My only beef is that they do not come with lids and the lid from my old 10" T-fal that these are replacing does not fit this 10" T-fal. Other than that they are great pans for the money.

La Crueset enameled cast iron pots are expensive, but durable and nonstick. This pot looks beautiful, and a few of my friends have admired it. I've used it half a dozen times with excellent results. Crucial to success is familiarity with cast iron heat control. Heat the pot first at medium, not higher. Put your oil or butter and wait till it's hot, then put whatever you're cooking. Stir only with nonmetal implements, not to scratch the enamel. After adding braising or stewing liquid, be it soup, wine or tomatoe sauce, you can raise the heat above medium. Once it boils, lower the heat to low and braise. The results are excellent and predictable. I haven't been disappointed once. This is my second La Crueset pot. Once again, heat control is key to enjoying these pots. It's different from the regular pots and pans in that regard.

I couldn't live without this dutch oven. I use it almost everyday and for almost everything I cook: soups, casseroles, stews, braising large cuts of meat. Even if I'm cooking a smaller amount of something that doesn't necessarily require such a large size pot it is wonderful because it allows for experimentation and adding additional ingredients without worrying about having to change to a larger pot. Recently I was making bread and broke my clay Romertof and used the Le Creuset to bake the bread. It was the best loaf I've ever baked, perhaps because the heavy lid seals so well. Just be sure to change out to the higher temp lid knob for high-heat oven use. The only drawback, as another reviewer mentioned, is that the diameter is larger than most stove top burners and that causes crowding on the stove top with other pots. However, you won't have a heat distribution problem with the Le Crueset, even if the bottom extends farther than the ring of the range burner, provided you bring the pot up to temp slowly, and as recommended.

Where do I start, maybe the price, got such a deal on a "used" Le Creuset. The oven was brand new, except the box was a little bent but who cares about the box! Saved almost 50% off the "new" price.

Cooked with it the first day we received it, the braised oxtail browned perfectly and braised for 4 hours. Yummy.

Already thinking of other dishes to make with the new French oven.

A bit on the heavy side but this will last forever if we take care of it. Thank goodness I have a farmer's sink so there is no problem fitting in the sink.

Will always look at the "used" items now before paying full price.

Honest reviews on Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 13-1/4-Quart Round French

Le Creuset is amazing (I have four of these) but make sure you know how big this thing is. ITS HUGE! We have a conventional cooktop and this guy just barely fits on the cooktop with smaller pans around it.

No regret I got this size, this is what I need for big cooking. Our family is big and when we gather for a get together, I will not think twice to double my recipe.

I always wanted to have this french oven, I just enjoy slow cooking and surely this casserole is great deal!

This is the upgraded Cuisinart Smart Stick that has accessories. The basic unit does not come with the chopper unit or the whisk; both of these accessories are very useful.

The chopper will handle small amounts of herbs such as parsley or rosemary, and easily chop half an onion or some garlic. This means that if you don't have a small bowl attachment for your food processor (or don't have a food processor) you still can do small chopping tasks that are messy on a cutting board.

The whisk allows you to beat egg whites to stiff peaks, necessary for meringues or cakes. As long as your bowl is clean of grease, it is short work to make up perfectly whipped egg whites and a lot easier on the wrist than the traditional way of using a balloon whisk and beating by hand. If I am making a batch of waffles that uses one egg, I separate the egg and whisk up the egg white separately, then fold it in at the end of making the batter. This makes those very light and crisp waffles in a Belgian waffler, and it's the secret to getting very light GLUTEN-FREE waffles. (The gluten free flour mixes can tend to be heavy.)

The stick itself is well-designed. A button on the unit releases the bottom half for cleaning. This will let you do a thorough job without immersing the electrical (upper) part where the motor resides. So if you have something particularly sticky that needs a soak, you can easily do that with the bottom blade portion. Removing the lower portion also lets you attach whisk or insert into the chopper unit.

A beaker also comes with the Smart Stick, for beating up smoothies or other liquids.

The housing around the blade is metal. I've had units in past that had plastic housing, and eventually, if you drop them or they just get very old, the housing cracks. That won't happen with the metal.

The unit has a low and high speed.

Summary: this is a really good stick blender, with all the right notes. If you like to puree your soups, chop nuts, make pesto, and beat egg whites, this unit will do it all.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is my second Cuisinart immersion blender experience. This model is very similar to the one I tried previously, but, so far, has not shown the serious flaws of the former model. That model had a chopping attachment (mini food processor bowl) which was horrible and totally useless as nothing chopped in it (things just stuck on the blades and spun around and around). The bowl on this one is at least functional (at least for now) and does appear to chop food to some extent. However, it cannot pulse/chop food into anything less than a relative paste and is very uneven. It is best used for small volume foods that you wish to puree (like one can of chickpeas for hummus or a few avocados for guacamole) rather than actual chopping. Also, the lid locking mechanism on it remains annoying to lock in and is troublesome to attach if the tiniest bit of food gets on top of the spindle with the blades (which happens easily because of the small size of the bowl it's nearly impossible to add food to the bowl when the blade is inserted and not get some on top of the spindle). You have to carefully clean it to get a solid lock.

Other than the chopping attachment, this is a perfectly adequate stick blender. I mainly use it for pureeing soups as it works fine for hot liquids which are not suitable for a blender. You can't get as a fine a puree as a blender, but you also don't have to worry about the top blowing off because of steam building up and getting sprayed with hot liquid. The stainless steel design is attractive and easy to clean, but it will also scrape the bottom of any pot you use it in. My stainless steels soup pot is an intricate mass of scratches as a result of using this. I don't think that's going to be an enormous problem in the long run, but if you like pristine cookware (or use nonstick), you'll want to avoid this blender for in the pot blending.

The whisk attachment is fairly lightweight, but works weel for whipping cream and meringue. I've made hard meringue with it several times and find it to be pretty good. The main issue with this blender, and all blenders of this type, is that you have to constantly hold down a button for it to activate. If you're whipping a meringue, it can get pretty tiresome on your thumb as you have to press for so long. I wish there were an option to keep it running without holding in a button, but I realize this is a common safety feature. Also, if you use it long enough or for a hard enough task, the body of the blender with the motor can get pretty hot. When I've used this to mash large numbers of chickpeas for falafel, the body can get so hot that I can't continue to hold it. I'm using it as a workhorse, and most people probably won't use it this way, but it is something to keep in mind.

Overall, I like Braun's immersion blenders better because they run cooler, have a better chopper, and the tip of the blender seems better designed so as not to get bits of food lodged in it while blending, but this one is fine as long as the chopper attachment isn't integral to your cooking needs. If it is, I'd say look elsewhere.

Best Deals for Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I love the Cuisinart products because of their good looks and unquestionable reliability. I have their hand mixer, their ice cream maker, their food processor, and some cookware. I can vouch for how long-lasting their products are. That's certainly an important thing to consider because, yeah, they cost more than the other guys. But it's almost always true that you do get what you pay for.

I didn't have the earlier version of this stick blender, but I'm glad they added the chopper attachment and the whisk attachment before I got it. I had a separate electric chopper that never did a very thorough job with things like nuts and vegetables, so it is in the trash now. With the Cuisinart chopper attachment I can pick the whole thing up and shake it as it is chopping so that everything tumbles around and is more evenly processed. With the whisk, I don't have to haul out my electric hand mixer or use a manual whisk for small jobs. I still use the electric mixer if I'm making a cake or something, but this little whisk attachment is great for omelets or other small jobs.

I still use the stick by itself more often than any other way. I stick it in my pot of cream of asparagus soup and it pulverizes all the vegetable pieces to make a really smooth soup. I stick it into a pot of gravy to whip those flour lumps out and make a perfectly blended sauce. Nothing else not my blender or my electric mixer can atomize all the lumps and chunks and make the creamy smooth result this stick blender can.

The stick can be held in one hand because the buttons are so well located and easy to push with the same hand. Switch between speeds as you blend. The bottom half comes off and can be thrown in the dishwasher when you are done. It's metal and sleek and it's Cuisinart! Worth every penny.

Honest reviews on Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

This video demonstrates the Smart Stick in action.

Pros: Sturdy; great for pureeing soups; whips egg whites and emulsifies dressings; has a mini-bowl attachment for light food processing.

Cons: None, really, other than the fact that most people will have other small appliances in the kitchen that do the work of the attachments.

This would be a fantastic shower/wedding gift. If you make a lot of soups and sauces, an immersion blender is a must, and you might as well have the attachments to go with it.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is my second Cuisinart Immersion blender. I loved my first one and used it alot to make creamed soups (especially potatoe!) My first one did not come with the attachments that this one had and I was excited to try them out!

I wish this one had more than just a high/low power setting. (My last one had a 1 10 option) The immersion blender worked perfectly to make my famous (by my family standards) potato soup, it was comfortable to hold and operate.

The chopper chopped my onions well (you have to make sure your pieces aren't too big when you put them in and also that you are not overfilling the chamber)

I used the whisk just to mix my eggs for scrambled eggs so that I could try it out, and it did that job very well. I will be looking forward to using it for more "advanced" needs in the future.

All in all I like this immersion blender, the only real negative is that I wish it had more than 2 speed settings.

Discount Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Coffeemaker

Hamilton Beach 49316 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

This terrific bottom-of-the line coffee maker works like a champ. Its cone-shaped filter provides a rich full brew even without a "slow drip" option. Unless a flat-filter is exquisitely well sprayed and the water disperser stays clean and unclogged over time, the cone filters beat the flat-bottomed for taste and this is the only cheap coffee maker that has the cone that I could find.

Unlike many carafes, including expensive ones, the Hamilton-Beach carafe has a well shaped top so that coffee pours smoothly and quickly yet without spilling over the sides. People have complained that it lacks an automatic shut-off switch but one can either remember to shut it off manually or in a worse case scenario, scrub the carafe clean and remember to shut it off the next time. This works as well as my high-end Krups, and unlike the Krups may be poured quickly without spilling.

My wife and I have had this coffee maker for a little over three weeks and we use it every morning. We have not had any problems with it at all so far. It keeps the coffee very hot, and is actually pretty quiet while it's brewing the coffee. We love this coffee maker.

It is getting very difficult to find a basic coffee maker these days. Basic meaning.... not all the now common bells and whistles on it like clocks, timers, iPod connection, radios, auto grinders, programmable this programmable that, etc... I just want a coffee maker to be just a "coffee maker". Simple. This Hamilton Beach coffee maker is just that. By the way..... "cone" style filters are much better than the "basket" type because with the "cone" style, the coffee is more condensed, concentrated and therefore more flavorful using less coffee than with a "basket" type.

In this day and age with commonplace becoming the expensive instant gratification brewing systems such as the Keurig, forget it. A complete waste of money. Just because it's new does not mean it's a good idea. Get one of these traditional type Hamilton Beach "cone" style coffee makers before the "basic" concept disappears forever. Much less $$ to use and the coffee taste's better anyway!

Best Deals for Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Coffeemaker

All I look for in a coffeemaker is an on/off switch and a flavorful cup of hot coffee. It used to be easy finding inexpensive ones meeting that critera, but not so much anymore. The big box stores stock cheap Mr. Coffee models, and we've bought a few over the years. They work well, but Mr. Coffee carafes spill, and never show any sign of improvement. I decided to look elsewhere before buying another.

Unfortunately WalMart sells a $9 Rival 12 cup coffeemaker. It's a cheapskate's nightmare. One use in our kitchen was enough to search anew for a replacement--it has a poorly made filter basket, makes tepid coffee and spills. Out it went.

After reading the good reviews for the Hamilton Beach 12-cup coffeemaker, I decided to order one online as I can't find it locally. This cheapskate's happy again. It makes a great tasting cup of hot coffee and pours without spilling, all for under $20. My faith in an inexpensive coffeemaker is restored.

12-26-12 UPDATE: I notice a few poor reviews. It's been nine months since I purchased this coffee pot. It still makes hot, good coffee, doesn't spill or leak. Even if it broke tomorrow, I think I got my $20 worth, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Honest reviews on Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Coffeemaker

Great, inexpensive coffee maker. Manual, no auto off, just a big on/off button. But it does pause midway while you pour yourself a coffee. Uses #4 cone filters. Cone filters are preferred over basket ones as it concentrates the coffee more. Makes good coffee. What more is there to say?

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Coffeemaker

A very good basic coffee maker. I only have two issues.

1. Lack of auto shut off (I realized this before purchase but this could improve the product)

2. The hot plate is too hot and burns the coffee very quickly. It brews a great cup but if it sits for more than ten minutes it starts to taste burnt.

Tried the same prime rib eye from Costco at two different friends houses. Once was grilled on an outdoor grill, and once on a pan. Both tasted bad and looked bad. I decided to try the same steak myself so I went out and got this pan. Unbelievable pan. Followed the instruction to heat up the pan by letting it sit on medium heat for few minutes, then laid down the steak. The wonderful sound of sizzling started to pop. After 5 minutes, I turned the steak. OMG!! Beautiful grill mark, and the steak looked unbelievably tasty. I grilled the steak for about 20 minutes. 5 minutes on each side, then 2 minutes each side twice. Sat it for another two minutes. It was a perfect medium well, and it was my first time grilling!! Never realized the prime rib eye from Costco can taste this good.

The couple down side for this pan is the weight and cleaning. It must weigh at least 15 lb. Cleaning is quite a hassle, but it helps if soak in water.

Over all, I am very satisfy with the pan.

Updated 5/21/2013

After owning this pan for more than a month, I learned few more things about iron cast pans. Apparently, it's not wise to soak the pan in water so I wash it in running warm water and use a scrub to wash it after it's cooled now. The pan does seem to require seasoning after use. I noticed few rust spot after first few uses without proper caring. Grilling with this pan is fun, but the caring part is not so fun.

I grew up on non-stick pans...teflon that is...and I even remember them little black flakes mixed in with my scrambled eggs. I simply ate it back then along with my siblings cuz none of us knew any better. We are now much better informed and having my own kids I'm very careful with knowing how food gets to our table and also how it gets prepared. I own everything from Lodge cast iron pots, pans and ovens to Calphalon, Cuisinart and other semi-high level cookware but as of late was browsing the market to see if any safer non-stick pans were around. That's when I discovered these Safepans. At first skeptical, I decided to give the US FDA approval the benefit of the doubt. I have now used these pans daily for the past 2 months and am pleasantly surprised. The non-stick works great like it should but it's the peace of mind in knowing that there are no toxic fumes & substance getting into the food and into my children that make these pans all worthwhile. I rarely take out my cast iron cookware these days and even my Calphalon gets a break unless I have company over and I run out of pans. If there is one shortcoming it's the design of the handles. They feel a little cheap but the rest of the pan is solid and performs like it should. Highly recommeded for the health conscious and children.

First impression is that the pans seem sturdy enough and come with info about how to use them to cook and how to season and re-season them, which is a simple process.

(And, for people looking for this info, the company is based in Australia and the pans are made in Korea.)

Originally I received a 12" frypan rather than the advertised 11.2" frypan, and the lid did not fit with the pan, which frustrated me as I'd planned to use 11.2" frypan and lid as a saute pan. I sent an e-mail through Amazon.com and CostBuy (seller) contacted me right away and explained that I accidentally received the 12" pan that SafePan was going to start selling in a few months (the error was on SafePan's end in boxing the set, not the seller's end). They sent me a replacement 11.2" pan that fits with the lid. {I deleted original entry so people are not confused by the old info.}

Edit 4/19/10: I have had the pans for a week and seasoned them as instructed (very easy, no problems). I have used the small frypan 3x to make scrambled eggs. As far as non-stick, it is AWESOME!! The instructions do recommend using oil with the pans every time, but not a non-stick oil spray (i.e. Pam). Nothing has stuck to the pan and eggs have scrambled fantastically. However, the top edge is already chipping off the small frypan!! I have contacted the seller. (FYI, the pan has sat in the drying rack and not been stacked with other pans, and I have only used silicone or plastic utensils in the pan, so I don't know why it's already chipping).

Edit 5/18/10: After owning this product for over a month and going through all the rigamarole to get the correct product and replacement from the company (I did receive a replacement 8" pan for the one that was chipping), I've ended up lowering my rating from 4 to 2. The main reason for this is that the coating is coming off the pans. AGAIN. This time it's the large frypan pan that's chipping, and it's been used about 4x since we got the new/correct size. I have been super careful with these pans and educated my husband about them as well. We are careful to place towels between each pan when we put them away and we don't use metal utensils, yet the pan is chipping already (I actually think it's chipping where the lid hits the inside of the pan). To spend over $100 on a 3-pan set and have it (2 pans, actually) chip within the first few weeks is frustrating and I'm already mentally "saving" for having to soon buy another set of pans. I did a ton of research to find a safe, non-PTFE/PFOA pan set, and am not looking forward to doing that again so soon. We'll use these pans until the chipping becomes bad enough that we must replace them, but overall I am extremely disappointed. I love the functionality of the pans, they are great at non-stick and we've had absolutely no burning or problems cooking, but the fact that they are not long-lasting causes me to not recommend these to anyone. I feel like I have to "walk on eggshells" when using these pans so as to not cause chipping, which isn't really functional when using every day to cook meals for my family.

Best Deals for SafePan 4 Piece Eco-Nonstick Cookware Set

I also got these on Woot. I have been using them for 2 weeks daily and am very impressed. Nothing will stick to these including my favorite snack, fried cheese! Cooking with these gets some getting used to and I wish there was an in between size pan since the 11.5 is a little too big for an omelette and the 8 is just a tad too small. Making a classic French omelette was tricky the 1st time around as the egg does not stick so the vigorous pan movement that i have trained to use with previous pans resulted with egg all over the stove top, once I reduced the 'vigor' the second omelette turned out perfect in less then 30 seconds. I supposed you could even reduce the amount of butter used to make the omelette, but why would you want to do that ;)

Honest reviews on SafePan 4 Piece Eco-Nonstick Cookware Set

I understand everyone's concern regarding toxic emissions but would you call it a quality product when the non-scratchable surface shows chipping signs after one use?

I would not, so think twice before you buy the SafePan brand.

I got this from WOOT hot deal of the day for like $65?

I hopped on amazon real quick, checked out the price of it.. it's pretty pricey and noticed it was a great deal so I jumped on it without expectations..

oh. my. god.

best. pans. ever!

I'm not going to repeat what everyone else has said, nothing sticks to it, no toxic fumes, no teflon flakes, etc etc..

the best thing about these pans?!

they are LIGHTWEIGHT.. they hold and retain heat amazingly which leads to a great cooking experience and unbelievably good tasting food but it doesn't have the heavyweight of cast iron or your cast-iron enamel pans, etc..

seriously, best pans ever and the only thing I use now :) the Wok, the omellete pan and the fry pan covers anything you'd want to make really :)

update: 02-21-09, knocked it down from 5* to 4* simply because it is not oven safe :( that's the only drawback thus far.. I did email safepan and they confirmed that it is not oven safe, they do have upcoming models which will be but these are not. :) otherwise.. best. pans. ever!

Amazing is the only word I can think of for this cookware.

I am sick of buying nonstick cookware and having all the teflon chip off into my food after the first year. I thought that I would have to sacrafice a non stick surface for a safe solution to not eating teflon but that turned out to not be the case.

This stainless is more nonstick than any teflon I have ever used!

The box says "stainless surface does not react to food." I thought "what kind of nonsense is that?" But it's so true that it is scary! Even when my food burns it still slides around on the top. A litte butter on the bottom with a low flame and my eggs were practically sliding out of the frying pan with one nudge of the handle. Chicken slides around like ice cubes on a hot surface.

I don't know how it does it but this set is better than any cookware I have ever used!

I thought I was crazy for spending $400 on a cookware set but I should have spent the money no this years ago. I probably have wasted more than that amount of money from just replacing cheap teflon sets. Buy this set! You wont be sorry!

I usually use high quality pots and pans, some of which are very expensive. However, I bought this little guy because there are times that all I need is something this size. I got it mostly for one-egg omelettes but I can also see using it for a quick sauce or to warm up a small side dish.

The quality is about what I expected for the price and as little as I'll probably use it I'm sure that it will last for quite a while. I would rate it 4.5 stars but since we don't have half stars on Amazon I will give it 4. I hope that you enjoy my quick little video.

Love this little T-Fal baby! I make bagel or bun sized eggs without folding endlessly to make the ingredients fit on the bun. Perfect for a side of sautéed mushrooms, onions or anything you want to do on a small scale. It fits a perfect serving size for one person (or two eating light). I pushed the envelope and put two large eggs in it and it performed OK, however cooks better with one egg if you're putting extras in the pan with it. One swipe of a paper towel and it's ready for the next mini cooking task. This little thing has made my life so much easier because I'm not a confessed hand pan washer except for the ones I HAVE TO this one I do because it's so easy. No more big pans sitting in the sink and no more lazy lunches! I work at home and can fry up tofu for a salad, eggs for my hubby, onions for burgers, garlic for sauces . . . sometimes we just don't need a big pan to do those big flavor items! I'm ordering three more for gifts after using mine every day for a month. Love the non-stick too.

I like this one egg wonder pan very much. It's easy to clean and perfect for just the one egg. However, be aware that it measures 4/34 inches across the TOP and so the bottom is even smaller. I blieve the ad could have been a little more clearer about whether the measurement was across the top or the bottom, as many pans are measured across the bottom. Therefore, I was slightly disappointed, but just slightly. All in all, I like it.

This was not a need but a want. I am a gadget freak and I also like good quality kitchen appliances.

Works very well...to make MY Egg M?Muffins. I wish it had a lid..but it does not and so I use a small plate to cover.

T-Fal...are you listening....how about a simple cover...with a simple handle... thanks :) This would give it 5 stars.

This little gem is perfect for the one egg you want for a quick sandwich or light breakfast. It heats evenly and quickly, and best if you use a medium-heat setting on your stove. It will clean up faster using only cooking spray instead of butter or oil. Bon Apetit!

update 1/29/09

I wish I could change the rating to a 4+. I was sceptical initially at not using non stick but this set has been really good to me for the last 6 months. I have been using it regulary and while a few scratches inside are inevitable, I have seen no dents and all the pots are in good shape. No burning, scorching the base either. In fact, I bought a second set as a gift to friend who also happens to love it! I am glad I got this set!

I am trying to be fair here, for a 12pc set under $40, it's not a bad deal! The shapes and sizes are varied which is convenient and they all have lids!

The quality is a different story, they're not very thick and have a tendency to dent & scratch easily and the base for all of them is not solid, it's encapsulated (and this is mentioned under product information). It works well under low to medium heat on the stove and I have used it for simmering soups, stews and other "wet" dishes. It works for stir fry and other dry dishes and if you are frequently stirring so you don't burn the base!

If you are used to non stick cookware(as I am)this takes a little longer to clean and a little soaking in warm soapy water helps! They do well in the dishwasher.

It just needs a little getting used to!

These are great! You do need to cook at a medium heat, rather than high, but once you get used to that, they are great! I LOVE THEM!

Honest reviews on Wyndham House 12 Piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set

I've had this set of pots and pans for around 8 months now and I am not happy with them at all. At first they look really nice but they are crap. I use them everyday and they stick and stain horribly. The handles are very cheap plastic and the paint is chipping off of them. One of the handles broke completely off. The only things I like about this set are the variety of sizes of pots and the steam holes in all the lids. I would NEVER recommend these pots and pans to anyone except my worst enemy. Just spend a little extra money and get a good quality set such as Calphalon or Kitchen Aid that will last a long time. You get what you pay for and I will be replacing these very soon.

I cook for a livin' and I have many honing steels, some at 14" for my big knives and this one for my 8" and under knives. I got this one in an upscale set of 4 starz and I do love it. As previously reviewed, it's not for sharpening but used to maintain a sharp edge. If you use this PROPERLY every time you use a new knife then the factory edge will last for months if not years under normal usage.

If you are collecting the 4 star line then this is a must, it is one of the most attractive steels made, the Rockwell rating is harder than any factory production blade made, the grooving is crisp and it is a bargain compared to other brands. A must replacement for a lesser steel in most 4 star sets.

It would be worth your time and money to buy the knife care video and learn how to use this well...an investment for your future enjoyment of Henckels 4 star knives.

We hand out 5 mojo*z for this steel Magnolia!!!

As other reviewers have mentioned, this does not actually sharpen your knives in the sense that it won't put an angle on your blade that isn't already there. However, what this is great for is keeping your set of kitchen knives in good (and safe) condition.

Note to novices: make sure to ask a pro or an experienced cook how to use a steel. If you hold the knife at the wrong angle, you may actually be reversing the effect the steel is supposed to have realigning the blade to its sharpest position.

Note 2: a lot of blades these days are made with the higher-end cobalt alloy steel that is significantly harder than regular stainless. All this really means is that if you have a good knife, you technically won't have to use this every time you slice and dice, but it's still a good idea to keep the knife in the best condition possible.

I purchased this instrument for a gormet chef who stated that this is the best tool for the honing of knives. Though I'm not a chef, if you ate the food this guy cooks, like I have, you would place your trust in his words. This is a great gift to give.

Honest reviews on J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 10-Inch Honing Steel

Most of us know the importance of sharp knives for proper food preparation and gracious serving. Of course, I had to learn the hard way by mashing a tomato instead of chopping it, by "sawing" a roast rather than slicing it, and by cutting and pulling off a plump roast turkey leg rather than carving it. Those are just a few of the reasons I'm such a fan of my Henckels Sharpening Steel. After trying both a stone and steel, the steel is my favorite for ease of use and appearance. This steel is not only utilitarian but handsome with a ribbed handle that's easy to hold and silvertone handle guard and hanging ring. First off, a good way to test whether or not your knives are sharp is to hold a piece of paper by the top corner and then attempt to "slice" it. If knives won't do this head for the steel! You'll be amazed sometimes it takes only a few strokes on the steel to make your knife sharp, sharper, then sharpest. Remember to place the metal end of the steel on a sturdy surface, such as a butcher block table or cutting board then position the base of the blade on the steel and begin. This Henckels sharpening steel is certainly a cut above any other. Gail Cooke

If you bought good knives, like the Henckels Four Star series, keep them good by regularly honing the edge with a Henckels steel. A few swipes against my chef's knife keeps the edge keen and ready to cut. I struggled for years with cheap knives only to find that a good sharp knife is a blessing to a cook. So keep it sharp with a good steel.

when my hubby was in rehab for over a month the food was something to be desired so I made him dinners, lunches and took them in these microwave dishes, the nurses put his food in their refrigator & I would heat it up in their microwave, it worked wonderful and since we are home I use it to warm left over food in...works just like a steamer....

Pack your lunch in it ahead of time. Stackable in fridge with leftovers ready to microwave. Clever liner to keep food from soaking in bottom of tray liquids.

Honest reviews on Sistema Rectangular Microwave Plate, Red

We love these Sistema products. They can be used in both the freezer and the microwave. The little pop-up vent on the top keeps whatever you are microwaving from exploding all over. They are dishwasher safe, however.....I wash them in the top rack and do not use the d/w heating element to dry them. The tops clip on easily and these dishes do not leak.
