Cheap Simplex Heritage Gas Tea Kettle, Chrome

Simplex Heritage Gas Tea Kettle, Chrome

I've had this kettle for about 7 years and I felt compelled to give it my" thumbs up". I moved recently and had to leave my kettle behind. I am looking for a temporary replacement but none of the kettles I've looked at seemed to have all of the qualities I look for: design, whistle, cool handle, quick boil, no-fuss whistle removal, and capacity. Well, this kettle has it all (it's not modern, but the design is simple and timeless)! The whistle is in the spout, so there's nothing to remove when you pour ( this doesn't affect the water flow). Boils water super-fast! The handle is always cool (wood). Love it! Of course, it is a bit pricey, but it will last you a lifetime.

Bought this to replace our Chantal Classic 1 4/5qt tea kettle. First of all, it's absolutely beautiful from every angle. A really gorgeous kettle, classic curves, stunning!!! A true timelessness, like having the Queen Mother in your kitchen, boiling up a spot of tea. We've gotten compliments from everyone, from Al the plumber to the newly married Google exec (who was a bit wistful at having recently chosen the Chantal).

Next point of comparison, function: the kettle has a turned wooden handle and can therefore be picked up off the boil without a potholder, a difference that we appreciated after the Chantal. Also the whistle is built into the lid, and will never need to be replaced, which is why we got rid of the Chantal (it had a gorgeous train-like harmonic whistle, but the reed-fitting costs $20+ to replace, and stopped working after a few months). After using it whistle-less for a period of time we decided to go with a replacement that would save us money by using less energy rather than spending money buying replacement parts. Also, the Simplex is a breeze to keep shiny and clean, buffs clean with a dry or damp cloth, cleans up like brand-new even after sullen teenagers have splatter-fried foods on the neighboring burner. By comparison, the Chantal charcoal grey enamel required it's own bullet-point on my to-do list when needing to be cleaned. In addition this kettle holds a generous amount of water, enough to brew up four giant mugs of tea or fill a large french coffee press with water left over for a cup or two of hot cocoa for the kids.

Finally, energy efficiency. Before tossing the Chantal into the Good Will box I conducted a test to see if the coils on the bottom of the new kettle really did make a difference: The Simplex boiled the same amount of water on the same flame setting in exactly 3/4th's of the time; 6 minutes vs. 8 minutes for the Chantal.

Oh, and by the way, even the teenagers give the new kettle two sullen thumbs up. I haven't told them yet that "Good Will Box" is really a euphemism for "stuff you get to take when you leave for college."

I am extremely pleased with this tea kettle. I have had many whistling tea kettles over my lifetime, but I definitely like this one the best of all. Aesthetically, it is a beautiful tea kettle and has an old fashioned charm. It feels very solid and not flimsy at all. In the past, I have had tea kettles that once they whistle and you go to pour the hot water into your cup or tea pot, they sputter all over the place -sometimes even splashing your hands a bit! This tea kettle pours very nicely once it whistles. It has been very satisfying all around -I'm pleased.

Honest reviews on Simplex Heritage Gas Tea Kettle, Chrome

The Simplex Chrome Whistling Tea Kettle is the fastes boiling kettle that I have ever found. It has a large capacity and is, to my eye, extremly attractive. The whistle is loud enough to be heard through out the house. I believe that the all copper version is a little faster to come to a boil, but as copper has to be cleaned constantly to look good, I'd rather wait the extra few moments to achieve a boil for the "wash and ware" chrome model. This extremly well made kettle has been in constant use in my home for 18 years. It has paid for it's self may times over with it's quick to boil design and when the time comes to replace this old friend I will pay what ever price I have to replace it with another Simplex Chrome Whistling Gas Stove Tea Kettle.

I just got the first run of the 2012 back-in-production simplex kettles, and its quite beautiful out of the box. Honestly, I want to love this kettle but something is not right. My family had the traditional copper simplex kettle as a kid and I immediately sensed this new make (coated with chrome) feels lighter. It also sounds like a toddler learning to whistle, lid tight down, even with a little more heat than you should use according to the directions. I remember the original piping loud and clear, and this is not close. Nothing I see explicitly says it is "Made in England," a selling point, either on the kettle or it's packaging. Given the hassle and wait getting this through Amazon, I'm not sure I dislike it enough to return it, but for the money I am not thrilled. Sorry.

BEWARE! This lid is so light (8.3 ounces) and thinly made that it bends easily. It is one or two grades above a disposable aluminum pan. It does the job of covering a 17" cast iron skillet, but it would have been better if it was domed more.

The non-stick surface of this pan is great and it looks like the construction is excellent too. The only problem I have is that the pan warps very slightly when heated which makes it rock on a flat top electric stove. It would be perfect for a gas stove or a stove with electric coils, but not a glass/ceramic flat top. I sent the first pan back because of this and the second one seemed better, but still warps enough to rock slightly. I use it at the lowest heat I can to try to minimize this effect. Too bad I have two flat top stoves.

This cookware does the job providing even heat throughout your cooking process. The surface is super slick but gives you a nice foundation for searing, braising and pan frying and lends itself to a variety of sauce making applications. A simply pan reduction sauce is a snap and cleanup is a breeze, with paper towel no less. The nicest features are the stay cool recycled stainless steel handle mirrored with the ability to finish your meal preparation in the oven or broiler.

The deep rich browning created by this pan is uniform and flavorful. Don't let the competition sway you, cooking till black is not the new brown! So, if you are going green, get this cookware, it's certainly your next step! If you wish to look at one up close and feel the quality for yourself then head on over to your nearest Le Gourmet Chef outlet store, you will not be disappointed.

I recently prepared Chicken Marsala utilizing this pan and a Simply Calphalon Saute Pan. Both pans performed well but the golden brown searing and coloration was more developed in the Cuisinart pan. I also was able to adjust the gas at a lower flame under the Cuisinart pan. The Calphalon pan was searing at 8 out of 10 on the cook-top range whereas the Cuisinart pan was searing at 4 out of 10. The fond left on the pan from the searing in the Cuisinart pan was also more developed and added to the Marsala recipe quite nicely.

I will post a comment and update the link when I test the new Calphalon Unison searing pan against the Cuisinart GreenGourmet Saute pan.

I bought this pan after owning the Cuisinart GreenGourmet 12 inch skillet (Hard Anodized). I used to use stainless steel only and was very apprehensive about any non-stick surface, especially after the news of health concerns linked to Tephlon coated pans. I received my first Cuisinart GreenGourmet pan from a friend who wanted to convert me to a non-stick pan user. After learning about the safety of hard-anodized and ceramica, I became comfortable using this pan. It very quickly became my favorie pan. I added this 5.5 Quart Saute pan to my collection and it functions as my work horse for those larger quantity recipies such as chili. The pan is not only BEAUTIFUL, it is quite versatile. I have used it for a variety of applications from stove, to high broiler, to flambe. It does it all. It is oven and broiler safe. The ceramica finish is easy to clean and is heats up quickly and evenly. As per the instructions, I have never had to turn the stove past medium/high, even to boil water in this pan ... yes boil water. The cooking area is great for making noodles, especially lasagna noodles without having to break them to fit into the pot. This pan also comes with a lid that can be used on the Cuisinart 12-inch Skillet (which does not come with a lid).

Amazon offers a VERY good price for the GreenGourmet line. The GreenGourmet line is hard to find (Target, Walmart don't carry them). Bed Bath and Beyond charges full price, and even with a coupon you are not getting it for the everyday price offered by Amazon. A real bargain.

Thanks for reading :-)

Honest reviews on Cuisinart GG33-30H GreenGourmet Hard-Anodized Nonstick 5-1/2-Quart

As with most Cuisinart products, this pan is outstanding. When compared to products of similar quality (AllClad, etc) this pan is quite affordable, and somewhat better to use. Its heat distribution is superb & uses lower temperatures, its non-stick surface is excellent & durable, its stovetop-to-oven feature is as good as any ordinary pan BETTER actually, since it is a non-stick. The cover fits quite well and seals in moisture & heat. Its rounded lip allows pouring more neatly & more quickly than other high end lines a very welcomed feature, as is the helper handle which not all pans of this size have. As an extremely active amateur chef and avid foodie, I cook a GREAT deal and the Cuisinart GreenGourmet line this pan in particular has become the principal cooking implement in our kitchen. The additional health safety features are a plus which must not be overlooked.

Imperial 24 Quart Stockpot With Glass Lid, Hammertone
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I have no hesitation recommending this pot to others. I purchased the 8.5 Qt model. Here are some of the things you might want to know.

The knob on the lid has a ridge around the top that makes it easy to grip and control even with an oven mitt.

The handles do stay cool. Even after bringing a full pot of pasta to boil till done the handles were cool to the touch. I would still use mitts to drain to avoid contact with the pot body. But being able to grab the handles to hold the pot steady while stirring was nice.

Filled to 2/3rds full with water and 32oz of spaghetti there was still over a quarter of the depth left. That allowed me to bring the pot to boil on high with out boiling over. Unlike previous pots, there was no splash over onto the cook top. No clean up! The bottom surface is an exact match for the surface of my 9" burner on our ceramic cook top. The bottom surface is flat and sits flush with no wobbling. When bringing the water to boil there was 100% coverage of boil bubbles across the bottom and during cooking there was even boiling thru out the pasta.

The non-stick interior is as it's supposed to be, non-stick. The hammertone exterior came clean with a rinse under the faucet and wiping with a damp cloth.

The handles are large enough to get a good grip on but don't stick out as far as some of the others. A plus to, me to save some storage space.

Overall an excellent value.

This is neither a great pot nor a terrible one it's more of an in-betweener. The pot doesn't seem very sturdy, but it works well for college students. I've used the pot for frying, boiling, simmering and general cooking and have had no problems with food sticking or burning. It does a great job at heating food evenly.

The handles are a bit on the large side and the glass of the lid makes noises when simply removed from the hot pot (like ice dropped in water except without the cracking), but so far I have found nothing to actually worry about. Cleaning is pretty simple. I recommend hand-washing the pot because I'm not sure how many dishwasher cycles it could handle.

I'm pleased with the pot, but like I said, anyone looking for serious cooking might want to purchase something more durable.

Umm, It seems bigger than my imagination. Its heating capability is very good. And its special material makes it easy to wash. The manual says it shows the greatest effect with medium heat, thus I didn't dare to heat it at high heating even once, which made the overall cooking time longer.

Honest reviews on Imperial Aluminum Stockpots with Glass Lid

Not only is this thing huge, but nothing sticks. When I clean it, I rarely ever have to scrub it. Just run it under hot soapy water, and stuff glides off it. Amazing.

We have had this item for several months, and it has done what it was meant to do.

I purchased this because we needed more room for soups, vegetables, etc. The 10 quarts give plenty of room.

Some of the Positives of the stockpot are the price and clear lid. Also, it is incredibly easy to clean and we have used it with a variety of meals.

One of the Negatives I have noticed is that the handles seem a little flimsy. You get what you pay for, I guess.

You will like this if you just need a big stockpot and don't want to spend a fortune. I am sure you can get your money out of it.

You won't like this if you are a professional cook, or only buy top of the line products.

These are standard cheap coated teflon pans. A little disappointing for being Farberware. Two pans for 25 bucks, you get what you pay for. They'll do the job and for the price you can't miss. After a couple of years they will wear out like similar pans. But don't think you're getting top of the line cookware. The first egg I cooked in the 8.5 stuck slightly. The teflon finish was rougher than I expected. I have other cheap teflon coated pans that have a smoother finish and they are better than these. Also, the angle of the edge is not conducive to flipping fried eggs. I would not buy these again, I don't recommend them, but they will serve their purpose.

It is so very hard to find decent pans to cook with these days. Most are made cheaply and stick or burn everything. Not these pans. these are high quality pans. I bought these pans to try first after buying a whole set of other brand pans from somewhere else that was a disaster. These pans are heavy and made of superior materials. The nonstick finish says it is metal safe and it really is. I've never had pans with this type of nonstick in them and I absolutely love them. No more scratches on my good pans from the kids using the wrong utensils to cook with.

They are also oven safe to 500 degrees. Which makes these pans very versatile. I will be looking for a complete set of this line. Well worth every penny and as with all of my other Farberware purchases will last a long time. I have a roasting pan that I use almost every day for just about everything.I bought it in 1987. Now a days pans don't last 6 months let alone 26years! After the last fiasco with other pans I'm sticking with Farberware.

Honest reviews on Farberware Millennium Stainless Steel Tulip Series 8-1/2

They weren't listed as seconds, but the handle of one pan looked like it had been scraped up and recoated, and there were rough burs on the end of the handle. Yes, the pan will work fine. But it's not attractive. The other pan handle was fine.

The angle at which the handle is attached to the pan is tight. not enough to seal things out, but too narrow to easily clean. It is rivetted against the pan, then curves up and out. The part where it goes up, before it bends out, is where it goes up against the pan but not quite. I anticipate this will turn gross in time.

Also, the shape is not idea. Instead of a curve from the base up the walls, it is flat, then slants up. This makes it not great for flipping something with a flick of the wrist. Loose things will be tossed fine, but if you are flipping something like a crispy scallion pancake, it's not a great shape.

The 'metal guard' claim is a farce. The teflon began flaking off the first month and is getting steadily worse, making cooking a health hazard. We did not abuse these pans and the non stick coating is not holding up. Not very tough at all. I can not recommend this product.

I've had a handful of pieces of LeCreuset Stainless Steel Cookware for about two months, cooking roughly 19 meals per week. They're all great performers and very attractive. This line is basically All-Clad Stainless for 20% less. They are made in China, which is a sticking point for some people, but I am convinced that quality has not suffered. It's simply an incredible pan for a better price. Other reviews state that this line approaches or equals All-Clad Stainless, and surpasses Calphalon Stainless.

These pans are fully clad, meaning the aluminum core extends up the sides; it's not only in the bottom. They are incredibly responsive on my gas stovetop. I actually thought they were too fast when I first got them, but now it's just another quality I appreciate. They heat quickly and extremely evenly. You often use a lower heat to achieve the same results.

The handles are comfortable, a good length, and rarely get too hot (obviously, they get hot during oven use). They are made to fit through the handles of the lids, which is a convenient storing option. And incidentally, the lids are great, since they're stainless, too, instead of glass. This means no crud build-up around the edge, and they seal great. The rolled edge truly does make pours a no-drip affair. The pan is balanced and light, but with enough heft to feel substantial and well-made.

It has an excellent lifetime warranty. Thankfully I haven't had to use that, but I did use it with a Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-Inch Oval Fish Skillet, Flame, and was very pleased. (It was a lengthy process at nearly a month, but given that I got a brand new replacement for a $200 pan that was 4 years old, it seemed quite generous.)

This pan in particular has a wide surface area and a deep bowl. It's easy to maneuver tools in it (I'd avoid metal utensils), and the sloped side means this pan is essentially a saucier, sauté pan, wok, and small saucepan all in one. I've seared meats and made soup. It also braises well for small portions. One note, because of the generous sloping of the bowl, the flat cooking surface is only about 6-1/4". If you need to braise enough meat for more than two people, you'd do better with a 12" skillet. The lid also fits the Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless-Steel 9-1/2-Inch Fry Pan.

Quality cookware like this makes a big difference if you cook frequently. It gets to temperature faster, heats evenly without burning in spots, recovers quicker and keeps its temperature easier. Since it handles well, it's more pleasant to cook with, moving easily around the kitchen, and holding still on the cooktop.

It cleans easily. I use regular dish soap most of the time. Bon Ami 04030 Bon Ami Cleaning Cake and Powder, 12-Ounce is my regular scouring powder, though Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ leaves the pan with a little extra sparkle (powder only, I Strongly dislike the liquid), which is nice since these pans are so pretty. Le Creuset makes a Le Creuset 12-Ounce Stainless Steel Cleaner, but I haven't yet tried it.

I love the LC Stainless cookware I have, and am looking forward to getting a little more.

I know kitchens -I worked as a short-order cook for years.

This is a quality piece of cookware. Decent weight, well-machined. Berndes' non-stick coating is, for me, the standard against which I compare all others (and it's the only non-stick cookware I've ever been happy with). We've had the first pan for a year or three, and my wife still hasn't managed to destroy it. Yet.

For me, a HUGE plus (and what makes the purchase a no-brainer) is that there are no rivets inside the pan. (IMHO, rivets have no business on the inside of any pan - makes cooking & clean-up more work.)

It's quite simply a flawless omelet pan. I've not used anything better at any price.

The label says it was made in Germany but, given that the eggs seem to be floating on an air cushion and not touching the pan at all, I'm thinking it was created by aliens.

Victorio VKP1014 4-Tray Kitchen Seed Sprouter
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I decided to get the Victorio 4-tray sprouter after looking at all the available options (sprouter cup, all the other brands of sprouters with stacking trays). Based on the price and the transclucent nature of the trays, I settled on this one and am really glad I did. My seeds (from the Sprout House, ordered on Amazon) sprout in 4 days, growing upright in this sprouter. My sprouts really flourished with this sprouter. This compared to a mason jar, which yielded me significantly fewer, less vigorous sprouts.

I love the convenience and functionality of this. It's got a tiny footprint-This is a must since I have literally four sq ft of counter space in my apartment's kitchenette. Yet, the four trays will accommodate the growth of more sprouts than I can eat in a week. On the design.. The water drains quickly, usually within 10 minutes. I've had a couple problems with water not draining, although that is probably because the mature sprouts have a root network that tends to hold in water, so it's a problem inherent in how sprouts grow rather than a flaw with the sprouter. At any rate, I've had 0 problems with mold. Some unsprouted seeds may also find their way into the holes. While two or three clogged holes won't impede draining much, they are difficult to get out. A simple solution is to have a floss pick handy, as the pointy end will easily unwedge the stuck seeds.

If you're looking for a cheap, simple way of sprouting sprouts, I highly recommend this. While bulkier than the sprouting cup, it has 4x as much space for sprouts than a sprouting cup. I have not personally tried using the cup, and while one advantage of the cup is that the hulls are easily removed, I'm glad I went with this as I'm sure I would be eating more sprouts with the tray sprouter. Bottom line.. This item might seriously be one of the best inventions in kitchen gardening.

WHY WHEATGRASS?

Dr. Ann Wigmore on wheatgrass:

Wheatgrass contains the greatest variety of vitamins and minerals and trace elements, and 15 pounds of fresh wheatgrass is equal to 350 pounds of the choicest vegetables.

The molecular structure of wheatgrass closely resembles hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein of red blood cells, which may be the reason for the effectiveness of chlorophyll. The only difference between the two is that the metallic atom in the molecule of human blood is iron, while the metallic atom of chlorophyll is magnesium

[Wheatgrass juice]. . . has helped to eliminate cancerous growths, and helped many other disorders, including mental health problems.

=====

My takeaway from Dr. Wigmore's information is that wheatgrass juice is equivalent to blood, except for the difference in iron and magnesium, and that wheatgrass juice is an excellent way to ingest the benefits of 'vegetables'; in fact 23 times the benefit of equivalent weight in vegetables; and due to the oxygenating properties, wheatgrass juice both cures and prevents physical as well as mental problems.

A good source of quality wheat to sprout in #10 cans (56oz. $10 + $6 shipping) or 42 pound 'superpails' ($44.95 + $6 shipping): can be ordered from beprepared.com Only drawback is a 4 week delivery time. Fantastic shipping rates: $0-60 order ships for $ 6; $61-$120 order ships for $9; $120+ order ships for $12.

REVIEW:

This is a round 4-tier tray set that equals 113 Sq. Inches, (equivalent to a 10½" x 10½" tray) of grow space. BUT it has a 6" footprint! The grow height between trays is 1 9/16" so I like to separate trays into individual planters once the sprouts are large enough.

Each tray = 28¼ square inches. Start seed in one tray, wait 2 days, another tray. . . Keep the first tray on top and there's continuous fresh sprouts in a 6" footprint.

My average wheatgrass juice yield taken during 40 harvests of each individual tray equals 4½ fl. ounces! 1 set of 4 trays yields 18 fl. ounces of wheatgrass juice! Cool. I use 2 sets, planting wheat seed daily for a daily harvest (The grass stores extremely well in the refrigerator for a week until as many trays as you want to juice are harvested. Or, grow all at once & . . .)

Love the "Healthy Juicer Wheatgrass Juicer" It comes complete with spare parts for the wear areas!

This system is scientifically designed with high and low rings in the bottom of each tray with drain holes to prevent over-watering of the seed. The roots can rest on top of the ring, or grow down into the bottom if it is hungry for water. Point is that the design makes it very difficult to over-water.

I grew several different types of seed beyond the sprout stage with outstanding success using this system for hydroponics without soil or any soil substitute whatsoever.

The root system interlocks into a mass that holds the plants erect and the 6" diameter supports the root mass; so there is no need for soil or soil substitutes to support the crop. I grew thick robust wheatgrass to 11" harvested it; juiced it and it regenerated a second crop with no messy dirt!

Second growths' will not be as thick as the 1st as some plants die during harvesting. The third growth is not worth it when a fresh, thicker planting of fresh seed will yield much more juice.

I even let green peas, soy beans, and several more seed types grow to around 8" to test the results for soil-less hydroponics growing with success for all seed. No dirt, no mess, better, faster growing, healthier plants. Just add nutrient formula below and watch your sprouts explode!

These trays grow heavy yields, without soil or dirt, and hydroponics is extremely simple. It even allows root inspection and cleaning.

Here is a very effective hydroponics nutrient solution formula:

1 gal. container with tight cap to shake and mix following solution.

4 quarts tap / city water if available (prevents mold, mildew) 337 ppm

Add each item below to 2 quarts water and shake vigorously, add remaining water and adjust pH.

1 good teaspoon Peter's Special or Miracle Grow 100% Water Soluble fertilizer. est.582 ppm

¼ heaping teaspoon calcium est. 400 ppm (Easy source is Damp Rid)

¼ heaping teaspoon Epsom Salts est. 150 ppm (magnesium & sulfur)

1 teaspoon household grade USP peroxide. 0 PPM 0 pH change

1 rounded teaspoon Azomite trace minerals (optional) est 10ppm & raises ph 0.5

(pH down acid: 1/16th to 1/8th teaspoon will drop pH est. 0.4 > 0.8 & slightly raise ppm.)

Yields an excellent nutrient measuring approx. 1,500 ppm > 2.000 ppm

Azomite: Read analysis report to decide if you want to use Azomite or not. It has 66 trace ingredients. Azomite is available from Amazon.com and other sources such as sevenspringsfarm.com (best price).

Test pH, adjust to 6.5 to 7.0 for wheatgrass. General Hydroponics pH Down Dry Mix or liquid is an excellent acidifier. Baking soda will raise pH.

Once you have the right pH the wheatgrass is explosive with this formula! Most plants grow in the 5.5>6.5 pH range. In other words, you may need several pH nutrient mixes, depending on your crops. Generally 6.0 is acceptable for most crops.

I feed my crops with the Nalgene LDPE Economy Wash Bottle (from Amazon) by inserting the spout in the center of the growth or shooting straight down while making circles. The bottle eliminates splashing and delivers a steady stream where wanted.

The Milwaukee Instruments PH600AQ Ph Tester that I purchased from Amazon.com does an excellent job. For valuable crops, also purchase a pH control solution to test your meter's accuracy.

Wheat seed: Approx. 3/4oz. per 10 square inches of growing area. Use 3 4 tablespoons (liquid measure) seed for each 6" round tray. Err to the heavy side if your wheat does not have a high germination rate. In other words; adjust seed volume to germination rate of your seed. Low germination rate causes problems. See below about discarding un-sprouted husks & seed.

Sprouting. Soak 4-6 hrs. Use hydroponic nutrient solution. See Tips below about peroxide.

Feeding: When using as a grow tray, each tray will be separated (not stacked), and needs to be put into a suitable collection container to facilitate collection or reuse of the nutrient solution. I use soup bowls to catch nutrient runoff. Use about 3 ounces nutrient each feeding. 3oz. is plenty of liquid to wet the roots.

Provide nutrient as often as appropriate for the heat, humidity and crop size. The tips will lose a little color and may get droopy (depends on crop) if there is not enough water. If your tray drain holes are open and the tray is above the nutrient level it will be very hard to over-water.

TIPS: If you suspect any unsavory condition such as mold, mildew, or odors; simply turn the crop over into your hand and rinse the roots under the faucet and wash loose seed and husks away. Husks cause a lot of mold and rot slime. Replace into the tray, rearrange any awkward plants, feed it generously and watch it grow!

Homemade nutrient is so inexpensive that it is great to mix a fresh batch each planting and use the leftover nutrient on other plants. This saves a lot of monitoring and adjusting pH & EC/TDS because most sprouts and wheatgrass will be harvested within 10 days of initial soak.

CX Hydroponics has a great explanation on pH, EC, CF, PPM.

GO| cxhydroponics.net/faq (The HM COM100 Waterproof EC/TDS And Temperature Combo Meter is an excellent tool to read the EC/TDS/PPM value directly as it automatically compensates for temperature No need to consult a chart!) Customized and accurate nutrient mixes can be obtained by use of this tool.

Sunflower seed is a 'lettuce substitute" and has a high volume yield and generally an extremely high germination rate of huge, fat sprouts. 40pounds for $10 is an outstanding survival food to stock. Shelf life is for more than a year.

Wheatgrass harvest: Cut tips off top. Turn over into hand and use scissors to cut sprouts above root line, pick off any husks and weak or discolored plants. Rinse vigorously & put in a glass of water to allow capillary action to swell the blades, shake excess water off & juice, or refrigerate. Root mass can be replaced in tray and 2nd generation will grow, but not as large.

Peroxide is used as both a nutrient additive or cleaning agent that is helpful. Claims are made that the extra oxygen molecule is released, making nutrient solution better for roots & thus growth.

Best Deals for Victorio VKP1014 4-Tray Kitchen Seed Sprouter

This seed sprouter works surprisingly well. All the water drains quickly to the bottom and the seeds start sprouting within a couple of days. I liked it so much that I ordered a second one.

Honest reviews on Victorio VKP1014 4-Tray Kitchen Seed Sprouter

I decided on this sprouter after a lot of research and have had numerous successful crops. It arrived sooner than I expected and in perfect condition. It is small and does not take up a lot of space on the counter and is easy to clean. I soak the seeds overnight before putting them in the trays. After most of the water has drained, I empty the bottom white tray and tip all 4 clear trays a bit so they sit securely on the bottom tray and they drain thoroughly ..... it looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I put them in a warmer part of the house if I want them to grow faster. I have used small seed mixes like alfalfa, clover and radish and bigger ones like lentils, peas and mung and they all do well. If it is really humid, I put the smaller seeds on top and tilt the individual trays as needed to give extra air circulation. If it is hot, I give them a spritz of water between waterings. I use a toothpick to get the small seeds out of the drainage holes, but there are not a lot of them.

The amount of sprouts from 4 trays is about perfect for one person who eats a lot of sprouts. I like them in all stages of growing, from 2 6 days. I need to remember to put some of them in the sun, so that I also get the benefits of the chlorophyll. I have saved so much money on sprouts in just one month and know that they are grown with good water and positive energy.

I would love to find an inexpensive source for getting seeds delivered, there is no big city very near to where I live.

I VERY rarely review products but I think this sprouter is great enough I felt obligated. Over the years I have used at least 6 different types of sprouters ranging from a jar with a nylon or screen lid to the easy sprouter and the Sprout Master mini sprouters. I much prefer this new sprouter. I have tried alfalfa, mung beans, and several seed mixes and they have all turned out beautifully! I have found it is faster if I presoak the seeds, even the alfalfa, and they mature faster in the trays with not a sign of problems. I rinse with good water twice a day and wash the trays in the top rack of the dishwasher (mine does not have a drying cycle)and the sprouts have been wonderful. I bought a second set because I wanted extra trays and I have sprouted 6 trays at a time successfully (I have not tried more because we do not consume more than that). I have learned that unless I have some fairly well started sprouts in the top tray I prefer to put an empty tray on top and put the water into that so it does not disturb the seeds on the next tray. ENJOY!

We decided to switch from non-stick cookware to stainless steel because we didn't like using toxic non-stick coating. Additionally, our child was diagnosed with gluten sensitivities and stainless cookware is easier to clean (scratches in coating on other cookware can hide food particles). If you are not accustomed to using stainless cookware, you need to do some research! For starters, ONLY use medium to medium-high heat (never high heat). On my glass top stovetop, my gauge reads 1 through 10, and I typically use 4, 5, or 6 when cooking with stainless.

* This pan heats evenly and food cooks fast.

* Easy to elean.

* The glass lid from Hamilton Beach's 5-qt. Stainless Steel Dutch Oven fits this pan perfectly (I bought them together in a store).

* I always use metal utensils with my stainless pots & pans. No scratches.

* Bottom of this pan reads dishwasher, gas, and electric safe.

* Made for Hamilton Beach by Kitchen Collection. Made in China.

* I love the flared edge (curved) so I can pour a meal out onto plates or serving dish easily.

* Comfortable handle doesn't get hot.

This pan looks great but should not claim to be an "Omelet" pan. Tried numerous times to make Omelets but they all stuck to the pan right in the center. Yes, I used low heat & Butter, Pam, etc...but everyone stuck.

I was looking for a large oven-safe stainless steel skillet and ended up choosing this pan. Functionally the encapsulated aluminum-disk base seems to give good even heating. The polished finish on the pan is very good. I was surprised by the poor quality on the cast stainless steel handle. The polishing job done on the handle is very poor, which because of its shape has to be done by hand. The hang hole in the handle is uneven/jagged and looks cut by hand. Inside of the hole it's unpolished w/ black marks (which are from the casting) and there are other dings and blemishes in the handle.

The poor quality of the handle makes me question the quality of the skillet as a whole and I'm concerned about how long this skillet will last me. That being said the actual pan portion of the skillet seems to be well made and hopefully will hold up.

This is an excellent pan that would rate 5 stars except for the sharp edges around the handle of the glass top.

A hazard to tender fingers and knuckles. I have made a jury rig solution by taping these sharp edges it remains to be seen if this is a permanent solution.

Honest reviews on Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel 12" Covered Skillet

This pan is well worth the price. I have already used it several times and I'm extremely pleased with it. It is also very easy to clean -just soaking for a while and wiping will do the trick.

These things do the job but they are so tiny! They only fit one of the burners on my stove (the smallest one). So unless you have a stove where all four of your burners are the tiniest size available, then I would try to find a multi-pack with different sizes.

Just bought brand new burner drip pans for my electric stove. Wanted to protect them and keep them clean. These "small" ones, are doing the job! (Used to use aluminum foil. A REAL MESS!) I had to buy another set of "large" ones though, for my other two bigger burners. It might be good if they sold one set consisting of 4 small and 4 large?

So I have a good supply of small and large now! Anything that helps lightens a busy person's load is super in my book!

Need to get some of the larger sizes for my two large burners. they work just fine.

Honest reviews on Ez Foil/Reynolds 88006A Stove Burner Bib Liners, Electric, Small

These are such a big help with keeping the pans for the electric stove clean. They fit well on my stove and can be rinsed and re-used if you clean them before stuff burns on.

If you want cleaner burners the easy way, this is the way to go. Works better than aluminum foil and looks much better too. I'd definitely recommend these to anyone wanting a cleaner stove. We'll be buying more when these wear out!

My Mother gave this set to me as a birthday present this year. I knew nothing of it, so I was skeptical at first. I've been an avid baker for nearly 2 decades and I can honestly say I've never been more pleased with a set of bakeware. It's completely non-stick, from my ooey gooey whole wheat cinnamon buns to loaves of freshly baked sandwich breads and hamburger buns! They literally slide out, without any greasing or oiling of the pans. They are heavy duty, so they don't bend up in the heat. If you get these pans you will not be disappointed!

I have been looking for good quality baking pans for YEARS. Have spent TONS of money on so called quality pans. These are the best I have Ever used. BY FAR. My roasted potato's slide right off as do my sausage pin wheels (which generally end up with me soaking and scrubbing about six times lol) Slide right off. I know one reviewer complained about sweet dishes but I have baked cakes (come out better than they used to in different brands pans and I did nothing different) Baked my favorite Carmel dessert and it didn't stick either (which has NEVER happened before) my sweet dishes just don't stick in these pans no matter what I've baked. Cookies my biggest problem was getting them out of the pan because they just slide all around.

These are heavy duty pans. They have a nonstick coating that really is non stick in my experiance. Also these are Dishwasher safe so you can run them through your dishwasher if you like. But with all my good pans I wouldn't run them through the dishwasher. And these are so nonstick that its easy cleaning them by hand.

These pans are amazing and I will be changing all my metal bakewear to these. And this set per peice is less than ten per peice so its well worth the price. I recommend these pans to EVERYONE.

The only reason I did not give this item a full 5 stars was because of something one of the other reviewers mentioned that kind of bothered me as well. The pans are very, very slippery when in the oven. The bottoms of the pans IMO should not be slick like the rest of the pan, but they are. When I tried to take the cake pans out of the oven they were sliding all over the place so be very cautious about this. Another reviewer mentioned to only make casseroles in these dishes. I made a triple layer white cake with orange curd filling and it turned out wonderfully! The cake came right out of the pan with no troubles at all. I use a butter and flour mixture to grease the pans while the other reviewer mentioned shortening which could be a factor. All in all I love these pans and am happy about my purchase.

Honest reviews on Rachael Ray Oven Lovin' Non-Stick 5-Piece Bakeware Set, Orange

I have NEVER had pans that LITERALLY-the food slides right out of. Made a cake-and didn't even need to "knock" on the bottom to get it to come out...you tip the pan and it really just slides out-amazing! Also made a roast/potatoes/etc in the same pan (obviously not at the same time) and the same thing happened-slides right out. Obviously helpful for a quick and easy clean-up. No messy liquids "crusted" on the bottom. Just have to rinse after use, and there's NOTHING left in the pan. The BEST non-stick pans I've ever owned. Love RR and LOVE these pans! The handles are a bit tricky-you still have to be careful with the silicon and grabbing it since it's surrounded still by the metal, but still a great deal-and I got it for cheaper than some other non-stick "brand name" pans that didn't last long and rusted out. Happy I made the purchase-would recommend!

Bought this set for my wife. She loved it...until she started cooking with it.

Pros

Heavy weight with solid feel

The orange inserts look cool and help the grip

Cons

Scratch very easily

Cakes stick A LOT unless you grease the pans heavily

My wife says they do not cook nearly as evenly as her other sets

After 6 months, this set has been relegated to the back of the closet.
