Anyone that cans needs this tool. I can reach into the scalding water with this wand and pick up a lid, then place it on the can. Wow, no burns. It is a lot better than trying to fish out a lid with a fork (my old way). It helps to keep everything sterile while canning.Best Deals for Norpro 606 Magnetic Lid Wand
This is just a tip; the wand works perfectly, as described. BUT, be careful to lift lids ONLY by the metal side. The wand will scratch the finish off the inside of the lid -which makes the lid useless for safe canning. I had no idea the inner lid linings were so lightly laid on until I ruined 5 out of 24 lids -lids I'd just sterilized -by using the wand to pick them up by either side. I had 3 wands; I tested them all (and ruined a few more lids). It was not a flaw in any given wand, just a flaw in my method.Don't put yourself in the position of wasting lids at the end of your process when timing is everything. Make sure to lift lids from the sterilizing bath only by the metal side.

This little gadget worked really well for me. I have used tongs in the past and this is much easier. Right out of the hot water onto the jar, real easy.
