I bought this steamer to interface with my Mauviel M'Cook 5210.21 3.7 Quart Saucepan with Lid, Cast Stainless Steel Handle. Though sold separately, they are clearly built to go together. The steamer fits perfectly into the saucepan. The seal is air-tight and is the result of precision engineering on the part of Mauviel.
Other than the quality and construction, this is a great tool for steaming vegetables on your stove. You simply add some water to the saucepan and then boil it with the steamer insert on top. The lid from the saucepan fits beautifully on the steamer (again, as if they were built for each other).
Unlike an All-Clad steamer set that I bought and returned, the quality of this steamer insert is equal to the actual Mauviel pots and pans that go with it. It is made in France, side-by-side with the other pieces. For some reason All-Clad feels compelled to lower the quality of their nice pots with cheap made-in-China steamer inserts. I'm very happy I returned the All-Clad and bought this.
