I cannot believe some people wrote negative reviews because they couldn't figure out how to simply put the cover on. Oh my, it's the easiest, quickset cover to attach of all the processors I've owned or used. I won't even bother to explain the process because there isn't any.

The KitchenAide processor is well built and nicely designed. The slicing blade dials to create the thickness of the cut... how cool is that? And, there are two shredding sizes perfect! If you want to emulsify something (mayo) by adding a liquid slowly, there is a convenient tiny hole in the bottom of the 'food pusher'. The stainless blade quality and heft is second to none. If you own a KitchenAide stand mixer, you know what I'm talking about it's the gold standard for consumer mixers. This processor is built just as well.

The panel buttons (off/low/high/pulse) are flush with the unit so there is no place for food or junk to get stuck it's an easy wipe to clean thoroughly.

You will NOT be dissappointed in this unit. Please totally disregard the negative reviews unless you cannot screw a cover on a jar.

The 7 cup size is perfect for a family of four. Get the 9 or 13 if you do alot of processing or canning.

Oh, the 7 and 9 cup units (bases/motor) are identical except for the bowl size. Both bowls fit interchangeably so just order the bigger bowl/blades and you'll have one processor that can handle smaller and larger jobs.

I just wanted to add a positive review here agreeing with the others that the processor works perfectly once you get the lid on properly. It can be twisted on at several spots, but you have to line up the part that protrudes slightly from the rim/lip with the handle. As a left-handed person, I was lining it up so that the handle was on the left, and it would not start. Once I lined it up as a "righty" everything worked just fine.

A lot of reviews report this unit as dead out of the box, and I had the same experience myself. The problem turns out to be that the lid can latch securely in either of two positions, but only one of these engages the safety interlock that prevents the machine from running with no lid. The feed tube must be at the FRONT of the unit with the lid latched. If the tube ends up off to the side, you will get the same satisfying "click" as the lid latches into place (the wrong place), but the unit won't run.

There is nothing about this in the instruction manual; I found this information at the Bed Bath & Beyond web site.

Once running, I found the performance satisfactory. This is my first food processor so I have no basis for comparison; it seems okay so far. I gave it a one star rating because the combined negligence of the designers and manual writers nearly cost me a return trip to the store to return a seemingly defective unit.

I would bet that the 2 reviewers that gave this a low rating ran into the same problem that I did which was paying attention to how the lid goes on. Yes, it does matter, and if it is not on correctly, it will not turn on. The base and lid both have to be on in a specific orientation. Works great.

I think the instructions need to be changed for attaching the lid.

Align the lid so that the tube is towards the front and slightly off-center to the left. Then rotate to the right to click into place. This actually activates a switch in the handle of the bowl that feeds down to the base unit. If this switch is not activated properly (ie. the lid is not on properly), it will seem like your unit is completely dead.

Nice unit, solid build. I'm looking forward to lots of use.
