This is NOT a must-have product; but it IS a GOOD product. 8 flat parchment liners, each 20 inches in diameter will fit nicely in a 12-inch (6 quart) cast iron DO. I used it in my 10-inch, and cut away most of the excess, folding about 1/2 inch down over the edge of the DO, which protected the edge from drips and spills as I served. The paper did not inhibit the seal of the lid or the performance of the oven at all. When clean up time came, I just folded the liner onto itself and tossed it away no hassle to remove the last of the food. I could have even tossed it into the fire. There was some condensation between the liner and the DO, which I just wiped out with a sponge and warm water.

Granted, a properly seasoned/conditioned (and mine is) DO is not difficult to clean, but the liner enabled me to spend more time enjoying our friends on our camping trip, rather than cleaning the cast iron in the dark. But if your DO is not well seasoned yet (maybe a new pre-seasoned piece, straight out of the box), this will ensure your food won't stick. It is also helpful for those dishes that can impair that good, black non-stick conditioning, especially sweet, sticky, or acidic (tomato) based fare.

Coleman also makes this same product, but (at this writing) Lodge is about half the price.

Aluminum liners are also available. I chose the parchment liners over the aluminum ones for a few reasons:

* parchment liners are one-size-fits-most; aluminum liners are size-specific

* parchment is more compact than the aluminum ones. I can store all 7 remaining liners inside the DO or in

my camp box

* parchment is more eco-friendly than aluminum

* Lodge liners cost less than the aluminum ones

One thing to note that might make the aluminum ones a better choice for some applications is that the parchment does not fit flat up against the sides of the oven; it must be sort of pleated to go in picture a giant basket-type coffee filter, and you'll get the idea. The parchment would be less pleated in a larger oven; more-so in a smaller oven.

Also note that liners are not permitted in Dutch Oven cooking contests. These are for recreational cooking only.

Yes, I'm lazy. These liners make cleanup a snap, just fold them as you take them out and add to the campfire. Some moisture will pass to the oven, so don't forget to re-oil befre you put it away. The parchment will not burn under normal cooking, but if you usually burn dinner you'll have to scrub abd re-season anyway.

Plus: keeps the oven clean while camping I didn't have to do too much to keep things clean BUT minus: it burns and it got into the food I was making so I couldn't serve that and the areas it burned through I had to clean so it defeated the purpose. might try the tin ones next time.

These worked excellent! Made camp clean up so much easier! Will definitely be bringing these from now on! The fit was great. I don't know what the reviewer who said they burned was doing. We put ours in our 8qt Dutch oven and placed it right in the fire. 30-40mins later we had a perfect cowboy stew and later a perfect peach cobbler! Neither parchment liner was the least bit browned or burnt.

These work, don't get me wrong. But they're kind of annoying to deal with. Not as annoying as scrubbing out my Dutch oven in the dark while camping, but annoying. They're really crinkly and they kind of shift in the Dutch oven when you're adding ingredients. It's worth it not to have to work so hard at washing it though.

However, they aren't a great value for the price. For some reason I was expecting a truly innovative design. These are just circles of parchment paper. I could easily make them myself.
