When the pot arrived I looked in vain on the package for exactly what the stainless steel content is. There is no information on the box and no accompanying documentation. I wasn't even sure if the piece is made in the USA.
So I contacted Oneida. The rep informed me that this piece is 18/0 stainless. How this mix is interpreted as "professional" cookware is anyone's guess. According to info about stainless steel, 18/0 is an inferior grade and prone to spotting and rusting without the nickel. It's also why it is frequently less expensive, as the addition of nickel costs more for the manufacturer.
If you only wanted to boil water in this pot, it would likely be fine. However, I wanted to use it for a variety of purposes (you know... a "multi-pot"!). Cooking acidic foods such as chili or spaghetti sauce could be a problem in the 18/0 stainless. So I am returning this and will look for something else.

Great value for the price. A stock pot, steamer and a lobster or pasta pot with glass lid. Well made and does the job for $59. The capacity is perfect for two people.Best Deals for Oneida 8 Quart Multi Pot
My daughter asked for a large sauce pot to make my mother-in-laws spaghetti sauce. I have an old Farberware 8 qt dutch oven/stockpot. I wanted to find something similar. This Oneida Multi Pot is large enough to hold the spaghetti sauce recipe (stainless) so no funky tastes, and functions for pasta and as a steamer. Well made and I get 3 pots for the price of one with the same high quality.Honest reviews on Oneida 8 Quart Multi Pot
I recently purchased a multiport from a kitchen product website. It was not cheap. At first, I thought it was great. The pot itself appeared well made and I liked that the handles did not get hot. But once I started using it, I found out it's flaws. While the hole in the lid is the same size as the Oneida pot, they do not perform the same when steaming or boiling water for pasta. The other pot spit out hot water onto my stove. The lid shook as if it was going to pop off the pot. This does not happen with the Oneida pot, It comes to a boil faster than the other pot. I have never had ay problems with water spitting out onto my stove. And the construction is just as good as the first pot.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Oneida 8 Quart Multi Pot
Have to say I was a bit skeptical at first since prices for these 8 quart multi-pots can range much higher and there wasn't a lot of descriptive info or pictures. If you feel the same then don't. This is a very solid, well engineered multi-pot. This thing is very big and for a family of 4 it's more than large enough. It cooks a ton of pasta, plus steam veggies, make chili or soup, etc. We've had it for a couple of months and really use it all the time. The clear glass lid is very helpful. This looks a lot more expensive than it was.The aluminum base works to heat it evenly and the stainless steel makes cleanup a breeze. Quality construction and obviously a non-stick coating like teflon isn't something you have to worry about. Works well. The handles are secured with rivets that are stylish.
Shipping was good and packaged right. Came perfect out of the box. Overall very nice. For the price possibly the best 8 quart multi-pot on amazon.
