I was happy to find the pot watcher since I had not been able to find one in the stores. I wanted to buy one for a daughter in law who frequently boils food over on her countertop stove. The ones I have had have been glass and I managed to consistantly break them. The Stainless steel works fine but they would be even better if reversable like the glass ones are. If you accidently tip this one upside down when stirring the pot, it does not work.

These make an excellent "stocking stuffer" for anyone who cooks.

Thank you!

We've been using glass pot watchers in our tea kettle for a few years. But, being glass, they tended to crack and break over time. We decided one of stainless steel would last forever as there is no chance of breaking. This one costs about the same as the glass versions and works extremely well. It doesn't make as much noise as its glass counterparts, but that's not a problem. We're happy!

I am impressed by the simplicity and creativity of this device. It warns by clanking against the bottom of a pot when bubbles start to form. Basically, it amplifies bubbles. The pot watcher starts to make sound as soon as small bubbles start to form. Depending on the size of the pot, the warning may come too soon long before the contents actually start to boil. In my situation, I was looking for about ten-second warning but it gives about forty five second warning. That said, this device is good to have around for times when you need to walk away and devote your attention to something else.

Honest reviews on Stainless Steel Pot Watcher

Keeps my pots from boiling over every time. The only problem is trying to get it out of the pot/food. The pot watcher obviously gets hots, so you have to use some sort of utensil to remove it from the pot, which can get messy if you're not transferring the food to a colander or another dish.

I bought this on a whim to meet Amazon's free shipping requirement but I'm definitely glad I picked it up! This is my first pot watcher and, after using it, I can't believe these things aren't more popular.

This is a pretty simple product: when hot water boils, the convection currents catch the grooves and make the disc rattle against the bottom of the pot. The disc itself is fairly thick and hasn't shown any signs of rusting.

This wasn't all that loud in a non-stick pot but it's pretty audible in my stainless steel pots. I suspect the texture of the non-stick coating was muffling it. I always use it now when I'm boiling eggs in the morning and it makes it much easier to turn the burner down when the water reaches a steady boil. I'm using old Revereware pots with solid steel lids so it definitely beats lifting the lid up occasionally to see if the water has started to boil. It also seems like this disc would be useful in a teakettle without a built-in whistle but I don't personally have a kettle to test this in.
