with little characters on them, but this pan has ended up being the most-used pan in my kitchen. It's perfect for making scrambled egg sandwiches, so I use it several times a week.

If the handle starts heating up or the nonstick peels off, I'll update this review, but in over six months of weekly use, it's performed like a little champ! And, over time, the cartoon egg on the handle has grown on me, it seems kind of shocked or amazed... perhaps because it has to watch me cook an egg!

BTW-The secret to light, fluffy scrambled eggs is to use a low heat and stir constantly. It takes a little longer, but it is so worth it.

I must admit, I'm shocked at all of the one-star negative reviews on this pan. This little thing is great! Firstly, I'm certain that 99% of the perceived issues with this pan are because people aren't using it correctly. For starters, LOWER your heat. This is a really small pan and heats up very quickly. As such you can't expect it will act the same as a much larger pan. The first time I used this I made the same mistake and put the heat where I would for a larger pan.

I had the same problem with the egg sticking. But then I lowered the heat and presto the pan worked great! Now I realize the pan heats very quickly and only minimal heat is necessary. I spray some cooking oil in the pan, let it heat for a minute and then add the egg. It slides off easily every time now. Realize, too, that non-stick coatings will deteriorate quicker under extreme heat.

The only issue I've found is that it is necessary to have a narrower plastic spatula so you can get under the food to turn it.

Once you learn to use the pan, it is really a joy to use. The design seems to have been modified to correct the handle issue and I haven't had that problem at all.

For the money, it's a good buy !

My wife loves for me to make her an "Egg McMuffin" kind of sandwich, except with egg whites only, and on a bagel, and with Virginia ham intead of Canadian bacon. I make one for her almost every morning befoe I go to work. I had been using these egg rings, which you lay down on a hot frying pan. They work sorta ok. But egg always leaks out because either no frying pan in completly flat, or the rings are not. I have not ever figured it out. Then along comes this pan. Seems to be the perfect size for the pefect round egg. And really, it is! The egg cooks up fine, especially if you keep the flame on low, which on most gas burners give you a flame ring the size of the bottom of the pan. This also seems to be just the right amount of btu's for proper cooking. Turning the egg over is a problem, but not a huge one. Best option is to let the egg do 90% of it's cooking on the first side, then use your smallest spatula to turn it over for the last 10 or 15 seconds of cooking. There is one fatal flaw to this pan. It is the handle! For starters, it is of an almost useless shape, too wide and too flat to hold comfortably, were the second problem not evident-the handle gets just about as hot as the pan! Now the makers have seen fit to afix a goofy egg character on the end of the handle, I suppose to insulate your hand from it's cooking temperature surface , but alas, it gets just about as hot as well. Having said all that, I still use the pan every day because it is the only one of it's size I have been able to find. And it does make perfect round eggs for that morning sandwich my wife must have!

Addendum: 7/11/2012 The makers/importers of this pan seem to have read my complaint! ' The pan now comes with a re-designed , insulated handle which is so much better. I can now say the pan is just about perfect!

We recently replaced our non-stick electric griddle with this Lava cast iron dual grill/griddle. We use it on a ceramic stovetop across two burners and it works great!

Our family uses it for everything from pancakes and eggs to steak and pork chops. I also love to cook all of our veggies on it! If you are not familiar with usinf cast-iron, it cleans up very easy. The heat distribution is great; it cooks food very fast.

If you are trying to get away from non-stick, cast iron is great.

Fits many pan contours and it is not wrong-handed! It makes more of a difference than you know. If you have a lefty loved one who goes near a stove, I bet they would appreciate this.

Being natural, it should be washed by hand, if you care about such things. Me, in the dishwasher it goes and for $3 to $4, I'll replace it every so often.

I have tried contacting OXO, for instance, for some left-handed kitchen implements, but they won't even consider it. So thanks to Joyce Chen for this.

I hadn't realized how much having this spoon would change my cooking. Everything tastes better and has fewer calories. The food costs less somehow and beautiful women throw themselves at my feet. Ok, so really it's just a spoon. However! I've been using a righty bamboo spatula for so long (backwards) that it really is great having it the proper way round. Well constructed, good size, good price Will probably last a decade or so.

***One rather major gripe if you're reading this Joyce Chen company!!*** STOP PUTTING STICKERS ON PLACES THEY DONT BELONG. You have no idea how long it took to remove the red "for lefties blah blah" sticker off this spoon. I used several applications of goo gone and quite a bit of elbow grease. Hang a tag from the hole, or better yet, don't put anything on it! Thank you. :)

It is really nice to have a left handed spatula and the size is good. My beef is that it has some sort of unknown lacquer on it. This makes me nervous about using it in either a very hot wok or skillet since I don't want the stuff coming off in my food. I would have given it 5 stars if they would have just left the lacquer off. Plain bamboo is pretty robust, especially if you treat it with mineral oil like all other wooden utensils.

I've never seen a more beatriful fry pan, but sadly the casting is defective having a very noticable 1/4 inch long pit in the frying surface. There are a couple smaller dimples, not so noticeable as well. This qaulifies the pan for a factory second in my opinion and sixty bucks is way too much to pay for a factory second and had I known it I would not have purched it at any price. Nicely packed but no name on either the box or the fry pan so whoever made it must not be very proud of their workmanship. I am not sure I want to go through the hastle of returning it, but have saved all the packing in case I decide to.

Great productvery heavy duty and the lid fits snugly on top so no steam escapes. It's small enough that it's perfect for a family of two. However, it came with no instructions for care...had it been my first cast iron purchase I would not have known proper care which could have turned out badly. All in all no complaints with the actual product at all.

I love these pieces, they are wider than most sugar and creamer sets and therefore need to be refilled less. I didn't realize that a matching spoon came with it, that was a nice perk.

This little sugar bowl and creamer set is anything BUT little. The creamer could double as a gravy boat, always great to have a spare! And the sugar bowl serves jelly just great! Seems to get a lot of use.

this is the best creamer i've ever owned. finally, a creamer that holds enough milk to get through a coffe serving..every other creamer i have holds so little i was always getting up to refill it! the spoon for the sugar bowl is pretty useless and i Hate that its from china but its so nice i had to buy it!
