Easy to use & not much food waste when compared to the 3 pack of Munchkin shape cutters I purchased as well.

It's easy to use but make sure you have large slices of bread or the crust will get sealed at the edge.

Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Automatic Air Vent Pack

The 'orginal' rubber seal on the cooker had cooked its last roast. The rubber seal was shot, and would not maintain a seal when cooking. My first thought was to throw away this rather old cooker, but thought I'd try to find a replacement seal. A few key strokes and checking the model number on the cooker, to what Amazon had on screen, and I was ordering a new seal. The wait time was less than expected and we had the new one "in hand" before the next Sunday's dinner.

Now putting it ON was a challenge. Of course I cleaned the lid of the cooker, making sure it was completely clear of any of the "old" rubber seal.

Next installing the new seal. You ever try to put a 15" tire on a 14" rim. That's what it was like. AS I would work the seal into the groove in the lid, the last inch or so would move away from where I was working. After a lot of effort, maybe a little cussing, and lot of frustration, I was ready to send this darn seal back to from where it came from.

One more effort, first: went to the work shop and brought back a couple clamps. Put the 1st clamp at the last point I'd worked the seal to, and secured it. Placed the second clamp at the other end of the bulging seal and clamped it. Then I tried to squeeze the bulge into the lid. After several more attempts, I realized that I had to allow the seal to "back up" as it was being installed. Sprayed some cooking oil on the lid, reinserted the seal and used only 1 clamp and it (seal) FINALLY went into place.

I immediately put the lid on the "pot" and twisted the lid into "lock position". Then set down and had a cup of coffee. Whew! No, it wasn't easy to install, but dinner that Sunday was worth the effort.

Ordered this for my mother's 50 year old pressure cooker that is in excellent condition and built like a tank. Considered buying a new pressure cooker but they don't compare with the quality of the old one. The seal just needed to be replaced and it's as good as new, actually better.

OXO Good Grips Egg Slicer and Chopper
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

I use this for hardboiled eggs AND mushrooms. It makes perfectly sliced mushrooms for easy sauteeing. It takes a few mushrooms to get the hang of it, but once you figure it out it is so much faster than slicing by hand!

It does a wonderful job on eggs and with the rotation option, you can make perfect egg salad in no time at all. A real bonus is the removable grid, it scrapes out all the bits left behind in the teeth so you can just lift it out and rinse it off.

A real time saver that feels sturdy and well built. I expect to use this fo r years to come. Love OXO products, I haven't had a bad one yet!

My first review of this OXO Egg Chopper/Slicer was terribly harsh and unfair after using it on only a couple eggs.

I've just returned to the computer from having used it to chop a dozen eggs for egg-salad and it made quick work of them. Yes, there was still some gadget clean-up, but overall the clean-up was lots less work than chopping those eggs by hand and the resulting bits were nice and uniform.

I honestly believe that manual egg-slicing gadgets which also "chop," just don't get any better than this, and it's a keeper. 5-Stars.

Best Deals for OXO Good Grips Egg Slicer and Chopper

To be honest, I did not purchase this item from Amazon. It was kind of an impulse buy while I was visiting a kitchen specialty shop. I have numerous other OXO products that I have pleased me, and I was sold on the fact that you could rotate the bottom thus slicing the egg in two directions easily...well, at least I though it would be easy. When I opened the device about half the egg stayed stuck in the top of the slicer. I ended up pretty much mangling every egg I tried. And cleaning is a nightmare! Its construction makes it very difficult to clean. I opened it and washed. I closed it and washed. I used a toothpick to get out the egg bits which are very difficult to see since most of the tool is white. I would think it was clean, open it again and find more egg pieces. I finally decided that it would make a great training tool for dental hygienists! Over-all, even if it worked perfectly, the cleaning difficulties would make me not recommend this tool. If you had to chop A LOT of eggs, then the time spent cleaning it might not matter so much, but I cannot see myself using this tool again. The whole time I was cleaning it, I was thinking about writing a review to warn others!

Honest reviews on OXO Good Grips Egg Slicer and Chopper

My simple guillotine type of slicer finally broke a few steel wires after 25 years of use. I chose this model from a dazzling array. To date I find it more useful than my previous one because the egg cradle rotates eliminating the need to lift a sliced egg to dice it. One can also slice the egg in either direction. This product has a nice weight and feel, is a snap to use and is easy to clean. It takes up a bit more shelf space than the simpler model and I hope it will last as long.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for OXO Good Grips Egg Slicer and Chopper

Purchased as a Christmas present. The clamshell top folds down to grasp the egg when in operation. The device must be completed opened to remove the egg, which means the wires must pass through the egg twice. This can cause the egg slices to get mangled. The clamshell makes it a bit challenging to clean by hand as when open it is always engaged with the wires. After a couple months of occasional use, the wires broke. Back for a refund.

Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection 6-Inch Stoneware Plates with Serving Caddy, Ruby Antiqued Finish, Set of 6
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

These sturdy little plates are the perfect size for desserts and appetizers. Yes, they are small, but in no way coaster sized! As another reviewer pointed out, they are about the size of a saucer. They also fit under a ramekin perfectly, so keep this in mind when you make those wonderful dishes in your ramekins and want to present them in a pretty way! The sturdy caddy included in the set makes it an elegant way to dress up a table for entertaining. I own two sets of these in 2 different colors and use them often.

Perfect for garlic bread at dinner! Also nice that you can put the set on the table right next to the bread basket.

Best Deals for Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection 6-Inch Stoneware Plates

If you set out a snack tray for guests, one or two sets of these small plates is a perfect solution (or even more sets depending on how many you entertain.)

First off, though, is you need to be aware of the size or you may be disappointed. Six inches is about the diameter of a coffee cup saucer. Tiny by some standards, but not for snacks. Depending on your cultural reference, these are near perfect whether you call snacks tapas, mezze, antipasti, hors d'oeuvres ... or snacks.

Second, even for small gatherings one set of six plates may not be enough. Guests always seem to set down the first plate they finish and go back for more using a new one.

What I love is the serving caddy, which adds a touch of class and convenience to the spread. But it's the price and choice of colors that also make this set a bargain. I own the white ones, which suit my decor and makes the presentation more attractive in my opinion. However, let your imagination inspire you to go wild because you have choices.

Another thing I love is these are stoneware instead of some cheap plastic. As such they are easy to care for, and can actually be safely used with hot foods.

If your spread includes items like salsa, bruschetta, hummus, caponata or other dips or spreads, you may want to also check out the companion dipping bowls: Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection 5-Inch Stoneware Dipping Bowls with Serving Caddy, Ivory Antiqued Finish, Set of 6.

Shop around and I think you will discover that for the price these are a bargain. Just take out a tape or ruler and measure a saucer to get an idea of the relative size if you are unfamiliar with standard snack dish sizes before placing your order.

Honest reviews on Signature Housewares Sorrento Collection 6-Inch Stoneware Plates

These six inch dishes appear to be a bit small, so are probably not good for a dinner salad but would be great for bread and butter or dessert. The rod iron holder is very convienient to carry the plates to the table for serving, but required some reorganization of my cupboards to store it all together.

I was going to get the individual place settings of dishes that matched these but it turned out to be less costly to buy this set of six 6' plates, a set of six 11' plates and the utility 20 ounce bowl set of six than it would have been to buy just four sets of the individual place settings.

I was worried there might be some coloration differences between the sets but there was not. Everything matched very nicely. The color is more a dark red than a ruby red, but that was fine with me.

Cheap Paderno World Cuisine .5 Inch Baker's Blade

Paderno World Cuisine .5 Inch Baker's Blade
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars
Buy Now
I have been baking professionally for five years and although these sorts of lames may be useful for someone who wants to experiment with a loaf of bread a night for one week and then never bake again, one blade does not last half a shift in front of my oven before getting dull. A much better solution is to buy a package of double-sided razor-blades. We use Dorco brand which are 12 dollars for a hundred on amazon, although I'm pretty sure all brands are identical. They can be very easily fitted onto just about any rigid stick, such as a popsicle stick cut in half length-wise. Just thread the stick through the two larger holes in the middle of the razor blade so that it forms a convenient curve between them. Voila!

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Several years ago when I began baking artisan breads, I purchased one of these baker's blades. I fell into the novice baker's trap and purchased almost every item the professionals recommended in their books. This is one of the few that I wish I had not.

As a number of other reviewers have said, I would have been better off saving the money and purchasing packs of double-edged razor blades. Not only is this item cheaply made, but the blade I received was not particularly sharp. Even with a light touch, the cutting edge drags and I rarely get a nice, clean cut. Occasionally, I do manage to get a clean cut which is the only reason I gave this product two stars.

I definitely do not recommend purchasing this baker's blade. Even if it goes on sale or is offered as a 4 for 3 item, it isn't worth adding to your Amazon shopping cart.

Best Deals for Paderno World Cuisine .5 Inch Baker's Blade

This is a very cheaply made gizmo the size and quality of a plastic fork you'd find at a fast-food restaurant.

It's got a double-edged razor blade in it with a little cover, just like the photo.

If I wasn't crazy for the idea of having one for my bread-making, I'd send it back.

It looks like it might have cost about 10 cents to make .. good business for the seller .. a ripoff for those of us foolish enough to think we need one.

You'll be better off with a good sharp knife (like a Kuhn-Rikon paring knife) which you can use for other purposes as well as scoring your bread.

We Live and Learn.

Honest reviews on Paderno World Cuisine .5 Inch Baker's Blade

I have tried everything for slashing my artisan loaves...including but not limited to: double edged razor blades (hand held with care!), a double edged razor blade held on a coffee stirrer, a sharp serrated knife, a sharp straight edge knife, an exacto blade (various types), and even scissors (for boules). I read the lack luster reviews, but decided to go ahead and give it try. I have made many unsatisfactory purchases that have cost me much more, so I didn't figure I had too much to lose. I am glad I gave it a shot. Yes, it probably cost the manufacturer ten cents to make. No, the blade is not replaceable. BUT...the blade is curved on the end, which gives you the ability to slash the loaves without having to work around the blunt end of a razor blade. A lot more control than a flimsy coffee stirrer. I usually have to let the loaves dry out a bit before slashing to get any kind of "ear", but this sliced through my wet loaves with ease and precision! The loaves were absolutely beautiful, with no learning curve (pardon my pun!). I agree that if you are looking for a straight cut, this is probably not the tool you will want to use, but for baguettes and other curved slashing, it worked like a charm. I would have saved myself many years of aggravation if I had invested $10 in this product long ago...

The blade is not replaceable. So what? Let's face it, a blade is not going to get a lot of wear and tear slicing through wet dough. I produce about 75 pounds of artisan bread per week in a commercial venue. I figure this will last a good 6 months, and for the average home baker it should last a year or two. If you keep it clean, keep it dry, and keep the cover on it you should be good to go for a long time. Of course it may fall apart in a month, in which case I will be back to revise my review. But for now I am pleased. I couldn't even buy three lattes for the amount this item costs...I give it a thumbs up!

This item is good for baguettes; but for round, rectangular,

Range Kleen 5056 Embossed Burner Kover, Black, Set of 4

These covers are attractive, arrived quickly, and do a fine job of keeping crumbs and scraps out of the burners that I'm not using, which is what I was aiming for. (I'm not sure why a previous reviewer thought they would be useful to cover hot burners -seems to me that covering a hot burner with a metal cover is just going to heat up the cover.) I'd suggest, however, that anyone thinking of buying these or other burner covers be more sensible than I was and measure your burners before ordering. The large covers are 9.75 inches in diameter and the small covers are 8 inches; sadly, the small covers proved to be too small for my stove. I'm still very pleased with the large ones, though.

FIVE MONTHS LATER: The black coating started peeling off a couple months in and it's just getting worse. They look pretty awful. I'm keeping them until I can find better ones because they still keep crumbs and scraps out of the burners I'm not using, but I'd recommend you save your money and buy something else to start with.

They're thinner than others I've seen, but they're pretty. One came scratched up a touch. There's a couple places on it where white is showing. I can't tell if it's the black scratched off or if it's white transferred from something else. It's even with the black, not like a scratch. Either way, I took a black Sharpie and colored those little places in. It isn't noticeable unless you really look for it. If anyone is paying that close attention to my burner covers, they have bigger issues.

As another reviewer states, yup, this is indeed a lid. As to the question of why it didn't come with the bucket, well, sometimes you need a lid for your bucket, sometimes you don't. I like that the manufacturer/distributors gives consumers a choice.

The reason I do not give it five stars is because the first two or three times DH and I tried to put on and remove the lid from the matching bucket, it required a Herculean effort. It still takes a bit of force to get it off and put it back on about a dozen openings and closings later, but I guess it wouldn't be as "leaktite" if it were any looser.

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto Review

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars
Buy Now
I had been looking for a panini grill and press for a long time and was having a very hard time deciding between an expensive model or a cheap one. The reasoning being that the expensive models would probably last forever, as my Le Creuset dutch oven has. I thought that the cheap ones, if they failed, wouldn't be such a loss.

I read a lot of reviews and looked at different models at the store and ultimately decided on this model for a few reasons. First, it seemed solid and heavy. Second, it came in a nice color. Third, it was a good price compromise between the ultra expensive and the cheap.

Having now used it for a month and cooked with it more than 15 times I can say that it turned out not to be precisely what I was looking for. It has several issues that would have been hard for me to know from other reviews. First, and probably most annoying, the pan comes almost completely unseasoned. Seasoning cast Iron is a little bit time consuming and the process took the better part of two evenings before things cooked in the pan would release at all.

Second, the cast iron is very, very rough. I have several other cast iron pans and this is the first one I had that I couldn't effectively clean because of the rough surface. The pan tore several sponges to pieces (even the scrubbing side) and even the plastic scraper that I bought for it (also from Mario Batali and made specifically for this pan) was basically shredded after just 15 cleanings. The rough surface also makes it hard to oil it with a paper towel or a piece of cloth since it just shreds it. Your hand works fine, but I don't really like to cover my hand in oil after I just finished cleaning the pan in the sink.

Third, the pan has discolored quite a bit since I bought it. It started out a nice pale almost mint green but is now a yellow green color similar to a string bean. The top discolored first, followed by the bottom. I am not sure if this is because I have a gas range and not an electric model, but the change is distinctive. Others have spoken about cracks developing in the glaze, but there has been none of that so far. The discoloration is also in the glaze and soap and water make no difference (although you have to use soap very carefully to avoid unseasoning the cast iron).

Finally, the pan is really hard to clean. This is the result of several factors. First, although the cooking surface is a good size, when you add the handles, there is almost no way to get the pan in the sink and level. This makes cleaning it without sloshing greasy water out of the sink a bit difficult. Second, the roughness of the cast iron and the non-seasoned way it shows up make the first few cleanings really bad.

However, to spite all of these things, the pan is just and pan and serves it's purpose well. It may be a bit of a pain to deal with, but my wife and I are enjoying the paninis we've made and grilling stuff inside. I do wonder if I had spent $40 less would another pan have been the same or better and I definitely wonder if I had spent $60 more if the Le Creuset model would have any of these problems. I don't regret buying it, but if i had it to do again I would definitely at least get the darkest color available.

I really love this whole line. I made Cuban Sandwiches with mine and was really pleased with how they turnes out. I am also big on the aesthetic look of my cookware along with functionality, and this line offers both aspects at an incredibly reasonable price.

Best Deals for Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto

I've posted this review on several differently colored panini presses...though mine is red. I'm THAT passionate about the low quality of this product. It angers me every time I see it in my closet (won't fit in my cabinets). This press:

1.) Doesn't heat both sides equally

2.) Adheres to bread and fish like white on rice...even with oil/butter/nonstick spray

3.) has a cool colored finish that will chip and look hideous in no time.

Seriously, take my word, this is an utter disaster of a product. Either reevaluate whether you need a press, or try another line. If I could turn back time, I'd try Lodge (and they have new colors now to), All Clad, or one of the cheaper cheap pans. This is about the quality of one of those ones priced at $30 or $40. If you're going to lay out $90, go the extra mile and buy something made with quality in mind such as Le Creuset or All Clad or Lodge!

Honest reviews on Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto

I bought this for a weekend away with friends and was very disappointed with the function of this beautiful product. First, it is dangerous. I found that the front loop touched the plastic knob on my cooktop and melted it a bit. I had to keep reminding myself that the knob on top was burning hot. It is natural to want to grab the handle or the top while making a panini. DON'T DO IT. I let the pan heat on medium for ten minutes and the sandwiches were beautiful on the bottom but only lightly browned on top so that I had to flip them. Needless to say, some of the interior parts of the layered sandwich fell out onto the grill and stuck like mad-very difficult to clean later. The final toasted panini still had to go into the microwave for a few seconds to melt the thinly sliced gruyere cheese so that I could serve it to my waiting friends. This was a stressful lunch as I had to go through this process three times to make sandwiches for six. I would prefer a press which does both sides of the sandwich at the same time. I thought this would and it didn't.

This is a reasonably priced pan compared to other tri-clad pans and I like the form factor (it is high for its width).

I have had it for four months now and use it a lot because it is a great pan.

Still works as new. I have not put it in the dishwasher.

Love, love this pan! Great size and feel. The handles are great. Truly nonstick, cleaning is a dream! Eggs, pancakes, anything you cook inside slides right off. My other pans are Martha Stewart brand and are no where near as good. The fact that it is made environmentally safe for the planet and safe for us as well is fantastic. Buying "Green" products is extremely important. After weeks of using, the bottom hasn't turned brown like my other pans. It still has the pretty green leaves design :) Looks brand new.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I first discovered the Ecolution Artistry pans in my local grocery store. At that time, I was in need of a griddle pan, so I decided to purchase their Ecolution Artistry 11" Griddle. I was attracted to the eco-friendly non-stick coating on these pans--they use a water-based, Hydrolon non-stick coating rather than traditional Teflon/PFOAs--and I admit, I also loved the cute green flower pattern on the bottom! I wound up loving the griddle, so I was interested in purchasing other pans from the Ecolution Artistry line.

I have found my new Ecolution Artistry Chicken Fryer to be excellent as well. As compared to the previous chicken fryer-type pan I was using, the Artistry is more light-weight, which is convenient for transferring food. However, it is the same size and still a substantial pot for cooking chicken or any top of stove-top one-dish meals. But the BEST part about this pan--and the entire Ecolution Artistry series--is the non-stick quality. Foods slide around in the pan--there is absolutely NO sticking! And the Artistry pans are a dream to clean. Although they are dishwasher-safe, I prefer to hand-wash (to preserve the outer finish as well as the overall life of the pans). I could practically just rinse this pot or wipe it out with a paper towel, it is THAT non-stick.

The only issue that I had with this particular pot is that I did NOT like the included high dome glass lid. Unlike the lids that come with other Ecolution Artistry pots (see Ecolution Artistry 8-Piece Cookware Set), which are relatively lightweight, tempered glass with metal edges, the included glass dome lid for the Chicken Fryer is VERY heavy and does not have the metal edge. It does not match the other pots in this series, and it seemed too bulky to be very functional to me. Since the lid of my old fryer pan was actually more similar to the others in the Artistry series, I wound up putting the knob from the high dome glass lid on my old lid, and now the old one is almost an exact match. I suppose some people may prefer the heavier glass lid, but this was an issue for me, and it was the sole reason that I rated this product 4 stars instead of 5.

Otherwise, I am extremely satisfied with this pan overall! I highly recommend the Ecolution Artistry series, both for their excellent non-stick performance as well as for their eco advantage.

Best Deals for Ecolution Artistry Chicken Fryer with High Dome Glass Lid

This pan was a delightful surprise. I've had Circulon, Calphalon and I prefer this one. So light (although the cover is somewhat heavy), but the helper handle is really great. Food cooks evenly and it's so easy to clean. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Honest reviews on Ecolution Artistry Chicken Fryer with High Dome Glass Lid

This is another great Ecolution pan but the lid has some problems in that it's really hard to tighten the handle enough on it to stabilize (you have to assemble the top handle to the lid upon arrival), and because the lid is so freaking heavy, the handle feels a bit loose when you lift it.

I'm trying to brainstorm a way to fix this situation. I might try an extra rubber grommet or something to help tighten it better.

Other than that, it cooks great and is VERY non-stick and I don't have to worry about 'fumes'.

I am very pleased with the way this pan cooks evenly. The pan also cleans very easily. I love that it has two handles for heavier food items. The only complaint I have is, the bottom of the pan has begun chipping already, pretty much after first use. AND the thing is, I have babied this pan because the bottom is so beautiful that I was extra careful, to no avail.

The heavy base and large capacity means when you plunge in a plate of still-moist homemade spagetti, the water keeps boiling, or returns to a full boil within a minute or so. Ours has stayed beautiful in our active kitchen for over a year despite constant use and frequent washing.

This is my favorite large kettle.

I can think of NOTHING wrong with this pot.

Update: 4/2005 (a year later) This is STILL the perfect pot for cooking large batches of pasta and two-chicken soups.

Update 5/2008 (4 years later) Still looks as good as new, and works just as well. We've given them as gifts, and they are always appreciated!

Okay, I'll admit that I'm a bit biased towards Farberware in the first place, but with this pot they've done just about everything right. The aluminum slug sealed into the base makes for very even heating, which is important since it's wider than most burners. And it holds up to high heat well I've been browning meat and making roux in mine for a few years now. The lid is snug enough without being a pain and the loop handles are nice the smaller Classic series stock pots have the molded plastic ones instead. The only thing I'd change in the design of the pot is to use a brushed finish I tend to prefer that over chrome because any chrome pot that I use very often ends up with a patina of scratches anyway, and I prefer that they all run in the same direction. But who's complaining? This pot performs where it counts it heats quickly and evenly and has taken quite a beating over the years without so much as a ding.

We bought both the 12 and 16 quart pots. We couldn't be happier. We have a large family and these sizes are great for pasta, sauce, corn, chili, BBQ...you name it. They are very sturdy, and the bottom is perfectly flat...something we need because we have a ceramic cooktop. They heat evenly and food doesn't stick. We were looking at pots that cost considerably more, but I'm glad we make the choice we did.

great pot for the kitchen. you can cook a lot with out running out of room. the very heavy bottom spreads the heat so you can sear the meat and then make the chili in the same pot. use it for pasta and don't worry about boil overs. love it

This is a huge pot. It may look small in the picture, but it's 4 gallons, so it'll fit a lot of food. It'd be great for lobsters, I suppose, but if you are not inclined as to boil live animals, this pot is great for stews, soups, and chili. It's really big, but it has an extra thick bottom that distributes heat evenly, so no spot gets heated more than another making for good stews. Left on very low heat, it can pretend to be a slow cooker. Also, it's made of stainless steel and no food sticks to its sides or bottom. I have been using it constantly since I got it and I highly recommend it. I got it on sale I'm really happy with it.
