I love this mini chopper! It's my second one, the first one lasted 6 years, being used about 2-3 x per week. It's quick to assemble, easy to clean (dishwasher safe) and makes blending things easy. The blade stayed sharp, it was the plastic safety mechanism that finally broke. The only drawback is that sometimes (only 10% of the time for me) it's too small. There are some recipes that I need a standard-sized food processor for, so I just make do by processing in batches. I kind of wish it came in a silver or stainless color choice, since I couldn't find one, I just keep it in a drawer. Overall, great product!

I've gone through 2 cheapo different food choppers that were LOUD and poor in performance. I decided to spend a little extra, and went ahead with this device. I must say this is one of very few things I was actually glad I paid more money for.

PROS:

1. Quiet

2. Easy to put together

3. Low maintenance

4. POWERFUL!

Love this item!!!

I wouldn't call this a great food processor, but it works well and does what it's advertised to do. Quality seems good -solid, strong motor, quality stainless blade, etc. For these reasons, I would have given it 4 stars.

The reason it gets docked one star is that I think it's over-engineered. The part I'm talking about is the buttons on the lid of the bowl. Instead of having the motor actuated by a simple, direct switch or button right on the base, they came up with some weird, convoluted way by which pushing buttons on the lid, then pushes spring-loaded rods in the bowl, which finally push these tiny buttons on the base. This seems to work okay, but what's the benefit? The convenience of pushing big buttons on the lid, instead of smaller buttons waaaay down there at least 4 whole inches away on the base like on typical food processors?!

So what's the big deal -I mean it works, right? Well, the problem is that both the lid and bowl cannot be submerged in water without water flowing into these fairly large compartments that are part of this button actuating mechanism. Even holding the parts under a running faucet allows water into these compartments. These compartments each hold a couple teaspoons of water, and are slow to drain. Instead of taking probably only an hour to air dry on a dish rack, they take *several hours* to dry due to this trapped water. Also, if you happen to have some small food particles in your dishwater, and these particles get into these compartments, it requires disassembly of the lid or bowl to get them out. Yeah, *disassembly*. That alone should make one wonder, right? I mean since when do a bowl or lid need *disassembly*? Shouldn't each just be a single, simple, injection-molded piece? A simpler design would have lowered the price, too...

I love Calphalon products because the quality is usually top notch. These lived up to that expectation. All the tools are very strong and I think will last for years. The wooden spoons are some of the strongest I've ever seen. My favorite part is that the stainless container can hold another 6-10 items so you could fit the remainder of your tools in it as well.

Just upgraded to the Calphalon cookware and purchased this as well. GREAT starter set! We love it so much, we purchased one for my husband's son who just returned from Iraq and loves to cook. This set is especially durable when using gas cooktops...handles the extra heat-source better than our other utensils. Highly recommend. Just wish it came with more options!

Best Deals for Calphalon 7-Piece Cookware Mixed Utensil Set

The edges of the spatulas melt and deform with little use and medium heat levels. The wooden one cracked. I've tossed out all the spatulas within weeks. Still have the spoons but I've hardly used them. Cheap but expensive as disposables!

Honest reviews on Calphalon 7-Piece Cookware Mixed Utensil Set

The product is okay as long as you don't use the plastic pieces to mix something a bit firmer (like a thick spaghetti bolognaise sauce) in which case the center pieces "pop" out. The fact that the center gray-colored pieces aren't "joined" to the main section is a bit worrisome as well as food pieces could get behind them even if they don't pop out which isn't very sanitary.

We received this utensil set with the purchase of a cookware set. The nylon spatula started peeling and deforming after only two uses--both times it was with medium heat and short usage time (grilled cheese sandwich and patty melt). I've already thrown it out. If you get them free, use them while you can, but I would not recommend paying for them.

I never realized what a difference a quality loaf pan would make! I had been using a cheap metal loaf pan that someone had gifted to me. Each time I would try to bake sweet breads or regular bread, it would stick and be unevenly baked. I decided to try this ceramic dish and what a world of difference. My breads rise beautifully, are evenly baked and never stick! If you've never tried baking in ceramic, I highly recommend it!

Purchased this recently and after two meals I already know it's the best sautee pan I've ever owned. It's weighty but not unwieldy, feels great, and spreads heat perfectly. It's also already responsible for the best omelette I've ever made and is in immediate full use as it's a huge upgrade from "the usual". With a lifetime warranty, I doubt I'll ever own another sautee pan.

I recently started getting serious about cooking and decided it was time to upgrade my cookware. After doing considerable research I was settled on allclad. I am glad i went to a store and picked up the pan first. after picking up the allclad pan i felt it was a quality pan but the handle was quite uncomfortable compared to the cia pan.

this is the best pan I own. It is a beautiful piece of cookware. It sits on the top of my stove begging for me to heat it up until the oil begins to shimmer and toss in fresh sea scallops until they are a beautiful golden brown.

It cleans up easily, heats evenly, can be transferred from the stovetop to under the broiler, and because it isnt nonstick you can produce a nice fond after cooking a protein that can be deglazed and turned into a nice pan sauce.

Buy with no remorse. I recommend this brand to anyone interested in investing in quality cookware. I plan on replacing most of my old nonstick with the rest of the Masters collection line.

Best Deals for Culinary Institute of America Masters Collection 10" Sauté Pan

Solidly constructed weighing in at 3 pounds, 1 ounce. The sides have a mirror finish and the interior as well as the bottom portion that contacts the stove have a brushed finish. The brushed finish is rougher than the brushed finishes on most stainless skillets. I was concerned food might stick to it, but was pleasantly surprised. Food cooked great and cleanup was easy!

I like the long arched handle, although it can make a heavy saute pan seem even heavier.

One of the big selling points was that it had a copper layer. The copper layer is actually quite thin (see my uploaded image). The pan cooks great, but I think I was expecting a little more copper to help justify the high price.

The pan is not marked with the country of manufacture, but the cardboard box says it is made in China.

I would buy it again.

I love how large and solid these feel in my hand.

The case looks nice except the velco straping that holds the tools in were already falling apart. I think I'll just try some fabric glue to fix them. The stitching was weak on almost all of them.

If you are buying these for the case you might reconsider, but the tools are awesome.

First I will say that I love Cuisinart products and that is why I ordered these ones over any other. For the first time I am disappointed in one of their products. The tongs don't lock closed, which is a mild inconvenience, especially when putting back in the cheaply constructed case. The case hinges are not square and the lid closes "off" just a little. I have to push it into place to make it latch properly. The part that really irritates me and dropped the score so far is that the tongs will not pick up any weight. I love to slow cook roasts on my grill and these tongs will not pick up a 3lb. roast. My cheap Wal-Mart tongs did fine with this all the way up to a 5 or 6 lb roast. When I bought my new grill I wanted a good set of tools to go with it. They are cheaply made and bend under any amount of weight. Plus the cleaner brush has a straight handle and the grate has to be pulled off the grill to be cleaned properly. My old one had a handle with about a 30 degree bend in it and could use to clean more effectively even with the grate still on the grill. Just a poorly made kit all together.

Wall Mount Pot Rack-6 hooks

Loved the way that this was packed. Wrapped in brown paper. The color ivory was close enough to white for my purposes. Came with all the hardware and instructions for hanging in studs or wall. I wish manufacturer had included one extra plastic anchor and screw, and that's the reason for the four stars instead of five. Easy to hang--two screws at top and that's it. Very sturdy and strong. The rack is holding up a small (0.7 cubic foot) microwave, a sugar and flour canister. The hooks are useful. A tiny bit of flaking of the powder-coated finish but this does not really detract--factory flaw. Took a long time to get, though but it was worth the wait.

I didn't buy this set on Amazon, but I love it so much that I found it in order to give a good review. Everything is non-stick, which is such a blessing for cleaning (and cooking for that matter). My recipes have turned out better since I got this set. The best improvement to my kitchen are the cookie sheets. I used to have some cheap ones from Walmart, but after I saw the difference between food cooked on them and food cooked on these, I threw the old ones out, instead of donating them to Goodwill like I normally do; they were just that bad. I also love the color, its a very classy-looking kitchen red, just the shade I wanted.

This pan, like all the Cuisinart pans, is my favorite to use when I need a 12" skillet. It's a heavy-duty even-heating pan like it's "sisters and brothers"! If you already have any Chef's Classic pots or pans, the lid that fits on any pan with item number ending in 30 will fit on this pan. (Item number is on the bottom). With all the Chef's Classic pans, you usually don't have to turn the heat up as high as a cheapy pan; instead of high, use medium-high, for example. Since this does not have a non-stick coating, you'll often need oil for cooking. Here's a tip: hot pan, cold oil. Let the pan heat up before adding the oil. Also, these pans heat up FAST so watch your food! If anything gets burned-on badly, the pans just need a little soaking (maybe an hour, not overnight). Or, add water to the pan and "boil" the burned-on food off. I also use Barkeepers Friend cleaner to keep them shiny and looking new! Take note: if you've ever purchased a set of Cuisinart from a discount warehouse (i.e. Sam's Club, Cosco) there are not individual pans available that will match your set exactly. I called Cuisinart and found out that particular pan style is available only in sets from discount warehouses. BUT, the Chef's Classic line matches very closely, it's the closest match available.

Even though this pan has the "disc" of aluminum in the base rather than all the way up the sides, it heats very evenly. You can't beat the price. It's big enough to be very versatile for major frying or lighter sautéing. It's also big enough to use a grill for small to medium items.

I do miss having a lid so on those rare occasions where I needed a lid, I just covered it with some aluminum foil. Hokey, I know, but until I purchased another pan for my dishes that need simmering, that was the trick I used.

As long as you watch the heat, cleanup is not too bad. I have rarely had to scrub this pan.

Since it would be great with a lid, I gave it 4 stars. This pan really should not be sold without one.

Best Deals for Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

Like most of this line, the 12" version of this pan is an excellent pan and value, and seldom leaves my range top. The 14" however is a disappointment because its material/construction is not nearly as heavy-duty. Notably, unlike the 12" pan the 14" is NOT stamped "18/10". Another telltale is that the 14" weighs only 4 oz. more than the 12". Result: relatively lower thermal mass, less even heat distribution and retention, more hot spots and burning. In fairness, the larger diameter will put the much thinner sides farther away from most ranges flame, but I wish they'd made the base at least as heavy dutyas the 12". Caveat emptor!

Honest reviews on Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

This is a great skillet for lots of dishes from ommelet, to stir fry, to steak. I do own a couple non-stick skillets for making crepes and scrambled eggs, but this is the one I use the most. This skillet WILL NOT stick if pre-heated with low or med heat for most dishes. If I'm sauteing chicken or cooking steaks, I'd pre heat it with high heat before adding butter, then add the room temperatured meat (not frozen), then lower the heat to med-high and I'm all set for a good piece of steak. Deglazing the pan create thick, delicious sauces, something that can't be achieved with a non-stick pan. My fried eggs come out fried, and not steamed like it would with a non-stick pan. The discoloration (called heat marks) on some S/S cookware can be easily cleaned with S/S cleanser.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Open Skillet

I bought this pan on a special sale and it gets used almost every day. Without a non-stick surface, spray a little Pam and it cleans up very easily. Let it soak for 5 minutes and use a non-steel scrubbing pad (one side sponge, one side a mild abrasive). Steel wool will scratch the surface.

Cooks evenly on medium or low heat. Can also go into the oven.

Without the non-stick surface, stainless steel pans and pots last virtually forever and always look and feel great.

Enamel on cast iron cookware like this, was, until recently, only available from makers like Le Creuset. Lately, several lower cost makers have come on the scene, like Target and Innova. The new budget priced Lodge cookware is in the same price range as the low cost alternatives but completely out performs them.

I have all of the brands I have mentioned. The Lodge is the same weight as the Le Creuset which is much heavier than the other budget models. The ridge where the lid and sides meet is a matt black porcelain on the Lodge and Le Creuset but is just exposed cast iron for the other budget models (which leads to rusting if you are not careful). The porcelain resists staining (even tomato sauces) in the Lodge and Le Creuset but the other budget models stain very easily. And finally, the Lodge and Le Creuset maintain a very polished interior finish that resists sticking which others do not. So, I see no performance differences at all between the Le Creuset and the Lodge whereas the comparably priced budget models are certainly inferior.

If you plan of using these pots very heavily (every day for example) you might want to upgrade to the higher priced Lodge product. It has 4 coatings of enamel as opposed to 2 in this model. But if you use them once or twice a week I dont think you will need the added wear resistance.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

This is a terrific value. The quality and performance match my Le Creuset pieces at a fraction of the price. The only slight design flaw I have found is that the rounded bottom makes browning large pieces of meat awkward. Other than that I have no complaints. Even heating. Easy clean up. I use it several times a week.

UPDATE: I found a second minor problem. The inside rim of the lid has a couple of raised spots which prevent the lid from seating tightly. This causes steam to escape much faster than I would like during a long braise or stew.

Update 2: Three years in I am dropping my rating to three stars. It's still a decent pot at a bargain price, but it will not be an heirloom piece like my Le Creuset. The loose fitting lid turns out to be a manufacturing shortcut. The lids and pot rims on the Le Creuset are machined flat so the lid fits tightly. The lid on this (and other inexpensive enameled cast iron pieces I have looked at) is cast with three raised spots which allow the lid to sit "flat" (like a tripod) on the pot without the extra machining step. This shortcut, unfortunately, makes it impossible for the lid to seal tightly. This makes the pot unsuitable for some tasks unless I make a foil gasket for a tight seal. Secondly, I now have several small chips in the enamel (on the lid and outside) on this pot. My Le Creuset pieces, which I have had much longer and use just as often, have no chipping.

Bottom line: the quality you get is the quality you pay for.

Update 3: I am informed in some of the comments that the products shipping in 2011 have a smooth rimmed lid rather than the "tripod" design. I cannot confirm this, but it would remove one problem I have described above. Meanwhile I am sending this pot to Goodwill and have replaced it with a French made oven from Costco.

Best Deals for Lodge Color Dutch Oven

I purchased this from Amazon around mid-December and have been using it probably 3-4 times/week since then. It is as well constructed as my mother's Le Creuset french ovens, but at a much more reasonable price. I find Lodge products to be a good value, although this piece represents a departure for them as it is not made in the USA, but rather China. Nonetheless, it is very well constructed, with details like the black porcelain enameled rim of the pot and the lid setting it apart from some of the other inexpensive alternatives. I have used mine for mussels in white wine, no-knead bread (more on this below), stew, and various other dishes, and it has held up very well thus far. In another 20 or 30 years I should have a better idea of whether it will hold up as well as my mother's LC pots, but the materials appear to be suitable for the long haul. At one-sixth the price of Le Creuset, I'm willing to take that bet.

One aspect of the pot which I found wanting was the knob. The black phenolic knob completes the Le Creuset lookalike styling, but as with the LC product, it is not heat-safe to 500 degrees. I preheat the vessels for my bread baking at 500-550 degrees for 30-60 minutes, and the knob would not survive. Therefore, I went to the local hardware store and bought a substantial chrome-steel knob of the same base diameter as the included knob, with matching screw, and have used it ever since. For $9 total, the unit is now safe to 550 degrees F and beyond. Net cost: $59.

Great value and I recommend it highly.

Honest reviews on Lodge Color Dutch Oven

I called Lodge Mfg. They e-mailed me a report showing the testing that they have had done on their enamel coated cookware. All of their non enamel cookware is made here in the U.S. The enamel coated cookware is made in China but has been tested for lead content. That set my mind at ease and thought this review would help others too.

This Dutch oven is absolutely gorgeous! An incredible value in the world of enameled cast iron these days, I have a Le Creuset dutch oven that I love, but wanted another piece that was smaller and to be completely honest, wanted to to test one of Lodge's new enameled cast iron pieces that are more price friendly. I have other lodge pieces which I love and thought it was worth a try. I have to admit I was lured by the beautiful red color. Now that I have received it and see it, the picture does not do it justice! It is so pretty, but it cooks superbly like my other lodge pieces, but clean up is so much easier and I don't have to oil each time. I can also cook dishes that are acidic that I can't in the regular cast iron. You also can cook at almost half the normal temps in the oven because it retains the heat so well, which is great with the price of electricity and gas right now! I really think these are going to take off with their affordable prices on these. They have the Lodge name security backing them and hopefully they have not sold their name to produce these like a lot of other companies these days, but I doubt it. But for under $50 for a 6 quart dutch oven, it is worth a try! I am very happy and showing all my friends and family. Do give these a try!

These are just right not too big and not too small. And they're funky and retro and fun. They are intended for kitchen or stovetop use not table use as one reviewer seemed to think. Having the handles is great when you're cooking and your hands are gloppy. Having to fill them from the bottom, is, of course, less convenient than the stainless steel type that unscrew from the top. But they seem to have improved the rubber stoppers since some of the other reviews written here unless they're not all the same. Mine are substantial and fit very snugly. They are also a soft rubber and would not be breakable. We'll see ... .

I have been looking for a stainless wok for sometime. I did not want a non stick finish as when heated too hot they produce fumes that can be toxic to pet birds.

I purchased this Cusinart Stainless 14 inch stir fry. It is a great pan. It is good looking, large so you can cook a lot of food in it. It is extremely easy to clean. It comes with a nice glass lid. It is also light weight. I own the set of Cuisnart Stainless Cookware that I bought last year on Amazon. I am very happy with the set. This wok pan is an excellent value, you simply will not find a good quality wok at this price. Buy It!!

I am aware that there is another review saying the same thing has happened, dated 2009. We bought this pan and really love it, and use it nearly daily for soups and curries, etc. We've had it for some months and have used it with the lid on, quite often. The other day, we had a chana masala dish simmering (medium-low) with the lid on, and the whole lid shattered. It sounded like a shotgun going off, or like a small transformer blowing. There was no glass in the food in fact, it may be a corning-type glass designed to take heat and to break with rounded edges, like windshields.

I have contacted Cuisinart and was told that we would have to pay shipping and handling. I find this outrageous and unnacceptable, and am pursuing the issue further.

What I want to hear is that Cuisinart is aware of the situation and concerned about possible user endangerment. Perhaps this is a rare event; perhaps the fact that there's no vent led to this situation. Maybe there's a flaw in the glass. Whatever the reason, it's been reported twice on Amazon, so leads me to believe that not only could it happen to others, it probably has done so. I do not know whether the previous reviewer told the company, but I would hate to think that two years (at least) have passed with no change to the design of this pot, if Cuisinart did know of the problem.

Cuisinart customer service was prompt and polite, so I have no complaints about that.

Truly disappointing. This wok is out of control. Uneven heating, quick cooling, quick burning, food would stick. For authentic Chinese cooking, it simply can't take the heat. I followed the instruction, heating the wok on medium high on my gas range. It's a guarantee the wok will slow your cooking down to the speed of a crawling freeway. Are you ready to sacrfice your taste buds from enjoying the crisp, fresh stir fry and exchange it to the soggy ones?

Desparately, I cranked up the heat to Chinese spec., it would cause a dark, brunt ring above the oil. It's getting darker everyday. The wok does not retain heat. As soon as the vegetable stir fry hit the surface, the heat is gone. It actually takes longer for me to cook a meal now. Yes, this wok "sticks" like crazy.

I am unsure anyone want to baby sit the wok everyday scrubbing the burnt mark with one's busy schedule. I'm using my old iron wok, not bad at all compare to this one. If you are serious about authentic Chinese/Asian cooking, avoid this wok, invest in something better.

Oh, I can't tell you how happy I am to have this well-made honing steel--it feels so good that I don't even have to force myself to go five strokes on both sides of the blade before I start chopping (as Dinosaur Jr. would have it). This is a very nice and solid piece of equipment, it looks pretty good, and it does what it's supposed to do very well.

Now, for those who say "it's not a sharpening tool!"--you're right. Then again, since I got this thing, and have started using it very regularly, I have not had to sharpen any of my knives, and yes, even blades that seemed all too dull were not beyond salvation. I cannot tell (though I know the definitions) were honing stops and sharpening starts, but I have the feeling that if your knives aren't in too bad a shape they might well benefit from a serious application of the steel. Don't offend the purists and call that 'sharpening'--but as long as your knives cut better as a result, who cares what the purists call it?

One final thing: as with many tools, size counts: 12 inches seems, to me, to be some sort of a minimum length for a honer--this one is long enough, and I certainly wouldn't consider a 10-inch steel.

You'll need one of these bad boys if you want to keep your knives in any sort of sharp condition.

I hone my knives on this steel a couple times before using my knives, and a couple times after using, to maintain a sharp edge. Periodically, every 6 months or so, I break out my Chef's Choice Diamond Sharpener to really sharpen my knives.

I have Wusthof Classic and Henckels Pro-S knives, which work fine with this steel. There may be other knives which have a hardness rating higher than that of this steel. This steel has a hardness rating of 66, so keep that in mind when you purchase your knives. And, Japanese knives must be sharpened at a different angle than German knivesI think it's ~10 degrees vs. 22.5 for ze Germans.

Most of us know the importance of sharp knives for proper food preparation and gracious serving. Of course, I had to learn the hard way by mashing a tomato instead of chopping it, by "sawing" a roast rather than slicing it, and by cutting and pulling off a plump roast turkey leg rather than carving it. Those are just a few of the reasons I'm such a fan of my Henckels Sharpening Steel.

After trying both a stone and steel, the steel is my favorite for ease of use and appearance. This steel is not only utilitarian but handsome with a ribbed handle that's easy to hold and silvertone handle guard and hanging ring. First off, a good way to test whether or not your knives are sharp is to hold a piece of paper by the top corner and then attempt to "slice" it. If knives won't do this head for the steel! You'll be amazed sometimes it takes only a few strokes on the steel to make your knife sharp, sharper, then sharpest.

Remember to place the metal end of the steel on a sturdy surface, such as a butcher block table or cutting board then position the base of the blade on the steel and begin. This Henckels sharpening steel is certainly a cut above any other. Gail Cooke

Honest reviews on Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 12-Inch Honing Steel

This 12" steel performs its job admirably, providing a nice long surface to stroke a blade across and developing a distinctive ring characteristic when the blade is struck across correctly.

I've been maintaining my blades for about six months with it and have had no need to pursue any further sharpening as of yet.

My knives are sharper and this thing is huge. It just does fit in my drawer and the knives do take less time to sharpen. It also makes an excellent pointer. :)
