I selected this model because it listed 1100 watt power usage and it is lower than other models yet reviews say it is quick heating, and it certainly is. The power cord is substantially heavy, the shut off when water reaches a full rolling boil works well with an audible click and the blue charming glow light for the water goes off when the pot automatically shuts down. I use pot this to heat water for French Press coffee making and the all glass contact with water is completely clean. You can click or lift the top up if you don't want the mesh filter to touch the water when filling or pouring if you are a real purist. The pot has no smells on first use or thereafter. It deserves the 5 stars more so than much more expensive pots.

Based on other reviews for this Ovente Glass Kettle I was under the impression, before I ordered it, that the entire interior was only glass (no plastic BPA's, no silicone rings, & no stainless to contaminate or change the taste of the water); however, that is not the case. I called Ovente & they informed me "If it was pure glass it would break". What is concealed is 'The heating element'; it is concealed under the stainless steel that you can see in the bottom. Customer service was very nice. They did say that the silicone ring is not exposed, they had a previous caller request information about this and they had checked with their factory, "the silicone does not come in contact with the water". I can't confirm or deny that the silicone is exposed due to the way the Kettle is designed but I do Not get that "plastic taste" that I had w/ my Capresso (my Capresso eventually got rusty around the silicone seal & the lid broke off). Customer service also suggested opening the plastic lid on the Ovente before pouring to avoid contact with the plastic lid...(BPA's). After extensive research...I guess you just can't have an all glass electric kettle. If it heats up too fast it would break the glass. When I am not in a hurry and want that pure clean taste...I guess I have to go back to using my inexpensive ($9.99) stove top all glass "Whistling Kettle" brand. According to the instructions, I start it on low-med heat before moving it to med-high and wait for it to boil so it doesn't break... At least it has a whistle, since i am too inpatient to stand there waiting for it to boil... I checked out the Bella electric ceramic pot too, but it has a metal heating element inside & is sooo big & heavy and you can't see or tell when the water is boiling. So in summary, I think the Ovente Kettle is as close as you can get to boiling water in a stainless pan, but much more quickly, and w/ auto shut off (so no burnt pans if you walk away...) The Ovente is not a bad look & there are these nice modern blue lights that come on when the water is boiling.

I use this every morning for French press coffee. It heats up fairly quickly, has a pretty blue light to show it is on, is easy to clean, has a concealed heating element and the water does not come in contact with plastic while heating. Overall, well worth the money.

Honest reviews on Ovente KG83B Glass Electric Kettle, 1.5-Liter, Black

Decent kettle, has been working fine for a few months now. It's slower to boil than I expected, given the large-looking heating surface: testing just over the minimum amount (0.5L) of cold water took 3min 45sec to boil.

Flip-up top is handy.

A little bit of the red trim has started to raise off, probably due to heat expansion with the different materials. It's just cosmetic, but seems a silly design.

I bought this because it is glass. The metal plate in the bottom is not covered with glass & it does get a little discolored but the filter you pour the water through stops the scaling from getting into your cup. I have tried several of these over the years & this is my favorite so far. I didn't think I'd like how it doesn't have a setting to keep the water warm instead it boils & shuts off. But I really don't mind since it heats the water lightening fast. The instructions say to unplug the base when not in use but I leave mine plugged in. This is attractive enough to keep out on the counter all of the time.
