After doing some research, this brand name came up as a recommendation and after seeing this discounted price I had to go for it.

What I like about it:

Aluminum core base for even heat distribution.

Made in Spain, not China

Brushed stainless steel interior, no toxic non-stick coatings

Everything feels very sturdy and well-made

2 pressure settings, multiple safety release valves.

In fact I liked it so much after using it the first time, I'm buying a 2nd one for multiple course cooking.

Ok, first I bought a slow cooker because everyone kept telling me how easy they were, you just start it, go to work, by the time you come home it's done. Well, I don't like to leave things cooking when no one is home, plus the times on the weekends I did cook using the slow cooker the food all came out sort of alike no matter what ingredients I used--kind of the same mushy casseroly ending. Not exactly what I wanted. Then I read an article about pressure cookers, I'd never even seen one but these sounded like what I needed--practically instant food. The article recommended a Megafesa and it said to get at least a 6 quart one since you always had to leave 1/4-1/3 empty for the steam. So I got the 6.5 quart one. And loved it. For a while I was cooking something in it every weekend. Love making stock, the canned stuff all have other things added when I just want plain, pure chicken stock or beef stock or whatever. I like the control of knowing exactly what went into my food too. And I can cook artichokes in 20 mins! I can make pulled pork in an hour. I can toss frozen chicken parts straight from the freezer into the pot, cover with some water and spices and 45 mins. later I've got food! there are some things I don't like cooking in the p.c.--and it's probably just me; I like rice cooked the old fashion way (and the p.c. doesn't save you much time with rice anyway). I like making dried legumes/pulse the old way too so I have ore control over when they are just done enough but not too mushy. I don't use the p.c. to make pasta--but I have used the pot to make pasta (without the lid on) since it's such a nice size pot (6 quarts). All the valves work like a charm, exhaust excess steam like it's supposed to, I can run the hot pot under the cold water if I need to open it mid-cooking to add things that don't need to be cooked quite so long. The only time I have problems is when I don't check the way the rubber gasket is sitting so the lid doesn't have a good seal (so the pressure can't build properly)--my fault though, when I'm more careful, it works great. My one and only "drawback" is I cannot find replacement rubber gaskets anywhere. They may sell them in Spain but I haven't been back there in 10 years and don't really plan on going there just to look for gaskets; if I ever do take a holiday there though, I'll look around. I've had my pot for 5+ years andn although the gasket is discolored now, it's not cracking or showing signs of wear yet. I just worry about in years to come because I'd hate to have to replace this pot simply because I can't find a gasket for it. The pot itself is excellent, well designed, beautiful, heavy. Now I'm thinking about getting this smaller Megafesa; the 6 qt. is great but I always end up making so much in it I'm dumping (ok, into compost) too much food since we can't eat it all and the freezer is full.

After several uses, the buttons started sticking and are at times difficult to set. Spring lock also sticks sometime, impacting the rubber seal, Overall works well but can be frustrating,

I received the Magefesa 4.2 quart pressure cooker. The instruction book was in Spanish. I did not understand it. I reviewed several YouTube video on pressure cooker. One reviewer gave the Magefesa pressure cooker tTa very high review. This is jiggle-top pressure cooker that I use on a gas stove. The Magefesa pressure cooker did the job of cooking my Japanese brown rice with Shiitake mushroom, carrots, sardines, kombu kelp, hijiki, onions, soy sauce, and soda noodle sauce. I placed brown rice in a pyrex glass blow to avoid rice sticking to the bottom of pressure cooker based upon Lorna J. Sass. Lorna J. Sass's Great Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure book has several good cooking suggestions. YouTube video has several good pressure cooker recipes.
