Set arrived and is for the most part an excellent set of stainless steel pots and pans with Chef Gordon's name emblazoned upon them. Having been a fan of his shows, which are predicated on Chef Ramsay's unyielding eye for quality, I thought these items would be top notch.

For the most part they are any damage I can throw at them (burnt on foods, etc.) can be easily and quickly negated with a healthy application of bon ami. These have become my go-to pieces in my cooking arsenal.

The one minor flaw is that one of the lids arrived without the handle having been properly attached to the lid. The grommet connecting one end of the handle to the lid was unfinished, meaning it quickly came off and allowed the handle to rotate on the one grommet that was properly installed. This lid is essentially useless, and was rejected by Amazon to be handled by Royal Doulton, who has chosen to remain mum on my inquiries to have this shoddily constructed lid replaced.

Otherwise a wonderful set of cookware that functions (and cleans) extremely well that would likely garner a top notch review. Only wish RD would stand behind their products and repair the one errant lid in the set.

Best Deals for CorningWare Etch 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish

I ordered the CorningWare Etch 3-quart baking dish as a late Christmas gift for my daughter and got expedited shipping as we were going to visit my daughter in another city a day after receiving the dish. The dish arrived on time and the box looked fine, but when I opened it and began taking it out of the box, I realized that one end was broken all the way across the dish and this while it was still securely wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap. Of course, there is really no way to say who, if anyone, was resposible, but it did cause us to have to purchase a substitute of a different brand locally. I realize things like this happen once in awhile, but, of all the items I have ordered from Amazon, this is the first and when Amazon was contacted, they issued a pick-up order to UPS and the order was picked up promptly the next day and a refund was issued very promptly. It was unfortunate that the dish was broken, but Amazon did everything they could to quickly take care of the problem.

There was a reason our grandparents always had a #2 washtub around because it comes in handy for soooo many tasks and needs. Washing out a mess of greens? No problem! Need a sitz bath? No problem! Handwashing fine lingerie? No problem! This is a home essential and I'm so glad we finally found it.

I have a bad back and I'm very tall, so standing at the sink is a real pain. This dishpan is perfect. It's HUGE, so even large items fit in it. Now I don't have to lean over the sink to wash dishes. It's also very attractive and very durable, so it's great for hauling a big salad to a party. My kitchen is done in antiques, so it looks fabulous full of rolls at a big dinner, or just leaning against the wall in the corner.Granite Ware 15 Quart Dish Pan with Handles

The product was marvelous. A little smaller than what I would have liked it to be. The side-handles make it a delight to move when full. I bought two, initially, and the uses are too many to list. My sister-in-law bought one after seeing me use mine. This pan is useful in unimaginable ways ... even as a large mixing bowl, and for collecting spill-over dishes when the dish washer is full. A great Utility!Columbian Home 6416-4 15QT White Dish Pan

Honest reviews on Granite Ware Dish Pan with Handles

The pan itself is okay. I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks extra for a bit thicker steel for better heat dissipation, though.

However, there is a big issue with packaging of this item. Amazon ships it in 2A6 box where the pan barely fits. The first one I ordered arrived in bubble wrap but, because of the tight fit between the pan and the box, the bubbles around the edge of the pan were deflated. As a result, one of the edges of the pan was bent and the porcelain coating chipped/cracked at the bend. I requested a replacement the replacement came in the same box type with no bubble wrap around the pan at all just some paper thrown into the box. Fortunately, it was in somewhat better condition the edge was slightly chipped, but not bent, and the chipping is on the outside so porcelain touch-up can be used to repair it (the touch-up should not come in contact with food).

I love this pan. It is just like the one my Grandma used to use. It has many uses washing dishes or your hair, holding and mixing ground meat while making sausage, soaking your feet after a rough day, baking a large turkey, raising large batches of dough, etc. It is very easy to clean and easy to cool or heat quickly. Would recommend it to anyone who needs/wants a pan like this.

These pots and pans fit perfectly on the burners of my daughter's new KidKraft kitchen. I looked all over for a nicely sized stainless steel set, but almost all of them are miniaturized or too small to accommodate life-size play food. This set is fantastic and works really well with the Learning Resources Food sets. I've uploaded a photo which shows the egg from their Breakfast series sitting perfectly in the frying pan.

The materials of this set are lightweight, but everything feels surprisingly sturdy. The ladle is the only thing thing that feels a bit too chintzy and easily bendable. These also look/sound like real pots and pans (well...a cheap set anyways), which is exactly what I wanted. My daughter hasn't raided my cookware cupboards once since we gave this to her.

Overall, I highly recommend this for someone who doesn't want to go with wooden or primary/pastel colors for pots and pans. The price is good considering the quality & number of items you receive and the dimensions are ideal for a KidKraft or similarly sized play kitchen.

Cheap Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection Tool Jar

Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection Tool Jar, Gold Antiqued Finish
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I know, I know, dimensions are always included in product descriptions, but I always have a hard time wrapping my head around what size something actually is. I've been disappointed before when items are smaller than expected, and I figured when this crock arrived I would have to throw out half my utensils. Not so! This thing is huge! It held all my stuff, with enough room left over that I don't drag half of them out when I try to grab a spatula. It's also plenty wide and heavy that it stays put when you pull out your utensils. I bought this and the spoon rest in gold, and the canisters in red, and I have that nice Fiesta look for a fraction of the price. Definitely a good buy!

The Signature tool jar, Sorrento pattern, is the perfect compliment to the canisters. I purchased this pattern in Ruby and the color is vibrant without being fire engine red. It is a wide mouthed jar, so will hold quite a few tools. I get compliments on this stoneware every time someone comes into my home.

Like another reviewer, I liked this tool jar, but found it was not the color pictured; in particular, it did not match the gold Sorrento canisters and spoon rest that I ordered. The others were a fairly uniform yellow Dijon mustard color, as in the photos, but this piece, also described as gold, was more of a slightly orangey gold color, like the old appliance color known as harvest gold. Otherwise it is lovely and of a generous size. I am disappointed that I have had to return it. It would be great if the manufacturer offered a set including the canisters and tool jar, to ensure that everything matched.

Very pretty style and very sturdy but the color was not true to the picture on the website. I ordered burgundy and it was more a dusty rose pink. I returned it for a refund.

Cheese omelet, boldly browned? No problem: the omelet glides smoothly to the plate. Measured by non-stickness, this is the best pan I've tried, and I've tried a lot.

The pan spreads heat well. It feels kind of light-weight, so I'm not expecting to pass it down to my grandchildren. I've had it for only a month, but so far, it's a total champ.

Nicely made pan and beautiful color. The handle has a good grip and is not slippery.

The nonstick surface is very easy to clean

I am careful to use wooden tools and to

be gentle with the cooking surface.

Nothing sticks at all. I do preheat carefully so it does not overheat. Good browning occurs with med low heat on my glass top stove.

I cooked a salmon fillet with no fat at all and it did not stick.

Eggs almost leap out of the pan! Ditto cheese omelet. Yes, I did put a tiny bit of butter---

I do wish lids were available.

I have had no problem with buildup of any kind

and have used this pan almost daily for at least ten days.

Hand wash in a flash with detergent and a miracle cloth and hand dry.

Store where it will not get scratched by other cooking equipment.

I received the 11" fry pan through the Amazon Vine program, and I loved it! I ordered it because it is beautiful to look at. And I was so happy with that pan that I ordered this 8" version which I also love. The red color is really striking, and the fry pan performs as well as it looks. It is very comfortable to hold. The handle fits perfectly in my hand. There is just enough heft to feel substantial, but isn't too heavy to manage. It heats evenly. I've fried & scrambled eggs, fried halved-hotdogs, grilled sandwiches, sautéed zucchini (you get the idea) and nothing, but nothing not a bit has stuck to the pan. It wipes clean with a paper towel, although I do hand wash it with soap and water. I followed instructions and pre-oiled the pan before its first use, but since then I've given it no special care. You cannot go wrong with this one!

This is the classic size Dutch Oven that is used by boy scouts, girl scouts, chuck wagon cooks, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. My review is mostly limited to the outdoor uses of this wonderful classic dutch oven, but I use one at home as well. This model is a #12 dutch oven which is the "standard" size most commonly used, but there many sizes bigger and smaller. This one holds 8 quarts, measuring 12" in diameter by 5" tall. It has the tripod legs and a recessed lid best suited for cooking in coals. But those legs make it harder to use in a conventional oven, you need to maneuver the legs if possible onto your grill rack. They make a legless version with the domed lid for a home oven, and I have used it in a fire as well. On this model, you can even flip this lid over and use it as a skillet in a pinch if you need to in camp. You can do it all with a Dutch Oven cobblers, stews, beans, roasts, dumplings, you name it. It is the ultimate "one pot" pan.

QUALITY: There is a reason you can find old cast iron pans in antique stores, it lasts forever. I have quite a few pans and stuff inherited from family members and even some garage sale finds. I have found pans rusted and abused to where they would head for the trash bin if they were made of anything else, but you can bring cast iron back with some elbow grease and a re-seasoning or two. While my modern expensive non-stick cookware seems to last no more than a few years before replacement in my kitchen, but this stuff can easily last many decades of daily use. Lodge has a life time warranty! I love to cook with cast iron even at home, it is so durable, but I can take it camping too. Easy to clean up, the only drawback being it is heavy and hard on your wrists as you get older. Cast iron takes a bit longer to heat up, but the heat transfers very evenly without hot spots and it retains its heat for a long time. It can go from stovetop to oven with ease. Do not use it at temperatures higher than 500 degrees, as it can crack. I am not sure why, but people swear certain foods just taste better in cast iron. I believe that cast iron only improves with use and proper care instead of wearing out like other pans. As for Lodge, there really is a big difference in quality, their current pans are noticeably better than the other brands.

SEASONING FINISH: Seasoning of cast iron cookery does not refer to flavor, but the finish, a kind of glaze on the pan. I love old pans because they have the best seasoning, the older the better. I have inherited many old pans. The modern version sold here is "pre-seasoned" and ready to cook in, but we used to have to season these ourselves in the old days. It needs to stay black and a bit shiny inside to stay seasoned. If you do lose your seasoning due to rust or an overaggressive cleaning, simply wipe it with oil inside and out and place it in a hot oven for about 20 minutes or so. Let it cool in the oven slowly and naturally to room temperature again. It also helps to wipe it with a paper towel of oil after cleaning, or spray it with cooking oil and wipe. If it gets rusty, re-season it, you can get it like new again. DO NOT cook on it without re-seasoning though, as the food will stick. A note on what type of oil to use for seasoning, if you can do so use bacon grease, lard or butter, vegetable oil can sometimes get a little sticky in the pan and does not seem to get enough glaze as the animal based fats in my experience.

CLEANING: There is a debate on the cleaning of cast-iron that is as old as the pans, as to whether to use soap or not and how that affects sanitation. The Lodge company recommends cleaning without soap, but some people do so under certain circumstances. To clean without soap wash it with hot water or boil hot water in it and scrub it with a long handle brush or plastic scrubber, but never a metal scrubber as you can scratch the seasoning glaze. If you do use soap be sure it is very mild, maybe just dip your scrubber in the dishwater but don't immerse your pan in it. Immediately drying the pan is critical to its care either way, as soon as you clean the pan hand dry it with a paper towel and re-oil the pan immediately. For the most part, cast iron is non-stick as long as it is seasoned. If you use the pan on a fire, you can get soot on the exterior. An old Boy Scout trick to keep the exterior clean of soot if used on a campfire, is to treat the pan prior to cooking in the following manner. First wipe the pan (exterior only!) with some wet soap or a wet SOS pad, then let it dry before using it on the fire. Then when you are ready for washing, the soap has laid a protective layer over the exterior surface and the soot just wipes right off when you clean up with water.

ACCESSORIES: There are plenty of terrific Dutch oven and cast iron cook books here at Amazon.com. You can also get videos/DVD on Dutch Oven cooking like the one with Cee Dub. You can get affordable accessories too such as a Dutch oven tote bag, tongs, lid lifter, lid stand, and gloves. To be safe if cooking on coals or fire, use the lid lifter accessory, it will keep you from getting burned. I highly recommend this pan, and have decades of experience behind that statement, enjoy your cobbler!

Best Deals for Lodge L6CO3 Camp Dutch Oven

People seem to either love, hate, or have total disinterest in cast iron cookware. I love it. It seems to have a lot more soul than "modern" utensils.

I've been reading "Little House on the Prarie" to my daughter and she enjoyed hearing how the Ingalls used a pot just like daddy has.

This dutch oven is quite versitile. I can use it with campfire coals, with charcoal, over my Coleman campstove, or in the oven at home. The legs are too long to use on my rangetop at home (without risking damage to the range surface).

Dutch oven cooking is an acquired skill (on top of the general cast iron learning curve), but I've had no problems so far. I have mostly used it to make chicken or beef stew when camping.

Once you get hooked on dutch ovens, then you start wanting accessories. I use a charcoal chimney to start the coals, a pair of metal tongs to move the coals around, and a metal oil drain pan to contain the coals. I've just ordered a Lodge lid lifter, lid rack, and leather gloves to make the whole process a bit easier and safer.

I'm also already thinking of my next dutch oven. It will be the "deep" 8 quart. The 4 quart being reviewed here is 10" diameter at the lid and 3-1/2" deep. The "deep" 8 quart is 12" at the lid and 5" deep. (The standard depth 12" oven is 6 quarts, the standard depth 8 quart is 14" diameter). For soup or stew I like to leave some space below the rim so I probably only get 3 quarts in the 4 quart model, while the deeper 8 quart model would allow a greater percentage of the volume to be used. I imagine for bisquits or other baked goods the standard depth is probably fine.

Honest reviews on Lodge L6CO3 Camp Dutch Oven

If you're reading this, you probably already know about camp dutch ovens. I've been a Boy Scout my whole life, and a Scoutmaster and adult leader for several years now... (and an avid camper and outdoor cook to boot.) I have owned 5 or 6 dutch ovens in my life, and I'm now convinced that there is no match for the quality of LODGE dutch ovens. They are worth paying a little extra for. The others aren't really worth buying-the cheaper ones don't keep a finish like the LODGE ovens do.

I've bought the original finish and now this one with the LOGIC factory forged finish. I LOVE the pre-seasoned cookware. It isn't the finish that you'll get after years of seasoning, cooking and taking care of an oven, BUT you'll love that you will be able to cook on this oven RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. So, if you're into instant gratification (with no downside-they season perfectly as you use them) this is the oven choice for you.

Before my wife and I were recently married, we both enjoyed camping with groups. Now we are establishing our own collection of camping equipment, and enjoying camping on our own. In studying camping, I became intrigued by the Dutch oven, and the fact that you can do about anything with it you can with a stove and oven at home bake, broil, boil, fry, roast, etc. Mainly, I dreamed of making a pizza in camp!

Reasearching many publications by Dutch oven fanatics, one thing was consistent: Lodge is the best. They also recommend starting with a 12" oven, as most recipes are for this size. (Probably because a 12" oven has nearly the same bottom area as a standard 9x13 baking dish or cake pan.)

I can't compare against any other makes, as I don't have any, but this oven does not disappoint. It seems well-made, and the lid fits precisely as it should.

I didn't want to pay extra for the seasoning, but with Super Saver shipping, Amazon was selling this for almost half what I could get the non-pre-seasoned model for shipped from anywhere else. (Most mail-order retailers add an additional fee for the heavy Dutch oven on top of their regular shipping charge.) I am amazed at how easy it is to clean, even with my amateur experiments. I haven't had to use any more than very little scrubbing with a Scotch-Brite pad to get a few stubborn spots off, and the pre-seasoning allowed me to bake with it the evening it arrived!

In the first week, I've tried brownies, pizza, sourdough rolls, cinnamon rolls, baked macaroni and cheese, and fried up bacon on the lid. I'm looking forward to getting a lifetime of use out of this, and will shortly add some other sizes. (I suspect the 8" will be better for casserole-type meals for just me and my wife.)

I have been shopping for month, years really, for affordable and high quality stainless cookware. I shopped the department stores and the others around the mall but they all had over priced home stuff. Being a former chef and still a restaurant operator I wanted something that would last, I wanted what our kitchens use. THIS IS IT!! It's maybe a touch lighter weight than that in a commercial kitchen but it's pretty close, and I don't have a commercial stove at home so this is perfect. Exactly what you need if you're looking for commercial quality home cookware. I have 12 pieces and they're all great. Best home purchase EVER!!!

I have a small galley kitchen and didn't think I had enough room for a bread box. But the Brabantia Compact Bread Box came in a great small size that allows for two loaves of bread or several rolls, muffins, wraps, etc. You can also put some items on top. I am very happy with its size, functionality and looks. It's pricey but there's no other one available in a petite size. Believe me. I have checked!

The "stainless" steel it aint...

I saw the bigger, made in Belgium, version of the Brabantia bread box at local store, and it felt like a well-made product.

The stainless-steel material was strong and did not retain any fingerprints.

This Chinese-made, smaller version of the "the real thing", is another story. While it gets the job done in keeping the bread fresher than it would be if left on a kitchen counter, it better not be touched or your fingerprints will be proudly imprinted on its surface. It looks terrible, and I don't feel like cleaning it every day. I am returning this one and getting something else. Hopefully, you won't make the same mistake I made.

I find it puzzling that some other reviewers feel this box is too small... Based on those reviews, I worried until it was delivered only to learn that it is the perfect size for our household which includes a kindergartner who eats 3-4 slices of bread per day so I keep 2 loaves in this box at all times. Admittedly, I do need to place one of the loaves on its side to fit both. However, it is worth including that the loaf I place on its side is from the local bakery, and quite wide. I imagine that two commercially prepared loaves would fit in the box with ample room (considering I'm storing one of these along with the aforementioned wide bakery loaf and experience no trouble closing the box.) It is a beautiful bread box that provided an instant upgrade to the look of our counter. I am now able to place my Mac Book on top of the box while cooking (so that I may glance at a recipe online. Prior, I was placing it somewhere on the counter where it took up additional space.) Of course, a computer need not sit atop the box as in our house; my point is: this box has a little shelf that could be quite useful for many purposes... Little fingerprints (and large ones) wipe off easily with a damp cloth sprayed with a small amount of vinegar. Most probably, glass cleaner would work just as well... Overall, I can't state enough positive things about this 'compact' box that is seemingly compact, yet stores 2 loaves easily.

Honest reviews on Brabantia Roll Top Matte Steel Bread Bin

My objective in looking for a breadbox was primarily to keep our counter top tidy, without having to resort to keeping bread in the cupboards, which are already filled with other pantry items. This bread box meets my needs perfectly. Most bread boxes are a lot larger than this one, and I thought that they would be somewhat of an eyesore. This one is shallow enough to run fairly flush with our cookbooks, which we keep next to it -and it fits within the overhang of the cabinets. Also, the design (matte stainless steel, with just a small row of black for a handle) is low-key and blends in so you don't really see it. Definitely reduces clutter rather than adding to it!

You can't keep a full size baguette in it (unless you cut it in half), but it is roomy enough to fit at least one loaf of fresh bread from the farmers market, plus a few additional items. In addition, although it is a roll-top, there is a small flat surface at the top where I have put a few pastries that might get crushed if I put them in the breadbox with everything else. Although they are 'visible', I think that having them on top of the breadbox still makes for a more tidy appearance.

When the space for your large bread box suddenly becomes unavailable and you must adapt, then this small bread box is the answer. It is small but it will hold a box of Club Crackers and a small loaf of bread or two small loaves of different kinds of bread.

It seems well constructed, the roll back cover works smoothly and, other than its diminutive size, is a great product.

Reviews of Emile Henry 14.5" x 11" Lasagna Dish

Emile Henry 14-by-11-Inch Lasagna Baker, Azur

This lasagna baker is pricey, but so worth every penny. This is my second one as my husband dropped the first one and, well, yes, it cracked. We contemplated whether we should just buy a cheap version of this size or pay the extra bucks and get the same one. With my really good experiences with the first one, I decided I did not want to chance it. The following are the positives of this baker:

1) Great size for family sized lasagna, potato gratin and generously sized dishes;

2) Bakes evenly with no "hot spots";

3) Glaze is so smooth and without defects so often found on cheaper bakers that clean up is super easy;

4) You can stick this in fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher without worrying wheather it will crack (the only place you cannot use this is the stove);

5) It looks so good that it can go directly from oven to table; and

6) The handles are perfect for getting a secure grip when handling in mitts, but not too protrusive that storage in fridge would be a hassle.

The cons are:

1) Price;

2) No cover.

But, over the years, I have purchased and cherished many Emile Henry baking dishes and there is simply no comparison they look as beautiful now as 20 years ago when I started collecting different ones.

Wow! I just had to make two back-to-back dishes of my Crepes Ensenada and needed to hurry doing it. So I made one full dish, cooled it, took it out, and without cleaning it first (I never would do that with any other dish!), baked another full dish. Yes, I had to use a scraper on it after it soaked, but it came out clean, without too much time spent doing it too. No scratches and lovely crepes to boot. The only thing about this dish is that, because of its size, one has to be very careful washing/rinsing it, so it is not banged in the sink. If banged, like glass, it may crack at a future date.

The color is a bit darker than the picture of the red Cherise and the yellow Citron dishes. Of course, when one is viewing colors on a computer, the type of graphics card and its settings can cause variations on the color we see vs. the color that the host site is actually displaying.

I have two in this size. Absolutely, hands down -- love this baker. It cleans beautifully, I made lasagna for Christmas dinner, of course some cheese burned onto this baker............ cleaned like a champ. Looks brand new. The price can't be beat.

And as I always state with Emile Henry, Le Crueset, Fiestaware....... they are safe to cook in. No toxins being released into your food. For "me" this trumps all of the other wonderful qualities!

Great purchase.

Well I love Emile Henry, so I knew this would be a great purchase. I made Baked Ziti and did it in a plain Pyrex 9"x13" dish. And it was jam packed. Almost mounded on top. Had to bake it on a cookie sheet so it could bubble over. So I wanted to get a slightly bigger dish to have some more room. At first I was worried it would be too big because it says its 5 quarts. (The 9x13 is a 3 quart). But the size is PERFECT. It doesn't look like it is almost twice the size of the 9x13. But I filled it up with water and sure enough it holds 5 quarts. I love this dish. I know it will get tons of use. I decided on yellow and it is soooo pretty. Great investment!

I bought this as a gift for a good friend as I was given one about ten years ago. If you invest in this type of baking dish, you will be rewarded by the longevity and quality of the product. However, Amazon had to send me two, as the first one broke on the way to me, not wrapped well enough, so the gift was late...One really nice thing about the Emile Henry pottery is that the food does not stick. After years on my lasagne pan, I have no blackened leftovers or stains. I highly recommend these dishes and wish I could afford more of them!

The product enables me to bake an oval loaf using the NYTimes technique called "No-Knead Bread." The loaf emerges as a beautifully browned artisan loaf with a lovely crisp crust and a very lacy crumb.

I too bought this cast iron pot for baking no knead bread in. I have round cast iron in 5.5 qts and clay bakers but after baking the no knead bread for over 3 yrs, decided to get an oval, 4 qt baker. This pot seemed the right depth I was looking for and preseasoned. As I'm writing this review, I have bread baking in it now.

The pot came last night and took forever to get here via Fedex, but it did come from LA to NJ. I did wash it with water and rubbed it down with oil before putting the cold pot on the stove to gradually heat up. I have many cast iron pieces and love cast iron. I'm giving it 3.5 to 4 stars as the cast iron is very rough and the lid has an overhang in one area which means the lid was not made uniform. This is minor as the lid still fits, but to me is a flaw in production. There also could have been a deeper ridge so the lid fits more secure. Most of my cast iron is from Lodge but Cajun has some different pieces, not saying I won't buy from them again. I didn't want to return this because of a slight flaw in the lid.

We've been using this kettle at work just fine. It's very light weight but has a tall receptacle that holds the kettle well so we're not concerned about tip over.

It boils incredibly fast & has a nice comfortable handle & easy to use lid release.

Make sure you follow the initial instructions to boil 3x letting cool each time, before the first use to remove any foul taste.

The element is not "protected" so we'd expect scale to build up, but that's easily cleaned.

Only gripe is that the filter seems to fall out when tipped upside down. Even so, can recommend this kettle as a low cost but perfectly functional kettle.

Let's start with context: I'm British so having a kettle is not optional and I have a lifetime's experience of kettles!

When we arrived in the US 14 months ago our accommodation didn't have a kettle and we didn't know any local shops so we immediately ordered this kettle. Less than 14 months later I have had to buy a new kettle as this one became temperamental about switching on a couple of months ago and finally refused altogether. It had always felt pretty shoddy and light-weight on a par with the kind of cheap kettle I took to college some 25 years ago, (very few like this are sold any more t'other side of the pond bottom end of the market only, costing less than $15 final price.) For between $16 and $20 final price you can easily get much better and more stylish ones over there.

Anyway, back to this kettle. On/off switch is very flimsy and easily comes out of its holding clips. It has an exposed element so it gets "furred up" easily. It's base is so flimsy that the plastic covering of the connecting point was already bent and distorted when we received it. Boil time is pretty average, (actually pretty slow if you're used to British kettles.) Scale screen broke within a couple of months when my husband's finger went through it when he was taking it out to clean it.

I have replaced it with a Hamilton Beach one from a famous discount store for $20. It's a far better kettle: sturdier, faster boiling, concealed element, metal gauze scale screen which should prevent accidental breakage, it's the central mount type rather than the jug type which is far more convenient and it's a lot more stylish (shape and it's stainless steal and black.) Spend your $20 on the HB one!

It does what it is supposed to do at a good price. Bought two; one for my parents and one for me.

I use it at least 2-3 times per day. Much faster than either the electric stove or gas range although I do miss the whistling kettle sound.

The cordless feature and level window were two of the deciding factors besides price.

Initial downsides, it took several boiling cycles to get rid of the plastic smell. It is fine now. Once the boil is done it doesn't keep the water piping hot for long.

Honest reviews on Kalorik Cordless Jug Kettle, White, 57-Oz.

I bought this for my latest tour in lovely Afghanistan at home I have a glass and steel beauty, and I was missing it (and the easy availablity of hot beverages).

I followed the advice of other reviewers, and boiled (the same water in my case it is at a premium here!) three + times before drinking from it. That did the job: no taint of leeching plastic.

It is very inexpensive, the base is wide enough to keep it rock solid on my makeshift table (a scrap of 3/8" plywood held up by nylon cord to the rafters of my tent). I hasn't tipped once in any weather, though trying to seat it on the electrical connector from a seated position next to it is not easy need to be standing to use it properly.

It is well designed doesn't direct hot steam on your hand while you pour, and the little mesh screen that snaps into place to cover the spout does well at keeping dust and bugs out of the kettle. The handle is comfortable to the touch.

I am enjoying this cheapie champion very much, and for the price: you will too. I even think it looks pretty sharp much better than the 220V ugly, steam-throwing no-automatic-shutoff deathtrap I bought in Iraq last time (just because something is made by a German company does not guarantee it is well-engineered!)

This is a great kettle for the price. I have no complaints.

For about a year now, I have been using a Melitta kettle I got at a department store for $20. It is wonderful and gets used sometimes several times a day. I bought this kettle for my office; I assumed for the same price I could get a kettle of equal value. Instead, this kettle works well barely well enough to keep.

Probably the most disappointing thing is the large exposed coil, which looks very difficult to clean and requires that there be at least 1L in the pot for me to feel safe boiling water. It does shut off correctly after water boils, but it is difficult to see the light that is supposed to indicate that it is on, and the base design makes it somewhat awkward to use.
