Product is well made. Cost was right. Many web sites about Dutch oven cooking. Many (if not all) will tell you how to determine your baking temperature. This method is very doubtful. Instead drill an appropriate hole in pot (beneath an handle if possible. this handle will protect the thermometer) and mount a BBQ thermometer. Pick a thermometer with the shortest probe. It will thus not impede placing baking dishes into pot. Now baking is a pleasure because it is no longer a haphazard affair. This works extremely well. Now all baking is done with joy and great success.

I like to consider myself somewhat of a well outfitted person in regards to survival skills or prepping for what may be. I also like to actually use what I have and I do use this item. Tried washing and seasoning it. Seems like there is some gray coating that needs to be removed beforehand, as another person has stated. Not sure what it is, but I buy cast iron to avoid unknown chemicals. Anyway, the seasoning didn't stick well, and the whole thing really needs to be sanded down. It's like there are metal shavings imbedded all over it, so without sanding they'll be in your food, and ripping up whatever you use to clean or wipe it down with. Maybe after a couple hours of sanding and then seasoning it, this will be a good enough product. The lid isn't tight either, but isn't a deal breaker on its own.
