The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.

When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.

The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and they do offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."

Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.

The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."

They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making a reappearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!

Meanwhile, don't buy this stuff. Get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

You can't go wrong with CorningWare. Dishwasher safe, oven safe, freezer safe and microwave safe. I have several other pieces of CorningWare, but I wanted the roaster it is perfect for whole hams, smaller turkerys, chicken etc. Cooks beautifully, doesn't stain and you don't need additional serving pieces, just bake and serve in the same dish. Plus, the French White line is a crisp white and is heavier than some of their other styles.

This is a good-sized dish that cooks food very well. However, it is REALLY REALLY hard to clean! Especially the lid. You have to scrub the heck out of the thing!

We had received one of these as part of a set about four years ago. My wife dropped and broke that one a week ago, and within 30 minutes of cleaning up the mess, we had ordered this replacement--that's how much we like it. We regularly double recipes, and this is the perfect size to double casseroles. My only gripe is that there's not a plastic cover for it like the other (smaller) CorningWare dishes in this series.

I have real corning ware from 40years ago. It still is in perfect shape. I bought this item because it was a useful size. It cracked within four months. I thought perhaps it was a fluke and made the mistake of ordering another. That one cracked in three months. Never again. These made in China pots are total junk.

Based on the photo of the product I thought I was buying a roaster oven with a lid. When the lid arrived I thought they had shipped the lip separately, WRONG.

What I bought was an extremely overpriced "Lid".

I requested a refund and was directed to seller, who issued a refund.

The cost of the UPS for the return was not provided and I spent a lot of time and money on what I feel was a misrepresented item.

In all the years I have been an Amazon customer, I have never experience and problems buying and returning items and certainly not something which I feel is really close to "bait and switch".

I will make sure I carefully read any future purchase.

I am surprised that Amazon let this product be sold with existing photo.

This brand name was recommended by a friend and I love it. Can be used on the stove top and then popped into the oven. Large enough for a small turkey or a casserole to serve 6-8 people. Incredibly easy clean up. Will plan to purchase more pieces of the set.

These silicone spatulas are the highly recommended ones from a leading cooking magazine. So I purchased all these Rubbermaid professional heat resistant spatulas and spoonulas (9 ½", 13 ½" and 16 ½" in length). I use the spatulas primarily for folding ingredients in a mixing bowl. I prefer to use the spoonulas for scraping a bowl when I want to scrape out every last bit of cooking goodness (the edges of the spoonulas are thinner and the cupping of the spoonulas both help to scrape bowls, pans, and pots clean). The Rubbermaid professional plastic handles are more comfortable to use than the wood handles on my heat resistant spatulas and spoonulas. Also, the silicone heads of my wood handle ones are stiffer than the Rubbermaid professional ones. I think that little bit of flex in the Rubbermaid Professional silicone heads helps me scrape cleaner.

I have yet to use the little notch on these spatulas for scraping under the opening of jars (I think they were intended for use on the commercial kitchen size jars) since the spatulas are 2 ¼" wide for the 9 ½" to 2 ¾" wide for the 13 ½" and 16 ½" long tools. The handle ends have small prongs that look like they are to help keep the entire spatula or spoonulas from sliding into a work bowl.

I have some older Rubbermaid ones and they are definitely not stain resistant: the paprika has permanently stained one of the mixing spatulas. I was able to remove the paprika stain from the Rubbermaid professional spatula using dishwashing liquid and a nylon Scotchbright like pad. Also, my older Rubbermaid heat resistant spoonula developed a split at the tip and has warped a bit.

I just realized that one of the reasons why I don't like my similar sized 13 ½" sized silicone spatulas and spoonulas with wood handles: the working end is heavy so the tool is not as balanced as these Rubbermaid Professionals.

For most home kitchens, I'd recommend buying the 9 ½' and 13 ½" size spatulas and spoonulas. There is a 16 ½" size that is very long and the silicone head is the exact same size as the 13 ½: (14" actual) size (4" X 2 ¾").

PROS: The silicone heads have just the right amount of flex to scrape cleaner than similar sized scrapers and spoonulas. The handles are more comfortable and sized well.

CONS: A bit expensive but you a get a tool likely to last.

I usually follow and agree with almost everything America's Test Kitchen rates highly or #1. I am not a professional cook, but this spatula is a little stiff for my liking. I do like the large surface area of the blade, it makes turning and folding larger quantities easier which allows you to disturb delicate batters as little as possible.....such as when the recipe calls for mixing until just combined. I am finding myself using my existing slightly more flexible tipped spatulas more on other recipes. Additionally, as I believe ATK says in their reviews, Rubbermaid could have made the handle a lot more comfortable. The handle is too thin, too hard and not very ergonomic by today's stanards. Overall I gave it a 4 star rating, but as a backup and for a specific designated purpose only.

With its long handle I can reach to the bottom of the bowl and the large flexible head does a great job of cleaning off the sides of the bowl. So far it has not stained and has withstood the heat of a hot skillet---plus kept my hand away from the heat.

I got one of these for Christmas and have used it over and over since then. Popovers in 20 minutes. How wonderful. Releases great and cleans up great! I have not had a single failure. I am so impressed with this pan that I just ordered 3 more for gifts. This is by no means my first popover pan. I have been making them for about 20+ years so I am not new to them or easily impressed. Prior to this my favorite pan was the Chicago Metallic pan, which is a good pan, but this one is even better IMO. Please be sure and try the recipe that comes with this pan as it is much better than my old standard one I have used for years. I think the addition of more eggs and butter replacing the oil makes them just fabulous. I have tryed numerous recipes over the years and this one is better than any I have ever had. I purchased the petite popover pan.The pan is well made and I made excellent popovers in it. I used a recipe that used bread flour because it rises higher. Also, I did not preheat the pan before pouring in the batter, because it causes the bottom of the popovers to overcook and distort. It is important to follow directions for oven temp.

They are small but just as tasty as the big ones; more outside and less inside. The mini-popovers are a fun change from bread with any meal. The included recipe says it makes two batches, but I just use half the ingredients to make a single batch. The pan is sturdy, as I expected from Nordic Ware, and washes up easily.

I had used the 6 large popover, "teflon" coated version and it was useless. Batter stuck unrelentingly and it only made 6. This one releases the popovers easily and there are enough to serve up to 12. I don't know why the recipe makes a double batch dinner would be over by the time the 2nd batch was done but making 1/2 the batch is easy....and mighty tasty.

There is no way to describe just how wonderfully light and yummy fresh straight out of the oven popovers are. I make them all the time and they are not restricted to just breakfast. I love serving them with salads at lunch or with a big family meal featuring roast prime rib or a flavorful pork rib roast or even something as simple as an infused beef roast. There are no rules for what you can serve popovers with.

Because one pan just doesn't do it when I entertain a crowd, I just bought two additional pans. No problem with space because they nest beautifully.

Here's the scoop on this pan. They are well made and they have a narrower well than what I had used previously which results in a lot of individual baby Mt. Vesuvius like popovers which reach yummy brown peaks that are airy, steamy, doughy, and delish. I guarantee that no one can eat just one. They are addictive.

My old popover recipe was pretty wonderful, but I used the recipe which comes with the pan. Double wonderful! That recipe is way better because it is eggy and buttery. Face it, if you are going to indulge in popovers isn't the more decadent recipe going to be the right one for a splurge. My advice is follow the recipe that comes with this pan and follow it to the letter. This is the kind of goody that doesn't need to be messed with. When it is done, the popovers release with no sticking and clean up is a snap which is no doubt due to the butter in the batter, the evenly heated pan, or all that love that goes into popovers.

By far, these are the best popover pans i've used. They can also be used for individual lava cakes and even as baby tiramisu molds.

These are just right not too big and not too small. And they're funky and retro and fun. They are intended for kitchen or stovetop use not table use as one reviewer seemed to think. Having the handles is great when you're cooking and your hands are gloppy. Having to fill them from the bottom, is, of course, less convenient than the stainless steel type that unscrew from the top. But they seem to have improved the rubber stoppers since some of the other reviews written here unless they're not all the same. Mine are substantial and fit very snugly. They are also a soft rubber and would not be breakable. We'll see ... .

Magma 10 Piece Gourmet Nesting Stainless Steel Cookware Set Review

I bought this set for our *home* kitchen almost two years ago, and I have to say, they've wildly exceeded my expectations.

My husband and I rarely eat out and I cook everything from scratch, so these pots get a lot of mileage. I'm not exactly gentle on them and probably do all kinds of things that aren't officially recommended: I use them on the stovetop, in our regular oven, under the broiler, in our countertop convection oven, and as food storage in the refrigerator. They go through the dishwasher and sometimes get left in the sink for longer than is exactly responsible. I've roasted turkey, baked cakes, made soups and stir-frys and pot roasts, and just about everything else imaginable in these.

After two years of this treatment, no dents, no corrosion, nothing. In fact, other than cosmetic scratching on the mirror polish and slight discoloration on the bottoms from heat -both of which I consider very reasonable wear and tear -the pots look just like they did the day I got them.

There was even an Incident where I accidently left the house with a pot of beets simmering on the stove. When I got home, I found that all the liquid had boiled off and the pot had been cooking dry for who knows how long. There was a thick layer of char on the bottom. I was sure that it would be ruined. Well, I can hardly express my astonishment when, after a bit of soaking and scouring, it came out unscathed. A year later, that same pot is still active in my kitchen. I was most impressed!

A few other thoughts:

When I ordered these, I was concerned that the handles weren't stainless steel. I needn't have worried: I don't know what they're made of, but whatever it is, it's very very sturdy. They're also well designed and slide on and off easily. (Just make sure they click into place before turning your pot upside down!) I've never needed more than the two handles.

I *have* occasionally wished for more lids; I certainly wouldn't enjoy getting by on less than two. Most of the other sets I looked at doesn't have the stockpot / frying pan lid that comes with this one. I really like that piece; I'm sure I'd eventually adjust to not having it, but it wouldn't be convenient.

And finally, the reason I bought these: They take up less than a cubic foot of space in my cabinets. I keep the handles in a separate drawer for convenience, but they do nest neatly under the frying pan.

Oh, one last note: I noticed that all of the parts are available for individual purchase on Magma's website. I haven't had to take advantage of that yet, but it's there if necessary.

Thanks, Magma, for an excellent product! I hope these are around for a long time -I would hate to see them go!

I was so impressed with this cookware when I opened the box! I cannot believe how heavy-duty it is. I am using it on our sailboat as our primary cookware. The only bummer is it only comes with two handles, but more handles can be ordered from Magma on their website. Note that some websites list this as a 9-piece set while others list it as a 10-piece set; the 10th "piece" is the bungee cord that holds the lid down when the set is fully nested. Also note that the handles do not fit inside the set when it is nested; they must be stored separately.

UPDATE 1/2013

Still love this cookware. It is absolutely indestructible. I have noted, however, that the interior bottom of the frying pan has discolored somewhat, turning a yellowish color. I think this is from frying with oil. Although the bottom of the pan is spotlessly clean, it still remains a little bit discolored. This is not a deal breaker for me.

I love the idea of the space saving of the nesting pans in the motorhome. However, a pot with boiling water, the handle caught fire and melted. I was shocked and thankfully, I was within a few feet of the stove. Turned off gas burner and cleaned up the mess. Ruined the handle. I had been using these pans since fall/winter and pretty darn happy with the pans until this fire event. I will still cook with the pans, but I'll have to cook on a lower gas flame and be watchful when using the pans.

After trying & returning several microwave rice cookers I decided to give this one a try because of the great price and Nordic Ware's reputation. You MUST follow Nordic Wares instructions for cooking rice. Using any other recipes/directions, will result in your rice being soggy & the water not absorbing. The one noticible difference between the other cookers I tried and this one is that I didn't have to clean my microwave after using this rice cooker. NO SPILLS & OVERFLOWS! I just ordered a second cooker to place in storage just in case this model is discontinued. GREAT PRODUCT AT A GREAT PRICE!

Left home, missed the convenience of a REAL electric rice cooker, but this is the SAME THING!

Pros: Cooks rice without me having to worry about burning it on a stove. It's just the same as a rice cooker...you measure rice, water, put it in the microwave and forget about it. I guess the only extra steps you do have to worry about is that when it's done, you do have to go close the steamer lid and wait a few more minutes.

Cons: Virtually non-existent...but I must list them anyway. It is slightly a pain to clean the entire thing when I'm done compared to an electronic cooker. The lid comes apart in two pieces and I have to clean that too. (I don't have a dishwasher so that's why I mentioned this). For some reason, my little veggie bowl does not look like the one in the picture. I haven't used it for veggies or pasta yet but mine is shaped more like a bowl. When you first take it out of the microwave, there will be some water settling on the top and might get it on yourself. It may scald you but...not badly since it's just a little.

My advice: can get a little soggy but you just gotta adjust and use less water the next time. All microwaves are different. The instructions calls for 1 cup of rice per 1 1/2 cup of water for 10-12 minutes. I use 2 cups of rice per 2 1/2 cups of water for 12 minutes and I'm still finding it a lil soggy but it gets better every time.

Update 12/30/11: It's been a few years now. Have a house and all....and a REALLY awesome normal rice cooker that plugs into an outlet. I really love it. HOWEVER, when I want FAST rice done in less than 15 minutes, I still whip this microwave version out. 5/5 still.

Update 5/11/12: Wanted to add another pro: With leftover rice, just put the lid back on and stick it in the fridge. Then, when you want to reheat the rice again, reheat the entire thing in the microwave. You CAN'T do that with a standard metal bowl from a traditional rice cooker. No need to transfer back and forth from a tupperware either. I think my traditional rice cooker is just a pretty gadget that sits on my counter now. The traditional is only useful when I'm in my occasional "organic" mode and try to avoid the microwave for random fear of radiation.

I got spoiled to good rice while I was living in Japan. This cooker makes good rice if you follow the directions and then adjust the timing on your microwave to match your style of rice. It's also very easy to clean up--the rice "gunk" doesn't stick to it. The cooker works wonderfully, and when I had a chance to buy a second unit at a very reasonable price, I jumped at it. Very good product; it does exactly what it's supposed to.

This is the 2nd cuisinart set I have owned. This one is better then the last because the are dishwasher safe and they clean up like new. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the fact that less heat is better and now I am totally enjoying my set.

This is one of the few Kitchen aid products I don't care for. I have another turner (I wish I knew the brand but it doesn't say) that is much more sturdy.

This isn't a horrible product, but not worth the price. It is kind of flimsy and is hard to flip pancakes with. The angle is also much more steep than I am used to, and I don't like it.

On the good side, it is easy to clean and dishwasher safe. But I wouldn't buy again.

This turner is very nice. It's a good weight and cleans very nicely. The only problem I find with it is that the handle is plenty wide. I have small hands so smaller handle would be nice.

Sturdy utensil that doesn't scratch non-stick surfaces. This is a utensil that should be displayed also. It looks really good in the rack in the kitchen. I think this was good purchase.

My favorite spatula broke, so I looked for one at Amazon and this Kitchenaid seemed very nice and I felt like the brand itself was worth a try. It is a very nice spatula, sturdy but thin enough to flip eggs or burgers. This was my first Kitchenaid utensil but because of it I have ordered several others. I never really thought about there being a difference in utensils but this Kitchenaid is really very good quality.
