I love this pan except that I have had to be careful what I cook in it. It's good for braising and for slow baking but it can be difficult to clean at times. Food particles can collect in the honey comb pattern on the bottom of the pan and they can be difficult to get out. Using plenty of moisture when cooking with this pan is key. The points in the lid of the pan help distribute the moisture back to the food. The pan is a nice weight and I prefer the side handles over a long pan handle. The handles don't take up any space so it's easy to use on the stove, in an oven, and make it very easy to store the pan without worrying about needing space for a long handle to take up. All in all, I am happy with this pan.

I just purchased this pan to replace the saute/braiser pan that I had, a Calphalon pan that was looking dismal after 2 years of nearly daily use. I was trying to decide between Le Creuset (I have their 7 qt dutch oven that I also adore) and this pan. I decided to take the leap from LC to Staub and have been very happy with this pan. So far the big differences I have noticed between LC and the Staub have been that the Staub has 2 small handles on the side versus the long handle on the LC that can bump into things and crowd the range just like my Calphalon pan did. It is lighter weight than its LC counterpart (I was at an upscale cookware store checking them out in person). Not to say that the Staub is by any means a light panits cast iron and still weighs a ton, just slightly less than the LC saute pan I handled at the store. The BIG thing that I really like is that the interior of the Staub is a matte black ceramic. Despite my best efforts with my LC dutch oven, eventually the cream colored enamel did become stained. Its only aesthetic, but it does make the dutch oven seam dirty even when it is not. That won't be a problem at all with the Staub pan.

If you need a braiser/saute pan, I would definitely give this pan consideration, especially if you like to cook with ceramic/enamel cookware and are accustomed to the special care they need. This pan is serving me very well already and I wish I had ditched my Calphalon anodized aluminum pan sooner! And the color I pickedsapphire blueis stunning and cheery in my kitchen!

It's suitable size to use in common house. This product's gradation is so artistic that it's beautiful whenever I see.

So I put this pan on the stove. I'm very satisfied with this pan.

Honest reviews on Staub 2.5-Quart Hexagon Saute Pan/Braiser

When I first purchased this Staub braiser (I own the 7 qt oval cocotte), I was a little wary because of the other reviews. I've owned this item for almost four months, and can say that I'm not sure why others have problems with sticking food or have difficulty with cleaning. I have cooked all sorts of meat (except fish), vegetables and rice dishes and have not had a problem with sticking. I use it for everything, from browning beef to making tikka masala, to pan frying chicken. For cleanup, I simply fill it with water, and let it sit for an hour or so and then everything wipes off perfectly with a paper towel.

I love love love this braiser and am so happy that I purchased it!

I use this almost everyday because the size is perfect for a meal and leftovers. My biased opinion is that food tastes better when cooked in a cast iron pot, and so far my meals have turned out wonderfully delicious. Curries, stews to frying baked potatoes and onions ... It is truly a versatile kitchen must have. This is my fourth Staub purchase and I love the brand.

The product is exactly what was described, except that when I researched the company, I found that Tramontina's website claims that their products are manufactured in the USA. So I was quite surprised to find that the box this one arrived in was clearly marked, "Made in China." I had already purchased and returned a comparable Dutch oven that I bought because I got such a great deal on it. So I was quite disappointed to find that in the end I paid more for standing on principle, and ended up with the very same issue. Bummer. The vendor should include this information on the Amazon.com website.

Not only do I cook great soups, stews, chili, and tagines in this dutch oven, it is also wonderful for making no-knead artisan breads. (See my images for proof.) I see no reason to purchase the mondo-priced alternatives from other manufacturers when this powerhouse does it all and for much, much less money.

Follow all Tramontina instructions for seasoning the rims of the dutch oven and by all means don't use metal for stirring in this pot (though I do cheat and use metal tongs for browning roasts and large pieces of meat.)

Clean up is very, very simple. Anything I've ever cooked as pretty much wiped out of the pot on the first try. The rare occasions something sticks, I use these --> Scotch Brite Heavy Duty Scouring Pads 20 Count

The kettle worked fine for the first 2 weeks. Then corrosion began to appear around the spout. A week later, rust began appearing inside the kettle on the bottom plate which is supposed to be "stainless steel". We were very disappointed with this product.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I've used this about 15 times in the past week and so far so good.

The only gripes I have are

A)Cord could be longer.

B)It would be nice to have a fill line outside.

C)Boy does calcium build up fast in this thing I use only filtered water in this thing and it gets that cloudy calcium film after every use, but as I'm typing this it occurs to me that maybe it's because I leave leftover water in it. I'll stop doing that and see what happens.

*Just a little heads up don't let calcium build up or you'll never get rid of it. Also with anything stainless steel it would be a worth while investment to purchase some 'Barkeepers friend'. That stuff rocks!

Also I wish it boiled water a little bit hotter. Don't get me wrong it works fine for tea but I put honey in my tea and the water that comes out of this isn't quite hot enough to dissolve the honey in the water 100%, I'd say 85-90%. But I think it's a fair trade off for the speed and convenience.

The pluses are -

A)the water has very minimal contact with the plastic lid. The only part of the water that touches it is the moisture produced by the steam.

B)speed

C)small footprint

D)Color is cool

E)price under $20, no brainier, really. If it lasts a year great, if not oh well. But it seems better built then most appliances made today so I have no reason to suspect it won't last.

I just recently started drinking tea and as such this is my first electric tea kettle so I really have no point of reference other then stove top tea pots. When I first opened the box I was surprised how small it was. I guess I thought it would be fatter and taller. But looks can be a little deceiving, I guess, as this will easily heat enough water to fill three standard size travel mugs, but not anymore.

To sum it up I like it!

All The Best

An EXCELLENT product! I use in the kitchen besides my regular electric cooktop and take it along in its' convenient case when doing cooking demonstrations. I bought a second Grillex Portable Gas Burner but unfortunately, it came with a slight dent on the side cover so I cannot close it completely when putting in the gas canister unless I tape it down. Disappointed in that respect. Otherwise, it's a good product.

It's hard to beat this item for convenience and functionality, and the molded case it comes in is handy for when not in use. I took one star off for two reasons: the first is that the fuel canisters are expensive and hard to find where I live; also when simmering at very low temps a good gust of wind can put the flame out. (I use it on the stern of a cabin cruiser even though I'm at anchor, my conditions might be windier than most users)

This stove is very high quality. It makes plenty of heat to operate a all american 25 quart pressure cooker very well.

Honest reviews on Grillex GB-10K Portable Gas Burner

The stove worked fine for a while. Then, the butane wouldn't burn inconsistently followed by the canister not being able to be seated correctly. This evening the stove quit working completely. I purchased this November 21, 2012. I've used butane stoves for years as they're my main source for cooking so I know how to use them and what not to do. I'm sure that I received a defective item but I don't see this as the sellers fault. It happens. Take this with a grain of salt because you're more likely to get and I hope you get a decent product. Unfortunately, my experience was not good.

I purchased this Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Griddle Pan along with the Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Grill Pan and cannot be happier. We use this pan for everything: eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes, vegetables, dumplings (pot stickers), I even made a batch of one-pan brownies (preparing the recipe in the pan on the stove, then sticking the pan in the oven to bake) and they came out great!

The main points for this pan are:

* Nonstick (I mean REALLY nonstick)

* Oven-safe

* Easy to clean

* Handle stays cool while cooking (except when used in the oven)

* Large size with steep sides allows for cooking almost anything but crepes

At around $50 (I paid $100 for the set of two pans) this pan is an incredible bargain. It outperforms every nonstick pan I've used in the past, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stove-top cooking. Even if the only time you use a frying pan is for bacon and eggs in the morning, you will fall in love with Calphalon's Unison nonstick coating.

Note: As with any nonstick cookware, avoid using metal cooking utensils. I bought a heat-resistant silicone-coated spatula and set of tongs and they work perfect.

This is a perfect pan for what I feel it was designed for: eggs and pancakes! I can not imagine a more perfectly designed griddle. The new unison slide surface is truly amazing and does make pancakes and eggs easier than I've ever experienced. This pan is a fabulous value if you like to make breakfast items or other griddle items. I rarely use it during the week but it has made weekend breakfasts a snap for me. It heats evenly and quickly, requires little or no butter or oil, and cleans like a breeze. Since it's not for everything and has a large flat surface with space for up to 4 eggs at a time it's not for every kitchen. But if you have the space for it when you're not using it, boy it is fabulous. The handle Calphalon pans have is well-designed and what draws me to Calphalon before all-clad or other more expensive options.

Re: all Calphalon Unison... If you're considering All-Clad and have't felt the handle, I recommend you try their handles in person before going with All-Clad. I feel they are uncomfortable. I really love the shape of the Calphalon handle and very much dislike All-Clad's

I received this pan as a Christmas gift. At first I loved the pan, but after a few weeks, the pan became warped such that it no longer sits flat on my glass, radiant stove. Since I pay meticulous attention to letting my pans cool before hand washing, I was quite surprised when it warped due to regular use. When I contacted Calphalon about the defect, Calphalon refused to replace this product because the company does not warrant against warping, even due to normal use.

Honest reviews on Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12" Round Griddle

I have been using this pan at least twice a week for about 6 months. I have a smooth-top stove and this pan has warped so much that it is almost useless. At first it was a great pan. I used it to make pancakes, french toast, pork chops, cube steak etc and I was very pleased with the way it cooked food and cleaned up in the dishwasher. However, over time the pan no longer sits flat on the stove. Also, the nonstick lining is looking quite worn. I have used only nylon coated utensils. I am grateful I purchased this pan on sale. It is definitely not worth its full price.

This pan heats unevenly to the point where it simultaneously burns and undercooks food. We have not had this problem with our older Calphalon or All-Clad pans. The uneven heat distribution is undoubtedly related to the thickness of the aluminum. The bottom of the pan is 3.9mm thick. Our older Calphalon pans are 5.5mm thick--40% thicker! Indeed the pans feel lightweight and cheap, similar to non-stick pans you buy at the local supermarket. I suggest you avoid this pan and either buy a cheaper item of similar quality or hunt for better quality.

This review is based on 6 weeks experience with this pan.

For one person this is a great item. French fries come out nice and crispy like they were deep fried but without the grease!

I put fries or tater tots on the tray and give them a quick spray with cooking spray, season them then just cook in the toaster oven. Pizza reheated came out great also and so did frozen chicken patties.

If there are two people look into getting the larger size for a stove oven, this tray cooks for one reheating pizza or cooking fries or tater tots.

Well worth the small amount it costs.

Honest reviews on Nordic Ware Toaster Oven Pizza/Crisping Sheet

Works great for small pizzas in my Cuisinart convection oven. It dose what it says; browns the bottom while cooking the top. Mini pizzas come out perfect.

Works great for french fries, taquitos, pizza rolls, french bread pizza. It's also the best way to quickly reheat a slice of thin-crust pizza and have it come out crisp. Sure, the size is small but people trying to be ambitious with toaster ovens are kidding themselves. My only disappointment is that the non-stickiness of the non-stick surface seems to fade (even without being scratched). I think it may have to do with being used a lot at higher temperatures, but that's to be expected with the kinds of foods you would crisp on this.

Discount Lodge L8DD3 Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover

Lodge L8DD3 Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover, 5-Quart
Customer Ratings: 5 stars
Buy Now
I have been cooking with Lodge cast iron for about 7 years and own 8 pieces from their inventory. The Double Dutch Oven is my favorite Lodge cookware due to its versatility.

When using a dutch oven, I usually sear the meat first to add flavor. Usually, this requires searing the meat in several batches. The best part about the Double Dutch is that you can sear the meat in the big pot and in the lid simultaneously, thus reducing the time needed to brown the meat by half. Since the lid is then used for the braising step (after deglazing), you're not increasing the number of items to be cleaned later.

I like the lid so much that I often use it by itself for pan frying. Due to the smallish size (about 10 inches in diameter) and the inherent properties of cast iron, the lid can get incredibly hot if you want it to. Perfect for cooking a steak (it puts on a better crust vs my 12" Lodge skillet). I've even used it as a pie pan in a pinch. When properly seasoned, the lid also works great for cooking eggs without them sticking. A seasoned cast iron pan is the original nonstick and will outlast any synthetic-coated nonstick pan in the market (and without the toxic fumes).

When used as a Dutch Oven, it works like it should. It retains heat well and cooks evenly. There is very little steam that escapes. The smaller 5qt capacity (vs a 7qt Dutch Oven, which I use less now that I've got this one) is also better for cooking moderate amounts of food. Generally, you want little empty space when using a Dutch oven.

In response to the reviewer who has problems getting the lid off, I suggest the following. When setting the lid on the pot, don't align the handles of the two. This will allow you to remove the lid easily, without having to worry about injuries. I've owned another Lodge 5qt Dutch Oven

with a more traditional handle I don't miss that one at all...nor do I miss not having a standalone 10" skillet.

UPDATE (December 2010):

I've been using this thing for over two years now, several times per week. It is still my favorite, but ever more so. Here's one more thing that you can use this for: Baking super awesome bread that rivals anything you can get at your bakery. One of the secrets of making great rustic breads with a thick chewy/crunchy crust and great oven spring is to use a lot of steam for the first 10 minutes of baking. Bakeries use a steam-injected oven. For us at home, using a covered pot, such as this one, is the easiest way to replicate the effects of a steam oven. After shaping a boule, I place it on the lid, cover it with the main pot and let it proof (so the whole pot is upside down). When the dough is ready, I score it and place the covered pot on a preheated stone in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Then I remove the lid and let the top crust brown while the interior reaches the proper temperature. Depending on your oven, you might have to remove the bread from the lid halfway though cooking so the bottom doesn't burn I usually put it on a cool baking tray on a rack without a stone. It's a minor inconvenience, but it's easier than trying to steam an oven with boiling water, ices cubes, mister, etc. And the results can't be beat!

The use of the Dutch oven has recently been reborn with just about every Food Network Chef/star touting their very own product version. During the holidays a good friend purchased a beautiful royal blue Le Crueset from William Sonoma and recently served us a wonderful roast beef and veggie dinner. The meat was flavorful and rich, cooked to perfection and had complexity in flavor, much more so that the same recipe cooked in a crock pot (which often leaves everything in the pot tasting the same).

As a wanna-be homesteader, in-training, I immediately decided I must have a Dutch Oven... I went straight to William Sonoma's site, credit card in hand, and stopped dead when I saw the price tag of the Le Creuset of $250.00+. As a bargain shopper who aims for product knowledge then sensible purchases, I set out to research my options to determine if a good dutch oven warranted such a heft price tag. I explored the Kitchen Aid, Le Creuset, Mario Batali, Calphalon, Lodge, Rachel Ray, Paula Dean and many others. All have varying price points and gorgeous enamel finish colors and sizes. What to do? Should I spend the $250 for the Le Creuset. Would my food taste that much better than the more economically priced Rachel Ray oven? 100+ product reviews later and I was on product information overload and still totally undecided.

So here do you go when you need to know? The social networking sites, of course! I posted the question "Considering purchasing a Dutch oven, reviews, recommendations and feedback please!" Within the hour I began to receive a live stream of reviews from friends, family and associates. I asked questions like Enamel or Cast Iron? Which size oven works best for your family? Are they easy to care for? How often do you use it? Is it hard too season cast iron and maintain it?

The verdict is the beautifully colored enamel Le Crueset and Lodge products are the most popular choice from the average reviewer. However, it was my "foodie" friends who had opted for cast iron, sans enamel. Why? For several reasons, they explained, including preferring a natural product rather than one with dies but mostly for flavor. The cast iron absorbs the flavor of your meats, etc and releases them through the cooking process. The seasoning process, which after watching multiple YouTube videos, I learned takes time but is not difficult, enhances the flavors of your meals. Over time, if properly season and cared for, the pot will develop a rich black, smooth, non-stick surface. Cast iron was also the way of the original homesteader back in the 1700's which gave me the feeling of nostalgia.

I chose the Lodge Double Dutch for several reasons; Lodge has an excellent name and reputation behind it's brand and it was the choice of all of my "foodie" friends and flexibility of product by using the lid as a second cooking piece. Often when browning the meats it is recommended to do it in batches. The Double Dutch allows you to do all the meat at one time by using the lid as a cooking pan. This saves time! The size is perfect for a 2-4 person family meal. I also purchased the optional lid and trivet. This allows me to use the optional lid on the oven and continue to use the original lid as a second cooking pan, much like a 10" fry pan.

Seasoning was relatively easy. The Double Dutch comes pre-seasoned however it was recommended by those "in the know" to add a few seasoning processes of my own. This would give me that rich and glossy black non-stick finish. After watching videos online it was strongly recommended to begin with a saturated fat. I chose to use a few pieces of pastured and non-curred bacon from a local farmer. Hands down I have never had bacon taste this good. It cooked to perfection on the cast iron. Using a paper towel and tongs I gently wiped the bacon grease to coat the pan, and applied organic vegetable shortening to the lids and outer areas and placed in the oven at 275 degrees for 2.5 hours. The pans are beautiful. I plan to repeat this process several times until I obtain the finish that satisfies me.

Last night, snowed in under 16" of freshly fallen snow, I cooked my first meal in my Double Dutch. I browned ground beef in the oven, added onions and garlic, chicken stock red wine, tomato vinegar, salt, pepper, and marjoram and cooked on the stove to a boil. On top of the meat mixture I placed sliced carrots and then topped with sliced potatoes. I splashed a bit more tomato vinegar (FYI it's not recommended to use tomato products in cast iron so the tomato vinegar is great for adding the tomato flavor), added some seasoning and then placed large red cabbage leaves over the entire dish, one more splash of tomato vinegar and some sea salt, placed the lid on the dutch oven and popped it in the oven at 375 for about 40 minutes. When finished cooking I removed the cabbage and potatoes, placed the oven back on the stove, added corn starch to thicken the juices and brought to a boil. This all happens quickly because the oven is still piping hot. I served this over a small amount of egg pasta with the cabbage and potatoes on the side. All was excellent but cabbage was the best. It has steamed in the pot and absorbed some of the flavors meat and veggies. My husband and I have been together for almost 12 years and his comment on dinner was "this is one of the best meals you have ever made".

Clean up was easy. Allow the oven to cool a bit so you can safely handle it and wash with warm water and a sponge. A special scrub brush can be purchased for tougher jobs. Be sure you completely dry your cast iron and use a small amount of shortening to wipe down the oven before storing.

I am completely happy with my purchase and very pleased I opted for the cast iron product. I'm certain this oven will bring us many years of delicious meals and imagine passing the oven down to the next generation. It makes my heart happy to imagine a family member one day cooking with my oven and telling stories of warm and deliciously rich dishes from the past. At a savings of hundreds over the brightly colored enamel coated designer ovens, it has even left room in my budget to purchase additional Lodge cast iron pieces. I'm currently investigating the frying pan. Stay tuned and happy cooking!

Best Deals for Lodge L8DD3 Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover

To preface, I'm trying really hard to be a "good cook" but don't have a lot of experience, and I can't justify spending thousands of dollars on a budding hobby. So, when it came to replacing my flaking non-stick cookware, I researched for months before deciding on a hybrid set of copper-core stainless and Lodge cast iron. I read dozens of reviews and was intimidated by the extra care required by cast iron (I'm a wash-and-wear type). But, Lodge is so cheap comparatively and still really respected as an industry standard, that it's hard to overlook.

I initially purchased the combo cooker, a 5qt dutch oven, and a variety of skillets. The cookers arrived in their Lodge packaging and were quite secure, but the skillets definitely were shipped loose. Fortunately they survived the jumbled journey fine, but I can see what other reviewers suffered with regards to skillets scraping each other or breaking out of their boxes they are only a few steps shy of being insufficiently packaged. Free shipping is a great offer though.

The pieces were just what I expected after having read the reviews heavy, uneven in color/preseasoning application, and rough like sandpaper. Several reviewers I read were upset by sticking of initial cooking attempts, specifically because of the cat's tongue-like feel of the basin surface (which Lodge's website says is a normal condition). Responders suggested a few home seasonings prior to cooking, but I was impatient and followed one piece of advice spefically: go to my local bulk goods store, buy ten pounds of ground beef, and cook it in my new cast iron. I ended up also getting four pounds of bacon for good measure, and spent three hours cooking batch after batch of ground beef and bacon in every piece I'd purchased.

The plan worked perfectly by the time I had finished cooking, drained the oil and scraps, rinsed the pieces with hot water, and towel dried, the insides of the skillets were smooth as satin. The beef fat had left a gray film that made the skillets look instantly "used", which is a benefit I'll have to get used to (not being able to polish them back to a "new" looking state). The bacon stained the cooking surface a bit worse in bacon-shaped shaddows, but I saved the bacon grease and used it for weeks to brush on the pans prior to use. I've cooked on the cast iron many times since (just dislodged a perfect batch of cornbread this morning), without any sticking during or after cooking. The several weeks of bacon grease was unhealthy, sure, but a great patina starter I now use a spray or a light brush with butter with no problems.

More Pros:

The skillets keep food hot for more than an hour, but yet are not dangerously hot to handle from the oven or stove. I'm going to purchase the handle pads now, but so far I've been using those old loom-woven potholders I made at summer camp with no added discomfort relative to other pans.

The skillets are so versatile! I heat them on the stove to melt butter, toss in some whole garlic cloves, pop in the oven to roast, and bring right to the table for a hot appetizer on toast. They have a vintage-y, industrial charm that allows them to mix and match smartly with existing serveware, and I love the stove-to-oven/broiler convenience.

Food cooked on cast iron really does taste better. I was skeptical because all food tastes good to me, but a few friends and I conducted a "Test Kitchen" on Aebleskiver pans, pitting a teflon against a cast iron. My friends' husbands consistently chose the cast iron-cooked pancake balls citing their crust and flavor to be preferable.

Lodge designed their lines efficiently. The 10.25" lid fits the 3qt Combo Cooker base, for example, allowing me to purchase one lid for several skillets.

Cons:

Duh, they're heavy. I'm talking two-hands-heavy. It's a drawback for sure, but nothing's perfect and I know the heaviness is directly related to all the reasons I really like my cast iron.

They're quirky cast iron doesn't like soap, doesn't like sudden temperature changes, and likes to stay very dry. But, like good table silver, the more the cast iron is put to use, the more forgiving and less tempermental it becomes.

I'm back to purchase more pieces, because Lodge cast iron has exceeded my expectations and caused me to take a sentimental approach to cooking how many Thanksgivings will I reach for this dutch oven?, I wonder. A cook with cast iron in his or her hand is at once an intimidating force to be reckoned with, and a comforting vision of timeless domesticity. Thanks to Lodge (and Amazon!), I can live up to that image with few qualifications and little effort.

Honest reviews on Lodge L8DD3 Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover

****EDITED BELOW****

I am so very happy with this Dutch Oven. Just so you know where I'm coming from, my mom used a cast iron skillet when I was growing up. When I started on my own I also used a cast iron skillet and was very happy with it. Years ago I was in an accident which forced me to close up my apartment and move back home. I gave away all my cookware and focused on physical rehab. When I was patched up and ready to get back in the rat race I bought all T-Fal cookware which I've used for years. My reasons for going with Teflon was because the Teflon was ready to use right away so I could hit the ground running. It didn't require seasoning which was something I didn't want to be bothered with at that time. Using it has been okay but I truly missed my cast iron pan. You could do anything to that pan and it would still love you the next day. I've read people talking on here about the arduous task of having to re season cast iron regularly. I don't know what those people are talking about. All you have to do is keep using it, it seasons itself. You could even get one bland in the mail and not season it at all. Just start cooking on it and deal with strangely burnt food for a while till eventually it becomes seasoned with regular use. Even my Teflon pans became seasoned after years of using it on a regular basis. Seriously, cast iron is ridiculously low maintenance and that is one of my strongest reasons for upgrading to it. And now they come pre seasoned! BONUS! This wasn't the case when I bought one years ago.

All I've used in the past were skillets. This time around I decided to convert ALL of my cookware to cast iron. I went with this Dutch oven because it was eligible for the 4 for 3 deal here at Amazon and the other model I looked at wasn't. I was afraid of how heavy it would be. The Dutch oven really isn't all that bad weight wise. My electric slow cooker seems heavier by comparison. This is my first time using a cast iron Dutch oven and when I finally got it I was so excited I decided to start cooking on it right away. The fact that it comes pre seasoned bothered me a little because I didn't get to choose the kind of oil I wanted since it was already predetermined. Nobody is really selling unseasoned cast iron these days though so I decided to go with the Lodge brand made right here in America. I was really distracted by the concept of pre seasoning but now that the Dutch oven is here my misgivings about it are completely gone. The pre seasoning is not sticky or gross, it wasn't thick like it could chip off and there was no funny smell to it at all all things I was paranoid about. Compared to the worries about Teflon and the fumes from it though, the pre seasoning of cast iron is the least of my concerns. They were clean, ready to use and I loved being able to dig it right out of the box and start using it as soon as it arrived.

It was only received yesterday and so far I've used it twice to cook vegetables and once I've used the lid to fry bacon as suggested by another reviewer. FABULOUS! I will add that I didn't stir anything in these pots. I just set the food in and let it cook in there. Nothing stuck to the Dutch. When everything was done and the pot cooled I simply hosed it off with water and a soapy sponge, then dried it up. Splendid! Paper towels shed in this pot however. It might be better to use a cloth or a rag of some sort that wont leave lint behind.

The lid does not have a knob on the top like most lids you see on a Dutch oven. When I put this lid on the Dutch oven I'm sure not to line up the side handles to the handles on the Dutch so that it's easier to remove the lid for stirring, adding ingredients and peeking in to see how things are coming. The lid seems to fit the same way on the pot no matter which direction you put it on so there's no qualitative reason to line up the handles. Just make sure you protect your hands with oven mitts because this thing does get very hot. I just ordered another lid for it. It's not something I really *need* to do, the present lid works just fine. I just thought it might be nice to have one of those lids with the spiky interior for even distribution of condensation back in to the food as it cooks. The lid that comes with it is smooth inside which is handy for using it as a skillet. In all honesty I'm purchasing this other lid simply because I know it exists, the present lid is perfectly fine so far. I just like having other options and I'm hoping the spike lid I just bought will also fit on the Dutch oven lid. Wouldn't that be cool?

Don't be afraid of this Dutch oven. It's a keeper! I'm really pleased with my purchase.

EDIT:

I finally got the other lid and it fits perfectly with no problems. I'm glad I bought this particular Dutch however and not the other. The lid that comes with this Dutch is ideal for the way I use it. I make short ribs but instead of braising them beforehand I put them in the hot liquid straight from the freezer. The ribs pile up high in the Dutch. The new lid would not fit on top of the meat but the depth of the original lid makes it fit right over it with no problems. I've searched and you can't buy this lid separately, it only comes with this particular Dutch. I'm thrilled with the other lid too but I'm REALLY glad I have this one. Options are A+ in my book. Purchase a steel brush with this pot. I've bought a couple of Lodge cast iron products and they do tend to develope rust. I scrubbed them with a Quickie steel brush and reseasoned them a few times which solved the rust problem. You DO need to season these yourself though. The preseasoning is just a quick dressing to get you started.

It took me 2 weeks to decide upon which product I wanted, after I read a wonderful recipe calling for a Dutch Over. When it arrived, I put it on thee counter and it was another two days before I got up courage to use.

I love pot roast which I make in a roasting pan in the oven. It usually takes at least 3 or 4 hours. So with much trepidation, I began by doing what I usually do, out the heat on high and put the pan on the electric burner.

Into the heated DD oven I poured a small amount of oil , chopped up some garlic and threw it in. I was shocked to see the garlic immediately sizzle and turn black!!!! Not what I am used to how did it heat up so fast? Anyhow I turned the electric burner down to medium low and continued. I dropped in my flour dredged 3 lb. bottom round roast and again -In a couple of seconds it was browned and quick as a wink I browned all of the sides. Something that took forever in my conventional pans.

Quickly I added the onion, carrots, celery and potatoes, Poured in a cup of water and covered. Turned up to medium. No sooner did I finish when the phone rang and an old friend with whom I have not spoken for ages was on the other end. We talked and talked and suddenly I smelled food so quickly wne to the DDO, steam was escaping. I moved the lid and determined it needed more water. However, I noticed something rather amazing...there was a beautiful brown liquid in the pot. My friend and I continued our conversation and after about a total of about an hour and a half, said our good-byes. I went to the DDO pushed the lid aside and once again was amazed! The meat looked and tested done, the potatoes that were on top and in my conventional oven never browned up, but in the DDO they were a wonderful brown coated! (Not to mention the yummy looking liquid in the pot.) I could hardly wait to get some of it all on my plate, and used the liquid as gravy. The meat was perfectly well-cooked not too well , just right. I took a bite and it just melted in my mouth -never happened in my conventional oven...and all of the veggies were cooked to perfection.

Forgive me for going on like this, but I am a veteran cook. I have gone through crock pots and pressure cookers as well as all types of cookware from cheap to heavy stainless steel. Never, in all my years of cooking have I had such an easy, perfect pot roast. Oh, and please, how much electricity do you think I saved between 3 or 4 hours in my conventional oven and about one and a half hours on a stove top burner. I cannot believe I have been so many years without a dutch oven -and I assure you I will take one to my grave.

THANK YOU Lodge Logic. I have purchased pork loin, pork ribs, a beef plate roast -in my twilight years I am embarking on new adventures in cooking!!!!

Thank you again Lodge Logic.

This was a gift for my mother for Christmas. My parents always have the whole family over to their house for Christmas and they are coffee drinkers. This has always been a problem because space limitations and lack of availability of larger coffee makers that would fit in has always been a problem. She'd always have to make 2 pots and eventually, people would wind up with cool coffee since not everyone wanted it at the same time. In comes this Zojirushi SRAG30 Airpot. Now, not being a coffee drinker myself, I did a lot of research in advance. As there wasn't a lot of feedback available for this particular product, I don't know if I just got lucky in picking it or if the limited information was just that accurate, but this thing is literally almost unbelievable. Not only was the coffee made 3 hours before the first cup was pourted still hot when the last cup was poured, but it was hot the next morning, 20 hour later...and still steaming hot the next evening, 30 hours later. This morning, the coffee coming out of it is still apparently steaming. Now while I'm sure it's much cooler than it was when it first went in, the fact that I can still see visible steam rising from what's coming out of it coming up on 2 days later is just amazing. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Now, the scientist in me knows not everyone will get these same results as some external factors most likely played a part in this. For starters, when preparing it for it's first use, I boiled water (raging boil, not just hot tap water) and filled it. I then proceeded to close it up and pump out the hot water which would have increased the pressure of the hot air inside, warming it more. Then after the coffee was put into it, I put it on top of the stove, on which the oven was running periodically throughout the day. I'm sure this helped to keep it hot. However, this was during the winter and a nearby window was open much of the time, so there was also a cooling factor as well.

Overall, I can't say enough good about this product. While not the most extravagant gift I purchased this year, it may turn out to be the best as far as doing what it's meant to do.

I bought this pumper to replace one manufactured by the same company I have had and used for about fourteen years. The earlier model has a glass reservoir. The Zojirushi Stainless Steel Easy Serve (pumper) has a stainless steel reservoir, not all of their models have a stainless reservoir. I perk a pot of coffee, the old fashioned style, every morning and put the coffee into a pre-heated pumper. I drink coffee throughout the day and the pumper keeps the coffee hot all day long. The older model kept fluids hot only about half a day. The unit is easy to take apart and clean. My grandmother had a restaurant in San Francisco for over forty years. We purchased our coffee and coffee related equipment from "Farmers Brothers" and the salesman gave me a great hint about cleaning stainless and glass coffee ware. Use "Seventh Generation" "powdered" Dishwasher soap. It is the same stuff that the commercial coffee suppliers sell as coffee equipment cleaning powder and is much less expensive. You can find it at the following grocery stores: Raley's, Bel Air, and Nob Hill stores. I have also found it at some health food stores as it is considered a "Green" cleaning detergent. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the pot and the pumper tube before using the pumper after you wash it! The bottom line, I REALLY like the pumper and I think you will too!

Does a great job keeping tea or coffee hot. Second day beverage is still warm. Third day, lukewarm. As good as what's in the coffee shops. Only improvement I would like is a wider mouth to make cleaning easier. Would highly recommend buying this product.

I don't think this airport keeps the coffee very hot unless it is filled to the brim each time. It takes almost 20 cups to fill to the top. Maybe I should have looked for a smaller version.

It's a nice sized pan, and the nonstick surface hasn't begun to chip as of yet, usually a nonstick pan is flaking off within a week...so, I'm happy at this point....the weight is nice and it has become my go to pan at this point...

First off, I have to say that anyone who has given this a negative review either didn't receive the same skillet I did or they have made very poor choices with it (rough use with metal spatulas, pouring water in it immediately after use etc..)

I bought this skillet as a gift to mom on Christmas in 2011, and she literally uses it EVERY time she cooks on the stovetop, which is nearly every day/night. I have also used it many times, and I must say that I have never seen such a perfect and truly non-stick skillet. We fry rice in it and don't need to scrape anything out. Just tilt the skillet a little and 100% of of the rice slides right out without any help from a spatula. It's handled fried chicken, thick, boiling sauces and anything else you can think of that might normally stick, and no amount of scraping has ever been necessary for cleaning.

There isn't much else I can say about this except that it performs exactly the way it's advertised. My mom wants a second one of these and would happily toss all of her pots and pans for a full set. I can't knowingly say that this skillet will last forever, but it's still as perfect as it was nearly a year and a half ago when it was new, so I can't imagine it ever losing it's non-stick properties, or at least not in the next few years.

One thing I can't comment on is how the dishwasher might affect it. It doesn't fit in my mom's dishwasher, so it has always been washed by hand.

Considering the success my mom has had, you may want to wash it by hand instead of using a dishwasher, just because that's never been a problem for us.

And, of course, don't use metal cooking utensils when you can avoid it, and never submerge any hot pan in water unless it's your goal to destroy it.

This skillet began losing non-stick properties within the first year. After 2 years it is sticker than my 60-year old Revere skillet.

Honest reviews on Cuisinart Dishwasher Safe Hard Anodized Open Skillet

The price was right, the quality is there. I like how it cooks. Only a couple of things didn't allow me to rate it 5 stars. The first is that the pan is heavy. Not as easy to handle as Farberware. The other thing is just an annoyance. When you cook something like scrambled eggs, it gets on the gromets that hold the handle on. When that happens it is difficult to get it off them and you have to scrub. The pan itself cooks like a dream. The food practically slides right out of it.

I do have to say that I've only had it a few weeks, so we'll see how it holds up over time, but so far I am happy with the purchase.

I love this fry pan so much I got the 10 inch one also and will get the 12 inch when my existing 12 inch wears out. No stick and dishwasher safe the only way to get better is if it makes dinner for you on it's own.

I like chopstocks, and I use them whenever I can, but the one thing I can never seem to get right are noodles, especially the "instant lunch" type in the form cups.

That's where these come in.

I originally bought a set of Holdstix at one of the local grocery stores, and they worked quite well, but the quality wasn't as high as they could have been, and each pair eventually broke after about three months of use.

That's when I discovered this item.

The M-shaped (or W-shaped, depending on your point of view) hinge puts less stress on the joints, so the probability of breakage is far less than in those with a simple U-shaped hinge. Also, these are longer, giving more control and pressure at the tip, allowing for better holding of whatever it is you're picking up. They're also made of a slightly harder plastic, so they should wear much slower. The interior of the tips have a grip pattern molded in, so your noodles (or whatever else you pick up) won't slide out.

Yes, you will be paying a bit more per unit, but it's worth it!

Will these teach you how to eat with chopsticks? No. Only practice will do that. But if you need something to augment regular chopsticks or have the convenience without the frustration, these are definitely the way to go.

I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. For dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This fryer is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). In fact, in this particular chicken fryer, I've produced everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

The best thing about the chicken fryer is its somewhat smaller circumference than the skillet or the Dutch oven. It takes up a bit less stovetop space and provides greater depth, making it ideal for small batches of soups, stews, or deep-fried goodies.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.

I bought this one because I was looking for something to fry various things in without the pot warping (as stainless steel pots do). Since I got this pot, I have been using it to cook all sorts of dishes--soup, stew, reheating rice etc. It's big enough to hold enough fried rice, for example, for 4, and I can pop the entire pot, lid and all, into the oven to keep warm. But it's not so big as to be too heavy to handle.

The best part about this pot is how nicely the lid fits. I was surprised how tight the lid seals the pot. The steam starts to escape only when the liquid in the pot is boiling really hard. The interior of the lid is unusual looking. It is not flat nor smooth. It has a dozen small protruding tips shaped like candy cones. When steam condenses on the inside of the lid, the resulting liquid falls along those tips back into the pot, instead of dripping off the edge of the lid. Ingeneous, I thought.

I find this a very versatile and useful pot. Extremely well made--almost polished for a cast iron pot. It comes seasoned.

Well, no complaints exactly -it's what I ordered and wanted -but be aware of the exact dimensions of the pan. Though measured across the top the diameter of the pan is accurately 10 1/4 in., the sides slope in making the cooking surface a measly 8 in. -kinda small of you're thinking of frying in larger batches.

I was also hoping to double this deep fryer as a frying pan (I saw the higher sides as a bonus, lessening grease splatter), but again the small 8 in. cooking surface limits what I can make ie. too small for bacon. Apparently, Lodge makes a larger fryer -a 5qt 12" sucker -that might be a better choice for a family, but alas, not available (currently) on Amazon.

Otherwise, a great pan, substantial and well made. The lid is a great bonus to have.

Honest reviews on Lodge 3-Quart Covered Chicken Fryer

I flat out love this fryer. I purchased it to replace one of those fancy electric deep fryers. By doing so, I've saved counter space, because this fryer sits on your stove and can be stored permanently on the back of your stove full of grease with the cover on it. It will heat grease fast, and because its cast iron there is an exceptional taste difference in everything you fry. Also, you can use it as a regular pot. If you are assembling just the basics or a dream kitchen, a cast iron Skillet, Grill, and Fryer are a must have. There is no replacement item, or substitute for certain things you cook.

This is a very versatile pot. I've only made chicken in it twice, but everything else also seems to do well. It's an excellent size if you're not cooking for a crowd. I now have 3, 5, and 7 quart Lodge pots with two 2 quart serving pots on order from Amazon and none of my Caphalon Professional or All*clad compares.
