... because it's a pot for god's sake. Anyway, it is as billed. A heavy cast iron enamelled dutch oven that you can stick in the oven. Too obvious? For a non-cook like me, the whole braising concept was only an emerging idea. But it works. Things turn out so good, and it has nothing to do with my skill level. Every meal should basically start with tossing bacon, a bottle of wine, and some meat into a big pot and coming back four hours later. You can't go wrong. And... I'm going there. It's pretty. It's red and shiny and I like it the way I liked matchbox cars when I was a kid. I don't even put it in the cabinet. It sits on top of a shelf in full view. So go ahead, spend too much money on a pot. You'll justify it with occasionally cooking pasta sauce in it, and say, "See! It was worth it! We use it all the time!" It's not just for braising!

Not impressed with the enamel-coated finish; appears to be refurbished or factory-second. Not what I had expected from top of line cookware. Maybe the cocotte I received was a lemon, as most reviewers have high admiration for the fit and finish of Staub.

Final purchase price at Amazon was less than $100 with shipping included. While the pits and surface imperfections in the exterior enamel finish may not affect the cooking process, this could lead to more serious issues later in the form of rust or bacteria. So far, the only issues are superficial or cosmetic, but I have requested a replacement in hopes of getting an unblemish cocotte I can proudly display.

PS The added bonus; a Staub silicon kitchen spoon and magnetic trivet was a welcome addition at no additional charge, however the value of $45.00 placed on the two items were so extreme honestly I would have preferred them lower the price of the pot then give away gimmicks to make you think you are getting a good deal and to top it off the Trivet you would think would be round like the pot to place the pot on instead it is oval and too small to do a lot with, if the items weren't free you can bet I would have never bought them at that price especially for something that isn't the same dimensions as the pot I am buying obviously I would have bought a round one common sense!

My All-Clad pans have long handles that stay cool, but the small lid handles get hot. These rubber gadgets fit tightly over those lid handles (and small side handles on stock pots) and allow you to handle them without potholders. While you can take the covers off for use on other lids, it's better to have several and just leave them on all the time. They happily travel through the dishwasher still attached to the handle and don't have to be removed at all.

I found myself using the same two lids all the time because they had these cool touch handle covers on them, but finally decided what I really needed to do was get more. I had to do some searching, but finally found them. I can't recommend them highly enough.

These probably would cost $2 if you found them in a dollar store, but I don't get out much and added them to an order that qualified for free shipping.

They will fit handles from about 3/8" to 5/8". they aren't any good for 1/4" wire-like pot lids or side handles.

They are just the ticket for all-clad type pot lids and handles. I use them on a tri-ply Tremontina stock pot.

Simple things these rubber covers yet I love them because hot side handles and hot lids are a big thing when I'm cooking and have lost my pot holders in the mess I just created or when I can't seem to find my pot holders even when they are in plain sight. These covers are not flimsy and you just slide them on they stay put and you just leave them on and forget them just wash the pots and lids by hand like normal. The only thing wrong with these covers for meis that they are too big or my pot handles and lid handles are smaller than normal. I am okay with this because they still do the job I'm just glad not to burn my hand or food. I plan on buying more of these as they come 3 to a package.

It is an good idea, and I am glad I found these covers, but unfortunatly they do not fit propper and move around my stanless steel lid handles, even when I have a tight grip on them. I have to be very careful that the lid do not flip on me, and still burn me. I wish they would fit tigher.

This is, of course a perfect fit to the pan. The domed lid makes for a good moist cooking environment, and you can see what is going on inside. The black knob is easy to grab and does not get hot. I vacillated between this and the steel cover, which looks easier to store. I am glad to have this but would consider the steel cover if storage is a problem.

I was afraid that since the description says 14 1/4 inch lid, that it might not fit my HUGE 14 inch All-Clad frying pan. This lid not only fits PERFECTLY, but it is a work of art in itself! ALL-CLAD does not make an accompanying lid for their very largest frying pans, and although I had found a lid years ago, it looked cheap and its aluminum bent ever so easily! THIS one is sturdy and is made from the finest quality materials and the dome allows even more possibilities than a flat lid does. If you have a huge frying pan, take a chance at this price! I've been searching a while for a lid to fit the giant All-Clad 14" fry pan. If you are in the same boat, I think you will be happy with this lid. It is ever-so-slightly too large for it to be a PERFECT fit. I'd love it more if it would sink just a tiny bit more into the fry pan. That being said...it fits quite well and the lid seems well made. I haven't used it yet and don't know how the hardware and metal trim will stand up to many washings, but I want to assume that nothing will rust. (FYI, I have the 14" fry pan not the 14" STIR fry pan which a previous review stated will not fit this lid.)

This doesn't actually take metal off your knife or scratch the metal, so I use it on my pretty and expensive knifes. It will straighten out the edge, much like a leather strop would only more aggressively.

My problem with diamond steels is that while they work well, they will actually remove metal and scratch up the edge of the knife. I would rather maintain the straight edge with this type of steel and actually use a sharpening stone when I want to sharpen the knife, because I can go up to a higher grit stone and polish the knife. Also, it is easier to do a better job on a stone as you are working on a stationary surface and not waving both hands around.

This is my first sharpening steel, and I used it for a couple knives that I was given for Christmas (11 months ago) that had become quite gnarly.

Directions for use are right on the label, and by following them I was able to refine the blade of both knives within a couple minutes.

I did subtract one star from the product for build quality, though. The handle is very cheap feeling, and has jagged edges on it as if it came out of a mold and was never polished/buffed. Nothing major, but I did feel it was worth noting.

Bottom line: I am very happy with the purchase, and I can see myself using it for many years to come.

Love the hanging hook. It also puts the blade back in true with just a few swipes. You can't ask for more than that.

I am sending it back. Coating started coming off in a big way on first use. Possibly the coating on the inside of the pan and the bottom are applied differently. I bought this one because it is BIG and has a lid, wish it had worked.

I will stick with a different brand that I have used 40 times now with no apparent issues. Would love to have a big ceramic coated pan with a lid that did not have the coating fall off as soon as you used it.

I don't want to give even 1 star, but had no option.

I already had a Dhokla stand which the plate has to get into the grove of 4 stainless steel piece that protrudes from the stand. I totally hated the mechanism. Seeing this stand in amazon, I was so excited with the stand given for this Dhokla plate as the plate may just slide into the stand. So I immediately ordered it and I was eagerly waiting for it. But I was so disappointed seeing the same one what I had. The package was totally broken. The Dhokla stand looked completely different from the picture they had posted. Totally a fake product. Now I want to return it & they want me to pay for the return cost, which is totally unfair. I don't know how Amazon is supporting such vendors.

I bought one cake pan by Orka, and then some others by various brands. The difference in quality is huge! The other brands of bakeware were flimsy and had to be placed on a cookie sheet, otherwise it was like trying to carry pudding in a plastic sack. Orka bakeware is thicker and denser which allows you to handle it by the stifffened rim without the sides collapsing or bending. Also, the interiors of the Orka pans are very shiny and slick, making the baked cake 'pop out' as it's supposed to, whereas the other brands have a matte finish that clings to your food and holds odors. I baked Thanksgiving stuffing in a 'K' brand loaf pan and wound up donating it to Goodwill afterwards when scrubbing with baking soda and soaking it for a week couldn't get rid of the onion smell.

I have been using this for many months now and really like it. I regularly use it for everything from casseroles to quiche and Gluten Free bread to enchiladas and I am NEVER disappointed with how things cook in it and how easy they come out of it.

I do have two suggestions ..... Hand wash this especially if you have really hard water and always put it on a baking sheet because it is too floppy and needs the added support to move it in and out of the oven.

I realize that this might seem a bit expensive for a baking sheet and why not just get something cheaper? It's totally worth the money. First of all, it is a solid product and it came in a timely manner and excellent condition. However, judging from the picture, I was expecting a sheet that would be flat up to edge of the long sides. It is not. The sheet is elevated along the long edges. The elevation is slight but still: I am loosing about 1 inch of baking surface for baking cookies that need to be flat. And actually that was the primary reason why I bought this sheet: to have larger baking surface. On the other hand, this sheet is still larger than my ordinary sheets so I decided to keep it.

I purchased this after "making do" with my other brands of stock pots over the years. In this, various foods do not stick that are of a heavy nature. i.e. Chicken and dumpling, legumes of various types, etc. This is perfect! Heavy, things dont stick, easy to clean.

Basically you have 4 options for buying a pan: Nonstick, Cast Iron, Copper and Stainless Steel. This one beats them all.

Why? Because this is "multi-clad" stainless steel, Here's what you can do with it:

1. Take a room temperature steak. Pat dry and season with course salt/pepper. Heat pan on high.

2. Oil pan. Wait until just before smoke point. Sear steak 2 min each side.

3. Add aromatics (garlic, rosemary) and PUT THE ENTIRE PAN IN THE OVEN to finish it. 350 degrees -> rare/medium rare.

4. Remove steak, set aside to rest. Cover meat loosely with foil

5. Return pan to stovetop DEGLAZE pan with red wine, reduce by half

6. SIMMER add 1/2 cup beef stock. Reduce. Add butter (optional). Taste. Strain & pour over steak.

^ ALL WITH ONE PAN

You usually can't do the oven step with a non-stick. Plus their kinda dangerous. I don't trust them with liquids. They're easy to scratch too. A cast iron? Can't handle the simmering. Big no no. Plus those are kind of annoying to take care of. Copper? Waaay to expensive. Regular stainless steel? Usually not broiler safe. Most don't even have oven safe handles. Plus stainless steel by itself is a slow conductor of heat.

But this pan? it heats well, and as you can see it can pretty much do anything (oven and BROILER SAFE up to 500 degrees!). Basically this is going to be your best friend in the kitchen. It'll last forever. The only thing it lacks is a lid. To get around this i use the flat lid from my stock pot. You could also just use aluminum foil. Honestly pan lids are really only worth taking up kitchen space if you use them often. Lids are really more of a sauce pans if you ask me.

Oh and 10 inch is a perfect everyday size for 1-2 people.

Worth the money. Get one of these, a set of tongs, and a wooden spoon. Then find a cheap saucepan for spaghetti and your set.

I purchased two of these pans a couple months ago and used them with great excitement at first. The poacher fits easily in several of my pans and cooks the eggs evenly. As time has gone by, I noticed that the center of both pans began to rust as the center (where the handle connects) is not coated well. Second, the non-stick coating is very sensitive. While I should have followed this rule from the beginning (my fault), you should avoid using metal items to remove the cooked eggs. I used a metal spoon to scoop out an egg, and it chipped away at the coating. I still use the non-scratched pan regularly; I just have to be careful to clean the rusted area.

You have to admire someone who can expand the usability of a S'Mores maker, but Fondue? I just hope you don't have 4 ravenous children around because it's a little too unstable and small to have 4 kids jousting with pointy forks and melted cheese!
