Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We've been enjoying the Paula Deen Tatnall Street dish set for a month now, long enough to write an informed review, so here goes...

There's not much point in describing the pattern as elegant, or the color as pleasing, or the shape as refined if you're reading this you already like the appearance, so I'll try to fill you in on some of the other qualities.

First the color: the blue is very pleasing to they eye. Even better, it *perfectly* matches the color of our Spode Blue Room Georgian Plates, Set of 6 Assorted Motifs. A table laid with both types looks perfectly matched, which is important at our house, because we have a tendency to collect assortments of dishes.

Thoughts on durability: after a month of regular use there are no signs of utensil scratches in the porcelain or the patterns; there are no chips from shipping or the dishwasher. Some of my generic dishes looked beat up after a month, so considering the good start I am cautiously optimistic these will last for years to come.

About the side plate: in a pinch it can serve as a saucer for the coffee cup, but it isn't ridged; and one of the cups isn't absolutely 100% perfectly flat on the bottom; there's a teensy wobble, not ideal. The side plate works for bringing wifey a cup of hot cocoa in bed, but for sitting down at table, not so much.

A hidden treasure: one thing the pictures don't show is a pretty little floral pattern on the bottom inside of every bowl a visual treat.

Now for some measurements: size, capacity and weight. First the Paula Deen Tatnall Street set. I'd like to point out that the plates are nice and heavy look at the numbers for yourself...

. Tatnall Bowl: 2-3/4 cups, 5-5/8" wide, 375 grams

. Tatnall Cup: 1-3/4 cups (14oz), 341 grams

. Tatnall Dinner Plate: 10-5/8" wide, 682 grams

. Tatnall Side Plate: 8" wide, 355 grams

By way of comparison, I measured by a set I inherited from my Grandmother, badged "White Dover, Ironstone", possibly made by Homer Laughlin and perhaps bought at Montgomery Wards in the late 1960's or early 1970's. It's curious to note how much smaller dishes used to be. Further evidence Americans eat larger portions than 40 years ago.

. White Dover Bowl: 1-1/4 cups, 6-1/2" wide, 294 grams

. White Dover Cup: 3/4 cups (6oz), 162 grams

. White Dover Dinner Plate: 10" wide, 586 grams

. White Dover Side Plate: 6" wide, 174 grams

And for a more contemporary comparison, here are the measurements of our everyday miscellany: generic bowls and cups from Target, and plates from Spode and Johnson Brothers.

. Generic Bowl: 3 cups, 6" wide, 461 grams

. Generic Mug: 1-1/2 cups (12oz), 340 grams

. Spode Dinner Plate: 10-1/2" wide, 585 grams

. Spode Side Saucer: 6-1/4" wide, 195 grams

. Johnson Brothers Side Plate: 8" wide, 318 grams

Bottom line, these dishes feel good in the hand, look great, perfectly match my Spode plates, and are holding up well. If you like the way they look, there's no reason not to treat yourself.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm not going to make any comments about the style of these dishes, if you're reading this then they must have caught your eye as being likable.

Pros:

Arrived packed very well, no breakage

Very sturdy, dishwasher safe

Sizes were adequate

We are big coffee drinkers and the shape of the coffee cups is pleasing.

Cons:

I felt that the quality of the print wasn't very good. Sure, for the price its ok, but I felt it was a bit grainy looking. Kind of like when you blow a picture up too much on the computer

Bowls did not fit in our dishwashers very nicely

Overall I feel its a good set and the "cons" are kind of unimportant, so I give it 4 stars.

This is a really nice dinnerware set, microwave and dishwasher safe. I love the design on the set and I really like the way the dishes are made. Very high quality set. But dinnerware designs are really a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But if you like the design, I'm sure you will like the dinnerware set. And for a dinnerware set of this quality and design, it is really a good value for the price.

Honest reviews on Paula Deen Signature Dinnerware Tatnall Street 16 Piece Dinnerware

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Smooth finish with reasonable detail in the designs for dishes intended for daily use. No fading or dulling after two washes in the dishwasher at high temperature.

Today we used them for a small lunch party and our guests thought they were attractive. We had steak, with everybody using steak knives, and we found one deep scratch already in one plate. (To compare, we have a ten year old daily-use stoneware set made in Thailand that have no deep scratches.) I don't know if this scratch was present before our first use, but it is disappointing to see one already.

One detail that definitely loses a star on a set of this price: The cups do not have the blue floral design wrapped around properly; instead, the design ends abruptly with a straight edge near the handle. (The flowers are just chopped off at this point.) This indicates a cheap, careless shortcut for applying the design, and our three guests all thought this was a drawback.

Another concern with the cups is the very thin handle, which just seems too fragile for a "working" set of dishes like these.

In short, if you can get this for no more than the price of a comparable Corelle set, they seem to be a fair value. The "list" price here on Amazon is a fantasy, and even half that is not a bargain. I think this is an ordinary dinner set with a celebrity brand name, but they are good for casual get-togethers and everyday use.

Note that they were packed in the product box very securely and should have little problem being delivered by UPS, FedEx, or USPS if the outer carton is marked "FRAGILE," as ours was.

I have a love of blue and white china. When I saw these dishes in a home magazine I wanted them right away but the price was prohibitive. I decided to search on Amazon and found them at a much more reasonable price. They arrived as promised and I love them. They really make a rich presentation. I even mix them with my Bing and Grohdal pattern and they look lovely.
