There's no doubt that the Rosle is extremely good--in fact, I would have given it five stars just a few weeks ago. But then I purchased the Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Garlic Press (#2315), after reading a recent review of it in Cook's Illustrated. After repeatedly comparing the two side-by-side, the Kuhn is unquestionably the better press. It's also about $8 cheaper here on Amazon, but that's just a bonus--I didn't consider price for this review.

What's strange is that the crushing mechanisms appear to be identical. In fact, prior to crushing with the Kuhn, I felt disappointed when I received it, convinced that I had just bought the same garlic press twice. However, for whatever reason (and it remains a mystery to me), the Kuhn's crushing of garlic is clearly superior in two ways: 1) It produces a more beautifully consistent mince of the garlic, whereas the result from the Rosle seems more "smashed" by comparison. The difference isn't subtle--I was honestly shocked by it. 2) The pressing is more complete, with less left behind in the hopper, and it presses unpeeled garlic better, as well. (That said, I get a much better press from either unit with peeled cloves.)

Ergonomically, the shape of the Kuhn also handles better, although I never had a problem with the Rosle. And I'd say both units have stainless steel construction of equally high quality. For me, it was the crushing performance and not the handling that has sadly relegated my Rosle to the drawer, since I now always reach first for the Kuhn.

Wow! I just used my Rosle garlic press for the first time today. I cant believe how easily the unpeeled garlic went right through the holes. One good squeeze was all it took, the garlic almost squirted out. All that was left inside the press were the skins. This is a beautiful piece of engineering, made of heavy duty stainless steel. It seems to be a very durable kitchen tool. A breeze to wash, the garlic rinsed off easily under running water.



This item is a little expensive but I feel like it was worth the price. After fighting with inferior presses for many years, I finally found a great one. I like the Rosle garlic press so much I just ordered three more, one for each of my children.

There are garlic presses and then there is the Rosle. Renders plump, firm cloves of garlic into a juicy, pulverized mass with a satisfying crunch that could only come from the mind of an obsessed German industrial designer. As beautiful as it is functional, the stainless steel press crushes so well, there is little pulp left to clean. What remains is removed easily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and some dish soap. Expensive, but likely the last garlic press you'll ever need to buy.

This garlic press looks stunning, just like the rest of the Rösle line. I love the shiny finish and the hooks on each tool.

However, don't judge this book by its cover. I am very disappointed with how this tool works. It smashes up the garlic and much of it gets stuck inside the press creating a lot of waste. It is also difficult to clean, requiring a lot of rinsing to get all that stuck garlic out.

This is the first time I have been disappointed by Rösle. Too bad.

This impressive piece of hardware feels like anything but a kitchen tool more like surgical or scientific equipment.

I've owned several cheaper garlic presses and rarely used them. The amount of time saved in the kitchen was lost when trying to clean the gadget.

By contract; The Rosle press works flawlessly and cleans easily. This is the only Rosle tool I own most of the rest seem either over-engineered or impractical.

The genius lies in the flip-up press plate that allows you to instantly clear the plate and load another clove.

Bottom line: This is a tool that will get used, since it works flawlessly and stays clean easily.

These work terrifically for me. I hang all of my pans on a rack over the sink with them. It probably creates (out of thin air!) the amount of space that would otherwise fill 2 deep drawers. Having them at an angle was useful for me to be able to fit so many pans on them I first tried the straight hooks, and couldn't hang as many pans in the space with them.

Perfect for the hammered steel pots and pans, small corner rack by Enclume. I doubled the use I get out of my rack by rearranging the pans to nest starting at back corner angle and coming forward. This is an important tool for expanding my small kitchen.

These pot rack hooks hold my heaviest antique cast iron pans with ease, and look attractive while doing so. I often double-up on one hook and there is no bowing or indication of strain. Even when heavily loaded, the hooks are easy to move about (slide left or right) without threat of the hook coming off the rack or the pots off the hook. This order was to supplement my inventory (several sets) of the hooks and none have rusted or discolored over many years of use. Enclume is the best quality pot rack system I have used (in stainless steel) and I highly recommend without reservation.

I purchased an Eclume pot rack a few months ago and love it but it did not come with enough hooks and/or pointing the right way. This was to help organize my kitchen and make additional space in my cabinets. It really does the job. The new additional hooks make a big difference. Matching pots and pans pointing in the same direction in graduated sizes.... nice. And they don't sit in one another to scratch the finish.

All I wanted was a travel coffee mug with a handle. That's all. Unfortunately, I just could not find one in my town, so I finally bit the bullet and ordered one on-line. Boy, am I happy I did!

The Trudeau has a lid that can withstand, well, me! The first day I used it I accidentally dropped the durn thing down a flight of stairs. IT DIDN'T LEAK OR BREAK!!! That INSTANTLY makes it the best travel coffee mug I've ever used. It just doesn't leak!!!

Now, I do feel I should warn everyone that it doesn't keep my coffee hot for hours. It starts cooling off about an hour after I fill it. That's not a big issue for me (I'm WAY more concerned about leakage than temperature) but I saw that other folks were really annoyed by that.

All in all, this is the best travel coffee mug I've ever had. I wish I had a dozen!

I ordered two of these mugs and they arrived very fast and keep my coffee hot for about two hours. The main reason I bought these is because I got tired of washing those complicated 8hr mugs with their fancy lids. So far I am happy with this mug. The downside is that it is plastic inside, not stainless steel.

I've read close to 20 different mug reviews before ordering this one. I needed an insulated, easy to hold, lightweight mug that would fit in a car cup-holder.

Pros:

easy to clean

lightweight

spill proof

fits into a standard cup-holder

comfortable handle

non-skid bottom

Cons:

mug has to be tipped over almost vertically when it's half full for the liquid to come out

the pink paint already came of from contact with cup-holder after being in the car 3 times

the insulation keeps tea hot for 30 mins or so

you need to use both hands to open the cover

seal needs to be aligned perfectly if you're planning on drinking while holding the mug by it's handle.

I will keep this one for at home use and keep looking for another alternative.

What first caught my attention were the removable handles: my storage is tight; so this is a bonus. These pieces have a substantial, well-balanced feel. I really wanted this cookware to work on my induction cooktop. One could argue they do work,but not very well. I have other induction cookware so I conducted a test with one pint of water to see how long to bring to the boil. Result: all the pans take nearly 5 minutes to come to the boil whereas my stainless steel pans take about 2.3 minutes. So there is the dilemma. I like the pans, they are well made and have a very nice 'feel' and they may work very well on conventional cooktops. But they are supposed to be suitable for induction and people buy induction hobs for the speed not just to work. Reluctantly I think I will have to send them back and look elsewhere.

I love this fondue set! It is the perfect size for our small family of three. It retains heat well, uses less oil than larger ones do (only 3 cups), melts chocolate like a dream (and without scorching), is less expensive to operate because you can use liquid fuel instead of the costlier gel (which doesn't get as hot), and is made well in general. I like the way the handles are made of enameled cast iron and can endure the same temperature as the whole fondue pot and won't deteriorate before the pot will. Plus, the handles extend from the fondue pot adequately to allow you to carry it securely from oven/stove to burner. They do get hot though so be sure to use potholders. The base plate is made of grooved cast iron and helps to stabilize the rechaud. It is not dishwasher safe, nor are the edges around the top of the pot sealed with enamel, which means you'll have to handwash and dry the set when you're through, but it cleans up well and shouldn't rust if you care for it properly. I initially ordered a Swissmar Montblanc (selling for more through Amazon and substantially more through other Amazon stores) and feel this product is superior in workmanship. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again and I think you'll be pleased too (especially if you're looking for value for your dollar).

Man that lady gets on my last nerve but the fondue pot is OUTSTANDING!! We did a lot of fondue in my house growing up and we had one of the old Swiss copper ones which meant my mom had to make the fondue in a sauce pot THEN transfer the finished product to the copper pot. This one from Ms. Ray goes from stove to table all in one!!! I have used it about 15 or so times since I got it a year ago and it's great fun every time!! Do purchase this pot... trust me. I'm a fondue expert.

my wife and i put this on our registry and the both times we used it, it was a huge let down.

the first time didn't get hot enough. and the second time it did get hot enough be we had to down the cheese as fast as possible. Even with how fast we consumed the cheese fondue, it wasn't fast enough because there was a good 1/4 inch of burnt cheese at the bottom. spend the little bit extra to get a good one.

Discount Homichef 4.2 Quart High Stainless Sauce Pan

This pan is a very tough, sturdy and heavy sauce pan. It looks great, is made of good heavy stainless steel and cooks well and evenly. One obvious downside is that the lid does not come with the pan, so make sure you remember to order that if you want a lid for the pan.

In spite of the seemingly high quality of the pan, I did deduct a star because you don't exactly get what was advertised. The description clearly states the handle is attached with rivets, however it is actually only welded to the pan at 6 points. The welds seem sturdy enough and we have had other pans for over 15 years with only 4 such welds, so I'm not too worried about it, however when the details of the pan on the site clearly misrepresent the product I do have to dock some points for that. I don't know if Homichef or Amazon is responsible for the mistake in the product information, but it should be corrected.

Review of Guzzini Latina 11-Inch D Salad Spinner

Made in Italy. After reading several of the reviews for a number of different salad spinners, I opted for Guzzini Latina 11-Inch. The product was sold through Silver & Crystal Gallery which provided great service. They did inidicate that it would take a number of days before the product was shipped, but for the great price they offered and very reasonable shipping cost, it was well worth the wait. In the 90's my best friend bought a salad spinner and told me repeatedly, it was one of the best buys she ever made as it worked great. I had never owned one, but now live with someone who eats salads every day. We like a big salad with all kinds of vegies in it and this 11 inch spinner is perfect. I can make a very large salad that stays fresh for a number of days. Even my significant other noticed the difference in the freshness of the salad. The spinner itself is very sturdy. The way the lid fits to the scalloped edges of the basket, works really well. The bowl is lovely on the table. Thanks to the people who reviewed this product and to the person who let it me the country of origin was Italy. They influenced my purchase of this product and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Having never owned a salad spinner before I was really skeptical and didn't know what to expect. Especially after getting input from my daughter who said they were all a waste of money. The whole design and idea is very cute, but what I didn't like was when I poured the egg into the mold, the egg didnt just say in the mold like the picture, but sorta "leaked" from little parts from below the mold didnt lay completely flat on the ground. Other than that I am happy with my product :)

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this based on some of the more negative reviews, but finally figured I'd give it a try. The first time I used it, I was disappointed, almost to the point of wanting to return it. Then I started thinking things through, and decided to give it another try, making some changes. Second time around, I planned ahead, used fresh meat, prepped the fillings in advance, and worked assembly-line fashion, and the investment in time paid off. So, bottom line is this is not a dream machine, but if you're willing to do some advance planning and prep, it's perfectly serviceable and does what it's designed to do.

Here are my tips and suggestions:

1. use only fresh meat not previously frozen. The previously-frozen meat has a different consistency and will not mold & form, and stick to itself properly.

2. Prepare the fillings before you start making the burgers. Depending on what you use, mix the fillings together so you only need to put 1 scoop in each burger instead of fiddling with multiple fillings. I used cheddar and jalapeno chopped and mixed together.

3. If you use a hard cheese, don't grate it finely. Use the big holes on a grater or else dice it. Very finely grated cheese melts and disappears into the burger while cooking leaving an empty space behind.

4. The device is not nonstick, no matter how the manufacturer describes it. Even spritzing the mold with nonstick spray doesn't keep it from sticking. (This is where it lost a star.). Take a few minutes to cut or tear squares of waxed paper or parchment paper to line the molds and separate the prepared patties. It's worth it... I found I could re-use the top piece over and over, leaving the bottom piece to separate the patties as I made them.

5. I think this is most efficient if you make up a bunch of burgers at once, and then freeze for later. I bought a huge warehouse tray of meat, and ended up with 10 nice fat burgers in about 1/2 hour, including the prep and cleanup time. (This worked out to about $1.60 per burger, well worth it, IMO)

6. If you have a kitchen scale, use it to portion out the meat. Instructions say to use 3 oz. per mold, and it really did make a difference when I weighed out 6 oz, then split it in half.

7. The extra piece that's supposed to make an indentation in the bottom burger is pretty much a joke. When you press the meat into the bottom mold, just make a shallow depression in the center it saves a step, and the meat doesn't stick to your fingers the way it does to that extra piece. Make sure that the filling isn't too close to the edges or it won't make a good seal.

Does this all sound sort of complicated for something as simple as a burger? Yes. Definitely. But it really is only a few extra minutes of work, and makes the job go by much more quickly and efficiently (and I like the idea of just being able to pull a few burgers out of the freezer as I plan on using them). I think once you use this a few times, you'll get the hang of it, and be able to make a bunch of stuffed burgers without much fuss. Yes, it could be better, but it's pretty decent for the price.

Having a number of these Silkomart UFO lids, there is little negative to find. The numerous sizes available make it easy to find the right size. They are great for steaming and all kinds of cooking. They store so easily that I have discarded the heavy lids which came with my pots and pans. The rectangular lid worked on the glass cooking dishes for baking and storage. The lid tends to suction on the pan or dish for storage. They are a great cover for the microwave and are dishwasher safe.

This roaster is large and it gets the job done. I made 6 Cornish game hens at one time in this Cuisinart Roaster. They cooked up perfectly, in a sticky marinade, and nothing stuck to the bottom of the roaster. Made dinner and clean-up breeze!
