I will admit freely that 40 oz didn't mean much to my brain. It's not a big serving bowl like for 6-8 people. It is, however, perfect for my family of 4. I got scarlet because mosts vegetables I cook look good in it (green beans, corn, potatoes). I have a variety of Fiesta Ware and this is a good addition. It's different and I love it.

Bought this as a gift and my friends really liked it. It is smaller than I thought, 40 oz is not big, but it looks nice and more importantly my friends liked it.
