Good quality leather and stitching. I have never had a hot coal land on my chest; but if it were to happen, I would feel protected in this leather apron. Also protects my clothing from spills and has 2 nice deep pockets. It's not as heavy as it appears, so it's not a burden to wear it for a while.
I did not have an issue with the lower strap. I tie it in a loose square knot, which holds well and is not too difficult to untie to take off.
The top strap took a few minutes to figure out, but it has held ever since I got it tight. I just leave that one tied, and slip it on and off over my head.
I actually like the look and feel of the straps, but the loops for the top do leave something to be desired. Still, I was able to get it tied within just a few minutes and everything else about this apron more than makes up for that.

I bought this apron for my boyfriend, who does all of the cooking in our house. While the apron is nice and heavy, the strap doesn't work. No matter how we loop the strap through the 2 rings, the strap ends up slipping out. I do some chuck wagon cooking and needed a tough leather apron that looked appropriate for a trail drive cook, back in the late 1800s. This one fits the bill perfectly, and is very comfortable. The size and weight are just right, and it is easily adjustable.
