However, they have two major drawbacks. One, the short handle means that you can't pick up the splatter guard with one hand and stir your food with the other hand. I do this all the time when using my metal splatter guard. In addition, you can't see through this splatter guard, which means I have no idea what my food is doing until I remove the splatter guard.
The larger splatter guard might also be an effective replacement for an aluminum foil cover when cooking casseroles in the oven.
So for stove top use, I would not recommend this splatter guard. The smaller one, however, will get lots of use in our microwave.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The name is a little misleading if, by "splatter guards" you are picturing the traditional metal, window-screen-like circular cover traditionally used to reduce splattering around your frying pan. Those metal screen disks let steam escape and prevent moisture from building up under it. On the downside, they are only somewhat effective (as most of the grease splatters just fly right through the mesh) and the screen tends to warp and come apart at the edges when washing.
These new silicone "screens" are an entirely different in design, material, and function. The material is a sturdy and firm but flexible silicone with small vents spaced at approximately one-inch intervals over most of the surface and a little closer towards the center. This design doesn't allow as much steam to escape through it with the result that moisture gets trapped on the underside and that moisture drips back down onto the food and oil creating additional splattering and preventing or slowing down crisping. Their performance did tie with that of the metal screens when frying bacon because those bacon `explosions' are better contained by these screens than by the metal screens, it just takes a little longer to crisp. For purposes of high-temperature frying, however, I think I will stick to the traditional, low tech, and cheap metal splatter screen or live with the splattering.
That is not to say that these so-called splatter screens haven't justified their place in my kitchen in other ways. They are perfect for semi-covering a pan when you want evaporation (as when reducing the liquid in a recipe.) You no longer have to put the lid on a little sideways and have drips down the sides of your pan onto the cook top or burner. They can be used in the microwave or in the oven to warm food or even to bake cookies, rolls, or my grandson's favorite pita bread pizzas. Those little holes help with crispness just fine in the oven and the baking time remains the same as in a metal pan but clean up is so much easier! They can be used for rinsing fruits, vegetables, and poultry and can be washed in the dishwasher. I've even used them as trivets with no ill effects.
The longer I have them, the more things I find to use them for. They don't take up a lot of space; the set has two sizes (10" & 12"), so just about every size pan is covered; they are non-stick and oven resistant up to 450 degrees; they can be used in the microwave as covers (where their pattern of venting seems to be optimal); they are dishwasher safe (and come out very clean even in light cycles). The manufacturer says they can go into the freezer as well (although why you would want to use them there has escaped me so far). Although they weren't what I expected, they are tough and versatile kitchen performers, I'm very glad I got them, and I highly recommend them. (And you can, in a pinch, use them as splatter screens as well).

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I was excited to get this product to try, but I have to admit that I have yet to find the perfect "splatter guard" for my cooking needs. The Kuhn Rikon Silicone Splatter Guard is made very well, as most of their products are. There are two pieces included in this set to fit different sized pots and pans, 10 inch and 12 inch diameters. The silicone is perforated so that steam can escape or so that you can strain foods through it.
My experience has been that there aren't enough holes to adequately let enough steam escape so that it builds up and drops back into the skillet or pan, making more spattering and delaying browning or crisping. For straining, again there aren't enough holes for most things and it's difficult to hold on to a hot pan. But, all is not lost because you can also use them as baking sheets in the oven or microwave, or as loose fitting lids on the stove top for some needs.
So far, I've not used them enough to justify their cost and use of space (though this isn't a lot) in my kitchen. If I need pizza pans, I have them. If I need cookie sheets, I use them as they are more appropriate for the batch size I normally make. What I really needed was a splatter guard and this products performance falls short in that respect.
UpdateI've found that these may retain odors significantly. I used the large one while browning some spicy "blackened" salmon and could not get the odor removed. I hand washed it with soapy water numerous times and finally ran it through the dishwasher but the odor remained. Eventually, it aired out after a week or so, FWIW.
Honest reviews on Kuhn Rikon Silicone Splatter Guard, 1 Each, 10-Inch/12-Inch, Set of
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These splatter guards are surprisingly well made. They have a nice weight to them and feel sturdy in your hands with black silicone covered metal handles and metal rim. There are tiny holes so air can escape. The main surface is mostly smooth with a swirly design. The surface is tight and sounds like a drum if you tap your finger on it.
This works well as a splatter guard and the extra weight helps it stay put on your pots and pans while cooking.
Microwave safe: Yes! Even though it has metal in it, the silicone covering makes it safe and there is no sparking or fire hazard.
Dishwasher safe: Yes! Also easier to hand wash than a regular metal mesh splatter guard.
Oven safe: Yes, up to 450 degrees F.
Non stick: Yes! You can even use this as a baking sheet for pizza or cookies if you need to.
Any Negatives? You can't see the food you are cooking through the small holes like you could with a wire mesh so you need to lift the cover off to check. Since the handles are on the side, it's not as convenient to constantly check your food as a splatter guard with one long handle.
But, the shorter handle makes it more versatile so it fits in your microwave oven or baking oven.

I purchased one of these that fits my 11" wok...it works great! It lets out the steam and doesn't spatter my stovetop.
It is easier to clean than the metal screen types and works better too.
It has a firm rim, so it's not floppy. Mine doesn't have the nice handles that are on these, so I plan to buy these for my frying pans.
