This glazed tagine is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. The dish is deep enough to accommodate veggies and meat, and the conical lid can be lifted from the top without any mitten. The hole on the cone allows the steam to get out but still keeps the moisture inside. What I love about this tagine is that it retains the heat long after I removed it from the stovetop.

The tagine arrived very fast and very well packed, but it did not contain any care instruction. Not a problem. A quick Google showed me that I needed to season it first. I submerged the tagine overnight in the biggest bucket I could find. The next morning, I rubbed the entire tagine (inside and out) with the olive oil before putting it in the cold oven. I turned on the oven to 300 degree for 2 hours. I let it cool down in the oven, then wash and dry. Now it's ready for cooking! I use my tagine with a heat diffuser (costs only few dollars) in a medium to low heat setting. The food is ready in two hours, from my stovetop to the dinner table -very simple and delicious. Highly recommended!

PS this tagine is considered "extra large." The company also offers "Large" size tagine for $10 less. If you are considering buying tagine, this one is a much better deal because the dish is deeper so that liquid won't seep out. (The other dish is more shallow.) Cleanup is a breeze! Make sure it's completely dried before storing away.

With a little prep work and research on the internet, we were able to make sure that our tagine was set to go. Be sure to follow some online instructions before you use it. It requires some soaking in water, covering in oil and heating (my girlfriend did most of the prep work). After three dishes made so far, it works like a charm and we've had no problems with it so far.

I cannot begin to express how disappointing this tagine has been. I ordered this as a gift for my husband. He has traveled the world and is always excited by any opportunity to try new foods. When the box arrived, I was impressed with the care they took in shipping. When my husband opened the box we were both impressed with how lovely the tagine was. It was very handmade looking and rustic (we appreciated this a lot). There were no instructions provided, however my husband is a planner by nature and obsessively researches everything. We spent time researching dishes and spices and how to season and prep our tagine carefully. The vendors own instructions on Amazon clearly state that it is for cooking ON or IN the stove. It also says that no diffuser is needed when cooking with electric or glass stovetops. Our oven has a glass top but we even went the extra mile and contacted the maker of our stove to find out the actual temperatures that line up with the number indicators on our burners. We were told that 5 is around 295 degrees. We decided on a Moroccan Chicken dish and cooked it slowly for 1.5 hours on 3 and 4. We turned down the tagine to the lowest setting for approx. 15 minutes before serving. When my husband removed the lid we saw a huge deep crack that went completely through the base. It was only after washing it that we saw the extent of the crack. It ran from the center to the rim of the base and even went around the base halfway.

We emailed the vender for a return. Their response was to ask what temp we cooked on and if the crack was leaking. We supplied the information and they responded by telling us that it is recommended to only use the tagine in the oven as it is not in direct contact with heat. I was flabbergasted! Why would you recommend this and not inform potential buyers of this information on the items page? They also stated that UPS will not pick up the package unless the original packaging was included. Of course we threw away the (plain) brown shipping box and bubble wrap along with all the other present packaging the day after Christmas. They then stated that they do not accept returns for used items (cooking once with great care is used?). They have offered to replace the base. We feel that isn't good enough. I wanted a tagine that we could cook on our stove and oven with and have flexibility. There are certainly tagines out there that can do all of that. We wanted something authentic and a fun cooking experience and instead we have ending up with a huge headache. I would certainly not recommend this tagine to anyone in good conscience!

A fine and beautiful pot. (Photo is accurate.) Very useful size. Arrived packed with exceeding care (large box & very thick layer of bubble wrap) and in perfect condition. Cooks a mean tagine!

I love this Tagine. We followed the marinating instructions and used a big tupperware storage container to soak the tagine in. We did have to open the hole on the top a little more since the glaze covered it. Every dish we cooked in the tagine has been fabulous. Since a lot of liquid is produced during cooking, I always leave out the addition of liquid if it calls for it in the recipe. I love combining my ingredients with William Sonoma's tagine spice or jars of tagine sauce. Only negative is that even though this is extra large, you can only cook for about four adults with this Tagine.

folks, be careful here. I bought the item and didn't check out the s&h until checkout time! fully twice the price of the individual item! I expected a couple dollars, but that was sooo much!

But more than that was how the item was shipped! It was sent in a box the size of a huge Laser Player or amplifier... FILLED with the horrid styrafoam peanuts... (a personal pet peeve of mine... I much prefer the air-filled bags... easier on the environment)... anyway, here's this HUGE box filled with this junk, and this skinny little item on the inside.

Granted, I know you have to have a box to ship the item in. But with the item's size, you can ship it in a PIZZA type box, or even a cardboard box flattened and taped over it.

CERTAINLY not worth the price of $8.95 of shipping!

I avoided food processors in the past because the food chute was always too small, the motor wasn't up to the job, and they were a pain to clean. My fiancé bought me this food processor as a Christmas present. I'm pleased to say that we're both impressed by its appearance, thoughtful design, and performance.

The brushed stainless finish is attractive and easy to wipe clean. The handle-in-front work bowl design is accessible to me (right-handed) and him (left-handed) equally. The machine doesn't take up a huge amount of counter space, and sits securely without "walking" or shimmying even when processing heavy foods.

The work bowl has a HUGE opening that greatly reduces pre-prep knife time. However, you are not stuck using the big opening all the time. The pusher has a smaller round "sub-pusher" in it that provides a smaller opening for holding long vegetables upright or for adding liquids while in motion. The lid is secure but can be removed and replaced easily. Everything fits stably and securely on the motor base. Work bowl, lid, and pusher work together to make sure you are not exposed to sharp edges or flying food (so long as you don't stick your hand down the pusher opening). At 9 cups, the work bowl is the perfect size (7 cups is just barely too small for good processing, I've found).

The first thing I made with the processor was a turkey salad with leftovers from Christmas dinner. Big chunks of onion, celery, and green pepper chopped evenly in a few pulses using the S blade. Big chunks of cooked turkey chopped evenly and smoothly without pureeing. The included spatula got all the food out of the work bowl quickly without making a mess. I made homemade mayonnaise (successful my first time ever with homemade mayo) according to the recipe in the documentation, and threw in some herbs to mince while it was processing. I sliced a cucumber with the slicing disk and was startled how quickly it went through.

My fiancé walked in and said, "Wow, are you already done with that? I didn't even hear you." (The machine is quieter than my blender.) While I plated the salad, he washed the parts quickly with a soapy sponge and was surprised how easy it was.

It's important to know that this machine will take the same blades and attachments as the 7-cup version (the Prep 7, DLC-2007N). It doesn't say that on Amazon's or Cuisinart's site or anywhere in the documentation, but it does mention in a hard-to-notice place on the side of the box that it uses 7-cup processor parts. The set includes a standard 4mm slicing disk and a medium shredding disk, but I've ordered the 2mm slicing and a fine grating disk and plan to order the egg whisk later.

EDIT: I received the two disk attachments, and they fit and work just like the disks that came in the box. This verifies that the attachments for the 7-cup model fit this 9-cup model too.

My first attempt at purchasing a food processor was to buy the $69.99 Oster. I did this because of the price. Predictably, it did not perform well and I had to return it. Perhaps Oster does better with blenders, I don't know. After doing further research, I was torn between KitchenAid and Cuisinart. There are hordes of loyal followers in each camp on this issue, and it was hard to choose based on reviews. I finally just went with Cuisinart, because it happened to be the model that my local store carried. In general, I'm happy with the product and would recommend it to other home cooks. I've only had this appliance a few months, and I don't use it every day. I probably use it once every couple weeks because it's only my husband and me so I don't cook for a crowd. I do love to prep a lot of food and then freeze it ahead because I'm a busy teacher, so the processor is a big help with that. If it were not so heavy and easier to clean, I'd probably use it more because this workhorse really gets the job done fast. Here are my observations based on what I've done with it so far:

It is excellent at:

Making breadcrumbs (both fresh and dried)

Mincing fresh herbs

Chopping/mincing raw and cooked meats (like whole chicken for chicken patties etc.)

Making salsa

Pretty Good/Could Be Better:

Shredding carrots, cheese (very quick and uniform, but some gets stuck between the lid and the shredding disc)

Grating a wedge of Parmesan (I put small chunks of it in the bowl with the chopping blade, as it shows in the DVD demonstration and the result was coarser than I expected. In the end it melted fine in the dish I was making (lasagna), but it just felt like coarse sand to me when I was finished processing it, rather than soft powdery flakes like you get when you use the fine holes on the box grater. Still, it sure was a heckuvalot quicker than doing it by hand. I guess I'd do it again, as long as it was being added to a dish that would be cooked, like pasta. To make a pile of Parm to serve at the table or to add to breading, I would still use a handheld Microplane zester.)

Not Good:

Slicing green onion by the bunch (it pulled them under the lid rather than slicing)

Cleanup and Handling

It's a little finicky to wash by hand, because there are nooks and crannies for stuff to get stuck in. So far with a little effort and some strong jets of water to shoot into the cracks, I've been able to get it clean. It MUST air-dry, because there's no way to get a towel into the handle, where some water collects. If I had a dishwasher I think cleanup would be a breeze. So far I've only used it when I had a big job to do, because otherwise it's just quicker to pull out the old cutting board and knife or the box grater. They're easier to haul out and quicker to clean. Speaking of which, this processor weighs about 12 pounds empty, and in the summer the rubber feet tend to "suction" themselves onto whatever surface they're sitting on. Not so easy to lift this baby down from on top of the fridge, I discovered and I'm 5'9!. ' I would recommend storing this at countertop level or lower, and then lifting with your knees to save your back and shoulders.

Final Comments:

I am happy with my purchase and would buy another Cuisinart if this one ever dies. I wish it shredded things without pulling them sideways under the lid, but that's my only complaint and actually, it's only a small amount that gets pulled under. In the end, I'd much rather use this processor to shred several pounds of cheese than to use the box grater. I would recommend this size to a family of 4 and up unless you're like me, and you like to chop a bunch of stuff at once and then freeze or can it. Good product, decent price for what you get overall.

Best Deals for Cuisinart Prep Plus Food Processors

I'm a Kitchenaid kind of girl, so when my husband surprised me with the Cuisinart Food Processor, I was faced with quite the quandry. I began to research both the Cuisinart 2011 and the Kitchenaid 760. The reviews pointed slightly towards the Kitchenaid so I figured I'd swap mine for it. I visited a local store to compare them in person and was so disappointed to realize that the Cuisinart fits together more securely and smoothly. In denial I stared at the blades for quite some time. Finally I had to admit to myself that the Cuisinart ones were heavier. They felt better and looked more solid. Oh how I tried to convince myself that the Kitchenaid was better. But I just didn't like how the top on the Kitchenaid snapped into place. It's not as smooth. The KA comes with more tools. Surely I'd end up with the Kitchenaid.

I went home and joined the online Kitchenaid Conversation Forum. Who does this? It's a group of people who post back and forth about their devotion to Kitchenaid. I begged Kitchenaid Rita to help me back on the righteous path.

Then I started using my Cuisianrt to test it out. I tried not to love it. I just couldn't help myself. It's so convenient to use. I started to think that the extra KA bowls might start to get on my nerves--always taking them in and out. I've made all kinds of things in my food processor. I made pizza dough. I can't believe I've been kneading by hand all these years. I made sweet potato chips; I made hummus and salsa... the list grows each day.

I actually use it all the time. And, it would be very much like me not to use it if it were at all hard to assemble or clean.

OK, there you have it. A perfectionist's testamonial and admission of betrayal. I do love my new Cuisinart 2011, and I feel guilty for ever having doubted it. And just last night my new TOB-165 Cuisinart Toaster Oven arrived. Review on that soon...

Honest reviews on Cuisinart Prep Plus Food Processors

After thirty years with my old Cuisinart food processor I decided it was time for an upgrade. I have used my new one to shred, slice and chop, which it does with speed and efficienc. The 9-cup bowl is bigger than what I was used to, but I love having that capacity one can cook for just two, as I usually do, or for a group with ease.

I did, what I thought was, a lot of research and really took my time picking out a new food processor. I own a 15 year old 11 cup kitchenaid processor that I use all the time. It's a great machine, but has been discontinued and I can't seem to order the parts I need for it right now. Thus, I figured it was time for a new one.

I think the new 12 cup kitchenaid leaves a lot to be desired in the new design, and the same is true for many of the new Cuisinart processors, but this unit got a very high rating from consumer reports. So, I went for it! I figured there was a 10 year motor and 3 year parts warranty, how big a chance could I be taking? Right?!

Well buyer, beware! I did notice some "wonky" reviews stating that these were refurbished units and only had a 90 day warranty, but many stated they purchased from a deal of the day, and I wasn't. I assumed these must be 2 different lots as Amazon is SO reliable in descriptions of merchandise. Well, guess what ...

First thing I did when I got it was pull it out and call Cuisinart. They verified from the serial # that it was a refurbished unit with a 90 day warranty. Second thing I did was pack it back up and send it back to Amazon with a less than friendly e-mail. Now, I am back on the hunt for a new food processor.

To Amazon's credit they stopped selling the machine about 1/2 hour after my e-mail was received and are "researching" what happened. I hope they do start selling the unit again, but properly advertised and possibly at a better price if it only has a 90 day warranty.

Addendum: I am Really disappointed in Amazon at present. They have officially begun selling these again. They are still listed with a sizable warranty (10/3 years) that is not actually included with this unit. This unit is refurbished, confirmed by Cuisinart, and is fraudulently being sold as new by Amazon. I wonder, now, if this is a regular practice, or maybe a new one? I wonder if some ambitious lawyer out there is going to come up with a huge lawsuit against Amazon... ?

Additional addendum: I called Cuisinart today (6/15/12) DLC-2011N Prep Plus 11 cup food processor was discontinued in 2010. I suspect it would be very difficult to find a new in box product at this point.

I wish someone had reviewed this before I purchased it. I thought going with metal over the plastic one would be better, but turns out it didn't matter. This thing is completely unstable and tips over! I was getting a pot down and the top 2 fell over on top of me. The little metal piece they give you to "stabilize" the shelf is flimsy and at an tip of the pot goes out of place sending the pot falling to the ground or on top of you like it did to me. Also, if you don't have an even amount of weight hanging on both sides, the entire thing tips over. It's really bad design and unfortunately, I am unable to hang anything in my kitchen so I may need to keep this stupid thing or add on to it so it actually works. I wish I had not purchased this item.

I initially ordered one of these Pot Racks. After I figured out how much room it would take up and how many pots/pans it would hold, I ordered another.

I noticed the problem with the round disks that wouldn't stay in place (that some others mentioned), but I just used a drop of Loctite on each little "pin" that went in the slots. Problem solved. I now have 2 stable racks that are holding most of my pots/pans and also my large bowls/casseroles.

I'm very happy with the 2 racks helped me get my spring cleaning/organizing off to a good start.

Best Deals for Cook N Home Pot Rack Cookware Organizer, 6 Set/Case

This has to be one of the biggest pieces of junk I've ever purchased. I don't like to give negative reviews but I had to on this one. The picture shows the pots sitting in the middle of the little "pyramid." Included is a little 3 inch ring that is supposed to be what you sit the pot on to store it. Even if the ring stayed in place, which it doesn't, it's not anywhere big enough for the pot to sit on and stay put. Trying to remove a pot or frying pan causes all the pots to fall off their nesting place. I finally became so frustrated that I threw the thing in the trash. Not worth a penny much less the asking price.

Honest reviews on Cook N Home Pot Rack Cookware Organizer, 6 Set/Case

Item was what we were looking for: something to separate our pots in a semi-orderly fashion. This does the trick. One thing to note is this product is semi-large--almost too big to set right on your counter. We keep ours in our pantry. Cheers!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Cook N Home Pot Rack Cookware Organizer, 6 Set/Case

I was better off with the pots stacked inside each other. My pots will not sit on the shelves because it is a cross of metal holding them and it is almost impossible to balance a pot or pan on the shelf. They fall down all the time and I can't reach past them without lightly brushing them and then clattering to the floor. The circle of metal meant to stabilize the thing didn't help it either. It stands up fine on its own but it'd be nice if it actual held the pots. I am trying to justify keeping it because I want it to work, but it is no easier to access them and I'm getting tired of continually balancing them back on the shelves. I hate this thing.

Bought this item and am very satisfied. The product is very simply made. It consists of a heavy round platter with a handle held together with two pressed pins---very sturdy construction. Beautiful, impeccable quality. A perfect size for a good fried steak (or anything) or a spanish omelette, which is what I use it for most of the time. If you live alone, this is your perfect frying pan for quick, single serving foods.

Sometimes I just have to cook on medium heat. When I do, I reach for a pan with a high copper content. I finally decided to turn the copper content all the way up to "11." So I bought a Mauviel M'Heritage M150B 8.6" Round Frying pan.

The Mauviel M'Heritage M150B 8.6" Round Frying pan works great for a little light duty cooking. These pans are a decent compromise in that they are copper pans that have a thin stainless steel liner. Stainless steel and copper have wildly different reactions to salts and acids, so you'll want to watch what you are doing. Just read the directions that come with the pans and it'll last forever.

The Non-Stick pan is above average, but not as good as the Emeril Stainless steel pan. I figured it would be the same pan with an Anodized/non-stick coating on it, but I was mistaken. It does not heat as evenly around the pan as the stainless steel Emeril pan, nor is it as heavy duty. The non-stick portion is pretty good, but it will scratch VERY easily (just like any non-stick I think). However, it is a decent pan and far better than any generic/disposable pan you would get at Walmarts or Sears. I would say it is about the same quality as a mid-range Calphalon pan. Which is surprising, because this pan is actually made by All-Clad. For he price you can't go wrong. I certainly wouldn't pay over $40 for the pan though. If you are looking to pay more than that, I would recommend a Higher end Calaphalon or All-Clad pan.

In short, you would be hard pressed to find a better non-stick pan for $40 or less. However, you can get better quality if your willing to fork out the bucks. If you don't absolutely have to have non-stick surface, then get the Emeril Stainless steel pan (also around $35/$40). FAR better quality for the same price!!

First one showed up with broken glass lid. Second one arrived a week later.

I have used this about a month, I use it about 3 or 4 times a week. Coating is already showing signs of wear. My old cheapy 12 inch was a full 12 inches at the top edge, the inside was 10 and a quarter inches. This unit immediately curves in to 11 and a half inches where the lid sits, and is only about 8 and a half inches where the food sits. That's a chinzy design for a $40 skillet. I would not buy this again.

Very easy to clean, I use many oils and have burned the occasional food item in the pan, but it has never taken me more than 15 seconds to clean this pan.

I've had my eye on this little pot for months before finally deciding to purchase. It's definitely less practical than a 1qt or 1.5qt saucepan, as it is quite small. But I'm so glad I didI use it all the time for heating up soup or leftovers (great alternative to microwaving, and absolutely quicker!), boiling just one or two eggs, and making hot cocoa or heating milk before frothing for lattesI LOVE the pour spout and it makes all of these jobs so much easier. I prefer the stainless line from All-Clad, and at this point don't like to deviate in order to keep the look uniform. It retains a mirror finish if washed correctly and really maintains its shine. But for some reasons the other All-Clad lines do not include the pour spouts in their version of this pot anyway, and the pour spouts are arguably the best feature! Now that it's fall, i may also use it to mull some cider for 1-3 people, make gravy and other sauces, or a quick cranberry sauce. It frees up my larger saucepans for other parts of a meal and takes up very little space on my pot rack. Would definitely buy again!!

Its All Clad, what else is there to say? These pans are wonderful to cook with. I learned about them when I took a cooking class at our local Chef School. If I had gas cooking I'd be in heaven, but I have electric coils so these work just fine. I love cooking with them and they are amazingly easy to clean, even when something gets burned. I use the same things I use on my Circulon non-stick pots and pans. If it discolors you just use a little "barkeepers friend" cleanser. I love that I can put these in a hot oven for the "finish cooking". I know these will last me a life time.

They arrive carefully packed in their own little soft bags. I felt like I had received a treasure.

I've been using these pans for about 3 months and I love them. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself, even if you decide to try just one pan. Well worth the investment.

So... Most folks would say your are nuts for spending the amount of money that All Clad charges for just one pot or pan. But then, these are also the folks who will spend $99 for a set of 10 pots and pans at a discount store and then end up replacing them often. They'll also complain because their food with cook unevenly, burn, the pans will warp, the handles become loose... well, you get the picture.

When you buy All Clad, you are buying for life. Really!

All Clad pots and pans have a lifetime warranty. Cook with them once and you'll wonder why you used anything else.

Ina Garten said that she herself uses All Clad pots and pans and Wusthof knives. She noted they are expensive, but they really are a one-time purchase that lasts a lifetime. Even she suggested you can start small and add to your collection as your budget and needs allow. That's what I did and I have no regrets.

All Clad heats evenly, is very solidly constructed and remember... If you ever have a problem, if anything fails, All Clad replaces it for you, for free, no questions asked. Who wouldn't like that?

You cannot go wrong with an All Clad purchase. The stainless steel is dishwasher safe, cleans up easily and cooks like a dream. There is a reason this cookware is used in professional and high-end kitchens.

Don't buy the cheap stuff any longer... Make the investment in quality. You'll be glad you did!

I bought this little pot for my sister-in-law who has an induction stove. It's a lot more expensive than other brands, but you can't go wrong with All Clad. Very solid and well made.

Sometimes it's not practical to fire up the outside grill, so we wanted something we could use indoors. We have a glass-top stove with a "bridge burner" setup on one side. We've used it before with the smooth-top Swiss Diamond grill, and it worked fine, so we were assuming that this version with the "rainures" would work equally well. And in fact, it did. I'm hoping to use it quite a bit during the rainy season. I did learn that inside grilling generates quite a bit of odor, so it's important to run the exhaust fan if you have one. And keep the heat turned down below medium! It might take a bit longer, but not only does it protect the grill, it cooks things better that way, and gives you more control over the process.

This is the must amazing thing I ever bought. And healthy to boot! I gave away my outdoor grill. Knew I would never use it again. I researched before I picked a brand and mostly go by what customers say now. It's FABULOUS!

I wrote the Swiss Diamond company and asked for an explanation of what the nano-composite material was made of.

After a week or so, I received a polite reply from Allan Wolk, an employee in the U.S. His email informed me that, "Our patented nonstick surface uses a nano-composite of real diamond crystals and PTFE; it is applied using a computer controlled plasma gun at very high temperatures."

Naturally, my attention was immediately drawn to the PTFE. The acronym sounded familiar. What was PTFE?

A quick search of Wikipedia provided the answer: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTFE)

As Wikipedia explains:

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluoropolymer discovered by Roy J. Plunkett (1910-1994) of DuPont in 1938. It was introduced as a commercial product in 1946 and is generally known to the public by DuPont's brand name Teflon®.

Huh? Teflon? Wait a minute. Didn't the Swiss Diamond website just claim that the product contained no Teflon?

If you look back at the Swiss Diamond website screen capture, the careful wording of their answer now becomes clear. It states, "The Swiss Diamond coating does not contain any Teflon taking into consideration that "Teflon" is a trade mark, made and owned by DUPONT."

So the pans don't contain Teflon, they just contain the chemical called Teflon. It's like saying a nuclear warhead doesn't contain any plutonium, it only contains nuclear fissionable material.

For the manufacturer to insist the Swiss Diamond pans contain no Teflon whatsoever when it is made primarily from polytetrafluoroethylene, the chemical widely known as Teflon, is extremely deceptive. In fact, the intent of the Swiss Diamond company seems to be to deceive consumers by omission of the facts. The FAQ document on the Swiss Diamond website, for example, does not bother to say something like, "But our pans do contain PTFE, the chemical known as Teflon." It simply insists they contain no Teflon and moves on to the next question.

It seems that Swiss Diamond goes out of its way to give the impression that this product is free of Teflon chemicals and is surfaced primarily with diamonds. That's the impression I got, anyway, and I read the promotional materials several times before purchasing the pan.

Consumers have been hoodwinked yet again.
