I only used it for one month. I coat it with oil before and after each use, it still gets sticky after one month. The dark "natural seasoning"comes off as small pieces, then mixed with my food. After their "natural seasoning" comes off, the pan became very sticky like a stainless pan, and it's not stainless, it's rusty. I'd go back to Starfrit's cast iron pan, even though it costs little more.
The only thing i dont like is that it seems to have a coating. After we used it the first time, the coating was burned off. I guess it is the seasoning coating. Hope it is harmless.
In sum, Joyce Chen cast iron wok is a great wok for electric top. I never use it on gas but I bet it performs equally well. I would recommend this wok for those whose stove tops are flat, either gas or electric. If you have the top specially designed to take a wok, then you probably already know what you want anyway.
I was really happy to find a cast iron wok that didn't weight 75 lbs and was the perfect design (wide bottom). I got it yesterday and was blown away by two things; how light it was and how hot you can get this wok. I used a thermal gun on it and got readings above 800 degrees. Even my carbon steel wok didn't get that hot.
This wok comes pre-seasoned, looks to be well constructed, is priced right and definitely does what a wok is supposed to do...."get rocket hot". If you are looking for a good gift set for that vegetarian cook in your life, get this wok and a good induction burner (they aren't expensive). They'll love you forever.

I bought this wok to use it on the inner rings of my flat surface stove so than the range hood can suck all the smoke while i am cooking. The size is perfect. The bottom size is 6", which fits the ring perfectly. The top size is perfect too, though i can use a 12" one too. The wok is solid and heavy and can hold up heat. I have used very cheap cast iron pots and cabon steel pots. They are either too heavy or too light. This one is great. The only thing i dont like is that it seems to have a coating. After we used it the first time, the coating was burned off. I guess it is the seasoning coating. Hope it is harmless.

This wok stays cute on my oven top, suitable for 2-3 person. It is light weight, easy to clean and maintain. It heats up quickly and can get very hot. The vegetable it cooked looks fresh and with good taste. With meat, it did stick a little bit at the beginning, but I think for cast iron it takes time, the more you use it, the less it sticks. For those who have 4-5 people to serve, I would suggest you to try that 14" one. Before buying this one, I was struggling between a carbon steel and light cast iron, finally I decided on cast iron, because a friend shared that she had both of them, both get heat quickly and not stick, but carbon steel more easily gets the vegetable steamed, with more water come out, while cast iron makes food come out dry and still taste juicy.Honest reviews on Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir Fry
Many people would say nothing beats carbon steel woks. I tend to agree if you have a gas stove top that can handle rounded bottom woks. But for electric top, I encounter problem with a flat carbon steel wok: it loses heat as soon as you lift it up to toss food (losing direct contact with a heat source). I did some research and found that iron cast retains heat better than carbon steel, but iron cast takes longer to heat up. However, this wok overcomes those problems. It heats up quickly and retains heat when I toss food in the air. It is surprisingly light for iron cast, yet very well built. However, don't expect carbon steel lightness here. It is still an iron cast. The handle feels nice and sturdy. Its large flat bottom increases contact surface with heat source. It also comes with 25 year warranty, and the quality seems to last even longer. The wok is pre-seasoned, which save me from doing the work. But as with every steel wok, you need to season it regularly. If you never use wok before or use only stainless steel cookware, you should do some research before buying iron cast or carbon steel woks. They need proper care and maintenance.

I recently purchased an induction burner (Max Burton 6200 1800W) which I love, but the problem I ran into was finding a cooking vessel that could take advantage of its heating potential. After some experimentation with various pots and pans, I found that the ones made of carbon steel and cast iron work the best....by far.I was really happy to find a cast iron wok that didn't weight 75 lbs and was the perfect design (wide bottom). I got it yesterday and was blown away by two things; how light it was and how hot you can get this wok. I used a thermal gun on it and got readings above 800 degrees. I purchased this pan because we live on a boat and needed a grill pan that would go from stove top to oven. Castiron is what comes to mind first, but not a good idea for a boat, persistence in searching the market brought me to discover this wonderful pan, I am in awe of it's even heat distribution, non stick surface and it's overall performance. I thought that I was crazy spending this kind of money on a frying pan, and knowing what I know now I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We have this type of fry pan in Scotland only the round one and love it. We decide to go with the square one in the USA. The description in two places talks about the glass lid that can withstand high temps in the oven. Except, there is no lid. What good is a grill for the top of your stove or oven with no lid??? When I called customer service, for one, I am sure I was speaking to someone out of this country, which was hard to understand what they were saying, and second, no explanation as to why it says there is a lid but there isn't. No explanation, just, we will e-mail you a return label!!! I am usually very happy with Amazon, but this whole experience was not. And by the way, this was shipped from Amazon!!!Tuesday, November 11, 2014

This just arrived, so I haven't even used it yet, but I am not at all pleased with this product.
It is advertised as stainless steel, and it certainly is not. It is some light weight material, I would guess aluminum by its weight, except that it has a very badly applied chrome-colored finish, and I see no reason why anyone would bother to add such a cheap exterior coating to aluminum. And when I say badly applied, I mean the surface is irregular, with bumps and bubbles, etc. Nothing about it speaks of any quality whatsoever. Moreover, I would not have purchased it if I had known that it was not stainless steel, which, please note, ir is clearly stated to be in the listing.
Since it would cost more to return it than it's worth, I'm stuck with this bogus product. That being the case, as it will have no direct contact with food, I will try it, though I don't expect it to last long; my guess is once the cheap paint peels it will let water in, and it will quickly rust.
Now that I have it in hand, neither the box, nor the product itself, claims it is stainless steel, so this deception is on the seller for misrepresenting the product in the listing.
I purchase quite a bit from Amazon, for the most part with good results, but I wish Amazon would do more to ensure that sellers post accurate information when listing items for sale.
TIP: Use pots you don't care about for use with these exclusively [at least for the larger pot that will hold the water so the finish doesn't ruin the inside]--or purchase some cheap junk pots to use with this. This is what I should have done from the beginning and will do from now on.
You put the device in the bottom pot, which is full of water. Then you place the smaller pot with the food to be cooked on top of this device.

I ordered two of these and used them for the first time. Unfortunately, I used good stainless steel pots with these. The finish came off and became "stains" on the pots. The "stains" are very hard to remove. Other than that, they are convenient and functional.TIP: Use pots you don't care about for use with these exclusively [at least for the larger pot that will hold the water so the finish doesn't ruin the inside]--or purchase some cheap junk pots to use with this. I just finished using it for the first time. It worked perfectly. For about five bucks, I turned two pots I already owned into the double boiler I needed. And being about the size of a roll of duct tape, it saves me a lot of room in my tiny kitchen. It is very sturdy. I bet you could run over it with a car and it would still retain its shape. You put the device in the bottom pot, which is full of water. Then you place the smaller pot with the food to be cooked on top of this device.

I grind beans fresh before making coffee in either my Chemex or Bodum. Both work well but differ a different in type of richness. The Chemex coffee tends to be lighter in taste, never bitter even when coffee is made strong. The Bodum is much richer and sensitive to how made. It's more senstive to variations in brewing time, grind size, and quantity of water used. However, when you find the right brew time, the right quantity of water, the right grind size for a particular bean, nothing beats it, it's like a perfect glass of wine. I have to admit it has taken me a bit of time to get all this right but on weekends when I have the time, it's the best.
The double wall unit is strong and easy to clean. It does not keep the coffee hot for a long time. So, usually I only make enough for one or two cups for my wife and myself. For me taking the time to get the coffee right is kind of a zen thing, grinding, making, cleaning up and drinking for me is relaxing, a quiet way to start a weekend day on a high note.
I actually prefer my coffee than the coffee shops I was going to in the morning.
After breaking my first Bodum (be careful, the glass is very slippery when wet), I bought this one for two reasons: 1) the double-wall feature (more for the visual effect than the "keep coffee hot" claim) and 2) the locking lid. I didn't put too much stock in the Press "keeping coffee hot for hours" claim because coffee brewed in a French Press should be poured from the Press immediately after brewing, to keep the coffee from becoming bitter, due to prolonged exposure to the coffee grounds. I pour my coffee from the Press into a Bodum Canteen Double-Wall Carafe with Stainless Steel and Silicone Lid, which is perfect for setting onto the table or for making coffee available for everyone to pour, grab and go. One final note of warning: the locking lid works well, but the spout does tend to drip after pouring. Overall, I highly recommend this French Press.

I love my Bodum Thermal French Press Coffee Pot. I wanted a coffee pot that didn't take up a lot of room on my precious counter space, and that made a great cup of coffee. Plus the thermal glass is a must. There's no worrying that the boiling water I pour into it will crack or break the glass. There's nothing to plug in and there's no noise. The coffee steeps for as long as I like, although the 4 minutes recommended works well. The directions say to stir the water and coarsely ground coffee in the pot before letting it steep, but I omit that step. I found that stirring seems to leave a trace of grounds after I pour. I have a great cup of coffee w/o the stirring. I just put my coffee in the pot (I use 1 tablespoon per 3/4 cup of water),add boiling water, and let steep. The directions on the box say 1 T per 1/2 cup but that's really strong.I actually prefer my coffee than the coffee shops I was going to in the morning.

I take my coffee black. No cream. No sugar. I've been drinking it this way for the last five years, since my first cup of coffee brewed in a French Press. My first French Press was a Bodum and I have purchased three more since then. Two as gifts and this one, to replace my original, which I broke while cleaning. Though the French Press is more involved than brewing coffee in a drip machine, the difference in quality is well worth it. If you're going to invest in a French Press, then I'd also encourage you to purchase a grinder. Great coffee is best when the coffee is freshly roasted and freshly ground. I use the Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish. After breaking my first Bodum (be careful, the glass is very slippery when wet), I bought this one for two reasons: 1) the double-wall feature (more for the visual effect than the "keep coffee hot" claim) and 2) the locking lid. Honest reviews on Bodum Chambord 8 Cup Double Wall Thermal Coffee Maker with New
When I received this item, I was impressed with the unit until I made my first pot of coffee. The rubber (polymer) seal/gasket below the spout was torn and allowed coffee to pour on the counter without coming through the spout as designed. An inspection of this seal determined that it was manufactured from a very thin ring of material and, in my opinion, would be prone to this type of failure due to its' insubstantial construction. The other parts of this unit seemed to be well made. I am very surprised that this was not discovered by the engineers at Bodum during preproduction testing of this coffee press prior to placing the unit in full production. I have used other Bodum presses and have not seen problems of this nature with the other units. I am returning this unit and will purchase another Bodum press as a replacement, but I would NOT purchase this model until Bodum has resolved what I would consider a major design flaw. This flaw has the potential to seriously injure a person pouring coffee due to the coffee which pours out without being routed through the spout. I was lucky, in that I used non-boiling water per the directions which were included with the press. Had I been using boiling water, I would have been scalded. That is why I am giving this particular press a one star rating. Note: Amazon made the return as easy as it could be in this situation, and the fault lies with the press design and not with Amazon or the shipper.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Bodum Chambord 8 Cup Double Wall Thermal Coffee Maker with New
I originally gave this coffee press a 5 star review. While it makes excellent coffee, I have just broken my 2nd double wall glass container while washing it. It looks sturdy, but is actually very delicate and I don't want to waste more money. I plan to buy a regular coffee press and pour the coffee in a thermos to keep it warm.Thursday, October 9, 2014

Heavy cast or rolled aluminum is the optimum material for pots and pans. Based on this fact, Magnalite cast aluminum gourmet cookware was the best you could get from about the 1950's through the '70's. However, there are some problems with aluminum as a cooking surface. Some foods react with it and cause discoloration; it's hard to clean, a fact that became glaringly obvious with the advent of non-stick surfaces. And there have been reported health issues related to cooking food in contact with aluminum (experts currently assess the risks as insignificant).
All-Clad is the heir apparent to the position of "creme de la creme" among cookware. The inner layer of metal is aluminum to evenly conduct heat throughout the pan. The cooking surface is stainless steel, the ideal surface because it is non-reactive, easy cleaning, and more durable than nonstick compounds. All Clad offers a variety of exterior finishes to suit your taste. Finally, this line is WELL BUILT. It will outlast anything else in the kitchen.
This may be the most expensive cookware but it's also the best. For a person who doesn't have the physical strength to handle very heavy cookware, this may not be a good choice. For anyone else who is willing to pay for it, this is what you want to cook with.

Typical for All-Clad, quality is excellent. This is the perfect size for soups. I also use it in place of the 5 quart stock pot for stove top rice casseroles. No matter how low I set the temperature, chili and spaghetti sauce always stuck to the bottom of my stockpot, which I always thought of good quality. I would handle it with care to avoid acrid burnt tomato sauce from ruining the meal. No longer a problem! Having cooked a huge pot of chili, I can report a clean bottom on this stockpot with no fear of ruining a family favorite. It cooks so evenly, with no hot spots. I am thrilled with this pot.Sunday, September 28, 2014

They feel robust and well made and it is an excellent selection for a starter set or even as a later addition to your regular kitchen utensils.
For the price you get pretty much most of what you are going to need for every day cooking. Well worth the purchase!
A few of the pieces that have the kitchenaid logo on silver, have that handle area a bit roughed and looks wierd, but it's not a problem for their use, and it's just a small annoyance. None of the all-plastic pieces have this problem.

This is a well made product. The hardware was extremely sturdy. The screw hooks into the ceiling joists were very substantial. The supplied hooks to connect the rack to the ceiling hooks, would have lowered the rack too much for our ceiling. So we went to the hardware store and bought two very nice oval links and then spray painted them to match the graphite rack. Worked beautifully. The rack is very stable, doesn't tip, perhaps becasue the pots hang from the grid work. The pot lids are very conveniently stored on the top of the grid. I heartily recommend this product.Best Deals for Old Dutch 30x20" Rectangular Pot Rack
I am so happy and thrilled with this potrack, Im giddy. This is an "Extremly" heavy potrack, even before it's loaded with pots and pans. I just bought a new home with a center island in the kitchen. It's not a large kitchen and the kitchen, dining room and living room are combined into an open living area. Everyone said I could'nt have a ceiling rack, because of the vaulted ceilings. They also said it would be too "cluttered". When I found a handiman willing to tackle it, he was surprised, that such a heavy rack only had two hooks. You'll have to buy the chains for this, if you're going to suspend it from the ceiling. My handiman went to 6 different stores to match the copper color. He then had to go into the attic, to put up another piece of timber, so that the rack could be centered over the island. I needed about 9 feet of copper chain, about $ when all was said and done, it is absolutely beautiful. This would be a much easier piece to hang, if you have flat ceilings. Everyone that comes in remarks how beautiful it is and I can now show off my Calphalon and polished Farberware pots and pans. I've cleared up alot of cabinet space and I don't have to bang around, looking for my cookware. A word of caution, because this is hung by only two hooks, be careful to try and balance your cookware. This comes with alot of hooks, so I used about 8 of them to hang my long utensils and they look great alongside the cookware. This is also a great price, because you're probably getting 40 pounds of copper in this and other sites have similar racks for more than twice the price. Buy it, hang it up and it'll change the whole look of your kitchen.Honest reviews on Old Dutch 30x20" Rectangular Pot Rack

Cheap Corning Vision Visions Amber 1.5 L Saucepan with Lid
I love Corning Visions cookware because it is very versatile. It can be used in all of the places in your kitchen you don't need to keep using extra dishes. They can be use on the stove top, in the oven, in the microwave, in the refrigerator or in the freezer. You can cook your meals in them and actually see them cooking in without having to open a lid to check. This is great because you can see all the way to the bottom to make sure the food is cooking evenly and not burning or scorching, etc..
And this cookware is so beautiful you can serve it in them, and then put any leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer right in the pot or pan!
This is because they are not just made out of glass, but a unique glass/ceramic mixture that is highly heat resistant. You can't do that with other glassware and you can't use metal pots in the microwave or oven.
Another awesome thing about them is that since they are glassware, you don't have to worry about metallic compounds leeching into your food like from metallic pots. Also, it never stains. And because it's glassware, it transmits the heat more efficiently, so you can cook at about 25 degrees less than you would in metal.
A neat and interesting fact: In the original commercial for Corning Visions, they took an aluminum saucepan and melted it in a Corning Visions Saucepan at over 1560 degrees F to show the incredible temperatures this cookware can withstand! Pretty awesome (though I wouldn't recommend trying this at home!) :)
Even though this glass is highly resistant to thermal shock, there exists a possibility that it can break or shatter if it is handled improperly. There are some simple things you can do to help make sure your Corning Visions last. Some of them are:
1). When you use a Visions pot/pan on the stove, make sure to place it
on the cold burner and turn on the burner don't put a cold
visions pot/pan on a hot burner. This allows the glass to expand
slowly as the burner heats-up instead of [too] rapidly.
2). When you use them in the oven, make sure you allow your oven to
preheat to the desired temperature first and then place it in the
oven. The reason for this is that the if you put the visions on
a rack that too close to the heating element, the potential for
thermal shock and damage to the glass exists.
3). When you take a Hot Visions pot/pan off of the stove or out of the
oven, place it on a dry towel or pot holders avoid placing it
directly on a cold surface like cold burners or the kitchen
counter this could cause the glass to contract too rapidly.
4). If you chip or crack a Visions item, you should not use it anymore.
A chip or crack is a weak spot and could break/expand when heated
and/or cooled.
** These are simple rules that make sense, and are not hard to follow. And once you get into these habits, it's completely second-nature.Why would anyone want to cook in a glass pot?!!!!! Got one as a gift years ago, put it on the gas with too little water in it, and it literally exploded into tiny shards that scattered all over me and the kitchen. I was fortunate not to have been scalded or injured by jagged glass chips. There was evidently not enough water in the pot to absorb the heat, and the glass expanded and shattered with a loud crack that scared the hell out of me! Do not use this line of "cookware" ! No serious cook would consider it. Google "Danger Vision Cookware", or "Exploding Vision Cookware"! You'll be afraid (and rightly so) to use this crap for anything more than to catch a drip from a leaky ceiling!

Kinetic Go Green Premium Nanosilver Food Storage Container Set Reviews

I have owned both the Fresher Longer (at Sharper Image when they are still around) and OsoFresh containers (from Amazon) for several years and they have been wonderful for me. As far as I can tell it is the same products that has changed name/company over time, but this latest iteration maintain the same high quality as the previous versions and the Nano Silver . As the other reviewer has commented the lips are interchangeable with the old containers and I like how the smallest container is now taller, which make it much more useful. The containers are well-built and use high-quality, very thick plastic wall all-around, which means it will not warp or deformed. It is spill-proof, microwaveable, dishwasher safe and freezer-safe, what more can you ask for?
UPDATED 10/26/11
For those of us who worries about BPA. These containers are BPA-free. I have just purchased my 3rd sets, not because the old containers are worn out, but rather they are working so well that my parents want a set of their own too. I am still using the original Fresher Longer set (yellow color) I bought from the Sharper Image store 5 years ago. The silicone seal and the 4 side tabs works just as well as day one in making the containers spill-proof.
June 2011 Had to update my review and remove a couple of stars. After some use, I am no longer as happy with them as I once was. My original review stated I would buy them again and recommend them. I would no longer buy them again and would no longer recommend them. They're just like all the other containers I've gotten over the years: good when they're brand new but their useful qualities deteriorate.
Problem #1: mold forming inside the silicone seal of the lid. Eww! Gross! I had to pick it out with a butter knife. Makes me wonder what microscopic yucky stuff is inside there infiltrating our food. So much for the antimicrobial attributes.
Problem #2: The lids no longer consistently and interchangeably fit. I've put them in the dishwasher on the top rack on occasion but mostly hand washed them. Sometimes the lids fit fine, other times they don't seem to line up. The lids can't be forced to closed. You have to try a different lid.
Stained by leftover pasta with tomato sauce after less than 24 hours holding the food, just like any other container.
I also find them a little hard to open when they are sealed. That isn't necessarily a product flaw, just my observation.
Unfortunately, about 9 months into owning and using them regularly, they all began to develop a disgusting buildup of black mold or mildew under the silicon seal in the lid. It appears that when moisture gets underneath the seal, there's no way for it to escape, and mold develops. I can't find a way to remove the seal, and I hesitate to bleach them since I use them for food and worry about chemicals seeping into the plastic. I'm afraid they'll all have to be thrown away.
Huge disappointment.

They come in sizes I find convenient, stack nicely, and I like how the lids fit (though it does require a little figuring out at first). They can go in the microwave if you unlock the lids. So far there has been no marring of the insides like I've had with other containers. Not only do I give them a 5 star rating, but I would buy them again AND recommend them to a friend.June 2011 Had to update my review and remove a couple of stars. Honest reviews on Kinetic Go Green Premium Nanosilver Food Storage Container Set
I ordered this item because of the nanotechnology and I do think that food stays fresh longer when using it. Red grapes were fresh after 2 weeks in the container. I do have a problem with the locking mechanism on them. Some of the lids are impossible to lock and I end up trying several lids to find one that locks on 3 or 4 sides. They require quite a bit of force to lock. I have a set of Lock and Lock containers and do NOT have this problem with them.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Kinetic Go Green Premium Nanosilver Food Storage Container Set
These containers have helped me lose 25 lbs! I can buy better produce at the warehouse store and it stays fresh long enough to use it (rather than throw away the remainders). I routinely keep celery 3-4 weeks and asparagus stays like just-picked for over a week. Strawberries will last a week if you don't wash them before storing them. Don't wash anyfresh fruit or vegetable before storing. I have had tomatoes last over a week in these just sitting on the counter! You'll be buying them as gifts next!Tuesday, June 17, 2014

I am very happy with the Multiclad Pro cookware in general. This is a heavy pan (to be expected due to its size) but if you need a large saute pan this is a great size nice and deep. The rolled edge makes pouring very neat (it just takes 2 hands for me until most of the extra weight is removed thank God for the helper handle, a wonderful feature). It heats quickly and cleans easily but, as mentioned in other reviews, it does discolor on the bottoms interior turns blueish, exterior turns brownish from the application of heat (this is not an issue for me as I was looking for cooking ability not asthetics.)
One big beef I have is that the bottom is NOT flat and it wobbles on my glass top range. I have no doubt that this effects the even-ness of the cooking. We are planning a move and I am switching to a gas range otherwise I would have returned it and tried another one. (not a different brand)
I am an advid, experienced cook making most foods from scratch and I would recommend this product just be aware of some of it's limitations.
I do highly recommend the Multiclad Pro line it is a great product at a great price especially when compared to other "professional" quality cookware.
The size and depth is perfect for stove top or oven casseroles/stir-fry to feed a large family or for plenty of leftovers. Plenty of pan room to fry up to four hot sandwiches/French bread, 6 to 8 or more burgers, pancakes, fry an entire chicken with room to spare, etc.
The long handle is nice and the helper handle is a big help to maneuver a large fully loaded pan. Measure your oven to make sure this long handled pan will fit in your oven if you need it to.
This needs a 13 inch splatter screen. Many styles of screens, some with four 'feet' formed in the rim, and a style with tri-feet extension of the handle under the screen.
A splatter guard is nice, too.(three sided 'wall') Norpro-2063-Nonstick-Splatter-Guard. I use one like this all the time. My stove top is built in with a sit down bar behind it. Keeps the grease spatters off the bar.

I think this cookware is a really great alternative to All Clad Stainless. I have three pieces of the Cuisinart Multiclad and they are all comparable to the All Clad in terms of performance. Careful you have to take care of these pans. Don't put salt in them unless there is boiling liquid or the pans will pit and I wouldn't recommend putting them in the dishwasher. Another comparable line is the Calphalon Tri-Ply.Best Deals for Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Stainless Saute with Helper and Cover

As an addition to our newly renovated kitchen we purchased a set of Cusinart Multiclad Pro Stainless. The addition of the 5 1/2 quart saute pan has already been put to the test with the sauteing of five pounds of onions. The large surface area and the heavy bottom produced an excellent result with even cooking and no burning. We could have spent much more but I doubt we would have achieved any better result. The rest of the set also performs well.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Stainless Saute with Helper and Cover
I must say that i am thoroughly pleased with this saute pan great heat transfer and it is easily cleaned. Even if you leave it till the next morning, a short soak in water will release all of the remains on the surface. Good fond development, deglazes easily, making sauces is a snap. looking to get the 3qt version someday for samller tasks. After spending thousands of dollars over the years on calphalon products, I am now a cuisinart man. Too bad everyone except all-clad manufactures in china. really a shame. if you dont have the scarole for all-clad, this is a very good buy.
