I bought this in late 2010. I have never owned a different French or Dutch oven to compare. All I can say is this. Everything I put in this thing comes out great, period. Friends and family rave about the food. It even replaced the standard turkey dinner at Thanksgiving. Two reasons for choosing this brand were comments about the lid bumps and the heat proof knob on the cover (who would put a knob on a cover that can't take higher oven temps?). I would buy the same thing all over again. Worth every penny and will probably be a family heirloom.

I have been eyeing this beautiful staub pot for several years, and was just in a Sur la Tab kitchen store where I saw a Prop 65 sign next to it stating that it contained cancer causing materials. When I asked two of the sales people (for two independent responses) I was told that Sur la Tab uses an independent firm to test all cookware that is sold in their stores, and the report came back that there was lead in the knob.

The knob may be nickel plated or brass over lead, I don't know, and the screw which attach's the knob underneath the lid may also contain lead, again, I don't know, but what I do know is that there was a Prop 65 sign next to all the staub cookware, so regretfully, I'm going to pass on this beautiful pot.
