The last time i bought a bread knife, it was 5 bucks at some general store and it was so aggressively serrated and its edge so wide, that it tore up my cutting board and destroyed whatever i was slicing. I think i used it two times before i stopped using it. What a waste of 5 bucks! So for about three years, i used my global santoku for cutting bread (which, let's not lie to ourselves, actually works pretty well *once* you penetrate the crust). Where i was having problems, though, was with slicing up consistent slices of more fragile breads like brioche or really wide loaves of ciabatta that i was buying. For fresh sourdough loaves, a sharp chef's knife works pretty well, though.

I still own a wasabi santoku that i bought in 2006 when i did a stint as a line cook. The knives aren't fancy, but i've definitely put mine through its paces and it's still my go-to knife even though i have much nicer ones at hand. This bread knife is no different in quality. It actually looks like with the Wasabi Black they really went upscale, so you have a bread knife with the aesthetic and engineering of a Shun proper, but with the nondescript stainless steel of those restaurant style bread knives.

In particular, the edge is sharp, but it's not wide, so you can actually get really accurate and thin slices of bread in once slice, if that's how you roll. I noticed other people here talking about using it for carving, which, now that i think about it, makes sense. The knife definitely handles like a slicer, but it's serrated *just enough* to grip bread, but not enough to saw away at whatever you're cutting, so you really have a sharp knife that's serrated enough to poke through really aggressive crusts. I haven't tried carving a bird with this knife, but i'm not surprised that others have had good results.

I had originally considered a more expensive bread knife, but now that seems criminal. I can imagine a more expensive knife would *look awesome* in some way i can't even imagine, but i can't imagine it performing any better than this one.

Some breads have a very hard crust. You can use a bread knife with sharp pointed serrations. But if the inside of the loaf is soft and moist, this kind of knife will tear the bread. The Kai Wasabi black bread knife has sine-wave style teeth that are very sharp, thus it cuts beautifully no matter what texture or mix of textures your dealing with. This is the best one!!

I have a 20-year-old el-cheapo laser-cut bread knife that I have dreaded replacing, as it cuts the smoothest of any bread knife I've ever had. I have tried various replacement knives over the years, but all have had those huge serrations and mangled the bread more than cut it. However, I do believe I've finally found a reasonable replacement! This knife cuts fresh bread quite nicely, and doesn't leave a million crumbs all over the cutting board.

It has a very unusual serration style which is a series of flowing curves instead of sharp points, and a plastic oval handle that is just rough enough so that it doesn't slip in your hands as you use it (a kind of rough velvet texture). My only concern is that if I ever have to have it sharpened, I will probably have to send it away, as the serration style is so unusual. Unlike my Shun knives, nothing came with the knife to say where I could get the knife resharpened if needed, so I would be at a loss. This concern is the reason I did not give 5 stars for the knife.

Even with that taken into account, for the price this is probably the best bread knife you'll find, so I recommend getting it.

Honest reviews on Kai Wasabi Black Bread Knife, 9-Inch

Very large knife 14 1/2 " with handle. And a 9" blade. Extremely sharp. Cuts through crusty bread with no problem. Will handle any job you need a serrated knife to do. I have the Shun Classic knifes , but figured a bread knife didn't need to be $129. Very glad I bought the cheaper version.Highly recommend!

The Kai Wasabi bread knife is an absolute steal of a deal for the knife-obsessed foodie and less-nonsense person alike. From its long-lasting, well-cutting serrations to its dishwasher-safe construction and low price-tag, it outperforms other stamped-steel bread knives while costing less and often looking better.

A very light steeling on the non-ground side will keep the edge fresh for months on end when it eventually needs sharpening, the corner of a hard sharpening stone or using a Spyderco Sharpmaker will bring it back for several more months of service.

If you don't own a bread knife and don't want to spend the massive bucks on a Gude or instruct every user to hand wash and hand dry the knife after every use to avoid harming the steel or handle, but you still want to impress yourself and all other consumers of baked goods, this is the knife to use.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Baking Dish, Cobalt Blue

As a classically trained chef, I have an extensive collection of kitchen items not always found in a typical home. I tend to think of kitchen products from a professional point of view, although I enjoy many items made for home use. Le Creuset is uncommon in professionally kitchens; however they manufacture quality and effective products.

Le Creuset's porcelain enameled cast iron cooking vessels are cast from molten iron formed in single use sand moulds. Covering cast iron with porcelain enamel not only looks good, but has multiple benefits. The enamel, being a solid coating, is one of the most hygienic surfaces to cook on, does not stain, absorb odors, retain flavors, and is easy to clean eliminating the need for seasoning and preventing rust issues. Limit cooking tools to plastic or wood to prevent damaging the enamel.

Cast iron is a highly efficient material which absorbs and distributes heat efficiently. For this reason, it is recommended to use on low to medium heat. There are a few exceptions like boiling water where cooking on high heat is appropriate and okay. Otherwise, cooking with high heat may cause food to stick, discolor the enamel coating, or unevenly cook the food. Cast iron also retains heat, keeping food warm while serving.

The benefits of cooking with Le Creuset cast iron are many, but let's get down to the roasting pan specifically. This pan holds 5 1/4 quarts of food, measures 9 3/4 x 14 x 3 inches internally, and weighs 10.2 pounds. 5 1/4 quarts will typically feed 8 10 people when it comes to casseroles, consider the rectangular baker for smaller recipes. Except for roasts, the roasting pan tends to do best if at least 3/4 full. Any less and you may overwhelm your food with the pan's evenly dispersed heat.

I find the many benefits of Le Creuset make this pan a worthy purchase. This pan adds a desirable crispy texture to dishes like mac-n-cheese. Add the Le Creuset 9 by 11-1/2 inch roasting rack for roasting chickens and pork loins keeping them out of the grease. Some other possibilities for this pan include casseroles, deep dish pizza, pork chops covered with cornbread dressing, dinner rolls, baked squash, lasagna, scalloped potatoes, cobblers, pineapple upside down cake, or bread pudding. The enamel is attractive, while the cast iron keeps the food warm for serving. Cleaning and caring for this dishwasher safe pan is easy. When properly taken care of, this pan will last a lifetime.

One feature that people tend to complain about is the cost. The cost does seem steep compared to other pans made from other materials. Heck, cast iron doesn't seem like it should be expensive when comparing to that old cast iron pan past generations have used for cornbread and camping. However the manufacturing process requires making a mould for each and every pan produced. They then go through the enameling process before shipping these heavy pans. If you take what goes into making and distributing these high quality cast iron products, the cost tends to make sense. Then consider that this pan will easily last a lifetime when taken care of.

Knowing the benefits and the pleasure I get from using Le Creuset, I don't hesitate to recommend this pan. Purchase this pan and use it for its strengths, you won't be disappointed.

PROS:

Efficient absorption and distribution of heat

Hygienic enamel cooking surface

Does not stain, absorb odors, or retain flavors

Easy to clean when not abused or misused

Can be transferred from stove top to the oven to the table

Dishwasher safe

Can easily last a lifetime

CONS:

Its heavy, as cast iron tends to be weighing in at about 10.2 pounds

I debated the merits of a cast iron versus a stoneware baker with the sales person at Le Creuset, and her recommendation of cast iron ws on the mark. I use this pan mostly for lasagna. While some complain of its weight, the even heating and heat retention are worth it.

I love Le Creuset products. They cook very evenly. They can be heavy once the food is in the pot, but very worth it. I am hoping to expand my Le Creuset baking ware in the future. I have three products of theirs now and love them. I highly recommend this product.

I only used it for one month. I coat it with oil before and after each use, it still gets sticky after one month. The dark "natural seasoning"comes off as small pieces, then mixed with my food. After their "natural seasoning" comes off, the pan became very sticky like a stainless pan, and it's not stainless, it's rusty. I'd go back to Starfrit's cast iron pan, even though it costs little more.

I bought this wok to use it on the inner rings of my flat surface stove so than the range hood can suck all the smoke while i am cooking. The size is perfect. The bottom size is 6", which fits the ring perfectly. The top size is perfect too, though i can use a 12" one too. The wok is solid and heavy and can hold up heat. I have used very cheap cast iron pots and cabon steel pots. They are either too heavy or too light. This one is great.

The only thing i dont like is that it seems to have a coating. After we used it the first time, the coating was burned off. I guess it is the seasoning coating. Hope it is harmless.

This wok stays cute on my oven top, suitable for 2-3 person. It is light weight, easy to clean and maintain. It heats up quickly and can get very hot. The vegetable it cooked looks fresh and with good taste. With meat, it did stick a little bit at the beginning, but I think for cast iron it takes time, the more you use it, the less it sticks. For those who have 4-5 people to serve, I would suggest you to try that 14" one. Before buying this one, I was struggling between a carbon steel and light cast iron, finally I decided on cast iron, because a friend shared that she had both of them, both get heat quickly and not stick, but carbon steel more easily gets the vegetable steamed, with more water come out, while cast iron makes food come out dry and still taste juicy.

Honest reviews on Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir Fry

Many people would say nothing beats carbon steel woks. I tend to agree if you have a gas stove top that can handle rounded bottom woks. But for electric top, I encounter problem with a flat carbon steel wok: it loses heat as soon as you lift it up to toss food (losing direct contact with a heat source). I did some research and found that iron cast retains heat better than carbon steel, but iron cast takes longer to heat up. However, this wok overcomes those problems. It heats up quickly and retains heat when I toss food in the air. It is surprisingly light for iron cast, yet very well built. However, don't expect carbon steel lightness here. It is still an iron cast. The handle feels nice and sturdy. Its large flat bottom increases contact surface with heat source. It also comes with 25 year warranty, and the quality seems to last even longer. The wok is pre-seasoned, which save me from doing the work. But as with every steel wok, you need to season it regularly. If you never use wok before or use only stainless steel cookware, you should do some research before buying iron cast or carbon steel woks. They need proper care and maintenance.

In sum, Joyce Chen cast iron wok is a great wok for electric top. I never use it on gas but I bet it performs equally well. I would recommend this wok for those whose stove tops are flat, either gas or electric. If you have the top specially designed to take a wok, then you probably already know what you want anyway.

I recently purchased an induction burner (Max Burton 6200 1800W) which I love, but the problem I ran into was finding a cooking vessel that could take advantage of its heating potential. After some experimentation with various pots and pans, I found that the ones made of carbon steel and cast iron work the best....by far.

I was really happy to find a cast iron wok that didn't weight 75 lbs and was the perfect design (wide bottom). I got it yesterday and was blown away by two things; how light it was and how hot you can get this wok. I used a thermal gun on it and got readings above 800 degrees. Even my carbon steel wok didn't get that hot.

This wok comes pre-seasoned, looks to be well constructed, is priced right and definitely does what a wok is supposed to do...."get rocket hot". If you are looking for a good gift set for that vegetarian cook in your life, get this wok and a good induction burner (they aren't expensive). They'll love you forever.

Purchased at $40, took a chance at such a cheap price, got what I paid for. Heavy, nice outside finish, perfect size. Inside, is where I am disappointed, plastic handle held on by exposed metal screw, white enamel very thin and chipping and bubbling, not a smooth finish or thick, you can see the cast iron through the white enamel, rim on top of post of exposed cast iron is rusting. Is it worth $40, yes, will it last a two years, I doubt it.

I'm not at all sure what you would gain by buying one of these pans at five times the price of this one (and there are some). This one works just the way I want. It browns beautifully with out sticking and you can still deglaze a bit after for soups, stews, etc. It cleans up easily, the lid fits well...not sure just what you would get for more money spent.

It is very heavy...you must use caution on a glass cook top to lift it as you move it...I'm sure a more expensive one would be the same.

I am very happy with it. And I am not a bit shy about writing a bad review when I am not. Love this pan!

This is only my second time cooking in this pot; I'm preparing homemade Taco Sauce for the D.A.V. Suddenly, I realize that I hear a "scraping' sound on the bottom; my worst fears are realized; I dumped the sauce into my S/S pot, and there it was: A HUGE AREA WHEN THE ENAMEL CAME OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE DUTCH OVEN AND IT IS NOW INTEGRATED INTO MY TACO SAUCE. NOT GOOD NEWS; WHAT TO DO? NEEDS TO GO BACK; THIS IS NOT WORTH 40.00; NOT FOR ONLY 2 USES; I THOUGHT I'D HAVE THIS FOR YEARS AND YEARS; AFTER ALL, IT'S "ENAMEL OVER CAST IRON", RIGHT I AM SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED IN THE ABSENCE OF QUALITY IN THIS POT; USUALLY I ONLY USE STAINLESS STEEL, BUT I THOUGHT I'D GIVE THIS A TRY; WELL, NO MORE.

Honest reviews on Heuck 33030 Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron 5 Quart Dutch Oven, Red

The description said that the pot could be used on top of the stove or in the oven. I have used it on top several times and obtained satisfactory results. I used it for the first time in a 350 degree oven (about four months after purchase) and obtained satisfactory cooking results, but now the lid looks horrible because the black knob is deformed with heat bubbles and the mounting screw has loosened the knob from the lid.

I suppose it may be helpful to either remove the knob or wrap it in foil for use in the oven.

I bought a Heuck pot as a cheaper alternative to Le Creuset. When I received it in the mail, I was excited to see how good it looked with it's deep red exterior and pearly white interior. I noticed that the surfaces were a little bumpy, not smooth like Le Creuset, but to me that didn't matter as long as it cooked food well. It did serve me well for about a year or so, but last week the porcelain coating started to break off in fairly big pieces. Granted, it was one fourth the price of a similar Le Creuset pot, but I suspect the Creuset will last much more than just four times the Heuck. Don't buy this pot, get Le Creuset, which you will probably be able to pass onto your heirs.

I recently bought a really great ice cream machine and I happened to be browsing the internet and I saw this waffle cone maker. At first, I thought, "O.K., not another gadget!" but after reading several descriptions of the machine I decided to buy it. Thank God for going with my first mind!! This machine is incredible. After reading the brief instructions, I mixed up my batch of waffle cone mix (Chef's Choice) and set out on my adventure. Spraying a small amount of olive oil onto the heating pads (I always spray oil for the first time of each use) I poured my first coaster-sized amount of mix onto the machine; closed the lid and waited for the appropriate time to elapse. After opening the lid, out came this good smelling circular cone. Immediately, I lifted the cone using a rubber spatula; used the cone roller as indicated and Viola!! A great cone!! Not to mention the wonderful smell permeating my house!!

It took me two tries to get the right amount of mix to make the perfect cone. I had some of the mix slide out the sides of the machine...no problem, just wipe it off. When making your cone fold a small amount at the bottom before you begin rolling the cone; or pinch the bottom of the cone when rolling so that your ice cream will not come out at the end; or put some melted chocolate, butterscotch or caramel at the bottom and let it get hard...a tasty plug!!

The only thing I can think of that would make this one package complete is if the company would supply a rubber spatula, the towel (they mention using) or perhaps a pair of cotton gloves to help roll the cone...it is hot!! However, I really use just my hands. I get a better feel of the roller this way. And, please do not let these couple of items dissuade you from purchasing this machine. That would be terrible. We should all, hopefully, have a rubber spatula and towels!!

Cleaning the machine is a breeze. The non-stick heating pads are greatly appreciated.

I highly recommend this machine. What a great addition to any household that loves ice cream!!

Be Blessed!!

Elegant Wafer Cones

A bit lighter than our gourmet cones, this batter makes a delicate wafer cone. Cake flour ensures the best results. If you use all-purpose flour, you may need to add a small amount of additional oil to the recipe.

Yield: About 8 cones

2 whole eggs

1/4 tsp. salt

2/3 cup granulated sugar

2 tbsp.vegetable oil

1 cup cake flour

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1. Preheat the WaffleCone Express(tm). Start with Color Control setting of 2 1/2 to 3, but change as necessary for best results.

2. Beat the eggs and salt in a small bowl with a fork until well blended. Beat in the sugar and beat until sugar is incorporated and the eggs have lightened in color slightly, about 1 minute. Stir in the oil. Add the cake flour and stir slowly until all flour is moistened. Beat another 15 seconds to incorporate the flour and remove all lumps. Stir in the vanilla extract.

3. Spoon 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) of batter in the center of the iron. Bake for 1 minute then check for proper color. Cook and additional 5 to 10 seconds if necessary.

4. Quickly remove the waffle from the WaffleCone Express(tm) onto a clean cloth towel. If the waffle is too hot to handle with your bare hands, use the cloth to help lift and roll the waffle around the cone form. Hold the cone a few seconds to set its shape then place on a wire rack to cool.

Honest reviews on Chef's Choice 838 Waffle Cone Express Ice Cream Cone Maker

This waffle cone maker was very easy and fun to use. There are numbered settings to determine the color of the cone. There are red and green lights that tell you when to add the batter, how long to cook it, and when to remove the finished product. The waffle cones come out beautifully only after two minutes.

I had recently purchased a nuwave induction cooktop. I had decided not to purchase the cookware that came with it because the cost and the shipping was extreme. You cant buy just any cookware to work with an induction cooktop it has to be made of certain material or it will not work. I had been looking at induction cookware for about a month and the prices were very high every where I looked. I decided to do a search on Amazon and found this cookware. I LOVE IT, it works perfectly with the induction cooktop and my ceramic stovetop. This is the best cookware I have ever owned, it is heavy and made beautifully. I hang them on a pot rack and the lids fit nicely over the handles for hanging. The price in unbelievable for such a nice set that is induction capable and the shipping was fast through FedEx. I would definitely recommend this product for use on any cooktop and anyone out there with a nuwave that doesn't want to pay the crazy amount of money for the cookware that comes with it, DONT, this cookware works perfect and is by far cheaper and nicer.

I have been proud to cook with this set, easy cleaning and even heat, prompt shipping this is a very strong set of cook ware beware of one thing when you open it up you must stare at the quality it took me two days before I got it dirty for the first time and it still shines awesome.

Honest reviews on Cooks Standard NC-00203 Classic Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware

I think supreme quality is an understatement on this set. Superb and flawless is the model I would use to describe. This is beyond top quality. It has heft. It is solid with feel. It will last beyond time. And it looks great. Having carefully read the reviews for this line by Cooks, I saw nothing regarding things sticking as in some of there other sets. Why I do not know, but if you start with low heat, oil the pan and increase heat not beyond medium you should not have the sticky bad thing going down. I don't and so why should you unless you drool a lot in your shoe, and wear foot ball helmets and need full time care as you do not get the concept of starting low. If that is the case, maybe you should chase cars and not cook. Now have cooked in some of the best Casinos out West, saw many a kitchen, hold a degree from Johnson and Wells. And I will say this: This is the same quality of item I had used in industrial kitchens for years but just more glossy for the Betty Crockery population at large in the home. I first cleaned my set with low power dish soap, vinegar and lots of it. You know, get the grit away. I am truly floored by the quality. Over the top if you will. I looked at Magma, but it had faults, I looked at Cuisine heart, and seems the reviews all say poor quality control and issues. I looked at other high priced objects and reviews said issues in red, cutting cost, trading on name, business as usual. And so I take a chance upon this gem. Oh boy, does it rock and shine. And I paid 108. U.S. inflated clown bucks and did I ever get value beyond reason. I seldom submit reviews but this set is way the living end. Just get it, and don't look back. I had to write as I feel so strongly about this particular set. And easy to clean. And if you do burn it? Always a first time. Well, put the pan on the stove with a cup of water in it, clear vinegar, some salt, then simmer, add some baking soda (it will bubble) up and simmer for 10 minutes or less. Then pour off the liquid, use a non abrasive sponge and scrub with more baking soda and vinegar, then rinse and dry well. To season, wipe a coat of vegetable oil in the pan put on low medium heat until the pan starts to smoke, then take off the pan and wipe well and let cool. This works on old pans also. Good luck and happy trails!

Earthen Donabe Clay Pot #CD9/P Review

Earthen Donabe Clay Pot #CD9/P
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I received this pot as a birthday present. The pot arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

I have used the pot a half dozen times or so and I've had great success with it. I read the earlier review and would definitely advise caution. I read several websites and several cook books on clay cooking before I used the pot for the first time.

Following the instructions on the websites and cookbooks, I soaked the pot completely for 4 hours in lukewarm water. Now every time I use it, I soak again for 15 minutes just before use. I use a heat diffuser and heat the pot very slowly. As I understand it, this is necessary for most clay pots.

It takes a bit of extra time but definitely worth it to save the clay pot.

The only reason I'm giving the product 4 instead of 5 stars are the instructions. The details are very sparse. (I think a sentence or two in English) So you'd have to go out of your way to learn about caring for the pot properly.

I upgraded to an Induction stovetop and had to get rid of my old All-Clad MC2 cookware. I wanted to stay with All-Clad and decided on the Stainless steel series because of my experience with All-Clad. I was not disappointed with this pan. It is big enough to cook breakfast (eggs, sausage, bacon) for a family. It is entirely American made (another plus). As well, comes with a beautiful black bag, like a carry case. I always keep the pan in the bag when not in use. Nothing sticks the pan so very little oil is needed (even for over-easy eggs) & clean up is so easy that why use a dishwasher to ruin such a beautiful product? I do want to note that with almost all newer non-stick cookware, it is designed not to be used with high heat. It will damage the non-stick properties. This should not be a deterrent since it heats up fast and evenly with induction that cooking is a snap. If you are used to always cooking on high, stay away from this cookware. Otherwise, highly recommended!

Got tired of eggs sticking in the regular All-Clad pans even with lots of oil and low heat. Now eggs are perfect with little or no oil. Comes with a nylon protective bag.

Tempered Glass Lid 28 cm (11 inches) Diameter Reviews

I purchased this lid because I did not have a lid for my 11 inch skillet. I am very pleased. It fits perfectly and one other feature, the knob handle, lets me slide it in to my oven for storage on a narrow shelf. Many of the handles now stand up higher and that heighth makes it diffcult for storage. Also, I can turn the lid up side down on the skillet and store the whole thing on a shelf. I like it very much and I have used it a lot and run it through the dishwasher many times on the bottom shelf. Good product.

I'm sorry to have to leave this review, but I can't sleep at night knowing that anybody out there could get hurt if I could do something about it.

We bought this lid for a Swiss Diamond 11" induction pan that did not come with a lid. I loved it at first. It was a perfect fit it was not leaking steam, it was easy to clean. Then, after maybe 5 uses, my husband was drying the dishes and noticed the knob was jiggly. So he tried to tighten it a little. As soon as he tightened it, just to the point of the knob no longer jiggling, this lid EXPLODED into a million pieces, leaving half attached to the lid and half all over our kitchen, with one piece injuring my husband. Now, my husband is not a 350 lb dude with giant arms with insane amount of strength, so he wouldn't crush this thing by tightening it. This should have never happened had the product been properly tested. I took pictures of the remains of the lid and would share if anyone is interested (Amazon: allow us to attach pictures to the reviews, not just the products).

I immediately reached out to the seller and asked for a refund. After threatening me and telling me we "misused the product", I finally did get a refund.

I'm sure this is a fine lid if you don't breath on it. Just be warned, that's all.

Honest reviews on Tempered Glass Lid 28 cm (11 inches) Diameter

I received an 11" nonstick pan without a lid as a gift 2 years ago. Do you know how hard it is to find a reasonably priced 11" lid? Thus I have hardly used the pan until now. This lid is a perfect fit, comfortable weight to handle, and stores upside down on the pan without the handle touching/scratching the surface of the pan bottom.

This lid just arrived today, two days after I ordered it with standard shipping.

I needed a lid for an 11" Swiss Diamond pan purchased without a lid. Not only was the SD lid much more costly but multiple reviewers mentioned that the glass broke. That was a red flag because I have other glass lids that have lasted for decades. Swiss Diamond Replacement 28 cm Round Cover for 4.5 Quart Saute Pan and 11-Inch Fry Pan

Preferring glass lids, I decided it would be worth buying this unbranded lid as it had the same measurements and the same lid features (tempured glass, steam vent, stay-cool handle knob). After shipping, it cost less than half the price of the SD lid. If for some reason I replace this lid, I will still save money.

I give it three stars for several reasons. First, it arrived quickly and appears to be what I expected. There are a couple of condition issues. While it fits the pan, it has some horizontal slippage when in place and jiggled side-to-side. Even so, its lip stays on top of the pan edge all the way around even when jiggled. Also the handle knob was loosely attached on arrival, resolved by tightening the screw that holds it in place. I hope it stays tight. Still, I can accept minor weaknesses if it is cheaper and meets my needs. Finally I gave it three stars because it is new and time will tell if the rating is accurate.

I bought this wok because my non-stick wok started flaking and I didn't want to season a carbon steel wok. After reading so many reviews about apartments filling with smoke due to seasoning a wok, I wanted something that I can start cooking with easily. The wok was nicely packaged when delivered and came with instructions on how to prepare it for its first time use. First, you have to cook off the food-safe clear lacquer coating by heating oil on it and rubbing the wok with paper towels (sounds A LOT like seasoning a wok...). The lacquer was kind of hard to get off in some places and I tried heating oil and rubbing four or more times. There still seemed to be a little lacquer left on the sides of the bottom no matter how hard i scrubbed (but you can't scrub it with anything hard because you'll "rub off the seasoned coating"). So I gave up and just decided to cook with whatever of the lacquer was remaining because I was tired of heating oil and the lacquer's supposed to be food-safe. Other than that, the wok seems to be fine now. Steaming and boiling foods is not recommended in the wok because it will "ruin" the pre-seasoned coating. You also cannot wash it with soap or it will "ruin" the coating, so you should rinse it under hot water, rub it with a soft sponge or something, dry it by heating it on the stove, and coat it with a little oil before storing it away. It's a bit high maintenance compared to a non-stick wok, but at least you don't have to replace it as often (unless it starts to rust because you ruined the coating.)

So I figured that perhaps the other reviewers were doing something horribly wrong with this wok and I decided to purchase it despite the bad reviews below.

Well, I knew that food may stick, since it's a carbon steel wok without any coating and while it's seasoned, it will need to be kept "lubed up" to work properly.

So when this thing arrived (the 2nd attempt as the first was missing the main handle that fell out of the box during shipping from Amazon) I followed the instructions attached and attempted to remove the "protective coating".

I heated some oil in the wok and tried to remove it but to no avail. The coating became gunky to the point that a oil coated paper towel was sticking to it leaving paper particles stuck to the coating. Wooden spatula was not helping either and the coating basically was stuck to the majority portion of the inside of the wok.

I finally gave up and tried lightly sanding it with a 600 grit sandpaper, knowing that since it's steel, I won't be harming anything anyway. What a surprise it was when after couple of strokes of the sandpaper, the surface of the sandpaper turned black and the blue hue of the "steel" inside the wok started giving way to a more familiar silverish color of the bare steel. I got really angry as apparently the blue hue turned out to be some kind of coating that covers the entire work. Worse, the coating was coming off as a black dust when sandpaper was used.

I didn't feel like returning this wok, since I expected a carbon steel, bare wok so I just continued with the sandpaper. After over an hour of hard sanding I finally got it to a shiny bare steel on the inside of the wok. We still cook in it and it actually is quite non-sticky when oil is used for stir frying.

If you're not prepared to sand down your wok, stay away.

Similair to another review, the food-safe lacquer coating was an unbelievable chore to remove even after multiple attempts on my gas stove--and following the accompanying instructions. Much of the lacquer is still there and gummy. I'm also suspicious that it's actually "food safe" lacquer (I don't believe everything manufacturers claim). It smelled much like the chemicals I've used when refinishing furniture.

In trying to get away from peeling non-stick surfaces, I selected this wok because of it's "pre-seasoned" surface and for it's flat bottom and big handles. It's a light, easy to handle wok and the price is affordable as well. However, upon arrival, the big handle was wobbly(helper handle firmly attached). After trying it a couple of times with fried rice and pad thai, I found the cooking surface to be sadly disappointing. Food sticks terribly and requires large volumes of oil yeilding a greasy finished product. I have seasoned 3 cast-iron skillets over the past 20 years, and though they're heavy, I think I'm going back to them and tossing this wok.

We followed instructions on how to get ready before first use. FORGET IT! It did it did not work.

WE had to do three times and the WOK now looks very old and not worth the time I researched to purchas it.

The item came without its own packaging...just thrown in a large box with the other items I ordered. It was also without the long handle. Was a gift and person who received it may have a handle from an old wok to use that would work. Just disappointed in general.

I just got this and I love it. The stock pot with steamer insert is BIG I think 7 qts. the skillet in nice and big the pans are great and since green is my fav color its really a plus for me that was one of the factors in buying this. It is very non stick and easy clean up. I have been using t-fal for 20 years. I won't buy any other non stick.

I am thoroughly enjoying my new cookware! There are two things that I really like about it. 1. It has the T-fal coating inside and out, so the outside is easy to keep clean. 2. With the silicon handles, you can bake in it up to 350 degrees. I put meat in the larger skillet, put it in the oven to bake, then take it out (don't forget the handle is HOT!) and finish cooking it on the stovetop. Or you can just take it out of the oven and keep it warm on a burner. I also like the lime green handles. Highly recommended.

I have a complete set of Circulon Symmetry and I bought this to complete my set. I use this pan quite a bit because it is evenly weighted and the perfect size for a one pot meal for 2-4 people. The lid is a plus and is very sturdy. I've dropped some of the lids and they have held up to a lot of abuse such as falling off the counter, etc. without any damage. This pan has all the same features as my Symmetry set -----a wonderful non-stick interior and exterior which cleans up with a swish in warm, soapy water and an interior that heats up quickly without annoying cold and hot spots and the lid that fits perfectly that provides a window to observe the cooking process. It even has a small handle that can be used to hang it from a rack, unlike my other fry pans.

The only negative is don't put this in a dishwasher. My Dawn powerpac left a nasty film on my other pans in this series.

I purchased this pan from the Circulon website instead of through Amazon. The price was close to the same, they had a 'sale' on the item. I also have ordered the 11 piece set (through a company I will never order from again) but have not yet received that set. I am getting these because I remodeled the kitchen and installed an induction range. My review is based on the cookware's performance on a GE Profile induction range. I had Circulon before, but my anodized aluminum set would not work on my new range, and my wish to purchase Circulon again shows I like the cookware.

This pot is big. I expected that, and I wanted that. Induction ranges work based on magnetic energy transfer through a ferrous based metal cookware item. So far, sounds good, right? Well, this pot, as I said is big, and the largest 'burner' on the induction range is about the same circumference as the pot. HOWEVER, the pot has a much smaller than the size of the pot stainless steel surface (about 6.5 inches, the size of a regular bread and butter plate) that actually comes into contact with the induction cooktop. Induction ranges are structured so that the size of the pot must relatively closely 'fit' the size of the 'burner'. This pot will not activate the largest burner on my GE Profile induction range (a large iron skillet and another large stainless steel pot work well on the large 'burner'). It will work on the smaller 'medium' size area, meaning I am limited to choices for other pots when I use this one. Cooks well on the medium 'burner'. Circulon performs like no other cookware, and I like it. This pot simply missed the mark with the large size, sloped sides and tiny (by comparison) diameter of the actual heating surface. I eagerly await the arrival of my full set from the company I will not use again (purchased early February, charged card mid February, set will not even be shipped until April...????)

This pot needs to be redesigned without the sharply sloped sides so that a full size stainless steel plate will come into contact with the induction cooktop, otherwise, you miss out on the great performance of the quick heat / near instant off attributes of induction cooking.

Circulon has different product lines and it is important to make sure you get the chef pan that meets your needs. The Symmetry Chef Pan is designed for more casserole type dishes which you may not want as much surface heat directly touching the bottom of the pan. I make a milk base soup in this pan for example. Really I see it as multipurpose but the Infinite line is what they describe as a more durable chef pan it has a larger surface base. I like both. Stainless Steel encapsulated base, large handles, anodized non stick, clean up is a breeze. Excellent pans both Symmetry and Infinite! Its hard to find a 6 quart in this style of pan it truly is family size.

Honest reviews on Circulon Symmetry Hard Anodized Nonstick 6-Quart Covered Chef Pan

Excellent pan, I originally wanted the larger and much heavier frypan with lid, which has a larger base on it. I am extremely happy with this though, its non-stick bottom is amazing and the smaller base fits perfectly on our stovetop (not alot of room for enormous frypans). If you do want to brown your meat etc you just need to do it in a couple of batches as the pan is very deep rather than wide. I found the weight really great to handle, I could still pick it up with one hand, whereas the frypan is much heavier and you need to use both hands to lift it.

Shipping to NZ was very speedy and item arrived perfect.

I purchased the black one to match 2 other pans that I already had. The hard anodized is the best for cooking evenly and so easy to clean. I used to purchase cheapie non sticky pans but if you want quality do not hesitate. I also love the fact that we can use metal utensils and the 6-qt size is just right!
