I had TWO Zojirushi hot water dispensers. Both failed after less than 2 years on each. One was a manual pump and the other a 3L one touch. This SPT has everything that the Zojirushi units don't. Best of all, it is very inexpensive--about 1/2 the price! Here is my run down:

PROS:

-stainless steel tank: the non-stick on my zojirushi gradually deteriorates (in your water?) and actually sloughed off on one of my units making it useless. No such problem with stainless steel! Just descale it once a month and you are golden.

-pump: there is a safety button you press to unlock the unit and then you just press the dispense button. The water flow is so much stronger than either of my Zojirushi units--score another win for SPT.

-capacity: I went with a larger 5L size this time around. I drink a lot of french pressed coffee and also tea. Refilling a 3L unit was becoming an every 3 day affair and I just wanted to extend that a bit.

-water level display

-reboil feature: have it on 185 degrees but when I want it extra hot, I hit the reboil. Sure you can have it on the hottest setting all the time but that also means more energy.

-3 temperatures: unit will blink on selected temperature and will be a solid light when temperature is reached.

-easy to clean

CONS:

-large size means more energy wasted and also more time to reach desired temperature and even for the reboil. On the outside you can feel heat so there is definitely some heat loss that must be restored by the heating element. How much energy to keep this thing running 24/7? I wish I knew. I guess convenience has a cost.

Most of my experience with these kind of hot pots was with the Zojirushi brand, which is truly a great product thought admittedly quite expensive. The SPT pot is considerably less expensive and is a great alternative if you want to save money on the front end. Nevertheless, my rating comes in at 3 stars because the unit is very poorly insulated. It is hot to the touch on the outside. All that heat escaping into your kitchen has to come from somewhere, and it's not cheap. I'm exchanging for a Zojirushi to save that money in the long run (and get the small LCD Temp display to boot).

I ordered a 3.5 Liter hot water dispenser from SPT company for a friend. Within 6 months the product stopped working. It appeared to be an electrical problem. I was unable to contact the manufacturer by telephone, but was given an email address which I utilized to query as to repair or replacement. I never received an answer. My friend really enjoyed this item, and used the product daily while it worked, so I ordered another one, however, I increased the size to the 5 Liter model, hoping the size difference might prove to be an improvement. When my friend received the 5 Liter model and placed water in the dispenser, it immediately began leaking from the bottom of the dispenser. Since the product was just purchased, I contacted the seller (not the manufacturer) and the seller immediately replaced this new unit with another one, which worked dutifully for almost 11 months. Now, as of today, this product no longer works. It appears that there is another electrical problem. Since it has been 11 months, the seller is requiring me to contact the manufacturer, and they gave me a telephone number this time. So far I have been unable to get anyone to answer the telephone. I would not recommend this product to anyone, due to the quality of the product. If it worked, and worked for several years, it may be well worth the high price, but with problems in 3 of 3 products, it is my opinion that either there is absolutely no quality control in the manufacturing process, or the parts that are used are of such low quality that one may expect this product to fail within 6 to 12 months, every time.

We received the Spt 5 Liter pot and liked it so much that I am just ordering another one while I am logged on to my account. It has a nice stainless steel interior and holds the temperatures great. My only complaint is that everything is in English. There is not Japanese or Chinese labels on the pot and the directions must have been written by someone with English as a first language, because they are easy to understand. This was my only disappointment, no challenge deciphering humorous Asian instructions.

I would recommend this to anyone who used lots of hot water and wants it on demand. In addition to tea,the ideal temp for pour over coffee making is 192F-204F. The high temp setting of 208F on this pot pegs it perfectly. I selfishly bought this unit because I am a coffee drinker and my family are tea drinkers, so everyone in the family is happy.

I just received my second SPT 5 Liter pot. It also works great out of the box. I love it. My wife loves it. Again I recommend the appliance.

I use this daily and love it. The only downside is if you run low on water, it can evaporate and the unit will shut off. Make sure you keep it full so this doesn't happen. Other wise this is perfect for all my tea needs.

I know, I know, dimensions are always included in product descriptions, but I always have a hard time wrapping my head around what size something actually is. I've been disappointed before when items are smaller than expected, and I figured when this crock arrived I would have to throw out half my utensils. Not so! This thing is huge! It held all my stuff, with enough room left over that I don't drag half of them out when I try to grab a spatula. It's also plenty wide and heavy that it stays put when you pull out your utensils. I bought this and the spoon rest in gold, and the canisters in red, and I have that nice Fiesta look for a fraction of the price. Definitely a good buy!

The Signature tool jar, Sorrento pattern, is the perfect compliment to the canisters. I purchased this pattern in Ruby and the color is vibrant without being fire engine red. It is a wide mouthed jar, so will hold quite a few tools. I get compliments on this stoneware every time someone comes into my home.

Like another reviewer, I liked this tool jar, but found it was not the color pictured; in particular, it did not match the gold Sorrento canisters and spoon rest that I ordered. The others were a fairly uniform yellow Dijon mustard color, as in the photos, but this piece, also described as gold, was more of a slightly orangey gold color, like the old appliance color known as harvest gold. Otherwise it is lovely and of a generous size. I am disappointed that I have had to return it. It would be great if the manufacturer offered a set including the canisters and tool jar, to ensure that everything matched.

A common problem with previous Polder thermometers I have owned is that if you get the bare, metal probe cord wet, water can get into the probe itself and ruin it by throwing off the temperature readings. I have thrown away several probes because of this, especially since I use these thermometers for beer making.

Some reviewers complained that the cord was rubber and not metal like in the picture, when in fact this is a HUGE improvement over the old probes and that it appears to still be the metal, braided cable only it's now covered in the watertight rubber seal. Us home brewers used to go to great lengths to try and waterproof these cables ourselves. Thankfully now Polder has done it for us.

I can assure you that the temperature reads accurately since I used it in conjunction with a candy thermometer the first couple times I used it. The alarm and timer functions are invaluable. The pan clip is what prompted me to get this in the first place; the watertight probe was just a pleasant surprise.

Although you cannot technically turn it off, the amount of power this thing uses from a single AAA battery (included) is negligible and single AAA batteries are not going to break the bank. Overall, this is the best Polder thermometer I have owned yet, mainly thanks to its new watertight probe cable. Thanks Polder.

This is a good product for the price . Easy to use intuitive controls , display easy to read , temperature is accurate . There is no on/off button but this isn't a big deal as the battery will probably still last for years even with it always on .

You can set the alarm to go off when it reaches whatever temperature you set it for and the alarm is nice and loud . The reason I got this was for yogurt making . I wanted to have an alarm to let me know when the milk had cooled to the proper temperature instead of having to check it every 15 minutes . One problem though : You can only use the temperature alarm feature when going *UP TO* a temperature . If you have the milk at 180 degrees and set the temperature alarm to go off at 115 degrees the alarm goes off immediately because the temp has already reached or surpassed 115 degrees . In other words this thermometer is worthless for what I had hoped to use it for . You cannot set the temperature alarm to *GO DOWN TO* a given temperature which is too bad . Still, this is a well built easy to use thermometer ... just not what I had hoped for.

I got this for Christmas (it was on my wishlist) and I was delighted. It preformed well the first couple of times I used it. The third time, it put up an error code (Hi). When I looked at the instructions, I found that this means the cable has been damaged and needs to be replaced. What the &@%#??? I used the thing THREE times. Sent an e-mail to the company about it and, of course, got no response. My advice? Look elsewhere. Disappointed...

The photo in the ad clearly shows that the wire is coated in steel mesh, not plastic. The thermometer I received was plastic coated, not as advertised. I have found that the plastic coated wires do not hold up and soon melt, needing to be replaced.

I have owned this pan for 3-4 years. I plan on replacing my 10 inch about that often as they begin to show some wear -that isn't bad for $20 or so. I have not found a nonstick surface that holds up to metal utensils or high heat. If you are careful about these things, this pan can last several years. I use mine almost every day.

I needed a new 10" non stick fry pan and purchased this thinking it would be heavier than it really was. I was worried when I first used it thinking my food would burn easily etc. Well, it is a great pan! It browns chops and chicken well, the heat distributes evenly. It cleans up really well. I really like it.

Update March 2013. This pan is still going strong. I use it for everything and the finish is still as good as it was when I first got it.

My mom bought me the 12 inch version of this skillet about 8 years ago, and it's been in daily use for at least the last 5. I can't believe how well it's held up! The non-stick finish is still intact, with only the most superficial of surface scratches, and still works great. So when I couldn't stand my 10 inch "Simply Calphalon" much-more-expensive-piece-of-garbage skillet another minute, due to terrible flaking and peeling of its coating, I looked high and low for a 10 inch Revereware. Nowhere to be found, until I came to Amazon. Thank goodness they still sell these here! I'm going to buy another 12 inch and store it away, just in case of the terrible event that Revere would stop making them all together; that's how much I love them.

I was afraid this new one might be different since it was several years since my old one was purchased, but it looks and feels just the same. I cook everything from eggs to chili in these skillets; their deep sides allow browning of meats followed by adding substantial amounts of liquid, all in one pan. If you treat them nicely, following the manufacturer's instructions, they'll last for many years. Only use plastic or wooden utensils, avoid super-high heat or drastic rapid temperature changes. It's not necessary to wash them after every use; they're so non-stick that you can usually just wipe them out with a paper towel -this helps preserve the coating. When they do get dirty, hand wash only; dishwashers are harsh on non-stick coatings. I've done all of this with many other brands of skillets and still they wore out after only a year or two; Reveres are the only ones I've found that last.

I was looking for "old school" skillets that weren't so heavy like the anodized ones they are making now. I had TFal for years, but it finally shot craps. The TFal being sold on Amazon had reviews stating they were shallow skillets. That wasn't what I wanted, so I took a chance on these. I am very pleased! They are great...lightweight, non-stick, and the perfect depth. They do discolor on the outside as another user mentioned, but that doesn't bother me. My skillets are kept in a cabinet and not on display. The only thing I warn against is using metal utensils! I was kind of mashing some hamburger and stirring it with a regular stainless skill serving spoon, and it did knick it up a little. My TFal wasn't that sensitive, so I didn't know. Ooops!

The reason I purchased the smooth s/s all clad was for even cooking temperature AND shiny smooth interior for ease of cleaning. My Cuisinart 3 qt s/s all clad is a breeze to clean since the inside is a smooth as the outside. Not so with the Calphalon with its tiny little grooves. They are almost imperceptible on first glance but after the residue of my poached eggs required a few minutes of extra scrubbing I could tell they were there. Disappointing for sure. Would not purchase another Calphalon pot now.

I was looking for a new set of stainless sauce pans and was down to this line or the Cuisinart Multi-Clad Pro (MCP). I bought one of each line to test with and used the experience to decide which set I would purchase. Essentially, both sets performed similarly with only two significant differentiators in my mind: ease of cleaning and price. The Calphalon was actually easier to clean than the Cuisinart. I have no idea why but stuff sticks a bit more to the MCP. The other thing, and the one that made my decision, was price. The Calphalon Tri-Ply line (four Tri-Ply pans vs. four Cuisinart MCP pans) was double the cost. Since they performed just about evenly in my kitchen, I bought the less expensive MCP set. As a stand-alone purchase, however, I would buy this Calphalon pan again. It is solidly built, thick, heats evenly, cleans easily, and has a great rolled lip that makes pouring simple. BTW, please note that this sauce pan does not ship with a lid.

I bought this pan this Fall and took it with me on a road trip out to Venice California, where my good friend was sharing a house with an up and coming natural foods chef and lifestyle consultant. As a thank you gesture to them for letting me stay, I threw a little paella party and whipped out this gorgeous show stopper of a pan. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it not only performed well in cooking, but it also served as a beautiful part of the party decoration before and after the actual meal preparation. The hand-hammered construction gives this pan a unique look and feel over the machine stamped stuff you see around. Also, the finish quality and details, like the stainless steel handles, are superb. We took advantage of the bountiful selection of squid, mussels, shrimp, and fish available in southern California and cooked up an excellent seafood paella that was a big hit. The paella came out delicious, but the pan itself was the talk of the night. Oh, and also in terms of capacity, we had 10 people at the party. Everyone ate their fill and could have eaten again if they wanted, so this is the one you want for a group of 20.

Brand new stainless steel stock pot has 2 ugly stains & black spots stuck on the inside on the pot's bottom after paying $100??

Also, everywhere I read, Tramontina is made in Brazil or the U.S. Didn't know that China was in either country. For less money, I could have bought a 12qt multipot made in China without the stains. Also, the pot's interior looks cheap as if a overused wirebrush cleaned it.

This pot is very well made and has the thick and heavy bottom to distribute the heat evenly unlike most of the thin stock pots in this size. It is an awesome upsized dutch oven and cooks without burning. Well worth the money!!!!

I do not put them in the dishwasher but soak them in warm water and soap until I can wash them properly and by doing this makes the pans easy to clean and clean up very well. Using the Bar Keepers Friend for cookware to polish them has been esential and shines them up well! I also place pieces of felt between the pans so I can stack them without scratching. I do not have room for a hanging rack. I do recommend this set and am planning to get another set for our vacation home. As far as trying to cook eggs such as fried eggs I have not been successful, but cooking scrambled eggs works every time.

It's a pair of tongs. The plastic ends staying on to grab the food with is kinda critical to performing its function. We've owned it for about 3 weeks now and in that time one of the ends has fallen off. Completely useless as a tool now. Useless.

So far, I have been happy with other pots and pans of this set so I ordered the 8 qt. piece. The package this pot came in was undamaged so there was no problem during shipping. Yet, the lid/cover does not fit on it. Inspecting the pot, I found that the pot is not round. The diameter across the top where the handles are is almost 1/4" less than when I measure the top 90 degrees from the handles. The top of the pot is slightly oval. I measured the lid and it is perfectly round. At first I wondered if this was intended so steam could be released. But the user's guide says that the cover fits tightly to lock in flavor. The pot is just defective. I will revise this review when and if I can get this defective pot replaced. As I have said, I own the other pots and pans of this set and I love them.

Edit note my replacement came in and it fit fine. However, now one of the lids on my other pots (same brand and type) no longer fits correctly. I have not exposed the cookware to very high heat nor has it been dropped. All of the cookware it still fairly new and looks like new. But apparently this set can get out of round easily. Otherwise, its a great set. I would give the type of cookware 5 stars except that it won't stay round. I do lay the cookware upside down on a towel (gently) if it is hand washed to allow it to drain dry but I don't stack anything on top of it. There is no reason this cookware should not stay round and that the lids should not remain fitting snug. Also, there is no heat protection on the lid handle. The pot handles don't get very hot but care must be taken when removing the lid while food is cooking or one can get burned.

This is wider and therefore, lower than other pots, so it's no problem to fit on the fridge shelves. The aluminum is not as heavy as my 10 year old Technique from QVC, but I can't get that any more so this is a pretty good replacement.

This steamer fits perfectly on Cuisinart's 4 Qt saucepan. The lid seals in every bit of steam. I used to always have to add more water when steaming batches of corn-on-the-cob, but since no steam escapes here, I can make several batches non-stop. I also like the fact that the steamer is wide; that means that the food will cook evenly (instead of other steamers where the stuff at the bottom gets overcooked and the stuff at the very top gets undercooked). I've only used the steamer five or six times but so far, there's practically no sign of dullness or staining maybe just a little sign of dullness, but I'm more interested in function than appearance. Washing it immediately will keep it stain-free. Overall, an incredible deal for $20.00!

This steamer insert is the perfect addition for the Chef's Classic cookware. I love this line by Cuisinart I bought the 10 piece set and was so happy with it that I have purchased 5 additional pieces to handle nearly all my cooking needs. This steamer insert has been getting lots of use in our house. We use it almost every night!

It fits the 3 and 4 quart sauce pans nicely and the lid fits well, not tight physically, but create a good seal like all the Chef's Classic line and does not leak steam! I have six different methods of steaming available to me in my kitchen (including a large counter top steamer), but this is the one I find myself using most often because it has such a large capacity and the cleanup is so easy. My counter top steamer has nearly the same capacity as the Cuisinart insert, but it has 3 parts that need to be washed PLUS the steamer base which cannot be submerged and is a bit of a hassle to clean. With the Cuisinart steamer and saucepan, it's as easy as if you had just boiled water a couple of quick wipes, rinse and you're done!

This 20 'cm' steamer fits the 2 qt., 3 qt., and 4 qt. Chef's Classic pots. I don't have the 4 qt. yet so I can't say how this steamer would fit. It fits very nicely into the 3 qt. pot. (I cannot really imagine steaming anything in a 2 qt. pot.)

The lid to the steamer seems to slide around a bit. As a result, it is hard for me to picture it sealing 'tightly'. However, when I used it to steam frozen veggies, little of the steam escaped.

All-in-all, this is a niche item, expecially since a microwave oven does such an excellent job of steaming. I purchased this as a 'completer'. You may find the attractive price draws you to add this to your cookware collection as well.

I purchased the rest of this line 6-8 years ago. I finally rounded it out by buying the steamer. The steamer and its lid are super thin and light compared to the rest of my set. I don't know if that is intended for the steamer only, or if this whole set is now being built this cheaply. I would be okay with it being this thin--but for the price it doesn't seem justified. After receiving and using this item, I would say a fair price would be half of what I paid for it.

I ordered the Cuisinart Chef's classic Universal Steamer with cover when purchasing the 10-pc. stainless Cuisinart cookwear. The basket is deep which I really like and I could not wait to get rid of about six of those horrible little collapsing steamer baskets I was using! This steamer holds so much more food and the food does not fall into the hot water in the pan. It was thoughtful of cuisinart to include the lid to go with this piece and I highly recommend it.
