The Paderno Grand Gourmet series of pots is without a doubt one of the best available, far out shining All Clad and Calphalon. I wish that Cooks Illustrated would include them in their reviews. They have thick bottoms, and the thickness varies by pot diameter. Of special note is the top rim, which are straight edged, like professional cooks prefer, and are double thickness at the edge, giving the pot extra strength. I have owned these pots for a decade and can attest to the fact that they are indestructible. Even with accidents and occasional misuse, they continue unharmed. Paderno Grand Gourmet is one of the few manufacturers that make commercial sized pots (sitram does too) and the wide range of sizes is useful for the home cook that often has a large number of guests at their table. Also, these pots are perfect for use in the oven. I wish the lids came with the pots, but it is no inconvenience to buy them separately on amazon.com --just buy the diameter that matches the diameter of your pot. All that said, I have occasionally gotten a damaged pot when buying through amazon, but never when purchasing elsewhere. I think that the packers at amazon occasionally drop items, and the two damaged pots that I have received had the metal disk on the bottom nicked on an edge --of course the pot remained fully functional, but it shouldn't have been that way. Highly recommended!
