This thing is small, well built and the bags are heavy duty as stated. The Food Saver I had broke within the first two weeks and using those rolls of bag plastic was a pain. This sealer comes with a plastic thing used for closing the bags, but you'll likely not need it. although the bags are heavy duty and reusable, the instructions recommend throwing them away if they've held raw meet. The bags are dishwasher safe, but I recommend putting soapy water in them and sucking a little bit of water through the valve then rinse the bags and dry them inside and out with a towel. I take sealed bag out of the refrigerator, break the seal, take something out of the bag, close the bag, reseal it, and stick in back in the frig in about 40-60 seconds... it's that fast.

I bought this to use in conjunction with my Foodsaver Wide-Mouth Mason Jar sealer. I only used it to seal up two jars so far, and it has worked flawlessly. It has a single suction cup on the business-end of the pistol, and I just place it over the Jar Sealer's hole, press the trigger for 10 seconds and the jar is sealed up tight as a drum. As for the mason jar, it sealed very tight -almost too tight. I had a lot of difficulty prying it off, but I hope that I will get that technique down with practice. I wonder whether I ought to create "less" of a vacuum by pumping for less time...In any case, I wanted to write the review because I didn't see any, and I wanted people to know this can be used to seal mason jars.
I haven't tried using the plastic bags that came with this, though I do intend to use them for things like sealing up sliced cheeses and other stuff that doesn't fit well in a jar.
This device is fairly large, though obviously much smaller than a counter-top sealing device. It is also smaller than a hair dryer, though it feels quite sturdy.
The battery came charged, though the instructions say to charge it for 12 hours before use (the LED was green right out of the box). The battery does not appear to be removable (the instructions do not indicate that it is removable) so I do not know how long this will last, but assume it will last a very long time given that it is not going to be a heavily used appliance, and that even when the battery starts to lose its longevity it will still work to seal stuff, though perhaps not to seal as many things before recharging is needed.
