I love pie beads and was sorely disappointed after a move to be only able to find the disconnected "beads" meant to resemble beans. Yes, you can use just some dried beans. But to me these work so much better and are oh-so-much easier to remove and clean up. My only complaint is that the bead chain is a little long. I am going to cut about a third off of it to see if that workds better. It should not cover the bottom crust so much but unfortunately it does, causing the bottom to not cook properly. A shorter chain (or cut it in half and have two!) should solve this issue.
And for those of you new to pie beads: make sure you have either some tongs or two forks ready (or better: two tongs) to remove the beads as they will be HOT; they are easily washed in the dishwasher in either the utensil basket or put the beads into a strainer and then into the dishwasher. Easy as...well..pie! ; )

I was never able to bake a pie shell without it shrinking before.
This sure helps to make a beautiful shell.

I always put off buying one of these as I didn't want another gadget in my drawers. After using it only one time I love it. Glad I bought it!

If you've ever had bubbles appear in your pie crust, you too know that weights are needed. I had the ceramic balls (originally in a heat resistant heart which broke the first time I used it) and it was a nightmare. This chain works great and it's a lot easier to take out after the crust is finished. And it's washable so you can feel confident using it. Anyway, try it, you'll love it too!

I used to use dried beans as pie weights okay but messy at times. This metal pie weight chain makes application, removal and cleaning of the pie weights sooo much easier!
